INTRODUCTION
 Today’s conventional modes of transportation of people consists of four unique
types : rail, road, water and air. These modes of transportation realtively
slow(e.g,road and water),expensive(e.g,air)or a combination of relatively slow and
expensive(i.e rail).
 Hyperloop is a new mode of transportation that seeks to change this pattern by
being both fast and inexpensive for people and goods.
 The rout firstly proposed for this mega project was Los Angles to San Francisco
about 350 miles.
WHAT IS HYPERLOOP ?
 Hyperloop is an ultra-high-speed ground transportation system proposed in 2013 by
Elon Musk, cofounder of PayPal, Tesla Motors and founder of space transport
company SpaceX.
 In other words it is a proposed mode of passenger and/or freight transportation, first
used to describe an open-source vactrain design released by a joint team from Tesla
and SpaceX. ... SpaceX built an approximately 1-mile-long (1.6 km) subscale track for
its pod design competition at its headquarters in Hawthorne, California.
 Hyperloop pods ride in a solar-powered, elevated air tube that for long distances
would mostly follow an existing highway. To reduce resistance, a low pressure
environment is created within the tube.
MAIN PARTS OF HYPERLOOP
 Low Pressure Tube.
 Capsule.
 Electromagetic
Launch System.
 Axial Compressure.
 Suspension.
LOW PRESURE TUBE :
 The tube is made of steel.
 The pressure inside tube is 100Pa(equivalent to flying about 150,000Feet altitude).
 Pylons are placed 30m to be support the tube.
CAPSULE :
 Sealed capsule carrying 28 passengers.
 The capsule is supported via thrust bearing that operate using a compressed air
reservoir and aerodynamic lift.
AXIAL COMPRESSOR :
 The compressor is fitted at the front side of capsule.
 Air is compressed with a pressure ratio 20:1.
 The compressor allows the capsule to traverse to the low pressure tube without
checking the air flow that travels between tube walls and capsule.
 Stream lines for capsule traveling at high supersonic velocities inside hyperloop.
SUSPENSION :
 Thrust bearing offer stability and extremely low drag.
 Compressor pressurized air and aerodynamic lift provide better lift to capsule(0.5 to
1.3mm).
 Independent mechanical suspension are provided for smooth ride of passengers.
WORKING OF HYPERLOOP SYSTEM ?
 The hyperloop is nothing but a Maglev train enclosed in a tube in which there is
very little air pressure and hence almost no air resistance.
 The working principle is same as that of a maglev train i.e. the train is levitated
and propelled forward using powerful electromagnets.
 For example: It works same as when we drink a cold drink with a straw. We suck
the liquid inside a container to our mouth by creating a negative pressure with
respect to a higher atmospheric pressure. As we know that the concept of
diffusion, particle moves from higher energy to a lower energy. Likewise,
hyperloop system create an artificial high negative pressure to pull the capsule in
forward direction.
AIRLOCK :
 The tube has lower pressure than the station.
 So in order to maintain speed we need to apply airlock.
ADVANTAGES :
 Faster.
 Lower cost.
 Pollution free.
 Immune to wheather.
 Safer.
 Resistant to earthquakes.
 Powered by solar panel.
DISADVANTAGES :
 Tube pressurization.
 Turning will be critical(with large radius).
 Insufficient movable space for passenger.
 High speed causes dizziness in some passengers.
CONCLUSION
 As it has number of advantages it will very helpful for transport as well
as goods in a very short period of time(at a top speed of 1220kmph)
and also in low cost.
 It is a new concept so there is a some future work will be required for
development of this project.
 By reducing the pressure of the air in the tube which reduce simple air
drag and enables the capsule to move faster than through a tube at
atmospheric pressure.
FUTURE WORK
 Improve the passenger capacity.
 Detailed station design with loading and unloading of
passengers.
 Safety features improvement.
 It can be used material handling deices.
Thank you
