American Christianity Democratized
How was American Christianity democratized during this period, and how else was the United
States democratized? The Second Great Awakening commenced with a Protestant revival movement
during the early beginning around 1790, the movement gained momentum through 1820s. The later
emergence of the Transcendentalists movement emerged, rooted by their religious philosophy
extended from more than a protestant movement but a social and political one, linked far back in
American history .Religious movements anticipated the coming of Christ and the need to change
moral values. Printing inked how ordinary Americans distrusted leaders and defend the right to
shape their own faith and submit to leaders of their own choosing (Hatch).Printing was the primary
driver of a chain of events that would lead to Christian democratization ,and the increasing growth
of Methodist , Baptist and later transcendentalist movement between Americans . The separation of
church and politics stirred many issues of authority, organization and leadership, Americans had
sentimental argued that their spiritual beliefs should not be morally tied into their political views
using pamphlets, tracts, booklets, journals and newspapers .The early democratization of christianity
changed three aspects of religion; First, it denied the class structure that set clergy as exceptional
,movements lead by men like Wesley and Asbury, empowered ordinary people by understand their
spiritual state rather than subjection to

Social Media As A Form Of Communication
Social media can be a form of communication. Social media refers to the means of interactions
among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual
communities and networks. Social media is about conversations, community, connecting with the
audience and building relationships. It is not just a broadcast channel or a sales and marketing tool.
There blogs, blogs are platforms for casual dialogue and discussions on a specific topic or opinion.
There is also Facebook, Facebook is The world's largest social network, with more than 1.55 billion
monthly active users. Users create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange
messages, including status updates. There is also Twitter, Twitter is a social networking/micro–
blogging platform that allows groups and individuals to stay connected through the exchange of
short status messages. Finally there is also Instagram, Instagram is a free photo and video sharing
app that allows users to apply digital filters, frames and special effects to their photos and then share
them on a variety of social networking sites. There are many more social media apps but these are
like the main ones.
Back to The evolution of communication. There were these things called pictograms. A pictogram is
a symbol representing a concept, object, activity, place or event by illustration. Pictography is a
form of proto–writing whereby ideas are transmitted through drawing. Pictograms were used by

Victorian Internet Chapter 1 Summary
The Victorian Internet tells of telegraph's development and creation. Also, it talks of its remarkable
impact, oddballs, and the visionaries together with the eccentrics who pioneered the telegram
development. According to the book, by the year 1865, the telegraph cables started to span into
different oceans to continents rapidly and played an essential role of revolutionizing on ways
countries dealt with each other (Standage 15). Due to the creation of telegram, the book provides
that some impacts were realized including the creation of businesses and more job opportunities.
Additionally, based on Chapter 1 reading, it sparked the development of criminal activities and also
gave rise to more business practices, promoted to development of new forms of crime (Standage
145). The Victorian Internet is a book written by Tom Standage, ... Show more content on

The main interesting point in the book is when the author focuses more on the culture change that
was realized in operators, governments, businesses, and newspapers as a result of telegram
invention (Standage 137). It is from this chapter that the book readers can easily and better
understand the uniqueness that was associated with telegraph technology in transforming society,
accelerating the world together with annihilating distances. Standage portrays an inner description
of coding books that were used by brokers and traders, as well as the establishment of new and
effective agencies. It is from telegram development that individuals like the Romans decided to
blossomed over cables and wires, others decided to come up with secret codes over there devices
with issues related to cybersecurity also being realized. The main benefit that telegram is considered
to have brought about is excellent improvements in communication especially from the significant
developments that were recognized in the field of the printing press (Standage

The Ongoing Transmit Short Story
The Ongoing Transmit It all started on a Friday afternoon in Dolgeville New York. Dave was with a
group of friends. Dave was a young man with short blond hair, and pale white skin. He was at
Dolgeville High School talking with his friends Holly, Brooke, Sarah, and Kevin. They Were talking
about what they heard on the news, there is an old house just outside of Dolgeville supposedly had a
ghost that had been trapped in the basement. They said that the ghost has been down in the basement
for over 150 years, and the ghost has been sending S.O.S. on a ham radio. They were planning to go
to the house and see if there really was a ghost.
After School all of them piled in Dave's Dodge Aspen RT station wagon, and headed to the house.

