Marcel Duchamp ( 1887-1968 )
Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968) was a French artist, known for his contributions to the Dada
movement and for his influence on other artists that followed him. He was born in Blainville–sur–
Crevon, a small town in northern France where his father served as a notary. His mother was
artistically inclined and thus Duchamp became interested in sketching and painting when he was a
teenager. At the age of seventeen, he moved to Paris to study art at the Académie Julian. As a young
artist, he was influenced by Cubism and Futurism, the two new art movements that were developing
at the time. The Cubist artists reduced objects (or people) to basic shapes and tried to show different
sides of images at once. The Futurists wanted to find ways to depict ... Show more content on

In some cases he also created art by altering posters found on the street or prints of works by other
artists.
During the period of World War I (1914–1918), Duchamp became associated with a group of
Parisian artists known as the Dadaists. Dada was an art movement that was characterized by a "spirit
of anarchic nihilism." The Dadaists were reacting to the madness of the European culture that had
found itself engaged in a bloody, devastating war. In the words of Tomkins, "dada's organized
insanity was a direct response to the nightmare of unending, meaningless slaughter in the trenches."
Another writer, Sarane Alexandrian, describes Dada as "a detonation of anger which showed itself in
insults and buffoonery." The Dadaists also attacked the traditional values of art. As claimed by Hans
Richter in his book on the Dada movement, these attacks were meant to mock the pretensions of
European culture and the traditional obsession of artists, art critics and art lovers with "all that is
holy."
Dada is often referred to as "anti–art" and the Dada movement is often called an "anti–movement."
As noted by Alexandrian, the Dadaists seemed to be interested in rejecting everything that existed in
art and culture at the time. In Alexandrian's words, "it was an anti–movement which opposed not

Community Options Advantages And Disadvantages
Advantages The organization I decided to survey was United Community options of Miami. UCO of
Miami is a Non–Profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. UCO has a day
program for adults where they can participate in recreational activities, go on excursions and also
offer adults with disabilities employment skills training. United Community options was established
in 1947 and has always aimed to being accessible for people with disabilities. The first thing I notice
when I entered the parking lot was that UCO had four accessible parking spots and out of those four
spots two are van accessible. They also have accessible drop off areas and accessible routes to get to
the entrance. The front door which is 64 inches wide is automatic and stays open until the person
passes through. The front door leads to the lobby which is very wide and has enough space for
people that use wheel chairs to enter without obstruction getting in the way. The whole building is
leveled and doesn't require ramps for the front entrance. Once past the front lobby there are a
sequence of hallways you can take in order to get where you want to. Most of the hall ways measure
from 59 inches to 84 inches wide and are leveled. Most objects like fire extinguishers or drinking
fountains or signs protrude no more then four inches from the wall. United Community Options of
Miami is a one floor building and doesn't required the need to use elevators of any kind to access the

The Space Of Millennium Park
The space of Millennium Park is defined by rows of trees which outline the perimeter of the park on
all four sides. The trees on the outline of the park create a buffer between the park and the busy city
streets. Internally, the trees within the park serve as a dividing barrier for smaller spaces/attractions,
allowing different spaces to communicate different functions and ideas. A majority of space within
Millennium Park all rise above the human scale. The surrounding buildings and skyscrapers serve as
a reminder of how little we are compared to the vast size of the city. Interesting, although humans
are small relatively compared to the park. The surroundings reflect what we are capable of and the
scale of what we can achieve. Territory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boundaries within the garden are created through the trees and hedged on the outer perimeter. Inside
the park, the limestone curbs/walls define the spaces that the plants occupy. They also serve as
barriers in order to prevent visitors from going directly into the garden.
Spaces like the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the Great Lawn individually create space through division
of territory. The Great Lawn is defined by a large area of cut grass. The enormous space welcomes
onlookers from every direction of the park. It's flat and soft surface allows visitors to freely dictate
how they want to use the space, ranging from relaxing to engage in physical activities. The Jay
Pritzker Pavilion defines itself separately from the Great Lawn by using cement as a surface instead
of grass. Individuals that occupy this space are welcomed by a fixed seating area, unlike the lawn
where people can freely occupy a space. Collectively, the two spaces are hard to miss, because they
tower over a majority of trees and sculpture in the park. Relative to the human scale, the metal
frames and interlocking steel pipes that stretch across the Great Lawn mimic the ambiance of an
indoor concert hall.

Analysis Of The Film 'The Fountain'
"The Fountain" by Darren Aronofsky is a film that depicts Tommy's Denial towards death. This film
is the journey of one man in his past, present, and future. In the film, Tommy has a very stubborn
mindset; he believes that death is a disease and that there is a cure for every disease. On the other
hand, Izzi, Tommy's wife is very accepting towards the thought of death and her intentions are to
prove to Tommy that death is not as bad as it may seem. As the film progresses, Tommy's
acceptance towards death begins to gradually increase.
Thomas is seen in the past where the guardian of the tree stabs him as he mentions " death is the
road to awe" The film the continues with Tommy in the future ingesting a piece of the tree of life.
Izzi then is seen asking Tommy to go with her but Tommy chooses his job over Izzi. During this
time Tommy's ring appears to go missing. In the process of Donovan's surgery Tommy uses a piece
of the tree of life in attempt of curing Donovan. In the past Isabel gives Thomas the ring as a
promise to her if Thomas finds the tree of life to save Spain.
Izzi then shows Tommy a nebula wrapped around a dying star. Mayans call it Shibalba, it represents
their underworld. Izzi finds it fascinating that mayans choose a dying star as their underworld, once
the nebula explodes it will create stars. This rises the statement of "death is an act of creation. At this
time Izzi begins to tell Tommy about the story of the first father and how he sacrificed himself

Essay On Villa Lante
INTRODUCTION
Located in central Italy, in Viterbo, Villa Lante is a true example of a Renaissance Italian garden. It
is considered to be one of the finest illustration of a mannerist garden design since its elements style
are exaggerated in their art.
HISTORY
The construction of the site started in 1566 by two bishop men who followed each other; the first
one was Gian Francesco Gambarra, and the second was Alessandro Montalto. The combination of
Gambarra, a mature man, and Montalto, an adolescent, would produce one of the strangest Italian
villa and park. This garden was at first a preserved hunting park, but after realizing the Cardinal's
dream, it got converted into magnificent landscaped grounds that we find today. This work was
mainly attributed to one of the great architects of the 16th century, Giacomo Barozzi, known as ''Il
Vignola''. Thomas Chiruchi was also a main part of the site's magnificent creation since he was the
hydraulic engineer that adjusted all the waterworks to perfection. In fact, as we'll see later on, water
is the main feature that will bring together all the components of the garden in a poetic harmony.

These loggias provide a place for relaxation. Their sides frame the large Fountain of the Deluge that
terminates the main axis of the garden. They are covered by a roughened texture to harmonize with
the natural rough rock of the Fountain. Plus, water conduits set in their eaves project jets of water to
complete a visual ensemble known as the 'theatre of the waters'. These spouts may sprinkle visitor
by surprise. The Fountain of the Flood forms a visual conclusion to the whole. In a more general
sense, it provides an underlying theme that is developed throughout the entire garden. The leitmotiv
here is Water, coming out in its natural state from a rocky slope. Symbolically speaking, all
fountains depend on water for their

What Is The Appeal Of Roman Holiday
Careening through Rome on a Vespa, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck are famous for their
outstanding contributions to the classic film, Roman Holiday, but too often a third key player, the
eternal city itself, whose role adds meaningful allegories and timeless appeal, is overlooked as
merely a backdrop. The movie opens with a grand introduction to the life of young Princess Ann,
who is traveling on a goodwill tour through Europe. Later, the film pans up from the crowded
winding streets to a struggling low–end news writer, Joe Bradley gambling in a musty apartment.
That night, the princess, overwhelmed by her tightly regimented and boring elitist life, escapes from
the palace in Rome where she is staying, only to collapse exhausted on a back street bench. When,
by total coincidence, Bradley stumbles upon her and obligingly tries to help, she lies about her
identity in hopes of experiencing normal life. Bradley, realizing the truth, aims to obtain the scoop
of a lifetime and solve his money problems forever. The following day, he takes her on a grand tour
of Rome in what becomes a laughable journey as they fall in love, despite the limitations of social
hierarchy. Through its setting in the eternal city, the spectacular love story takes on deeper meanings
and appeal. In innumerable ways, through its intransience and urban planning, Rome perfectly
accentuates the duo's challenges in this timeless love story. In many ways, Rome's grandeur was a
significant foundation for the

