Chicago Bulls Origin Names Essay
The Origin Names Pertaining to the National Basketball Association
Have you ever just sat back and wondered how certain teams in the National Basketball Association
(NBA) got there name as a professional basketball team? Well, after some detailed research I
noticed that there are some interesting facts pertaining to the origin of each team in the NBA. The
Chicago Bulls, Portland Trailblazers, and the Philadelphia 76ers all have interesting specifics
relating to their name and the teams city. The background and origin of the NBA teams pertains to
the history of each team, how they were able to name the team, and how they all share a common
interest between each other.
The Chicago Bulls, a professional basketball team in the state of Illinois that was established in
1966 becoming the league's 10th franchise. Dick Klein, the owner of the Chicago Bulls came up
with the name as saying, "We were the meat capital of the world." So Klein decided to use the Bulls
because the name signifies strength and power which ties into the city's meat packing industry
tradition during the late 19th–20th century. As though the name may seem generic it's actually the
opposite, Chicago was the hub ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city of Portland was granted a franchise in the year 1970. Harry Glickman, the executive vice
president of the team decided to gather a panel of judges and have local residents to enter a contest
to decide the name for their upcoming team the following season. As a result, the winner would
receive two season tickets to all the upcoming home games. Well finally they found a name, which
they called the team the Trailblazers. The distinctive word Trailblazer, is defined by Webster
dictionary as "One that blazes a trail to guide others: A pathfinder: A pioneer." The actual name
came from explorers whom brought a great deal of people to the west part of America in the early

The Legendary Lebron James
The chosen one, the hometown hero, the traitor, the king, the greatest of all time, or also known as
Lebron James has been through what most kids can't even imagine. Lebron grew up without a father
and moved from house to house, but now he is one of the most successful men in the world. On
April 4, 2014 Lebron is the youngest player ever to reach 23,000 career points in the National
Basketball Association (NBA), beating Michael, Kareem, and Kobe to this amazing achievement
Lebron still thanks his mother for what she fought through to get him to where he is at now. Gloria
James was only 16 at the time she had Lebron, and Lebrons biological father, Anthony McClelland
was an ex–convict uninterested in being a parent, and he left Gloria to raise Lebron by herself. This
is why Lebron uses his mothers maiden name and not his father's last name. Gloria had many
personal problems and had trouble keeping a steady job. Gloria tried to give Lebron a good life she
just had struggles doing it. Gloria tried to give Lebron everything she could, at a young age Lebron
loved sports so she bought him a miniature basketball hoop. Lebron James struggled at school, and
at making friends because he was embarrassed about his home life; Lebron found a way to get away
from his home life with basketball and football. Lebron showed magnificent skills in basketball and
football at an early age. Lebron was a freak athlete in middle school. His football coach saw he had

Senior Project Basketball is more than just a sport Dwayne Wade was born January 17, 1982 in
Chicago, Illinois. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most
people don't know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA.
When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother.
Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is
where Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a
star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play
for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn't play he still
practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the
NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All–star and still
is an all–star today. People who play basketball are affected in many positive ways by it. African–
Americans that come from low–income families and dangerous neighborhoods often play
basketball. Young African Americans see playing basketball as a ticket to a better life and a cheaper
education. Black students receive more athletic scholarships than any other race. In 2008 African
Americans received twenty three percent of all athletic

Analysis Of The Biography ' Devin Booker '
Devin Booker was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 30, 1996. He was born to Melvin
Booker and Veronica Gutierrez. His father, Melvin Booker, was named the 1994 Big Eight player of
the year while point guard at the University of Missouri. Booker was in Michigan, while his father
was pursuing a professional career overseas. Devin visited his father two months out of the year
while he was on summer break. At an early age, Devin was taught by his father that having a
basketball IQ was more important than natural athleticism.
While Devin was in Michigan, he had played for the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball
teams at Grandville High School, in Grand Rapids. But Booker then moved to Mississippi, to live
with his father, after his retirement from professional basketball. He had then enrolled into Moss
Point High School, where his father was an assistant coach, in August of 2011. Early on Booker was
a high school standout. As a sophomore he had developed into one of the best guards in the coastal
area of the gulf. He had averaged 22.7 points per game. He also had been drawing interest in
Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgetown, Florida, Georgetown, Alabama, and Missouri. Later that
season Devin scored 54 points in the MLK shootout.
With Devin's sophomore season now over, it was now time for his junior campaign. With most of
Moss Point's experienced players graduating, Devin switched to the point guard position for his
junior season. But later in the season

Becoming Homeless Myself
The green papers flew in the air as I swam threw the piles, cautious as to where to step, but at the
same time enjoying myself. I swam to the other end in my bronze coloured, two thousand dollar
swimsuit. Half way I was stopped, not by someone, but something. A paper cut. I grab the paper and
rip it up in anger, losing one hundred dollars. I fetch Jameson and tell him to get me a Band–Aid.
Putting on my shirt, my phone rang. I quickly finished buttoning and attached my golden Rolex
watch, glancing at the screen. Unknown number, now who could that be? I tap my phone and the
call has been started. "Hello?" I ask curiously. "Ah, yes this is Carson James, thirty years of age
living in Toronto Ontario and of the Christian background." Hmm, "Alright, good bye." I hang up,
cursing myself as I forget to give my address. Jameson comes up with the bandage and I peel the
protective paper off and gently apply it to my cut. Right after I finish, I'm told there's a package for
me.Who could that be from? Surely not from the gentle man I was talking to before. I walk up to the
box, whipping out my Swiss Army pocket knife. Gently cutting the tape, I open the box. Inside,
were my custom shoes I ordered from Jordan. Cautiously removing the packaging I pick up my
Jordan's and put them into my shoe collection, five–hundred collectable sneakers all sitting there
peacefully in their respectable places. I sit down tired. A

The Greatest Nba Player
The Greatest of All Time Have you ever wondered who truly was the greatest NBA player of all

would be likely to see when discussing this topic are: Bill Russell, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain,
Larry Bird, LeBron James, and Michael Jordan (Top 10 Players in NBA History). Most people can
recognize most of these names but one of these people may be the most well known people in all of