coming from the other side of the door. Dave put they key in the lock and looked back at Holly
wondering if he should open the door. He started to turn they key when the glowing and the noises
stopped. He turned the key the rest of the way then started to open the door. He shined the light in
the little room and seen an old ham radio. He opened the door the rest of the way and then he seen
something he had never seen before. There was a ghost sitting in the chair next to the radio with a
Morse code button in his hand. Dave dropped the flashlight and ran up the stairs to the car with
everyone else following behind. They jumped in the car and drove back home and never went back
to the house. Later that year people started saying that the S.O.S. signal stopped transmitting. A few
months later a married couple bought the house and fixed it up. They never said anything about a
ghost living there. They found the old ham radio in the basement and fixed it. The husband decided
to keep the radio for himself and learn to use it. From that day on no one had ever heard the signal

Colin Dexter's Inspector Morse: Characteristics Of The...
Gentleman traits of the English detective like Trent's passion for art and journalism (EC Bentley's
Philip Trent) , Poirot's interest in clothes and food (Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot) , Wimsey's
taste for the finer things in life (Dorothy Sayers' Peter Wimsey) – all imply a commitment to the
civilised living of an English fop and to security beyond the dark sphere of crime. These are
characteristics emitted by the Detective of the Golden Age. Morse's love for crossword puzzles and
pedantry about grammar leads him to the first major clue in the story in the form of an anonymous,
error–filled typewritten letter. Morse's character traits, which bring out the English gentleman in him

Morse is no Holmes or Poirot but he reflects certain traits of the Great Detective who indulged in
detection entirely in his leisure time. For Morse, it is not leisure. Dexter employs the leisured
detection of Golden Age in a post Second World War era when there is an inherent class
consciousness and there is no room for the English gentleman to remain so. Dexter has written the
novel at a time when the impact of the Second World War has stripped away the image of the
affluent English society and the example of British endurance, unity, family and personal
relationships, and sees a rise in crime and increasing incompetence of official authorities. By
introducing a character like Morse, Dexter looks back to the assurance that Golden Age amateur
detectives gave. In any case, Dexter and his contemporary detective fiction writers exploit the
popularity of detective fiction by adhering to the classical formula in a post–Golden Age era. This
helps in understanding the contemporaneity of the present through a glimpse of past methods. The
portrayals of different aspects of British communities reflect an increasing social awareness and
self–consciousness of how society re–imagines itself through the lens of the

How Has The Telegraph Changed Society
Newer technologies, such as the telephone and the Internet, are based on the concept of the
telegraph. Like the telegraph, they use electricity to transmit information from one location to
another. Each new communicating technology has had an impact on society, greater than the one
before. The telegraph changed society indirectly, by transforming the workings of government and
industry. The Telegraph and Morse Code invention was also used to make historic announcements.
One way that it was first used in this way was to bring the news of the death of Prince Albert in
1861. A telegram was also sent to the current Queen Elizabeth to let her know about the death of her
father when she was on tour in Kenya. Also, modern newspapers were enabled by

The Impact Of Morse Code And The Telegraph
"What hath God wrought?" This message, the first of its kind to be sent instantly over a long
distance was transmitted back in 1844. While it may seem insignificant, this series of clinks was
what started the era of communication. Morse code is a system created by Samuel F. B. Morse that
uses dits and dahs sent over an electromagnetic box to relate messages. Throughout its growth, it
has aided in many wars and led to new inventions like the radio and telephone. While it's not used
today, it's important to know its historical impact. Imperative in paving the way for a new era of
communication and the advancement of long distance communication, Morse code and the
telegraph also aided in the Industrial Revolution.

The finalized version of Morse code was created in 1873 with the help of Alfred Vail.
1. Three years later, they patented the code system "Telegraph signals."
III. Along with the creation of Morse code, the telegraph also began to develop.
A. The first telegraph was built in 1843 after the patent was approved by the United States
Congress.
1. From Washington to Baltimore, the line stretched over 40 miles and cost 30,000 dollars to
construct.
B. Later Samuel Morse and a few associates formed the Magnetic Telegraph company after the US
government declined the purchase of the patent.
1. In the telegraph industry, it was very competitive with over 50 other competing companies.
C. Due to the competition, in 1851, the New York and Mississippi Valley Telegraph
company(NYMVTC) was formed.
1. Their first was partnering with Cyrus Field to create the first transatlantic cable.
2. While the line was being built, Samuel Morse was working as the team's electrician.
D. Five years later, the NYMVTC merged with the Western Union Telegraph company after they
began work on a transcontinental telegraph line.