The Love Of Water : My Love For Water
Most likely my obsession with oceans was born in the sensory playground of my mother's womb.
The yearning to float weightlessly on warm, soothing waves is one of my earliest emotional
connections. This attraction for water has been the basis for the majority of my life choices. Where I
choose to live, work, play and travel are predicated on being on, in or near an ocean or a beach.
Nevertheless a lake, river, pool or even a Jacuzzi will suffice as alternatives.
This love for water deepened as our family sojourned from one Naval base to another. Before my
eighteenth birthday, I had dipped my toes in the waves at least eleven beaches, from the island of
Saipan to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This mobile childhood sparked a lifelong passion to
travel the world, seeking the natural beauty of God's magnificent creation. Water covers nearly
three–quarters of the earth, therefore the opportunities to nourish my soul are more than abundant.
Listening to the symphony of waves, discovering seashells, popping kelp bulbs and making
footprints in the damp sand still evoke many of my fondest memories. My inner child playfully
emerges to frolic whenever my bare feet find a sandy shore. Sunbathing on a beach towel has never
appealed to me. Give me a boogie board, inner tube, surfboard, kayak or sailboat to fill my
scrapbook with memories.
Wherever I travel, inevitably water plays a part in the itinerary. The Trevi fountain in Rome, the
canals of Venice, the crystal clear lakes of

Descriptive Essay On The Castle
The next morning, after a delicious breakfast of croissants, coffee and fresh fruit in the beautiful
garden (Pietro's pride and joy), Mariana and Murat packed a picnic basket of bread, tomatoes,
nectarines and pecorino cheese, and climbed back in their car. 'So,' explained Mariana as they set
off. 'This castle isn't a major tourist site, but my parents and I used to visit this castle a lot when I
was little, just because it's so beautiful. It's actually a private home, but they still let people look
around. The castle itself dates back to 802, and its "guests and conquerors" include Federico
Barbarossa, Federico II, Pius VII and Fernando de' Medici, not to mention Charlemagne, King of
the Franks !' 'Really?' replied Murat with surprise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

intelligent and beautiful and kind, someone who I thought could share my life goals and make me

two stars as she stared at him. Already sitting, Murat swivelled round so that he was kneeling on one
knee. 'Mariana,' he continued, his heart racing. 'I love you. I've loved you since the moment I first
saw you sitting in the library, the most beautiful woman that I'd ever seen. The better I get to know
you, the more I love you. I can't think of anything that would make me happier than to spend the rest
of my life with you. I spoke to your father last night and asked for his permission to propose to you,
which he as happy to give me, along with is blessing. All I need to know now is, do you feel the

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Fountain '
Tommy in the Fountain is a character faced with the dilemma of mortality in the physical realm and
can not accept the grim, inevitable death that faces all of humankind. In the world of The fountain,
there are three planes of existence which correlate to the past, present, and future/consciousness.
Darren Aronofsky intertwines these three times periods creating a nonlinear perspective of time, but
it is in line with the general plot of the movie. Aronofsky wants the viewer to link the time periods
together where the past is the story depicted in the book, and the future can be seen as his
consciousness. A character that stays apparent in these settings is Izzi. Izzi guides the main character
to accept the grim fate of death and to reach a state of knowledge which will potentially enlighten
him. She helps Tommy understand the meaning of death by bringing the immediacy and expectancy,
and forcing Tommy to finish it, referring to the book and his understanding of death. Completing the
book results in the journey that Tommy takes to enlightenment, the acceptance.
The relationship between these characters really create the whole importance of realizing death is
ultimately an act of creation. Present day Tommy is faced with a cancer stricken Izzi where she is
enlightened during her death and "immortalized". Izzi is also depicted as the tree of life in Tommy's
consciousness and Queen Elizabeth of Spain. The Tree of Life is a symbol of immortality, with Izzi
dying in the

Descriptive Vacation
"Forever"
I will forever be tied there. Everything about it – the food, the air, the smell, the sights – was
wonderful! It all started when my great grandpa Forst died and left my mom money. He loved to
travel, so my mom knew that we should use the money for travel. A couple of years later my parents
said,
"We're going to Italy."
"Really?!" I exclaimed.
"You better believe it, or you're not going!"
" I believe it, I believe it!!!!" As soon as I stepped into the airport, I knew it was going to be an
adventure I would never forget. We took a plane from Norfolk to Atlanta, and then to Italy. As we
got on the plane to Italy, I realized how exciting this was going to be. My heart was pounding as I
looked at my ticket and saw that we were all in first class. Even the flight was a new experience. We
were offered gourmet food for dinner – steak, soup, salad, and dessert. Then for breakfast I had
french toast.Yum! The seats reclined into beds, they had sheets, blankets, and big fluffy pillows. I
couldn't sleep. For most of the 9 hour flight, I looked out the window, talked and watched TV.
We arrived in florence at 11:00 a.m. even though it felt like night. We checked in and had our first
meal in Italy. I had a little bowl of heaven, pasta with meat sauce! My sister had a sort of flatbread
sandwich called a panini, but our vacation was not just relaxing. We got to work soon.
Heart pounding, shallow breath, darkness, and then finally... the sun broke through like a trophy
waiting to be given. We climbed the Duomo right after we climbed the bell tower. Imagine climbing
a 20 story skyscraper – that's what we did. But we didn't do just that. After Florence, we went to San
Gimignano (which my dad and I call Saint Jimmy Johns) and took a cooking class. We got to eat the
delicious food we made! We devoured steak and peppercorn stew, salad and Tiramisu, which is like
an ice cream that's not ice cream. We also visited a cheese and wine factory. My mom loved the
wine part, and I just thought it was a bunch of old barrels in a cold room. In the cheese factory, we
had to wear shoe covers. The guide told us how they made the cheese and showed us some samples.
One cheese looked like bread and was made of a bunch of other cheese

Abstract . In This Rhetorical Analysis, The Value Of...
Abstract
In this rhetorical analysis, the value of uniqueness and the use of flavors are expressed in an ad by
Dr. Pepper, a well–known and popular company. These values are found within the appeals of logos,
pathos, and ethos. It also states the history of how this soft drink was created, the creator, and the
year it was created. Logos is expressed when the brand states that it contains 23 flavors and also
includes an image of a bottle with the number 23 as well with other phrases. Pathos is used in the ad
when the company states that no other drink has these flavors, which means the drink is unique,
targeting the audience and persuading them to be special and different. Lastly, ethos is used by us
knowing the history behind the 23 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next was pathos, which appeals to the emotions or what people are feeling. It connects with the
audience by showing or interpreting something the audience relates to or shows interest in. Lastly,
ethos is to what extent the audience trusts an author by relying on their word and reputation. The
author's credentials support what they are trying to convey or the message they are trying to send to
the audience about an ad or announcement.
Historical Context
Created, manufactured, and sold as a unique flavor, Dr. Pepper is the oldest in soft drinks in
American history. Charles Alderton, the creator of Dr. Pepper, invented his own beverage flavor in
the small city of Waco, Texas in the year of 1885.
His greatest invention came from the idea of the smell of the different kind of fruit syrups, and the
smell of the drug store he worked in. After giving a sample test of his new drink to the owner of the
drug store, and him liking the taste of it, Alderton gave his invention a greater opportunity to expand
by offering it at the soda fountain. According to Dr. Pepper Museum (2016) His creation of this soft
drink was exceptional, like no other drink, making other soda fountain operators ask for it too. It
came to the point where there was high demand of the product that Alderton and Morrison could not
produce enough for others to purchase. The product was so good that it started to be recognized.
Alderton had no interest in making his own invention a product in the market, so he