This isn't the only time he has felt the need to take responsibility for his team's success. At the end of
just about every close game, everyone watching knows that Michael Jordan is taking the ball to take
the last shot, and with some deadly precision. He has made over 25 game winning shots in his
career, all with the same amount of greatness (Is Michael Jordan the Greatest). One of the greatest
things about Jordan was the legacy that he left on the NBA when he retired. After the Chicago Bulls
retired his jersey, the Number 23 has been made legendary in basketball because of Jordan. When
people like Lebron try to wear Jordan's number, people will always see him living in Jordan's
shadow. His shoes are still one of the highest selling shoes. Who wouldn't want to wear the shoes of
the greatest basketball player of all time? If you ask a random person if they know who Michael
Jordan is, it is very likely they will know who he was, what team he played for, what his number
was, and that he was the greatest basketball player of all time. Not too many people in the history of
sports have that kind of reputation around the world.
Michael Jordan was the greatest because of his amazing statistics, his undeniable ability to win, and
his lasting effect on the NBA. It will be a very long time, if ever, that there will be a player who was
better than Jordan. While there are very many people in the NBA that are extremely talented, none

NBA: Should Donald Sterling Be Banned for his Racist...
Donald Sterling Racist Comments
There is a question floating around in the NBA (aka the National Basketball Association)
community right now. Should Donald Sterling be banned for his racist comments? Yes, I think he
should. What he said was not excusable even though he comes from a generation where saying those
things is okay. He attempted to get his girlfriend to take pictures off Instagram because "she was
publicizing the fact she was walking with a black man." In his interview on CNN he said the
following. " That's the one problem I have. Jews when they get successful they will help their people
and some African–Americans–– maybe I'll get in trouble again... they don't want to help anybody."
What all was said? Sterling told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson said he didn't want Sterling to do anything without his permission. Magic Johnson
responded, "I feel sorry for him. I really do. It's sad." Whereas Sterling had attacked Johnson,
Johnson just sympathized him. Sterling is an old crazy man.
Sterling is now charged with a $2.5 million fine and is banned, however, he refuses to pay the fine
and won't accept his lifetime ban. It's crazy how a man with a $1.9 billion net worth refuses to pay a
sum of $2.5 million, but instead, he wants to sue the NBA for his suspension and for attempting to
strip him of his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. Arsenio Hall, a talk show host, had made a
joke about trying to raise $1 billion, and Katt Williams, an actor, rapper and comedian, had given
him $1,100 in $100 bills. Even after the cameras had gone off, Katt Williams had not taken his
money back. On the show, Katt had said "We are in the Clippers business!" Could Arsenio Hall
really be trying to buy the Clippers? It's doubtful, but what could this mean for Sterling's ownership
of the Los Angeles Clippers? I think someone will buy it and leave Sterling hanging there without a
team. There could be others that are actually serious about buying the Clippers. Things are not
looking so good for the Los Angeles Clippers owner.
Donald Sterling is begging for forgiveness, but it's strange that he refuses to pay the $2.5 million
fine. He's super wealthy, yet he

The History of Basketball
Basketball is a sport that was created for a gym class and evolved into a worldwide sensation .
Basketball was created in 1891 by a man named James Naismith. He originally created the game for
his gym class because, it was unbearable outside for any other sports , and the game originally was
nonphysical and only had 13 rules. When basketball was first created , there were unlimited players
allowed on the court and present day there are only five players per team allowed on the court. Also,
the players used a peach basket to shoot a soccer ball into , and present day they use a metal rim
with a next and a glass backboard. In the beginning , basketball was only a men's sport until 1892,
when Sendra Berenson Abbot, decided to mix things up a little and change the rules so that the girls
could play the sport. So, now there are two professional leagues , one for men, and one for women
the NBA and WNBA. Women were not allowed any physical contact at all but, today women are
extremely physical and some even hit harder than the men. In the year 1896, the first professional
game was played and so what the first college game. Each player for the pros was paid $15 and the
game was Trenton vs. Brooklyn and Trenton won but, they only scored 15 points. Today there are
120 point games and the league has changed in many ways including size and weight. The game had
many flaws when it was first created, one of the biggest was that it was a racial league, meaning

March Madness is one of my favorite times of year! It would be an honor to cover March Madness!
Where are you from? Can you cover the Euroleague, International Leagues, and other foreign
basketball activities frequently?
I 'm from Connecticut, and I don 't normally watch International leagues (except for the olympics),
so this could be a challenge.
Do you show bias towards playoff–bound teams? Meaning can you cover low–class teams such as
the Charlotte Bobcats?
Well like I said, I 'm a huge Heat fan and I love to debate so I wouldn 't turn my back against them.
But, I can cover low–class teams. In fact, I think the Bobcats have a lot of raw young talent. They
have Kemba, DJ Augustin, Tyrus Thomas, Gerald Henderson, etc. I think these fresh legs brings for
an up–tempo fun to watch game, so I definitely think I can cover low class teams.
Name any and all things we should know about you.
Well I play basketball, I work at a basketball camp, I 've won many awards, I know lots of fun facts,

The Hall Of Fame For College Basketball
The Hall of Fame for college basketball players was on the wall. It had just recently been updated
after the Hall of Fame presentation of Saturday. I had just woken up feeling cold. I looked out the
window of my dorm to see the dark, cloudy day outside with the rain pelting down on the window
pane. I was still really tired after the late night of getting praised on my amazing basketball skills,
finally I had been recognized and everyone was telling me that I needed to declare that I'm joining
the NBA as soon as possible! I then declared for the NBA draft halfway through my season.
The election for the new president was going on at that moment, but he wasn't really interested in
the elections, he heard on the radio what the soon to be president didn't like and what he did. The
main thing he heard though was that he didn't like basketball, how could anyone not like basketball?
How could I get rid of this new president to be? I looked up on the black market on the deep dark
web for an assassin. There were a few ads in there for Hit man's pest control and Hit man agent. I
rang the Hit man agent and there was a muffled voice coming over the phone, I could barely
understand him. I told him that I wanted the election to be stopped and the person who was winning
the election to be killed, and cover up your tracks well! There was one thing I didn't want to happen.
I didn't want to be arrested just as I was about to get into the NBA. No one would want me on their

