What situation are we trying to address?
The situation that we are addressing is advice for new pet owners
who are facing issues with their pet; health, feeding, habitat,
playing and exercise, holidays (if you take your pet or leave it at
home) so that they can make the most of having a pet.
Mini Pitch
We are trying to ensure that all pet owners
are comfortable with caring for their pets.
Our market research has shown that 83%
of 80 pet owners would like to have some
guidance to refer back to in times when
they, the owner, is struggling with a certain
aspect of pet care. We believe an app is
the most suitable way to get information as
accessibility is our priority.
User profiles
We have made a survey to collect market research to tell us
about our potential users. In this survey, we asked the
following question to pet owners: how confident do you feel
about pet care?
• The majority of our potential users said that they generally do fine,
but could use some guidance at times to help with difficult situations.
• A fair number of our potential users said that they have no idea what
they are doing, and they would really benefit from an app on their
smartphone or tablet which is easy-to-use and can give them
information on where to start.
• In addition, another survey we conducted found that people prefer
having information on their smartphone or tablet than having to look
on their computer or in a book, so many people will look for an app
first and this will make our product popular.
• Therefore, we believe that our app can attract a significant number of
users and create a steady user base.
Core issues
We are attempting to answer the questions:
“How do I care for my pet,” and “what’s
best for my pet?”
We will answer these questions by
providing information on all areas of pet
care, and present it in an simple app that
allows for ease of use.
Unique features
The main feature of our app that brings something
new to the table is the simple fact that it is an easy
to use and easily accessible app. The information
given in our app can be found elsewhere.
However, it is not easy to come by information
about pet care, especially that which is relating to
a specific subject e.g. Should I take my cat to the
vet if it has…?
Additionally, we found that people will often have
to consult multiple websites in order to find the
information they need. Our product is an app, so
our users will be able to go to their smartphone,
open an app, and find the information they need
within a matter of seconds.
Our app is beats rival apps because it
contains all the advice you need
instead of just specific topics, and the
information is all in one place making
it easily accessible.

The technical feasibility of our app
Our app involves giving pet owners information,
in an easily accessible manner. Our app gives:
health, playing and care advice which has been
researched by us. However, as we are the only
people doing the research; we have only
incorporated information on dogs, cats and
rabbits. This is a viable app idea, as it simply
requires information to be displayed.
Marketing
We haven chosen to offer our app for free as it
is simply a source of information for new pet
owners and so we want to make sure that all the
people can get this opportunity without using
any money.

Core marketing activities
We have done 3 main marketing activities to raise
awareness about our app:
1. We have created a promotional video. The aim of this is
to get people interested by showing an engaging video.
2. We have also created a website, which will have a brief
introduction not only to our app itself, but also to some of
the information in it, allowing our people to have a taste
of how easy-to-use and helpful our app is.
3. As well as the two things mentioned above, we have
done small things which have helped to create a brand
for our app, which will suggest professionalism, and
bring more users into our user-base.

9.3 Group 6 Apps for Good Competition Entry 2015

  • 1. Pet Master By Daanish Ghaffar, Michael Hallam, Samuel Hilton & Martin Ramalingum
  • 2. What situation are we trying to address? The situation that we are addressing is advice for new pet owners who are facing issues with their pet; health, feeding, habitat, playing and exercise, holidays (if you take your pet or leave it at home) so that they can make the most of having a pet.
  • 3. Mini Pitch We are trying to ensure that all pet owners are comfortable with caring for their pets. Our market research has shown that 83% of 80 pet owners would like to have some guidance to refer back to in times when they, the owner, is struggling with a certain aspect of pet care. We believe an app is the most suitable way to get information as accessibility is our priority.
  • 4. User profiles We have made a survey to collect market research to tell us about our potential users. In this survey, we asked the following question to pet owners: how confident do you feel about pet care? • The majority of our potential users said that they generally do fine, but could use some guidance at times to help with difficult situations. • A fair number of our potential users said that they have no idea what they are doing, and they would really benefit from an app on their smartphone or tablet which is easy-to-use and can give them information on where to start. • In addition, another survey we conducted found that people prefer having information on their smartphone or tablet than having to look on their computer or in a book, so many people will look for an app first and this will make our product popular. • Therefore, we believe that our app can attract a significant number of users and create a steady user base.
  • 5. Core issues We are attempting to answer the questions: “How do I care for my pet,” and “what’s best for my pet?” We will answer these questions by providing information on all areas of pet care, and present it in an simple app that allows for ease of use.
  • 6. Unique features The main feature of our app that brings something new to the table is the simple fact that it is an easy to use and easily accessible app. The information given in our app can be found elsewhere. However, it is not easy to come by information about pet care, especially that which is relating to a specific subject e.g. Should I take my cat to the vet if it has…? Additionally, we found that people will often have to consult multiple websites in order to find the information they need. Our product is an app, so our users will be able to go to their smartphone, open an app, and find the information they need within a matter of seconds.
  • 7. Our app is beats rival apps because it contains all the advice you need instead of just specific topics, and the information is all in one place making it easily accessible.

  • 10. Pages list (Pops up after pressing an animal name on the start page e.g. ‘Dogs’), showing different articles on different aspects of looking after pets (e.g. playing).   • 12. The technical feasibility of our app Our app involves giving pet owners information, in an easily accessible manner. Our app gives: health, playing and care advice which has been researched by us. However, as we are the only people doing the research; we have only incorporated information on dogs, cats and rabbits. This is a viable app idea, as it simply requires information to be displayed.
  • 13. Marketing We haven chosen to offer our app for free as it is simply a source of information for new pet owners and so we want to make sure that all the people can get this opportunity without using any money. FREE, HIGH- QUALITY PRODUCT!
  • 14. Core marketing activities We have done 3 main marketing activities to raise awareness about our app: 1. We have created a promotional video. The aim of this is to get people interested by showing an engaging video. 2. We have also created a website, which will have a brief introduction not only to our app itself, but also to some of the information in it, allowing our people to have a taste of how easy-to-use and helpful our app is. 3. As well as the two things mentioned above, we have done small things which have helped to create a brand for our app, which will suggest professionalism, and bring more users into our user-base.