City Of Fountains : Creativity And Inspiration
City of Fountains
Creativity and Inspiration Many people living in Kansas City do not appreciate one of the things
their home is known for, fountains. A member of our group originally thought of the nickname "City
of Fountains", so we took that idea and expanded it. Our exhibit would not only educate our
community about a subject they never would have thought of, but would implement a curiosity
about the history of this city for young minds to learn as well. We also thought that the exhibit
should look aesthetically pleasing due to the fact that it would be outside and seen by hundreds of
people each day. Therefore, fountains would be a perfect fit since they are already used for
decoration. Visitors would be able to interact and create fountains of their own design, maybe even
inspiring future engineers in the field. In the end, we concluded this would be the most educational
and exciting exhibit.
One of our many goals we hope to achieve with this presentation is to show the STEM ideas. These
are science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Science: Visitors will explore the science behind fountains, including descriptions of water pressure
and how things of the liking work. Visitors will also be able to control and experiment with water
pressure.
Technology: There will be an attraction placed in the center where visitors will be welcome to use
the tablets provided to use an app made specifically for the exhibit to design fountains, learn facts,
and take quizzes

A Colored Man Drinking From A Water Fountain
Imagine living in a world where the color of your skin mattered. The photograph I chose to analyze
is one that struck me hard due to the harsh reality of our country 's past. This popular photograph
often seen in textbooks is a result of segregation in American history. Captivating is one word I
would use to describe the photo of a colored man drinking from a water fountain. The photograph is
in black and white and helps magnify the importance this photo has today. We can look at this
photograph from our past and for many years to come, try to answer the many questions of why
segregation existed. The gross injustice in treating others of different races poorly will forever haunt
American history and leave white Americans feeling humiliated.
This time in our history is incredibly important to understand. For a great amount of our nation's
history, our people have not lived as equals. It was a foundation in our creation that enslavement and
a hierarchy would be created. Because of our ancestors, "white" was deemed as the supreme race
and all other races would be subordinate. It started with the enslavement and removal of the Native
Americans who lived in this country long before the English, French and Spanish arrived. Then,
following the example set forth by the Spanish in Latin America, the English began importing
African slaves. The goal in this being for them to do the manual labor that was so important for the
development of the United States. However, with

Matthews. It simply states that over a million marines passed their marksmanship training in this
military base from 1917 to 1964 and was deeded to UCSD for higher education purpose. In this
sense, meaning and knowledge are produced through the use of language. In addition, this practice
of showing knowledge is a source of power when using social institutions to express thoughts on
society. As I gaze on the drinking fountain, I suddenly notice that some other viewers at the site
could not see the push button on the side of the drinking fountain from their viewing angles to the
fountain and therefore falsely mislead into the assumption that the drinking fountain for merely

different perspectives on the drinking fountain and the site form a network of power and
relationships that can shape meanings and create differences. It is clear that the meanings of the
drinking fountain are "produced through the complex negotiations that make up social process and
practices through which we produce and interpret images." (Cartwright 49)

feel the texture of the polished granite material. Suddenly, I hear someone yelling behind me. I turn

Proposal : The Rsd Pen
Proposal: The RSD Pen will be produced in order to give the opportunity for students to utilize their
textbooks to their maximum potential, while still being able to resell it for its optimal value. The ink
would last for about three months and after that time period the ink would disappear.
Introduction (Why is this product needed in the market?)
With the rising costs of tuition, it is making it more difficult for students to afford their education.
The market for college textbooks have not really been regulated, which allows these companies to
continuously increase the amount students pay for them. Textbooks have been increasing in prices
for the last few decades as "textbook producers are able to enjoy super–profits" (Farrell, "College
Textbooks Are a Racket"). Many core classes require specific textbooks, and due to this need many
students are obligated to purchase them in order to do well in the course. (Bidwell, "Report: High
Textbook Prices"). Since this is the case in most colleges, they make the prices extremely high so
they would obtain a large profit margin off them. Although there are cheaper alternatives available
such as electronic books, students still feel more inclined to purchase the paper copy, as many of
them prefer having the physical copy in front of them. This is where the invisible pen comes in, as it
is more convenient to actually take notes on the book instead of writing it on another piece of paper
or post it. This is a great alternative for

Bill Fontan An Internationally Reputable Composer And...
Bill Fontana is an internationally reputable composer and pioneering American sound sculptor born
April 25th 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. Since the mid to late 70's Fontana has used sound as a
sculptural medium, able to interact and transform our perceptions of visual and architectural spaces.
Fontana is constantly engaged with the idea that at any moment there will be something musical to
hear in the coherent sound patterns around him. His sound sculptures use the human or natural
environment surrounding as a living source of musical information, often creating multiple networks
of live listening points that relay real time acoustics to a common listening place or sculptural site.
All of Fontana's works produced over the years experiment with process of listening, recording,
relocating and representing found sound patterns. Through discussion of his works and the process
undertaken in his listening for different found sound, the technologies used in recording and relaying
of these sounds to site, and the sites themselves through his works can be seen to complicate the
idea of 'medium' within his practice.
Links from Fontana's background can be seen to have influence upon the development of his
practice. Fontana started his musical career in the 60's as a composition student, attending the New
School for Social Research in New York, studying both music and philosophy. It was here that
Fontana became a student of John Cage's 'Experimental Composition' course at the school. By

Summary Of The PlayDoubt : A Parable?
In the play "Doubt: A Parable" by John Patrick Shanley, Sister Aloysius is a headstrong principal at
a Catholic school in New York in the 1960's. She is a person who speaks her mind, and she will take
whatever means to ensure that she gets her way and keeps her school running in a manner she deems
fit. It seems as if Sister Aloysius is almost afraid of change and new ideas, and she will try her
hardest to keep progress from pushing old ideas that she firmly believes in aside.
While Sister Aloysius sets strict guidelines for her school, in secret she has habits that could be said
are against the guidelines of what is seen as appropriate behavior for nuns, such as listening to the
news on her transistor radio. This radio is a connection to her past life as a wife to a man in the
military, as she used to listen to it for news of the war. It also shows that she is a habitual and
sentimental person. Sister Aloysius' more public habits, however, such as dressing conservatively,
using her fountain pen, and encouraging others to engage in more traditional lessons and hobbies,
back up her outward appearance that she works hard to keep on display as a distinguished principal.
Sister James, another character in the play "Doubt" is a character who contrasts with Sister Aloysius
in many ways. Where Sister Aloysius believes in keeping herself distant from her students, teaching
more traditional subjects, and even goes as far as suggesting that students using ballpoint pens can

water, but the thing is nobody knew that for now. "Why" you would ask, because since there made
of lava the only thing that could cool it down is water. We all know people are terrified enough with
these monsters being on their planet so now they would bring their big humongous battle ship to
take and wipe out all the buildings and people.
Well these monsters just wanted to know what it had looked like above there little world because
their world wasn't all that amusing to them. They saw rollercoasters and parks, kids, and people just
being happy. In their underground world the only thing they had seen was destruction. They wanted
to take over their world so they could make it into their own little world and the people would have
to live underground forever. The monsters started crushing everything in their path even there big
tanks that were blasting at them, which must have really hurted. They did not do a thing to that
hideous beast.
These guys were unstoppable and no one could get in there way,

Does Water Fountains Affect The Spread Of Toilet In Schools?
Science 9 Research Project: Water Fountains Vs. Toilets
Schools are one of the germiest places in the U.S., as well as all over the world. Diseases such as
colds, influenza, pink eye and others spread rapidly in warm, moist conditions, which is why they
thrive in schools. Kids touch just about everything and don't know much about hygiene, and don't
clean their hands properly, which further causes the spread of these nasty germs and bacteria. This
problem has been going on for a long time, and it is a battle that will continue to be fought. Among
the germiest hotspots in schools is water fountains. Kids touch the button and drink the water, which
comes from a spout that is covered in germs because of kids that suck or touch the spout with ...