French And Indian War Turning Point Essay
The French and Indian War Turning Point
During the French and Indian War, many things changed like the forced quartering of soldiers, the
end of salutary neglect, and self–government, while the colonies not wanting to unite, the feeling of
not being represented in parliament from the colonists, and the neglect of a redress of the colonists'
grievances from the king stayed the same. In the colonies, before the French and Indian war, life
was good. Things were simple in Britain's relationship with the colonies, they traded with each other
and Britain gave salutary neglect to the colonists trading with people they were not supposed to
trade with. Everybody was happy and taxes were limited, and internal taxing was not something
Britain did. Mercantilism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want part
it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the British
army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the war was
finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king had not
internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace, there were
standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these were made okay
because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to provide housing and
supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The Stamp Act forced us to
have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act put excessive taxes on
tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the colonists upset. But what
upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the colonies elected into Parliament,
making them feel like they were not represented the way they should be. The intolerable acts were
also implemented, which threatened their self–government, so they fought back against Britain by
creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the Continental Congress, the colonies
then decided to unite and declare independence from

Personal Statement : Auto Mechanics
As far as I could recall, I have always been a person who loves to help other individuals. I remember
being in the second grade and most of the times I would finish my classwork earlier than most of my
classmates. And, I would usually ask my classmates if they needed help with their work. Also,
during recess, I enjoyed playing sports, such as basketball and soccer. Not to mention, I would often
stay after school to play basketball with my schoolmates. Furthermore, I also enjoyed playing with
my hot wheel cars at home and at times I pretended to fix my cars just like my dad, who is a
mechanic. I guess I grew to love cars from an early age because every weekend my father would fix
cars, so I was always around cars during my childhood. However, I never developed the passion to
seek a career in auto mechanics. I love cars, but I never viewed it as a potential career. Equally
important, like around the age of nine or ten I would help my grandfather clean his garden. It was
from this experience that I learned how to turn on a lawnmower. Most of the times I would help my
grandfather trim trees or go with him to clean houses. I believe that I grew so much as a person
during this time. For one because it made me realize that if I did not continue going to school, I
would have to rely on a blue–collar job just like my grandfather did. However, working alongside
my grandfather and father inspired me to pursue a career in whatever my interest was and more
importantly, not to make

The Oklahoma City Thunder Went Into Oracle Arena
On Monday night, the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder went into Oracle Arena and knocked off the
Golden State Warriors 108–102 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder were
able to win on Monday night, thanks to a 19–point third quarter performance from point guard
Russell Westbrook. Westbrook 's play in the third quarter was the key to Oklahoma City 's comeback
as they were down 13 points at the half. The first half was not good for the Thunder or Westbrook as
he struggled with his jump shot. As a team, the Thunder shot 45.5 percent from the field but shot
50.0 percent from three–point range, which kept them in striking distance. But what killed
Oklahoma City in the first two quarters was turnovers as they had 10. Those 1o turnovers, lead to 15
points for the Warriors. As I mentioned earlier, Westbrook struggled on offense as he was getting
outplayed by his counterpart, two–time MVP Stephen Curry. In the first half, Curry had 14 points on
5–of–11 shooting from the field, to go along with six rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Westbrook was getting beat at his own game, which is stuffing the stat sheet and making an impact
in every facet of the game. In the first half, Westbrook only scored three points, as he shot a
horrendous 1–of–8 from the field. With Westbrook not making an impact in the scoring department,
he made sure to get his teammates involved early and often as he dished out eight assists in the first
half. Thankfully, on the other end of his

The Basketball Association And The Nba
The National Basketball Association, or the NBA, is a men's professional basketball league in the
USA. The National Basketball Association was born in 1949 after the Basketball Association of
America and the National Basketball League merged as one. Maurice Podoloff was elected head of
the new league that consisted of seventeen teams which came from cities and towns all across the
country. The NBA did not have a great start with its teams dwindling to only eight teams in the
1950s. At this point, the league transformed the game with the addition of the shot clock. The shot
clock in the NBA is 24 seconds, meaning the offensive team has 24 seconds from the time they
inbound the ball until the ball hits the rim on their side of the court. This addition increased the pace
of the game and made it more fun for fans to watch. Their transformation worked, and the league
returned to a financially stable one in the 1960/70s. Today, the NBA has millions of fans from all
walks of life, all over the world. The league now consists of 30 teams from various states in North
America as well as one team from Canada. The teams are divided into two conferences and then
three divisions of five teams each. To play the sport of basketball there are players; five on the court
at a time, coaches, a basketball, two hoops, high–top shoes to protect player's ankles, and a court
with specific lines painted out to represent boundaries.
As a league, the NBA makes roughly 5.18 billion dollars

Thats what college basketball is all about, hearing David Stern (the commissioner of the NBA) call
your name (Kindred 2000). Fizer implies that college basketball is merely a stepping stone on the
way to professional basketball. Statements like these illustrate how the game of basketball has
transformed in recent years from a competitive sport to a business. Old school basketball consisted
of student athletes competing fiercely just for the love of the game. Dunks and dollar signs seem to
be the main motivational factors that influence Fizers generation of athletes. Something positive can
be taken from the precedents Thurman and Fizer; both at least started a college education and made
positive contributions to the game. Each year the number of high school athletes that go directly to
the NBA increases. In recent years Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett have become household names
with huge contracts. Both of them have risen to stardom after making the jump directly from high
school. With all of the hype surrounding these success stories, little is mentioned about those not so
fortunate. Like Garnett, Ronnie Fields attended Farragut Academy. In 1997 Fields attempted to

The NBA Should Enforce a Hard Salary Cap
How many of you sports fans out there are sick of paying twenty–five dollars for a lousy seat at an
NBA game? How many of you are sick of seeing the same teams in the finals every year? I'm sure
there are thousands of you out there that feel this way, as do I. The way we can fix these problems is
to demand that the NBA enforce a hard salary cap. A hard salary cap would lower ticket prices,
allow for more teams to be more competitive and eliminate the possibility of any future lockouts. If
the three things listed above aren't met, it's hard to say if the NBA will survive at all. I want to see
the NBA survive, but not in the way things are being run now. A hard salary cap is the only way ...