Up The Nation: How Samuel Morse Changed The World
Samuel Morse Wires Up the Nation Samuel Finley Breese Morse was a keen inventor and
imaginative artist. He painted many great paintings and also invented a great invention. Even though
he was not the best student in his early years, he grew up to be a keen, God loving man. His
discoveries and art not only changed America, but it also changed the entire world. Samuel Morse's
contraption enabled Americans to communicate with each other much more conveniently. He saw
how difficult it was to communicate with other signals such as flame beacons, flashlights,
semaphore signals, and writing letters. Because of that, Morse invented an apparatus that no one
else conceived. The life of Samuel Morse was extremely valuable and was influential to the whole
world. Samuel Morse was rather apathetic about his life during his early years, and his family cared
much about him. As a young child, Morse was born into his family on April 27, 1791, in Charleston,
Massachusetts. His father was named Jedidiah Morse, and his mother was named Elizabeth Ann
Finley Breese. He had a brother named Sidney Edwards Morse, and he had two sisters named Sarah
K. Morse and Mary K. Morse. He studied at Phillips Academy often wasting time drawing. He went
to Yale College for his later years and was determined to be a better student. Even though his

A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman
So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something like
science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong answers,
those with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are. According to
the dictionary, a genre is "a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content,
technique, or the like" (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre
really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their purposes we must first
take a step back and look at some other fundamental concepts. A popular model designed by Bruce
W. Tuckman suggests that all groups experience five phases: forming, storming, norming,
performing, and adjourning (Gulati 439–440). At our cores, humans seek to be accepted and
acknowledged by others. We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the areas we are
passionate about. This part of human nature is nothing new, it is something programmed deep into
our genes for millennia. It happens before our eyes every day; sports fans meet in stadiums, video
game fans meet at conventions, artists meet at exhibitions, and so on. People of similar interest
meet, one way or another, and are drawn together by their passion. Some groups remain small friend
circles, while others may grow vastly to be composed of millions of members. These vast
communities, known as discourse communities,

Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph
machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to the
loss of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York University, that
helped improved Morse's design that used superior batteries and electromagnets that enabled it to
transfer currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse had perfected his
telegraph; it was able to send signals over great distances. Although his Journey wasn't over, he now
had to send his work to Washington where he awaited to be approved by Congress. He attended
both sessions of Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day
of the session, which was March 3, 1843, he "spent the whole day and part of the evening in the
Senate chamber, anxiously watching the progress of the passing of the various bills" (Morse) to
watch the bill get passed, he was awarded $30,000 to set up the very first telegraph machine from
Washington to Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was made from household instruments that
consisted of "an old picture or canvas frame fastened to a table; the wheels of an old wooden clock
[...] and a short circuit of a wire, embracing the helices of the electro–magnet connected with the
positive and negative poles of the battery and terminating the mercury–cups" (Morse). His
"apparatus" was so crude

Telecommunication Is The Real Face Of The Advances Of...
Telecommunications
Telecommunication is the real face of the advances in Information Technology (IT). In fact, the
overwhelming advances that humankind has seen in the last decades in IT (internet, telephone,
television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication) are effects of the advance of
Telecommunications (normally the word is used in plural because it encompasses different types of
means of transmission). From the electrical telegraph of Samuel Morse (1837) to the transmission of
voice and image over the Internet (Skype, Hangout etc.), the Telecommunications has developed too
much and affected the world and the human being behavior.
Telecommunications means the transmission of information between two stations. Basically, a
transmitter, a receiver and an electrical mean – channel – are enough to complete a
telecommunication process. The channel can be a cable, electromagnetic waves or fiber optics. This
system is interconnected in a very large network on which all communications in the world is done.
A simple fixed telephone call, a cellphone call, a satellite transmission, an e–mail, a download of a
music, everything is possible because of this network.
Even though the main goal of this network is the communication, it can go beyond this. Actually,
this large system supports the international trade, the online education, the exchanging of messages
(e–mail, short message), the Internet, the bank transactions and many other services. Besides, a new

Task 1: Data Communication
Assessment Task 1:
Data communication is when data is exchanged between a sender and a receiver. Data
communication is made up of:
A receiver
A Sender
A Message
The first type of data communication to be invented was the telegraph. This was invented by Samuel
Morse in the 1830's. It was mainly used for longer communication. It used dots and dashes to
represent letters of the alphabet. One of the main uses in which this type of communication was
during World War 1 to communicate between long distance troops to co ordinate attacks.
This invention of the telegraph proved how useful long distance communication was in society. This
led to more interest in data communication to occur which sparked the invention of the telephone.