You will need 11.5 grams of Nutrient Agar mix, a flask, a stir bar, a hot plate, a polystyrene partitian
sterile petri plate, and 500 mls of distilled water. You now have to combine the agar mix and the 500
mls of distilled water and mix together. Put the agar into the 500 mls of distilled water and make
sure the stir bar is in the flask. Put this mix on the hot plate and bring to a boil. Make sure the agar
mix is dissolved before removing from the hot plate. After pouring into the plates, close the lids on
them to prevent condensation. Also important is to use plates within one day of making agar. Make
sure to label the plates properly(name, date, swabbing area). What is especially important during
swabbing is to use sterile cotton Q–tips and to make sure they are not contaminated. To do this, you
should not touch the tip of the swab or put it in contact with anything besides the area being tested.
This general rule should also apply to the plates. To swab, after collecting the sample, gently roll the
tip of the swab against the agar in a zig– zag type motion, making large patterns. This will help you
to achieve better colony growth. Make sure to place the lid back on the plates. After swabbing, place
petri plates in 37 degree celsius incubator and let stand for 4 days, then record data. When collecting
data, make sure to use qualitative and quantitative

Lorado Taft: The Most Important Part Of My Life
Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of The United States of America once said "Just try new
things. Don't be afraid. Step out of your comfort zones and soar, all right." I believe that we should
try new things. I have had the opportunity to do many different things in my life such as going on a
trip to Japan, going to Lorado Taft and doing an engineering and coding class at Rolling Meadows.
All of these experiences were very influential in my life and in all of them I took a chance and they
ended up being helpful experiences that became important parts of my life.
I would like to start with a unique experience during the summer before 8th Grade. I was going on a
14–hour plane ride to Japan where I would stay for 10 days. It would be my first time flying without
my parents and my first time flying over the Pacific Ocean. I was hesitant to go because none of my
friends were going but I took the chance and I am very glad that I did. Before I embarked on the
ten–day trip, the students from Japan came here for a couple days. During that time I went to a
White Sox game, to downtown Chicago and to the Museum of Science ... Show more content on

could only have there such as cross country and river water. During one of these experiences, my

Lorado Taft, I wouldn't have had many experiences that I could only have there, I wouldn't have
learned to work with a team, and I wouldn't have become more independent. Lorado Taft was a great
experience that helped me become the person that I am

Cas About The Pencil Crumbling
Cas liked to sketch. He liked the feel of the pencil crumbling against his paper, he loved the feel of

He nodded his head a little in time with the music that was pouring out from his headphones, gazing

Ephemeral Euphoria Short Story
Ephemeral Euphoria
Life was joyous, for the boy had not yet met with any calamities. The buoyancy in his happiness
reflected his upbringing; slightly spoiled, yet well mannered. It was the boy's eighth birthday;
another year full of delight, but this year, his parents had intended to surprise him. As a collective,
both the boy's parents as well as most of his friends had decided to take the boy to an amusement
park, as a sort of pre–party for his birthday party. They had planned to gather up parade balloons;
giant elephants, giraffes and even rhinos, stuffing them with glitter and candy, then popping them,
creating an abundant array of colours within the sky; one that would mimic a rainbow.
After months of careful planning and consideration, the day had finally arrived; the happiest day of
a boy's life. Having overheard his parents' grand scheme, the boy had already begun to sing 'Happy
Birthday'; skipping along, he had sung the song to everyone. As per usual, he had been sent to
school, though on the day of his birthday, the boy had never reached his destination.
While gracefully skipping his way to school, he had been kidnapped and tossed into a van. Neither
frightened nor scared, he had remained calm as through a slight slit in the bag over his head, the
amusement park was in sight; his eyes sparkled with merriment. The van came to a sudden halt, and
as the doors opened, a blinding light had pierced through the slight slit in the bag that he had been

`` Atonement `` By Ian Mcewan
In today's society, people often times misinterpret things we hear or we tend to make assumptions
about several things such as who said what and worrying about whether or not it was true. It later
becomes a major problem when these misperceptions get out of hand and are used to penalize
someone for something they really didn't do. These people often times can be kids. Teens
specifically tend to have open ears and observe everything. They crave gossip and secrets and they
aren't able to contain themselves and keep it to themselves. Obviously it is possible that they don't
understand what they hear most times, but can easily make it up or give false information. False
accusations lead to difficult situations sometimes critical and can hurt ... Show more content on

Furthermore, McEwan uses symbols alongside, motifs such as the Trials of Arabella in order to
explain Briony's mindset as a child. This suggest and supports the idea that Briony being young is
unable to fully grasp and understand her surroundings.
To begin, in part one of "Atonement" we learn who each character is through the perspective of
different characters. Alongside we get the unique perspective of several scenes that take place. One
very important scene is the fountain scene where Robbie and Cecilia are filling a vase with water
and Robbie causes the vase to slip out of Cecilia's hands breaks some pieces falling into the

The Fly By Katherine Mansfield
The story "The Fly," n by Katherine Mansfield in 1922, paints the picture of an old man who
referred to as the boss, who is grieving from some sort of tragic event that happened to him.
Continuing to read through the story, the narrator goes on to inform the reader that the boss' son was
killed in World War I, and that the boss is still reeling from the death of his son. From a little hinted
symbolism we can connect that the fly itself represents the grief that the boss is going through, while
the inkwell and life are two of the same, and that the ink blots are the boss' attempts at trying to fight
the grief that has overcome his life due to the tragic event that transpired. When the narrator first
talks about the fly, it is at the moment that the boss is looking at the photograph of his son and
talking about how he passed away six years earlier. The fly is said to have "fallen into his broad ink–
pot, and was trying feebly but desperately to clamber out again." The fly is seen as trying to get out
of the pot. Very feebly, the boss helps the fly out of the pot with his pen. The fly in this story comes
to represent the boss that the grief is going through because no matter how hard the fly tries to get
out of the pot by itself, it could not without a little bit of help. Unlike Woodifield, who got over the
death of his son, unlike Macey, who was not close to the son, the boss could not get over the death
of his son. In addition, we are told that the boss has been

stood watching them for some time, each man moving about industriously under the watchful eye of
the captain's first–mate, Ibrahim. Dylan made his way back to the stern of the ship. He stood looking
out at the churning gray–green ocean below. It did not look enticing. In fact, it looked damned cold,
but it was his only way home. Pausing for only a moment to watch the sailors once more, he
wondered if he was going to miss them–this ship, this life. No. He would miss Salim, but that was
all. He so desperately wanted to get home. He took a deep breath, and in one leap before he could
change his mind, threw himself overboard. He hit the water with a huge splash. It wasn't a graceful
dive, more like a flailing fall. The side of his body and his head stung where it hit the water, but that

Research Proposal On Water Fountains
BACKGROUND
The current water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School are broken with poor filtration systems.
The water fountains are also inconvenient for the students and the school. The current water
fountains are costing the school more money, because the filtration is not effective and water is lost.
The old water fountains pose many threats such as making students sick from improper sanitation
and not allowing the students to get the appropriate amount of water they need throughout the day.
The students can be late to class trying to find water, which will cut into their learning time. "Access
to free, potable, and appealing drinking water in schools is important because children spend
substantial time in school settings, and students may come to school already dehydrated" (Pantel).
This text explains the importance of having proper water fountains in school. Students and faculty at
Lawrenceburg High School need new water fountain, because it will be very beneficial to the school
as a whole.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this research proposal is for Lawrenceburg HIgh School to receive functional water
fountains with notable water filtration system. New water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School
would be very beneficial. New water fountains with a better filtration system means water being
saved on the school budget, allowing students to get enough hydration, and being very troublesome
to anyone who wants to use them. The new water fountains will allow students proper

Wait for the teacher to respond with the same hand signal while nodding yes or no.
Stop by the door and pick up the water fountain lanyard.
Walk directly to the nearest water fountain and back remembering hallway behavior the entire time.