( 1 ) The players realize that they are eliminating their average fan and they don't care. We as fans
should not pay these outlandish ticket prices. A hard salary cap is the only thing that will lower
salaries and ticket prices. If ticket prices aren't lowered, I personally feel that the players can kiss
their pay checks goodbye. But what do other people think.
Some people believe that NBA arenas will fill up in spite of high ticket prices. Just last year Michael
Jordan made 33.14 million dollars while the whole Chicago Bulls salary cap was 26.9 million, and
all season long seats were filled. That means to some that no matter the amount, people will
continue to attend NBA games.
To the people that believe this, I must remind them of Major League Baseball and the situation that
they faced just a few years back. First, players' salaries skyrocketed to obscene levels, alienating
their average fan. Next, the players couldn't decide how to divide up their millions. Finally, they quit
playing the game and their fans quit caring about Major League Baseball. Does any of this sound

Josh Cosby : A Superb Role Model Essay
Joshua Joel Cosby: A Superb Role Model Joshua Joel Cosby, my uncle, also known as Josh Cosby,
was born June 30, 1982. He grew up as the youngest child of eleven siblings in St.louis, Missouri.
After graduating high school in 1997, he skipped college to start a professional basketball career that
included stops in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. On June 13, 2000, he helped
the Yakima Sun Kings win the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) Championship and earned
first team honors while leading the Colombia Copa Federation in scoring with an average of 27.2
points per game. Josh is highly respected in our community and is viewed by many as an
outstanding role model. Josh Cosby is a superb role model for several reasons: his desire to support
his family, his passion for basketball, and his humble personality. Josh is a true family man.
Although he does not have any children of his own, he has thirteen nephews and eight nieces, so
changing diapers is nothing foreign to him. Josh definitely has been the main provider for all of us.
He played thirteen years of professional basketball overseas in four different countries, and, every
year, when he was done with his season, he made sure that every single one of us had school clothes

Josh always called before and after every game to check and see how we performed. He took time

Lakers Basketball Franchise
Have you ever wondered where the dominating Lakers basketball franchise first started? Well this
paper will explain where it all began. It will tell you about some of the great players who played for
the Lakers and also about the championships that they have won. The now Los Angeles Lakers
began in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1947. During that same year of 1947, the Lakers acquired one
of the top centers in the league at the time, George Mikan ("History" para. 1). Before Mikan played
for the Lakers he played for the Chicago Gears where he earned sixty thousand dollars per year,
which was the most of any player at the time (Rainbolt page. 12). George Mikan, a six –ten man,
played four years of college basketball at the University of DePaul ("History" para. 2). Because his
previous team was terminated due to low attendance at games, he was placed with the Minnesota
Lakers ("History" para. 3).Surprisingly, George Mikan was the NBA's first superstar by leading the
Lakers to five world championships (Rainbolt page. 10). Growing up, Mikan had poor eyesight and
was required to wear strong glasses while playing basketball (Rainbolt page. 10). However, the
Lakers were a decent team even without the six ten giant. The coach of the team was John Kundla,
who also coached at the University of Minnesota ("History" para. 4). In the 1947 season, the Lakers
won their division by thirteen games over the second placed team ("History" para. 5). In the 1948
BAA finals, the Lakers faced the

Should College Athletes Be Paid? Essay
With the passing of another academic year, fans were able to enjoy yet another nail–biting NCAA
Basketball Tournament and a highlight filled football season. Most would agree that the NCAA
provides competitive sport as popular as the professionals. In fact, its annual revenue makes that
point clear. College football and basketball generate more than the National Basketball Association,
a total of more than $6 billion yearly.[1] There is one major difference between the two associations,
however. NBA players get paid for the revenue they help bring in, while NCAA athletes receive no
monetary compensation. The promise of a free education is not enough anymore if the NCAA wants
to act as a money making business, and not reward those who help make it profitable. If the NCAA
does not want to pay college athletes, than it should not hold these players back from entering the
professional game. However, colluding with the NBA and the NFL, athletes are restricted when it
comes to joining the pro ranks. With these two ideas combined, athletes are drawn to the college
game out of necessity, and not always desire. Some writers, like Stanley Eitzen, have even
compared the system to indentured servitude or a "plantation system."[2] Concerning the revenue
sports of men's basketball and football, the players should be entitled to some monetary
compensation for their work, as well as the right to enter the professional leagues at an age that suits
their abilities.

Michael Jordan’s Second Return to the NBA Essay
Michael Jordan's Second Return to the NBA
Michael Jordan has been of interest to me ever since I began playing basketball myself in the fourth
grade. I often found myself trying to replicate Jordan's moves and motions on the court. I already
know a great deal about Jordan because I have studied his career and practically memorized his
credentials, both as an athlete and a thriving businessperson. I often found myself staring at my
ceiling at night reciting free–throw percentages and such. The main controversy when dealing with
Jordan, however, focuses not on his ability to play basketball, rather his second return to the game.
Should Jordan have returned for the second time, or should he have stayed away from the basketball

There could be a few reasons for this. One is that they are afraid that Jordan will turn his team into
another dynasty and dominate the NBA again. Other reasons could be that they simply do not want
to see Jordan take a chance on ruining his legendary title of the greatest basketball player of all time.
I must say that ticket sales do not lie and overall, Jordan's return was a success on this parameter of
the subject.
Secondly, Jordan's performance is another subject matter to contend with when questioning his
return to basketball. It is well known that Jordan has performed well throughout his career, but how
does his performance after his return compare to his previous statistics? As per the player profiles of
Yahoo Sports, Jordan's Minutes Per Game average were "38.8" in 1997 before his retirement and
"34.9" in 2001, the first year of his return. These numbers show little reduction in playing time. The
slight decline, however, is likely due to fatigue that occurs late in the game. When looking at his
points per game, I, again, see no major deficit between the two years. In 1997 he tallied "28.7" ppg
(points per game), and in 2001 his numbers only dropped to "22.9" ppg (Yahoo Sports). These
numbers show me that Jordan can still adequately play the game. If his number were drastically
lower, however, I might reconsider my claim. Based on these