Synchronous communication requires both the sender and the receiver to have their clocks
synchronized (Set to the same time).
Some examples of synchronous communication are telephone and instant messaging through the
internet such as facebook and skype. These are included as instant communication because when the
sender sends the message the receiver get the message within a second of it being sent. This allows
for faster communication due to one person not needing to wait an hour or a day for a reply. When
you call someone through the phone you almost instantly get a reply. If the connection between the
receiver and sender is weak the could be a little bit of delay. This can also be due to weather
interruptions which could disrupt the signal.
Video calls through the internet such as skype allows for instant communication between multiple
people at the same time allowing for a bigger group discussion and at the same time keeping the
team on the same page. This saves time and money due to removing the need to repeat instructions

Technology And Technology : The Importance Of Technology
Mankind's capability to advance as a species can be attributed to one major practice, and that is the
constant increase in use and development of technology that enhances us or our surroundings. Ever
since the era of cavemen we have been using technology to help make our lives easier or, at least,
more enjoyable. Through these accomplishments, humans have transformed from being just another
animal merely existing to a conscious entity that is always striving to achieve more on an individual
or collective setting. Without technology the fundamental necessities of a functioning society such
as; communication, education, employment, and health care would be unavailable, leaving us
vulnerable to the harsh realities of a world that doesn't take pity on the unknowing. To better
understand and appreciate the importance of technology that we have today I think it's important to
look back at where it all began. The first form of technology came approximately 72,000 years ago
in the shape of primitive tools such as rocks for mashing foraged foods and sharp sticks for hunting
wildlife. Robert Buchanan explains the difference in technology used by humans compared to
animals: Essentially, techniques are methods of creating new tools and products of tools, and the
capacity for constructing such artifacts is a determining characteristic of humanlike species. Other
species make artifacts: bees build elaborate hives to deposit their honey, birds make nests, and
beavers build dams. But

discovery the telegraph, a machine transmitted messages to and from different places. Once the
telegraph became popular, the telegraph was used for fast communication . There were two men
majorly involved in the creation of the telegraph. The man that created the telegraph created morse

from the telegraph has been used throughout history. The telegraph ideas are used in modern day
times to create new ways of communication connecting the corners of the nation. The phenomenon

First Amendment In Schools
As the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech to all Americans, there needs to be some
sort of limit on when students go overboard. There are many different types of speech in which it
can cause disruptions in the classroom when teachers and students state their own opinions that
don't always go with what the others agree with. Things such as the place of where they speak these
things are affective to whether their claims are legal or illegal on any school campus. When students
cause a disruption, even across the street from a school supervised event while promoting illegal
drug use like Joseph Frederick did, it needs to be stopped as soon as possible whether it goes against
the freedom of a student's speech or not. In the court case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

it says, "A majority of college students believe universities should restrict which kinds of expression

Another issue that has occurred with college campus freedom of speech is said by Catherine

Civil War Essay
There are many inventions from the Civil War that we have improved upon and that we still use
today. Some of these inventions include hot air balloons, Long–Range Weapons, Warships,
torpedoes, and the Gatling Gun. But three inventions from the Civil War that we still use today are
railroads, telegraphs, and Long– Range Weapons. Today, though all these have been improved upon,
these inventions are still used to help our country grow.
Railroads are a form of transportation which isn't used as much anymore, but in the Civil War, it was
a very important way of transportation. The transcontinental railroad was invented around the Civil
War and was a faster way to transport goods, troops, and people. The Civil War was also the first
war in US history to use railroads because they were important in moving troops and goods faster.
"The Civil War was the first war to use railroads, encouraged by President Lincoln – himself a
former railroad lawyer – who understood how vital they were for moving men and supplies"