Easy Steps To Learn Calligraphy
Easy Steps to Learn Calligraphy
To learn Calligraphy is very essential to excel the writing; that is why we need to take it

enjoy doing calligraphy, and it is not a matter of strange why they admire.
In fact, Calligraphy is a charming tool for attract the spectacles for its artistic expression and a

However, if we comment that is so nice and say that we are not able to learn and earn it that derails

Not stopping in–between strokes. When we make a stroke, finish it all at one go. For example, we
need not make a long "l" by joining a few shorter strokes.
3. Taking it slow. Thinking of "writing" calligraphy as "drawing" instead will help us a lot in our
learning calligraphy. We should draw each stroke and focus on drawing a perfect stroke. We will be
amazed at how this small paradigm shift makes a huge difference in our calligraphy.
Step #5: Correcting our Errors and Perfecting our Craft
We got our basics, we know how to form letters, and we are practicing hard.
Can we now create beautiful calligraphy pieces or crafts worthy of being gifts?
Possible, but probably not yet.
We need to get to the last step – which is learning to detect and correct the errors in our calligraphy.
This is the part where we learn to become an independent calligraphy that is perfectly capable of
coaching self only. We know exactly what a beautiful calligraphy piece is like and how to create it
ourselves.
In the course of learning calligraphy, we will make mistakes. How fast we are going to learn
calligraphy will depend on how fast we can detect these mistakes. Many beginners waste lots of
time and effort practicing without knowing that they are doing it

The effect of ink on termite behavior
Abstract
Termites produce special chemicals within their bodies called pheromones. Because termites are
usually found inside dark areas, pheromones help them communicate in these places. Past studies
have suggested that ink inside ballpoint pens contains pheromones, causing termites to follow any
trail created by the ink. If a pathway is drawn with an ink pen, then a termite will be attracted to the
path and trace it due to the pheromones. To test the behavior of termites in relation with the presence
of ink, we outlined two shapes with two different writing utensils and timed how long out of a sixty
second time period that the termite spent on each path. The results showed ... Show more content on

Our null hypothesis is that if a pathway is drawn with anything other than ink, the termite will not be
attracted to it and will not follow the path drawn.
Methods
Two circles were drawn directly across from each other on plain white paper. One was drawn with a
black Sharpie marker, and the other was drawn with a black ballpoint pen. Three separate termites
were dropped directly in the middle of the two circles, and their reactions were recorded for sixty
seconds. This was repeated once for each termite.
Results
The average time calculated for time spent on the pen outline was 26.9 seconds. The average time
spent on the Sharpie marker outline was 2.4 seconds. The p–value was calculated to be 0.000309 for
the pen and 0.000214 for the Sharpie. The standard deviation for the pen was found to be 25.66 and
3.97 for the Sharpie.
Figure 1. Average Time Spent on Each Writing Utensil per 60 Seconds. Error bars represent one
standard deviation above and below the mean.
Discussion
The results of this experiment support the idea that termites are drawn to follow the pheromones
released from the ink in ballpoint pens rather than paths drawn with other writing utensils. The data
collected shows that the majority of the termites spent a majority of the timed sixty seconds tracing
the outline of the pen as opposed to the outline of the Sharpie marker. The ink

Peace, love and harmony. A saying often used by writers and poets.
People cannot have everything in life, and achieving both peace, love and harmony is rarely

The main character, who goes by the name Rose, loved to play with words, and was convinced that
her love for words could maintain her love for Nat. The year was 1946, and the war was over. The

short story, Nat's feelings for Rose is a personification of the pen. Rose ends things with Nat, but the
memory of him and his love for her, still live inside the pen. Later on Roland lost the pen. This
seems to be a way for Roland to get Nat out of Rose's head, and make her focus on him instead. This
is in many ways very selfish and egoistic. As Roland says himself in line 30 page 114 ["His loss is

After Roland's death, Rose and her daughter Lily found the pen. Rose offered Lily the pen, but she
just laughed. The pen did not mean anything to Lily, because she did not know anything about Nat,
and Roland was her father. Though, it still had a place in Rose's heart, and after Roland's funeral,
Rose wrote one of her lists.

standards. Roland loved to use the pen, because then he had the power over Rose's feelings for

the right thing. Throughout the series, he can be seen offering to help and then turning it into his
own personal gain. In on Stranger Tides, Sparrow acts like he is going to help the king and then
turns against him and escapes. Once he arrives on Blackbeard's ship, Sparrow agrees to help them
find the fountain of youth. Once on the journey, he turns to doing what benefits him; thus, again
blurring the boundaries and using trickery. Captain Barbosa is another character who uses trickery
and blurs boundaries. The rivalry between Sparrow and Barbosa is evident of trickery in how they
build off each other to trick others for their own good. In on Stranger Tides Barbosa acts as a captain
for the British Navy to find Blackbeard who took his leg from him in the past. Barbosa was only
using the Navy to run a ship to follow Blackbeard and find the fountain of youth where he turned
back into a pirate with the motive to kill Blackbeard.

Better Off Friends Character Analysis
Imagine moving from Los Angeles, California to a small town in Wisconsin and not knowing
anyone at the new school. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept
them in the new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg's
Better off Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the
person that befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south,
many people stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in
Los Angeles where he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at
school did not really want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such
good friends in a short amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common,
even though they were from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so
when they hung out just the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not.
This is the second stereotype addressed in the book; a boy and a girl that spend lots of time together
do not have to be a boyfriend and a girlfriend. Throughout middle school and high school, they were
constantly asked if they were dating, when they were not. Therefore, in Better off Friends by
Elizabeth Eulberg, Eulberg addresses stereotypes about where people come from and people of the
opposite gender being just friends. First

Palace Of Florence Apartments
When visiting Tampa, Florida on a family vacation or work–related stop, take a trip to Davis
Islands, and enjoy the view of the magnificent structures placed on the islands. Although there are
historic sites all over the Davis Islands, one residence stood out from the surrounding structures. The
Palace of Florence Apartments shows merely a piece of the historical islands' elegant design abilities
of the mid 1920s, and the beautiful Davis Islands legendary capability to seduce future landowners
looking to procure one of these brilliant architectural sculptures on the once desolate islands. "The
Palace of Florence Apartments provided accommodations with twenty–eight apartment units and

(2010, Summer). The words "Palazzo Firenze" on the courtyard grounds resonates its' Italian name,
and the crimson colored National Registry emblem boastfully presents its' ritzy tradition. Ordinarily,
the breath of a dragon, blows the palm trees rustling their feather like fronds. After all, it is Florida
and the Gulf of Mexico. The warbling and fascinating pocket–sized birds frolic and purify
themselves in the main courtyard fountain. The water splashing from the fountain makes its' own
musical symphony when looking at the grand stairs, and then even further as they appear to climb
into the heavens. Tenants still occupy several of the apartments as they lounge on their balconies
enjoying a frosty refreshment and the gust of Mother Nature's balmy

Marcel Duchamp ( 1887-1968 )

  • 1. Marcel Duchamp ( 1887-1968 ) Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968) was a French artist, known for his contributions to the Dada movement and for his influence on other artists that followed him. He was born in Blainville–sur– Crevon, a small town in northern France where his father served as a notary. His mother was artistically inclined and thus Duchamp became interested in sketching and painting when he was a teenager. At the age of seventeen, he moved to Paris to study art at the Académie Julian. As a young artist, he was influenced by Cubism and Futurism, the two new art movements that were developing at the time. The Cubist artists reduced objects (or people) to basic shapes and tried to show different sides of images at once. The Futurists wanted to find ways to depict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases he also created art by altering posters found on the street or prints of works by other artists. During the period of World War I (1914–1918), Duchamp became associated with a group of Parisian artists known as the Dadaists. Dada was an art movement that was characterized by a "spirit of anarchic nihilism." The Dadaists were reacting to the madness of the European culture that had found itself engaged in a bloody, devastating war. In the words of Tomkins, "dada's organized insanity was a direct response to the nightmare of unending, meaningless slaughter in the trenches." Another writer, Sarane Alexandrian, describes Dada as "a detonation of anger which showed itself in insults and buffoonery." The Dadaists also attacked the traditional values of art. As claimed by Hans Richter in his book on the Dada movement, these attacks were meant to mock the pretensions of European culture and the traditional obsession of artists, art critics and art lovers with "all that is holy." Dada is often referred to as "anti–art" and the Dada movement is often called an "anti–movement." As noted by Alexandrian, the Dadaists seemed to be interested in rejecting everything that existed in art and culture at the time. In Alexandrian's words, "it was an anti–movement which opposed not only all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