Why Salary Caps Are Truly Unfair
The debates have gone on every sense the very first year free agency was introduced. I think after all
this paper is done I truly believe that I will be able to show you evidence on why salary caps are
truly unfair. So let 's have some facts that prove my theory with facts from their lives. Most coaches
can look at talent and see potential at such a young age. When coaches see this they push Athletes to
the next level making them ready for the college. That's why you see kids pushing themselves so
hard in the gym, they think they can make it to the league. Look at it this way, in all sports except
baseball, the chances of going pro are less than 2%. So why pay these guys what they worked their
whole entire life for get paid, they honestly deserve it. Let's look at it this way, Professional athletes
have worked their entire life for everything they now have. Salary caps are not a problem in sports,
this has been a very heated debate throughout every year in sports. There 's new free agents every
single year, with some of the potential who deserve more than 300 million dollars over the next 10
years. Then there's some who don't even come close to making 1 million on a one year deal. Many
people sit here and could fire rapid shots on why salary caps should be established in sports. While
others believe that this could stop some people of what they should be making. Thats besides the
point, I 100% believe that salary caps should be abolished in pro sports. I have some great

Analysis : ' Grit ' And ' The Baby Faced Assassin ' By...
Any discussion revolving around the two–time NBA MVP and world champion Stephen Curry that
doesn't bring up his rise from an undersized, scrawny point guard to the "baby–faced assassin" of
the Association are few and far between. Likewise, Kevin Pelton's excellent article is no exception
to the rule. In it, he mentions Curry as one of the prime examples showcasing a new definition of
"grit" postulated by University of Pennsylvania Professor Angela Duckworth: coining it as "passion
and perseverance for long–term goals." Indeed, he is deserving of the myriad of praise he garnered
over the last few years, overcoming many doubts surrounding him as he was entering the league and
inspiring young players, showing them that you don't need to be a freak athlete along the lines of
LeBron James to have success at the highest level. With that said, however, Curry's six–foot–three
frame isn't exactly short or undersized by NBA standards at the point guard position. In fact,
according to Draft King, the average size for drafted point guards since 1987 is 6'1", 187 lbs – just
right around Curry's height.
Surprisingly, a player who has faced an arguably more difficult path than Curry to the National
Basketball Association is often overlooked in such discussions of grit and overcoming obstacles. I'm
referring to Mr. Isaiah Thomas, the Celtics' point guard standing at 5'9". However, I want be
completely clear here: none of this is meant to take away from Stephen Curry and what he has

An Education Is More Important
An Education is More Important In the world, there are over a thousand professional athletes. There
are only a handful of these player that have a four year college education. The National Football
League (NFL); they draft two hundred and fifty–six college athletes. Hickman stated that five out of
ten NFL players have a college degree. This is one of the higher percentage for professional athletes
having a college degree. To declare for the NFL a player must complete two years of college
football. This rule pushes athletes to get classes at a college, but does not give them a full education.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is like the NFL, but different in ways. The NBA draft

How does playing basketball for a school can help a student academically in high school from a
structural–functionalist perspective? You notice that playing basketball for a high school can help
physically, mentally, socially, and academically. Not only does playing basketball for a school not
only build friendships between team members, but could also give them that competitive edge to
become better than who they are physically and mentally. For a student to continue playing
basketball for a school, he'll have to stay in shape for the season and be able to keep the grades
above average. Academically, at a college level, basketball is a good and bad thing. Majority of
universities pay attention to the student skill level at the sport rather than his grades, just to ensure
the schools success.
Paragraph 5 = From a structural–functionalist perspective, you realize that by the game of

How Collective Bargaining Agreements Effect The Players...
Most people around the world enjoy sporting events. These events are considered great
entertainment options. So what does professional baseball, football, basketball, and most other
companies around the United States have in common? If you guessed Collective Bargaining
Agreements (CBA), Unions, arbitration and strikes/work stoppages you are absolutely correct. In
the coming paragraphs, labor relations within the world of sports will be discussed from their unions
to how collective bargaining agreements effect both the players and the owners. What is a Collective
Bargaining Agreement? CBA is a written and signed document between a company and a labor
organization specifying the terms and conditions of employment for a specified period of time. The
written agreement is then a contract between the employer and the employees. Collective bargaining
is a continuous process, beginning with the negotiation of a contract through the entirety of the
contract with almost daily interpretation and administration of its provisions. Collective bargaining
and unions have had a considerable effect on fans through professional sports. Because of these
contract negotiations, athletes in recent years have benefited from an increasing share of ticket and
television profits. Collective bargaining has resulted in strikes and lockouts and has disrupted
several seasons through cancellation of games or even ending a season. The televising of sporting
events has become the largest source of revenue

Essay on The Commercialization of Basketball
The Commercialization of Basketball
The game of basketball is changing, but not willingly or by it own doing. Corporate America has
been poking around in the petri dish containing American sports for years now, steering its path of
evolution wherever desired. The effects can easily be seen on and around the basketball court in the
form of corporate logos engrained on the floor, product advertisements everywhere from the rafters
to the programs to the scorers table, and company labels stitched into players uniforms and shoes.
Basketball, and sport in general, has become one of the most effective commercial vehicles and
marketing tools, but at what price? How has sport, both the actual competition and the viewing
experience, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why is the Target Center so saturated with these images? Entertainment. These corporations have
realized that people come to basketball games to be entertained and if their products can be
marketed in a way that promises entertainment, or presented in a way that is entertaining, then
people will pay attention, and money.
With just a flip of the 2002–2003 Minnesota Timberwolves Yearbook cover this can be seen. The
reader is immediately faced with faced with a multitude of entertainment opportunities that go far
beyond basketball. The inside of the cover presents a combination advertisement for Whirlpool and
Best Buy. The page is full of vibrant colors and centers on a mirror image of a young woman
beneath a waterfall of both water and colors. "Wash Your World Clean" stands out in the middle of
the page, and the slogans for the respective advertising companies also appear: "Turn on the Fun"
and "Just Imagine" (Yearbook). Perhaps somewhat ironically, each company could effectively use
the other's catchphrase. Both promise some sort of entertainment, something that fans attending a
basketball game are certainly craving. The words "fun" and "imagine" promise to fulfill what the
readers desire. Incidentally, the "Turn on the Fun" slogan belongs to Best Buy and "Just Imagine" to
Whirlpool. The page adjacent to the colorful inside cover is quite different. It has a