Group Description The group is made up of fourteen new nurses, four nurses with one year of
experience, and the group is led by one of the nursing educators at Adventist Health Medical Center
in Hanford. The primary purpose of these meetings is to provide new nurses with ongoing support
during the transition period from student to nurse. Although this is the primary purpose of these
groups, group members use this time to discuss policies and procedures that need to be updated and
or clarified, discuss situations on the units that continue to lead to negative patient outcomes,
discuss most recent evidence based practices for surgical procedures performed at the facility, and to
share facility updates. The nursing educator uses a facilitative leadership style when conducting
these meetings. A person who uses a facilitative leadership style creates a culture where people feel
comfortable contributing ideas and suggestions, listen to multiple point of views (even those that
they do not agree with), emphasize key information, build bridges between people, create an
atmosphere where people can share information, and allow people to come to resolutions to
problems by working together (Brome, 2006). Most issues we are able to find a solution to as a
group, but issues that are out of our control, such as changes to policies, she takes with her to

Smith (2001) compared the influential power of the telegraph and more modern inventions, stating
that "The same phenomena is easily seen in the relatively recent proliferation of computers and
electronic communication technology" (p. 279). By the 1850s, predictions regarding the impact of
the new medium abounded, including statements about how it would make countries further
connected, how it would change politics and business and how it would make newspapers obsolete.
All of the same statements were later made in the 1990s, when people were astonished at the
potential of the Internet. Whatever expectations and predictions people had about the telegraph, they
were right about one thing: the telegraph would be consequential over the course of history. The
introduction of the telegraph had an influence in communications on a large global scale, and altered
both diplomacy and society. To sum up the impact the telegraph had on the financial realm of the
world, "While a British tramp freighter steamed from Calcutta to New York, a broker in London was
arranging by telegram for it to carry an American cargo to Australia. World commodity prices were
also instantaneously conveyed by the same network of communications" (Buckler, et al., 2006). The

of the telegraph. Other legacys such as the one it had during the war is now replaced by radios,
another decendednt of the telegrpah. These are only some of its legacys. It has imcatede me
personally because i couldnt see a world without this instant way of communication. I love my
phone, and i dont know how i would function without it. It has also affected me because we all relay
so much on it. We want news storys, and big events, ect, all instenttaniusly, but back ten it took
days, weeks, or moths to reach the outer most parts of the U.S. it goes for the World as well to hear
of the current news, or other events that jave taken place. There are many technological
advancments that were products of the civil war, and the telegrapgh was onl one of them. It had a
huge impact in its time, revolutioizing lng distance communocation. Its legacy is its decendents the
land line phone and cell phone, as well as it being the first long ditnce communicator. And lastly
how much of an impact it has made personnaly, and how much sociaity would have changed if it had

Compare And Contrast Steamboat And Telegraph
Steamboat and Telegraph
The following presentation encompases two major historical milestones in the development of
american engineering and ingenuity. The first being the development of the steam engine and the
second the invention of the telegraph.
It's the 1800s and industrialization is thriving throughout America. People are moving away from an
agricultural way of life, moving into cities, developing arts and trades and trying to expand their
boundaries of who, where and how they can trade marketable items. In trying to reach more and
more customers at further and further distances the ability to travel further in less time creates a
demand. In this time period most of the trade routes revolved around rivers as this was the easiest
method of transportation and the mighty Mississippi being the largest trade route. However, the
problem with traveling the Mississippi or any riverway at this time is that you are at the mercy of
the wind and currents. At this time you travelled by boat with full sail and could not maneuver
against tides or a poor wind. There was a need to create something that could deal with this
dilemma. More and more inventions and machines are being created. With these inventions it
becomes effortless to complete painstaking tasks. The effect of this is tade becoming more ... Show

In the 1800s information would take weeks if not months to be sent and delivered in order to gain
small to vital bits of information. In those times obtaining or sending information was tedious and

for vital governmental information. Samuel Morse a graduate of Yale University is credited with the
invention of Morse code (a code invented by him and named after him) and the invention of the