UCO of Miami is a Non–Profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. UCO has a day program for adults where they can participate in recreational activities, go on excursions and also offer adults with disabilities employment skills training. United Community options was established in 1947 and has always aimed to being accessible for people with disabilities. The first thing I notice when I entered the parking lot was that UCO had four accessible parking spots and out of those four spots two are van accessible. They also have accessible drop off areas and accessible routes to get to the entrance. The front door which is 64 inches wide is automatic and stays open until the person passes through. The front door leads to the lobby which is very wide and has enough space for people that use wheel chairs to enter without obstruction getting in the way. The whole building is leveled and doesn't require ramps for the front entrance. Once past the front lobby there are a sequence of hallways you can take in order to get where you want to. Most of the hall ways measure from 59 inches to 84 inches wide and are leveled. Most objects like fire extinguishers or drinking fountains or signs protrude no more then four inches from the wall. • 5. The Space Of Millennium Park The space of Millennium Park is defined by rows of trees which outline the perimeter of the park on all four sides. The trees on the outline of the park create a buffer between the park and the busy city streets. Internally, the trees within the park serve as a dividing barrier for smaller spaces/attractions, allowing different spaces to communicate different functions and ideas. A majority of space within Millennium Park all rise above the human scale. The surrounding buildings and skyscrapers serve as a reminder of how little we are compared to the vast size of the city. Interesting, although humans are small relatively compared to the park. The surroundings reflect what we are capable of and the scale of what we can achieve. Territory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boundaries within the garden are created through the trees and hedged on the outer perimeter. Inside the park, the limestone curbs/walls define the spaces that the plants occupy. They also serve as barriers in order to prevent visitors from going directly into the garden. Spaces like the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the Great Lawn individually create space through division of territory. The Great Lawn is defined by a large area of cut grass. The enormous space welcomes onlookers from every direction of the park. It's flat and soft surface allows visitors to freely dictate how they want to use the space, ranging from relaxing to engage in physical activities. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion defines itself separately from the Great Lawn by using cement as a surface instead of grass. Individuals that occupy this space are welcomed by a fixed seating area, unlike the lawn where people can freely occupy a space. Collectively, the two spaces are hard to miss, because they tower over a majority of trees and sculpture in the park. Relative to the human scale, the metal frames and interlocking steel pipes that stretch across the Great Lawn mimic the ambiance of an indoor concert hall. • 7. Analysis Of The Film 'The Fountain' "The Fountain" by Darren Aronofsky is a film that depicts Tommy's Denial towards death. This film is the journey of one man in his past, present, and future. In the film, Tommy has a very stubborn mindset; he believes that death is a disease and that there is a cure for every disease. On the other hand, Izzi, Tommy's wife is very accepting towards the thought of death and her intentions are to prove to Tommy that death is not as bad as it may seem. As the film progresses, Tommy's acceptance towards death begins to gradually increase. Thomas is seen in the past where the guardian of the tree stabs him as he mentions " death is the road to awe" The film the continues with Tommy in the future ingesting a piece of the tree of life. Izzi then is seen asking Tommy to go with her but Tommy chooses his job over Izzi. During this time Tommy's ring appears to go missing. In the process of Donovan's surgery Tommy uses a piece of the tree of life in attempt of curing Donovan. In the past Isabel gives Thomas the ring as a promise to her if Thomas finds the tree of life to save Spain. Izzi then shows Tommy a nebula wrapped around a dying star. Mayans call it Shibalba, it represents their underworld. Izzi finds it fascinating that mayans choose a dying star as their underworld, once the nebula explodes it will create stars. This rises the statement of "death is an act of creation. At this time Izzi begins to tell Tommy about the story of the first father and how he sacrificed himself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay On Villa Lante INTRODUCTION Located in central Italy, in Viterbo, Villa Lante is a true example of a Renaissance Italian garden. It is considered to be one of the finest illustration of a mannerist garden design since its elements style are exaggerated in their art. HISTORY The construction of the site started in 1566 by two bishop men who followed each other; the first one was Gian Francesco Gambarra, and the second was Alessandro Montalto. The combination of Gambarra, a mature man, and Montalto, an adolescent, would produce one of the strangest Italian villa and park. This garden was at first a preserved hunting park, but after realizing the Cardinal's dream, it got converted into magnificent landscaped grounds that we find today. This work was mainly attributed to one of the great architects of the 16th century, Giacomo Barozzi, known as ''Il Vignola''. Thomas Chiruchi was also a main part of the site's magnificent creation since he was the hydraulic engineer that adjusted all the waterworks to perfection. In fact, as we'll see later on, water is the main feature that will bring together all the components of the garden in a poetic harmony. MEANING OF THE GARDEN ... They are covered by a roughened texture to harmonize with the natural rough rock of the Fountain. Plus, water conduits set in their eaves project jets of water to complete a visual ensemble known as the 'theatre of the waters'. These spouts may sprinkle visitor by surprise. The Fountain of the Flood forms a visual conclusion to the whole. In a more general sense, it provides an underlying theme that is developed throughout the entire garden. The leitmotiv here is Water, coming out in its natural state from a rocky slope. Symbolically speaking, all fountains depend on water for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. What Is The Appeal Of Roman Holiday Careening through Rome on a Vespa, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck are famous for their outstanding contributions to the classic film, Roman Holiday, but too often a third key player, the eternal city itself, whose role adds meaningful allegories and timeless appeal, is overlooked as merely a backdrop. The movie opens with a grand introduction to the life of young Princess Ann, who is traveling on a goodwill tour through Europe. Later, the film pans up from the crowded winding streets to a struggling low–end news writer, Joe Bradley gambling in a musty apartment. That night, the princess, overwhelmed by her tightly regimented and boring elitist life, escapes from the palace in Rome where she is staying, only to collapse exhausted on a back street bench. When, by total coincidence, Bradley stumbles upon her and obligingly tries to help, she lies about her identity in hopes of experiencing normal life. Bradley, realizing the truth, aims to obtain the scoop of a lifetime and solve his money problems forever. The following day, he takes her on a grand tour of Rome in what becomes a laughable journey as they fall in love, despite the limitations of social hierarchy. Through its setting in the eternal city, the spectacular love story takes on deeper meanings and appeal. In innumerable ways, through its intransience and urban planning, Rome perfectly accentuates the duo's challenges in this timeless love story. In many ways, Rome's grandeur was a significant foundation for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Love Of Water : My Love For Water Most likely my obsession with oceans was born in the sensory playground of my mother's womb. The yearning to float weightlessly on warm, soothing waves is one of my earliest emotional connections. This attraction for water has been the basis for the majority of my life choices. Where I choose to live, work, play and travel are predicated on being on, in or near an ocean or a beach. Nevertheless a lake, river, pool or even a Jacuzzi will suffice as alternatives. This love for water deepened as our family sojourned from one Naval base to another. Before my eighteenth birthday, I had dipped my toes in the waves at least eleven beaches, from the island of Saipan to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This mobile childhood sparked a lifelong passion to travel the world, seeking the natural beauty of God's magnificent creation. Water covers nearly three–quarters of the earth, therefore the opportunities to nourish my soul are more than abundant. Listening to the symphony of waves, discovering seashells, popping kelp bulbs and making footprints in the damp sand still evoke many of my fondest memories. My inner child playfully emerges to frolic whenever my bare feet find a sandy shore. Sunbathing on a beach towel has never appealed to me. Descriptive Essay On The Castle The next morning, after a delicious breakfast of croissants, coffee and fresh fruit in the beautiful garden (Pietro's pride and joy), Mariana and Murat packed a picnic basket of bread, tomatoes, nectarines and pecorino cheese, and climbed back in their car. 'So,' explained Mariana as they set off. 'This castle isn't a major tourist site, but my parents and I used to visit this castle a lot when I was little, just because it's so beautiful. It's actually a private home, but they still let people look around. The castle itself dates back to 802, and its "guests and conquerors" include Federico Barbarossa, Federico II, Pius VII and Fernando de' Medici, not to mention Charlemagne, King of the Franks !' And, Mariana – I think I've met that woman.' Tears rose to Mariana's eyes, which shone like two stars as she stared at him. Already sitting, Murat swivelled round so that he was kneeling on one knee. 