2. Hello, we are Freddie, Joe, Henry and Vinay and we
are students at Sutton Grammar School for Boys. We
are the creators of U-spell and have spent the past
couple of months working on this project. Our app is
designed for parents and carers of children who wish
them to learn their spellings for school in an easier and
more fun way than writing them out again and again.
By using tablets, we are encouraging and teaching the
next generation how to use gadgets in a positive way
and to help them achieve the highest marks for spelling
at their schools.
3. What problem are we addressing?
Ms Corkery, our Computing teacher, has told the
class of how she wishes that there was a good app for
spelling on tablets. After research confirming this,
we decided to try and change this problem with U-
Spell.
4. “Why can‟t there be a tablet
application that can help my child
effectively learn their personal
spellings?”
5. My Insight
Even in secondary school, we have to do spelling tests
and there are no mobile applications that could teach
me how to spell words such as Enjambment or
Machiavellian.
6. We are designing U-Spell to help
children of all ages prepare
effectively for their personal
spelling tests on mobile devices.
7. Who would use U-Spell?
This app is perfect for pupils who do not have much
time and could therefore revise their own spellings on
the bus or in the car etc.
8. Competitors
Ray’s Spelling- Our teacher, Ms
Corkery, uses this application with
her children and told us that it is
fantastic. It’s one problem is that it is not available on
tablets or phones.
Spelling City- This app is quite popular and aesthetically
pleasing however it has one crucial downfall. It does not
allow you to enter your own words and so this is where our
selling point shall be.
9. Core Feature
Our app‟s core feature is that you can create your own
spelling tests for your child‟s own learning. Our app is
the only mobile one out there that would allow you to
do this.
10.
11. The Menu
This was designed to be easily
navigated and understood
with large and few buttons.
14. Feasibility
U-Spell can be easily programmed on current devices
as it does not include large files or huge volumes of
data as text is one of the smallest file types. Also it
does not require internet connection or a fast processer
for the device.
15. Interest and Pledges
My (Freddie‟s) mother works in a primary school and
says that a lot of children could benefit from our
application. Also, in our class many have expressed
interest in U-Spell as a way to quickly revise for our
fortnightly spelling tests in English. Our app would be
£1.49 so cheap and accessible to all.
16. Marketing
Flyers in schools: This would directly access our target
audience and make them consider downloading U-
Spell.
Social Media Advertising: We could (and have) created
Twitter or Facebook pages to promote our apps and
anybody who liked or commented on any of our posts
would make the pages appear on all their friends feeds,
therefore increasing audience size.
Reviews: By applying for our app to be reviewed on
sites such as Mashable or Download.com, we could be
advertised through there and increase popularity and
reputation.
17. Wildcard
As this PowerPoint is being made, we
are in the process of creating a U-Spell
Facebook page to help advertise and
promote our application.
Editor's Notes
What is the background situation you are addressing? Describe the context users are experiencing.Example: BuzzerBuddiez: Who? Students What? Students are studying for exams When? 7am Where? Student dorm Why? Late night cramming, student likely to oversleep
What specific problem do people encounter in that situation? Use the results from your user researchExamples: BuzzerBuddiez: your alarm does not work and you are thus late for: school, work, exams, doctor etc Transit: Many parents don’t speak English and their children have to translate the feedback that a teacher provides. When the feedback is negative students mistranslate. Oyster on the Go: You don’t remember how much money you have left on your pay-as-you-go Oyster card and run out of credit when you urgently need to get on a train Cattle Manager: You need to run backwards and forwards between the office and your cows, taking notes on paper and wasting time or loosing notes
What core question are you addressing with the app? Examples: BuzzerBuddiez: how can you avoid oversleeping? Transit: how can negative teacher feedback be translated accurately? Oyster on the Go: how can you be more aware of how much credit you still have on your Oyster card? Cattle Manager: how can you keep track of injections for your cows while you are out and about looking after them?
To introduce the judges to your team and the product, include your final min elevator pitch here.Example: - Buzzer Buddiez: Our team, [Buzzer Buddiez], is developing [a mobile app] to help [students] [who have studied late and are likely to oversleep because they hit snooze on their alarm clock] [to wake up on time with the help from friends and family]

Summarise what you have learnt about data, content and technical feasibility. This is crucial, if your product relies heavily on any of these areas. If your product does not rely on them heavily, please explain why. This will show that your team has really understood feasibility well.