This is why Lebron uses his mothers maiden name and not his father's last name. Gloria had many personal problems and had trouble keeping a steady job. Gloria tried to give Lebron a good life she just had struggles doing it. Gloria tried to give Lebron everything she could, at a young age Lebron loved sports so she bought him a miniature basketball hoop. Most people see Wade as just an NBA star who has a lot of money, but most people don't know the full story of what he has been through in his life and how he got to the NBA. When Wade was born, his parents separated a short while after and custody was given to his mother. Then because of the crime in Chicago and financial issues Wade had to move with his father. This is where Dwayne Wade began to play basketball and found out that he was really good at it. He was a star on his high school varsity basketball team then moved up to the college and was unable to play for his first two years because of his grades. For these two years that Wade couldn't play he still practiced with the team and continued to work on and improve his game. In 2003 Wade entered the NBA draft and was selected to play with the Miami Heat where he made himself an All–star and still is an all–star today. People who play basketball are affected in many positive ways by it. African– Americans that come from low–income families and dangerous neighborhoods often play basketball. Young African Americans see playing basketball as a ticket to a better life and a cheaper education. Black students receive more athletic scholarships than any other race. • 9. Analysis Of The Biography ' Devin Booker ' Devin Booker was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 30, 1996. He was born to Melvin Booker and Veronica Gutierrez. His father, Melvin Booker, was named the 1994 Big Eight player of the year while point guard at the University of Missouri. Booker was in Michigan, while his father was pursuing a professional career overseas. Devin visited his father two months out of the year while he was on summer break. At an early age, Devin was taught by his father that having a basketball IQ was more important than natural athleticism. While Devin was in Michigan, he had played for the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball teams at Grandville High School, in Grand Rapids. But Booker then moved to Mississippi, to live with his father, after his retirement from professional basketball. He had then enrolled into Moss Point High School, where his father was an assistant coach, in August of 2011. Early on Booker was a high school standout. As a sophomore he had developed into one of the best guards in the coastal area of the gulf. He had averaged 22.7 points per game. He also had been drawing interest in Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgetown, Florida, Georgetown, Alabama, and Missouri. Later that season Devin scored 54 points in the MLK shootout. I swam to the other end in my bronze coloured, two thousand dollar swimsuit. Half way I was stopped, not by someone, but something. A paper cut. I grab the paper and rip it up in anger, losing one hundred dollars. I fetch Jameson and tell him to get me a Band–Aid. Putting on my shirt, my phone rang. I quickly finished buttoning and attached my golden Rolex watch, glancing at the screen. Unknown number, now who could that be? I tap my phone and the call has been started. "Hello?" I ask curiously. "Ah, yes this is Carson James, thirty years of age living in Toronto Ontario and of the Christian background." Hmm, "Alright, good bye." I hang up, cursing myself as I forget to give my address. Jameson comes up with the bandage and I peel the protective paper off and gently apply it to my cut. Right after I finish, I'm told there's a package for me.Who could that be from? Surely not from the gentle man I was talking to before. I walk up to the box, whipping out my Swiss Army pocket knife. Gently cutting the tape, I open the box. Inside, were my custom shoes I ordered from Jordan. Donald Sterling Racist Comments There is a question floating around in the NBA (aka the National Basketball Association) community right now. Should Donald Sterling be banned for his racist comments? Yes, I think he should. What he said was not excusable even though he comes from a generation where saying those things is okay. He attempted to get his girlfriend to take pictures off Instagram because "she was publicizing the fact she was walking with a black man." In his interview on CNN he said the following. " That's the one problem I have. Jews when they get successful they will help their people and some African–Americans–– maybe I'll get in trouble again... they don't want to help anybody." What all was said? Sterling told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson said he didn't want Sterling to do anything without his permission. Magic Johnson responded, "I feel sorry for him. I really do. It's sad." Whereas Sterling had attacked Johnson, Johnson just sympathized him. Sterling is an old crazy man. Sterling is now charged with a $2.5 million fine and is banned, however, he refuses to pay the fine and won't accept his lifetime ban. It's crazy how a man with a $1.9 billion net worth refuses to pay a sum of $2.5 million, but instead, he wants to sue the NBA for his suspension and for attempting to strip him of his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. Arsenio Hall, a talk show host, had made a joke about trying to raise $1 billion, and Katt Williams, an actor, rapper and comedian, had given him $1,100 in $100 bills. Even after the cameras had gone off, Katt Williams had not taken his money back. On the show, Katt had said "We are in the Clippers business!" Could Arsenio Hall really be trying to buy the Clippers? It's doubtful, but what could this mean for Sterling's ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers? I think someone will buy it and leave Sterling hanging there without a team. There could be others that are actually serious about buying the Clippers. Things are not looking so good for the Los Angeles Clippers owner. Donald Sterling is begging for forgiveness, but it's strange that he refuses to pay the $2.5 million fine. He's super wealthy, yet he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The History of Basketball Basketball is a sport that was created for a gym class and evolved into a worldwide sensation . Basketball was created in 1891 by a man named James Naismith. He originally created the game for his gym class because, it was unbearable outside for any other sports , and the game originally was nonphysical and only had 13 rules. When basketball was first created , there were unlimited players allowed on the court and present day there are only five players per team allowed on the court. Also, the players used a peach basket to shoot a soccer ball into , and present day they use a metal rim with a next and a glass backboard. In the beginning , basketball was only a men's sport until 1892, when Sendra Berenson Abbot, decided to mix things up a little and change the rules so that the girls could play the sport. So, now there are two professional leagues , one for men, and one for women the NBA and WNBA. Women were not allowed any physical contact at all but, today women are extremely physical and some even hit harder than the men. In the year 1896, the first professional game was played and so what the first college game. Each player for the pros was paid $15 and the game was Trenton vs. Brooklyn and Trenton won but, they only scored 15 points. Today there are 120 point games and the league has changed in many ways including size and weight. The game had many flaws when it was first created, one of the biggest was that it was a racial league, meaning only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Hall Of Fame For College Basketball The Hall of Fame for college basketball players was on the wall. It had just recently been updated after the Hall of Fame presentation of Saturday. I had just woken up feeling cold. I looked out the window of my dorm to see the dark, cloudy day outside with the rain pelting down on the window pane. I was still really tired after the late night of getting praised on my amazing basketball skills, finally I had been recognized and everyone was telling me that I needed to declare that I'm joining the NBA as soon as possible! I then declared for the NBA draft halfway through my season. The election for the new president was going on at that moment, but he wasn't really interested in the elections, he