'Mariana,' he continued, his heart racing. 'I love you. I've loved you since the moment I first saw you sitting in the library, the most beautiful woman that I'd ever seen. The better I get to know you, the more I love you. I can't think of anything that would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you. I spoke to your father last night and asked for his permission to propose to you, which he as happy to give me, along with is blessing. • 17. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Fountain ' Tommy in the Fountain is a character faced with the dilemma of mortality in the physical realm and can not accept the grim, inevitable death that faces all of humankind. In the world of The fountain, there are three planes of existence which correlate to the past, present, and future/consciousness. Darren Aronofsky intertwines these three times periods creating a nonlinear perspective of time, but it is in line with the general plot of the movie. Aronofsky wants the viewer to link the time periods together where the past is the story depicted in the book, and the future can be seen as his consciousness. A character that stays apparent in these settings is Izzi. Izzi guides the main character to accept the grim fate of death and to reach a state of knowledge which will potentially enlighten him. She helps Tommy understand the meaning of death by bringing the immediacy and expectancy, and forcing Tommy to finish it, referring to the book and his understanding of death. Completing the book results in the journey that Tommy takes to enlightenment, the acceptance. The relationship between these characters really create the whole importance of realizing death is ultimately an act of creation. Present day Tommy is faced with a cancer stricken Izzi where she is enlightened during her death and "immortalized". Izzi is also depicted as the tree of life in Tommy's consciousness and Queen Elizabeth of Spain. The Tree of Life is a symbol of immortality, with Izzi dying in the ... • 19. Descriptive Vacation "Forever" I will forever be tied there. Everything about it – the food, the air, the smell, the sights – was wonderful! It all started when my great grandpa Forst died and left my mom money. He loved to travel, so my mom knew that we should use the money for travel. A couple of years later my parents said, "We're going to Italy." "Really?!" I exclaimed. "You better believe it, or you're not going!" " I believe it, I believe it!!!!" As soon as I stepped into the airport, I knew it was going to be an adventure I would never forget. We took a plane from Norfolk to Atlanta, and then to Italy. As we got on the plane to Italy, I realized how exciting this was going to be. My heart was pounding as I looked at my ticket and saw that we were all in first class. Even the flight was a new experience. We were offered gourmet food for dinner – steak, soup, salad, and dessert. Then for breakfast I had french toast.Yum! The seats reclined into beds, they had sheets, blankets, and big fluffy pillows. I couldn't sleep. For most of the 9 hour flight, I looked out the window, talked and watched TV. We arrived in florence at 11:00 a.m. even though it felt like night. We checked in and had our first meal in Italy. I had a little bowl of heaven, pasta with meat sauce! My sister had a sort of flatbread sandwich called a panini, but our vacation was not just relaxing. We got to work soon. Heart pounding, shallow breath, darkness, and then finally... the sun broke through like a trophy waiting to be given. We climbed the Duomo right after we climbed the bell tower. Imagine climbing a 20 story skyscraper – that's what we did. But we didn't do just that. After Florence, we went to San Gimignano (which my dad and I call Saint Jimmy Johns) and took a cooking class. We got to eat the delicious food we made! We devoured steak and peppercorn stew, salad and Tiramisu, which is like an ice cream that's not ice cream. We also visited a cheese and wine factory. My mom loved the wine part, and I just thought it was a bunch of old barrels in a cold room. In the cheese factory, we had to wear shoe covers. The guide told us how they made the cheese and showed us some samples. One cheese looked like bread and was made of a bunch of other cheese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Abstract . In This Rhetorical Analysis, The Value Of... Abstract In this rhetorical analysis, the value of uniqueness and the use of flavors are expressed in an ad by Dr. Pepper, a well–known and popular company. These values are found within the appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos. It also states the history of how this soft drink was created, the creator, and the year it was created. Logos is expressed when the brand states that it contains 23 flavors and also includes an image of a bottle with the number 23 as well with other phrases. Pathos is used in the ad when the company states that no other drink has these flavors, which means the drink is unique, targeting the audience and persuading them to be special and different. It connects with the audience by showing or interpreting something the audience relates to or shows interest in. Lastly, ethos is to what extent the audience trusts an author by relying on their word and reputation. The author's credentials support what they are trying to convey or the message they are trying to send to the audience about an ad or announcement. Historical Context Created, manufactured, and sold as a unique flavor, Dr. Pepper is the oldest in soft drinks in American history. Charles Alderton, the creator of Dr. Pepper, invented his own beverage flavor in the small city of Waco, Texas in the year of 1885. His greatest invention came from the idea of the smell of the different kind of fruit syrups, and the smell of the drug store he worked in. After giving a sample test of his new drink to the owner of the drug store, and him liking the taste of it, Alderton gave his invention a greater opportunity to expand by offering it at the soda fountain. According to Dr. Pepper Museum (2016) His creation of this soft drink was exceptional, like no other drink, making other soda fountain operators ask for it too. It came to the point where there was high demand of the product that Alderton and Morrison could not produce enough for others to purchase. The product was so good that it started to be recognized. • 23. City Of Fountains : Creativity And Inspiration City of Fountains Creativity and Inspiration Many people living in Kansas City do not appreciate one of the things their home is known for, fountains. A member of our group originally thought of the nickname "City of Fountains", so we took that idea and expanded it. Our exhibit would not only educate our community about a subject they never would have thought of, but would implement a curiosity about the history of this city for young minds to learn as well. We also thought that the exhibit should look aesthetically pleasing due to the fact that it would be outside and seen by hundreds of people each day. Therefore, fountains would be a perfect fit since they are already used for decoration. Visitors would be able to interact and create fountains of their own design, maybe even inspiring future engineers in the field. In the end, we concluded this would be the most educational and exciting exhibit. One of our many goals we hope to achieve with this presentation is to show the STEM ideas. These are science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Science: Visitors will explore the science behind fountains, including descriptions of water pressure and how things of the liking work. Visitors will also be able to control and experiment with water pressure. Technology: There will be an attraction placed in the center where visitors will be welcome to use the tablets provided to use an app made specifically for the exhibit to design fountains, learn facts, and take quizzes ... The photograph I chose to analyze is one that struck me hard due to the harsh reality of our country 's past. This popular photograph often seen in textbooks is a result of segregation in American history. Captivating is one word I would use to describe the photo of a colored man drinking from a water fountain. The photograph is in black and white and helps magnify the importance this photo has today. We can look at this photograph from our past and for many years to come, try to answer the many questions of why segregation existed. The gross injustice in treating others of different races poorly will forever haunt American history and leave white Americans feeling humiliated. This time in our history is incredibly important to understand. For a great amount of our nation's history, our people have not lived as equals. It was a foundation in our creation that enslavement and a hierarchy would be created. Because of our ancestors, "white" was deemed as the supreme race and all other races would be subordinate. It started with the enslavement and removal of the Native Americans who lived in this country long before the English, French and Spanish arrived. Then, following the example set forth by the Spanish in Latin America, the English began importing African slaves. The goal in this being for them to do the manual labor that was so important for the development of the United States. However, with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On February 15th, 2014, I took a trip to the drinking fountain at the University of California, San Diego that was assigned by Professor B for my second writing assignment. The drinking fountain is made out of granite that has been polished. It is situated on a cement pathway across from Yogurt World and the iconic Triton statue, which is next to the Price Center. The drinking fountain is in front of the Student Services Center building and next to the fountain, close to several outdoor seats and tables. As I gaze on the drinking fountain, I suddenly notice that some other viewers at the site could not see the push button on the side of the drinking fountain from their viewing angles to the fountain and therefore falsely mislead into the assumption that the drinking fountain for merely décor rather than a functional fountain. This realization strikes a chord in me as I realize that different perspectives on the drinking fountain and the site form a network of power and relationships that can shape meanings and create differences. It is clear that the meanings of the drinking fountain are "produced through the complex negotiations that make up social process and practices through which we produce and interpret images." Proposal : The Rsd Pen Proposal: The RSD Pen will be produced in order to give the opportunity for students to utilize their textbooks to their maximum potential, while still being able to resell it for its optimal value. The ink would last for about three months and after that time period the ink would disappear. Introduction (Why is this product needed in the market?) With the rising costs of tuition, it is making it more difficult for students to afford their education. The market for college textbooks have not really been regulated, which allows these companies to continuously increase the amount students pay for them. Textbooks have been increasing in prices for the last few decades as "textbook producers are able to enjoy super–profits" (Farrell, "College Textbooks Are a Racket"). Many core classes require specific textbooks, and due to this need many students are obligated to purchase them in order to do well in the course. (Bidwell, "Report: High Textbook Prices"). Since this is the case in most colleges, they make the prices extremely high so they would obtain a large profit margin off them. Although there are cheaper alternatives available such as electronic books, students still feel more inclined to purchase the paper copy, as many of them prefer having the physical copy in front of them. This is where the invisible pen comes in, as it is more convenient to actually take notes on the book instead of writing it on another piece of paper or post it. This is a great alternative for ... • 35. Bill Fontan An Internationally Reputable Composer And... Bill Fontana is an internationally reputable composer and pioneering American sound sculptor born April 25th 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. Since the mid to late 70's Fontana has used sound as a sculptural medium, able to interact and transform our perceptions of visual and architectural spaces. Fontana is constantly engaged with the idea that at any moment there will be something musical to hear in the coherent sound patterns around him. His sound sculptures use the human or natural environment surrounding as a living source of musical information, often creating multiple networks of live listening points that relay real time acoustics to a common listening place or sculptural site. All of Fontana's works produced over the years experiment with process of listening, recording, relocating and representing found sound patterns. Through discussion of his works and the process undertaken in his listening for different found sound, the technologies used in recording and relaying of these sounds to site, and the sites themselves through his works can be seen to complicate the idea of 'medium' within his practice. Links from Fontana's background can be seen to have influence upon the development of his practice. • 37. Summary Of The PlayDoubt : A Parable? In the play "Doubt: A Parable" by John Patrick Shanley, Sister Aloysius is a headstrong principal at a Catholic school in New York in the 1960's. She is a person who speaks her mind, and she will take whatever means to ensure that she gets her way and keeps her school running in a manner she deems fit. It seems as if Sister Aloysius is almost afraid of change and new ideas, and she will try her hardest to keep progress from pushing old ideas that she firmly believes in aside. While Sister Aloysius sets strict guidelines for her school, in secret she has habits that could be said are against the guidelines of what is seen as appropriate behavior for nuns, such as listening to the news on her transistor radio. This radio is a connection to her past life as a wife to a man in the military, as she used to listen to it for news of the war. It also shows that she is a habitual and sentimental person. Sister Aloysius' more public habits, however, such as dressing conservatively, using her fountain pen, and encouraging others to engage in more traditional lessons and hobbies, back up her outward appearance that she works hard to keep on display as a distinguished principal. Sister James, another character in the play "Doubt" is a character who contrasts with Sister Aloysius in many ways. From a little hinted symbolism we can connect that the fly itself represents the grief that the boss is going through, while the inkwell and life are two of the same, and that the ink blots are the boss' attempts at trying to fight the grief that has overcome his life due to the tragic event that transpired. When the narrator first talks about the fly, it is at the moment that the boss is looking at the photograph of his son and talking about how he passed away six years earlier. The fly is said to have "fallen into his broad ink– pot, and was trying feebly but desperately to clamber out again." The fly is seen as trying to get out of the pot. Very feebly, the boss helps the fly out of the pot with his pen. The fly in this story comes to represent the boss that the grief is going through because no matter how hard the fly tries to get out of the pot by itself, it could not without a little bit of help. Unlike Woodifield, who got over the death of his son, unlike Macey, who was not close to the son, the boss could not get over the death of his son. In addition, we are told that the boss has been ... What I would really like to do is chain you to my body, then sing for days, days & days." –Hafez The morning was bright and clear. In other words, a perfect day to return home. Dylan felt awful slipping out of Salim's cabin. He was working on his papers–Dylan didn't know what exactly, but he was busy writing lists, referring to others, and generally working. There were the usual thirty or so men on the deck looking to their individual jobs, whether it was seeing to the repair of fishing nets, scrubbing the deck, or winding rope. Dylan stood watching them for some time, each man moving about industriously under the watchful eye of the captain's first–mate, Ibrahim. Dylan made his way back to the stern of the ship. He stood looking out at the churning gray–green ocean below. It did not look enticing. In fact, it looked damned cold, but it was his only way home. Pausing for only a moment to watch the sailors once more, he wondered if he was going to miss them–this ship, this life. No. He would miss Salim, but that was all. He so desperately wanted to get home. He took a deep breath, and in one leap before he could change his mind, threw himself overboard. He hit the water with a huge splash. • 67. Essay on Termite Lab Report Termite Lab Report The effect of ink on termite behavior Abstract Termites produce special chemicals within their bodies called pheromones. Because termites are usually found inside dark areas, pheromones help them communicate in these places. Past studies have suggested that ink inside ballpoint pens contains pheromones, causing termites to follow any trail created by the ink. If a pathway is drawn with an ink pen, then a termite will be attracted to the path and trace it due to the pheromones. To test the behavior of termites in relation with the presence of ink, we outlined two shapes with two different writing utensils and timed how long out of a sixty second time period that the termite spent on each path. The results showed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our null hypothesis is that if a pathway is drawn with anything other than ink, the termite will not be attracted to it and will not follow the path drawn. Methods Two circles were drawn directly across from each other on plain white paper. One was drawn with a black Sharpie marker, and the other was drawn with a black ballpoint pen. Three separate termites were dropped directly in the middle of the two circles, and their reactions were recorded for sixty seconds. This was repeated once for each termite. Results The average time calculated for time spent on the pen outline was 26.9 seconds. The average time spent on the Sharpie marker outline was 2.4 seconds. The p–value was calculated to be 0.000309 for the pen and 0.000214 for the Sharpie. The standard deviation for the pen was found to be 25.66 and 3.97 for the Sharpie. Figure 1. Average Time Spent on Each Writing Utensil per 60 Seconds. Error bars represent one standard deviation above and below the mean. People cannot have everything in life, and achieving both peace, love and harmony is rarely obtainable. In the text, Parker 51, love came alongside war, and the harmony was ruined by peace. • 78. Better Off Friends Character Analysis Imagine moving from Los Angeles, California to a small town in Wisconsin and not knowing anyone at the new school. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept them in the new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg's Better off Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the person that befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south, many people stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in Los Angeles where he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at school did not really want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such good friends in a short amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common, even though they were from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so when they hung out just the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not. This is the second stereotype addressed in the book; a boy and a girl that spend lots of time together do not have to be a boyfriend and a girlfriend. Throughout middle school and high school, they were constantly asked if they were dating, when they were not. Therefore, in Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg, Eulberg addresses stereotypes about where people come from and people of the opposite gender being just friends. First ...