heard on the radio what the soon to be president didn't like and what he did. The main thing he heard though was that he didn't like basketball, how could anyone not like basketball? How could I get rid of this new president to be? I looked up on the black market on the deep dark web for an assassin. There were a few ads in there for Hit man's pest control and Hit man agent. I rang the Hit man agent and there was a muffled voice coming over the phone, I could barely understand him. I told him that I wanted the election to be stopped and the person who was winning the election to be killed, and cover up your tracks well! There was one thing I didn't want to happen. I didn't want to be arrested just as I was about to get into the NBA. No one would want me on their team when they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. French And Indian War Turning Point Essay The French and Indian War Turning Point During the French and Indian War, many things changed like the forced quartering of soldiers, the end of salutary neglect, and self–government, while the colonies not wanting to unite, the feeling of not being represented in parliament from the colonists, and the neglect of a redress of the colonists' grievances from the king stayed the same. In the colonies, before the French and Indian war, life was good. Things were simple in Britain's relationship with the colonies, they traded with each other and Britain gave salutary neglect to the colonists trading with people they were not supposed to trade with. Everybody was happy and taxes were limited, and internal taxing was not something Britain did. Mercantilism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want part it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the British army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the war was finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king had not internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace, there were standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these were made okay because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to provide housing and supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The Stamp Act forced us to have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act put excessive taxes on tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the colonists upset. But what upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the colonies elected into Parliament, making them feel like they were not represented the way they should be. The intolerable acts were also implemented, which threatened their self–government, so they fought back against Britain by creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the Continental Congress, the colonies then decided to unite and declare independence from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Personal Statement : Auto Mechanics As far as I could recall, I have always been a person who loves to help other individuals. I remember being in the second grade and most of the times I would finish my classwork earlier than most of my classmates. And, I would usually ask my classmates if they needed help with their work. Also, during recess, I enjoyed playing sports, such as basketball and soccer. Not to mention, I would often stay after school to play basketball with my schoolmates. Furthermore, I also enjoyed playing with my hot wheel cars at home and at times I pretended to fix my cars just like my dad, who is a mechanic. I guess I grew to love cars from an early age because every weekend my father would fix cars, so I was always around cars during my childhood. However, I never developed the passion to seek a career in auto mechanics. I love cars, but I never viewed it as a potential career. Equally important, like around the age of nine or ten I would help my grandfather clean his garden. It was from this experience that I learned how to turn on a lawnmower. Most of the times I would help my grandfather trim trees or go with him to clean houses. I believe that I grew so much as a person during this time. For one because it made me realize that if I did not continue going to school, I would have to rely on a blue–collar job just like my grandfather did. However, working alongside my grandfather and father inspired me to pursue a career in whatever my interest was and more importantly, not to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Oklahoma City Thunder Went Into Oracle Arena On Monday night, the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder went into Oracle Arena and knocked off the Golden State Warriors 108–102 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder were able to win on Monday night, thanks to a 19–point third quarter performance from point guard Russell Westbrook. Westbrook 's play in the third quarter was the key to Oklahoma City 's comeback as they were down 13 points at the half. The first half was not good for the Thunder or Westbrook as he struggled with his jump shot. As a team, the Thunder shot 45.5 percent from the field but shot 50.0 percent from three–point range, which kept them in striking distance. But what killed Oklahoma City in the first two quarters was turnovers as they had 10. Those 1o turnovers, lead to 15 points for the Warriors. As I mentioned earlier, Westbrook struggled on offense as he was getting outplayed by his counterpart, two–time MVP Stephen Curry. In the first half, Curry had 14 points on 5–of–11 shooting from the field, to go along with six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Westbrook was getting beat at his own game, which is stuffing the stat sheet and making an impact in every facet of the game. In the first half, Westbrook only scored three points, as he shot a horrendous 1–of–8 from the field. With Westbrook not making an impact in the scoring department, he made sure to get his teammates involved early and often as he dished out eight assists in the first half. • 32. The Basketball Association And The Nba The National Basketball Association, or the NBA, is a men's professional basketball league in the USA. The National Basketball Association was born in 1949 after the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League merged as one. Maurice Podoloff was elected head of the new league that consisted of seventeen teams which came from cities and towns all across the country. The NBA did not have a great start with its teams dwindling to only eight teams in the 1950s. At this point, the league transformed the game with the addition of the shot clock. The shot clock in the NBA is 24 seconds, meaning the offensive team has 24 seconds from the time they inbound the ball until the ball hits the rim on their side of the court. This addition increased the pace of the game and made it more fun for fans to watch. Their transformation worked, and the league returned to a financially stable one in the 1960/70s. Today, the NBA has millions of fans from all walks of life, all over the world. The league now consists of 30 teams from various states in North America as well as one team from Canada. The teams are divided into two conferences and then three divisions of five teams each. To play the sport of basketball there are players; five on the court at a time, coaches, a basketball, two hoops, high–top shoes to protect player's ankles, and a court with specific lines painted out to represent boundaries. As a league, the NBA makes roughly 5.18 billion dollars ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rather than come back for his senior year and get his degree, he elected to make himself eligible for the NBA draft. With a NCAA championship under his belt, Thurman was confident he was ready for the NBA, but NBA scouts had different ideas. Thurman could only sit and watch the draft from start to finish. Fizer implies that college basketball is merely a stepping stone on the way to professional basketball. Statements like these illustrate how the game of basketball has transformed in recent years from a competitive sport to a business. Old school basketball consisted of student athletes competing fiercely just for the love of the game. Dunks and dollar signs seem to be the main motivational factors that influence Fizers generation of athletes. Something positive can be taken from the precedents Thurman and Fizer; both at least started a college education and made positive contributions to the game. Each year the number of high school athletes that go directly to the NBA increases. In recent years Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett have become household names with huge contracts. Both of them have risen to stardom after making the jump directly from high school. With all of the hype surrounding these success stories, little is mentioned about those not so fortunate. Like Garnett, Ronnie Fields attended Farragut Academy. In 1997 Fields attempted to follow Garnetts path to the NBA rather than accept a scholarship from a major university. How many of you are sick of seeing the same teams in the finals every year? I'm sure there are thousands of you out there that feel this way, as do I. The way we can fix these problems is to demand that the NBA enforce a hard salary cap. A hard salary cap would lower ticket prices, allow for more teams to be more competitive and eliminate the possibility of any future lockouts. We as fans should not pay these outlandish ticket prices. A hard salary cap is the only thing that will lower salaries and ticket prices. If ticket prices aren't lowered, I personally feel that the players can kiss their pay checks goodbye. But what do other people think. Some people believe that NBA arenas will fill up in spite of high ticket prices. Just last year Michael Jordan made 33.14 million dollars while the whole Chicago Bulls salary cap was 26.9 million, and all season long seats were filled. That means to some that no matter the amount, people will continue to attend NBA games. To the people that believe this, I must remind them of Major League Baseball and the situation that they faced just a few years back. First, players' salaries skyrocketed to obscene levels, alienating their average fan. Next, the players couldn't decide how to divide up their millions. Finally, they quit playing the game and their fans quit caring about Major League Baseball. Does any of this sound familiar? This is exactly what's happening in the NBA right now. If it happened to the American Pastime it can, and certainly will, happen to the NBA. Yet people, in spite of the lower ticket prices provided by a hard salary cap, aren't convinced that a hard salary cap is a good idea. They feel that players ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Should College Athletes Be Paid? Essay With the passing of another academic year, fans were able to enjoy yet another nail–biting NCAA Basketball Tournament and a highlight filled football season. Most would agree that the NCAA provides competitive sport as popular as the professionals. In fact, its annual revenue makes that point clear. College football and basketball generate more than the National Basketball Association, a total of more than $6 billion yearly.[1] There is one major difference between the two associations, however. NBA players get paid for the revenue they help bring in, while NCAA athletes receive no monetary compensation. The promise of a free education is not enough anymore if the NCAA wants to act as a money making business, and not reward those who help make it profitable. If the NCAA does not want to pay college athletes, than it should not hold these players back from entering the professional game. However, colluding with the NBA and the NFL, athletes are restricted when it comes to joining the pro ranks. With these two ideas combined, athletes are drawn to the college game out of necessity, and not always desire. Some writers, like Stanley Eitzen, have even compared the system to indentured servitude or a "plantation system."[2] Concerning the revenue sports of men's basketball and football, the players should be entitled to some monetary compensation for their work, as well as the right to enter the professional leagues at an age that suits their abilities. I already know a great deal about Jordan because I have studied his career and practically memorized his credentials, both as an athlete and a thriving businessperson. I often found myself staring at my ceiling at night reciting free–throw percentages and such. Should Jordan have returned for the second time, or should he have stayed away from the basketball ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There could be a few reasons for this. One is that they are afraid that Jordan will turn his team into another dynasty and dominate the NBA again. Other reasons could be that they simply do not want to see Jordan take a chance on ruining his legendary title of the greatest basketball player of all time. I must say that ticket sales do not lie and overall, Jordan's return was a success on this parameter of the subject. Secondly, Jordan's performance is another subject matter to contend with when questioning his return to basketball. It is well known that Jordan has performed well throughout his career, but how does his performance after his return compare to his previous statistics? As per the player profiles of Yahoo Sports, Jordan's Minutes Per Game average were "38.8" in 1997 before his retirement and "34.9" in 2001, the first year of his return. These numbers show little reduction in playing time. The slight decline, however, is likely due to fatigue that occurs late in the game. When looking at his points per game, I, again, see no major deficit between the two years. In 1997 he tallied "28.7" ppg (points per game), and in 2001 his numbers only dropped to "22.9" ppg (Yahoo Sports). These numbers show me that Jordan can still adequately play the game. If his number were drastically lower, however, I might reconsider my claim. Based on these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Why Salary Caps Are Truly Unfair The debates have gone on every sense the very first year free agency was introduced. I think after all this paper is done I truly believe that I will be able to show you evidence on why salary caps are truly unfair. So let 's have some facts that prove my theory with facts from their lives. Most coaches can look at talent and see potential at such a young age. When coaches see this they push Athletes to the next level making them ready for the college. That's why you see kids pushing themselves so hard in the gym, they think they can make it to the league. Look at it this way, in all sports except baseball, the chances of going pro are less than 2%. So why pay these guys what they worked their whole entire life for get paid, they honestly deserve it. Let's look at it this way, Professional athletes have worked their entire life for everything they now have. Salary caps are not a problem in sports, this has been a very heated debate throughout every year in sports. There 's new free agents every single year, with some of the potential who deserve more than 300 million dollars over the next 10 years. Then there's some who don't even come close to making 1 million on a one year deal. Many people sit here and could fire rapid shots on why salary caps should be established in sports. While others believe that this could stop some people of what they should be making. Thats besides the point, I 100% believe that salary caps should be abolished in pro sports. I have some great ... • 58. Analysis : ' Grit ' And ' The Baby Faced Assassin ' By... Any discussion revolving around the two–time NBA MVP and world champion Stephen Curry that doesn't bring up his rise from an undersized, scrawny point guard to the "baby–faced assassin" of the Association are few and far between. Likewise, Kevin Pelton's excellent article is no exception to the rule. In it, he mentions Curry as one of the prime examples showcasing a new definition of "grit" postulated by University of Pennsylvania Professor Angela Duckworth: coining it as "passion and perseverance for long–term goals." Indeed, he is deserving of the myriad of praise he garnered over the last few years, overcoming many doubts surrounding him as he was entering the league and inspiring young players, showing them that you don't need to be a freak athlete along the lines of LeBron James to have success at the highest level. With that said, however, Curry's six–foot–three frame isn't exactly short or undersized by NBA standards at the point guard position. In fact, according to Draft King, the average size for drafted point guards since 1987 is 6'1", 187 lbs – just right around Curry's height. Surprisingly, a player who has faced an arguably more difficult path than Curry to the National Basketball Association is often overlooked in such discussions of grit and overcoming obstacles. I'm referring to Mr. Isaiah Thomas, the Celtics' point guard standing at 5'9". However, I want be completely clear here: none of this is meant to take away from Stephen Curry and what he has ...