Auto Wreck
Auto Wreck by Karl Shapiro is an impressionistic poem that delves into the understanding of
technology and the horrific contentment that society has with automobile wrecks. Written during the
1940's Shapiro has been known for writing about simplistic things yet with grave detail. In Auto
Wreck Shapiro uses similes and metaphors to describe a surreal feeling of an automobile wreck. He
has determined that everyday citizens have become too detached from the everyday violence caused
by automobiles. Shapiro aims to prove that the mechanical monsters that threaten everyday life have
become too mundane in today's society. During the poem, Karl Shapiro uses an abundance of
similes and metaphors to describe the fantasy–like setting of an automobile ... Show more content

He states that every auto wreck can cause a massive amount of danger while being ignored by the
common people around the wreckage. He goes on to describe the wreckage as "Empty husks of
locusts" (Line 20) how they are locust–like in the destruction that they cause. An auto wreck is an
extravagant and almost unreal in the destruction that it causes to the people involved. He describes
the people by saying "We are deranged, walking among the cops." (Line 15) He is showing how the
people are mentally disturbed by the extreme amount of damage that has happened. Shapiro then
goes into detail describing the way the police cover up the horrific violence that has happened. "One
with a bucket douches ponds of blood" (Line 18) this line referees to the police washing away the
heavy ponds of blood in the streets. This seems to be common for the police as they already have an
understanding of how to deal with this extravagant violence. He details the world around him and
how some officers have different jobs when cleaning the car crash up. The officers almost seemed
detached from this violence as they have become used to this violence. It's a horrific thought that
these officers could be so accepting of this dark

History of the Telegraph Essay
The electric telegraph is a now outdated communication system that was used to transmit electric
signals over wires from location to location that translated into a message by people at stations.
The non–electric telegraph was invented by Claude Chappe in 1794. This system was visual and
used a semaphore, an alphabet based on flag language, and depended on a line of sight for
communication. This "optical telegraph" was replaced by the electric telegraph, eventually.
In 1809, a crude telegraph was invented in Bavaria by Samuel Soemmering. He used 35 wires with
gold electrodes in water and at the receiving end 2000 feet the message was read by the amount of
gas caused by electrolysis. In 1828, the first telegraph in the USA. was ... Show more content on

However, it was Samuel Morse that would go down in history for bettering Joseph Henry's
invention. Samuel made sketches of a "magnetized magnet" based on Henry's work. He then went
on to invent a telegraph system that was a practical and commercial success.
Samuel Morse
While he was a professor of arts and design at the New York University in 1835, Samuel Morse
proved that signals could be transmitted by wire. He used impulses of electrical current to deflect an
electromagnet, which moved a marker to produce written codes on a strip of paper – thus the
invention of Morse Code. The following year, the device was modified to emboss the paper with
dots and dashes. Samuel gave a public demonstration in 1838, but it was not until five years later
that the Congress funded $30,000 to construct an experimental telegraph line from Washington to
Baltimore, a distance of 40 miles.
Six years later, members of Congress witnessed the sending and receiving of messages over part of
the telegraph line. Before the line had reached Baltimore, the Whig party held its national
convention there, and on May 1, 1844, nominated Henry Clay. This news was hand–carried to
Annapolis Junction (between Washington and Baltimore) where Samuel's partner, Alfred Vail, wired
it to the Capitol. This was the first news dispatched by electric telegraph.

How Did Samuel Morse Use Mass Communication
With just a few touches of a button the telegraph by Samuel Morse was the first of its era to allow
mass communication, quickly, and long distant. Changing the way the world communicated and
conducting business, the invention of the telegraph became a significant part of American history.
Prior to the invention of the telegraph, people would write letters and rely on messengers to deliver
their letters. Often letters would be sent via boats across the ocean taking days to receive. Samuel
Morse was quoted "I wish that in an instant I could communicate information, but three thousand
miles are not passed over in an instant and we must wait four long weeks before we can hear from
each other." (Streissguth, Thomas). Little did he know that his

The Child Of A Pastor And A Housewife
The child of a pastor and a housewife, Samuel Morse was born on April 27, 1791. He was an
inventor and an artist during the 19th century. His invention of the telegraph, along with the creation
of the famous Morse code used to send messages across a radio wave, would change the history and
use of messaging. These inventions would make a huge impact during certain events like the Civil
War and the tragic sinking of the Titanic. Samuel Finley Breese Morse was born on April 27, 1791
in Charlestown, Massachusetts, to Jeddiah Morse and Elizabeth Ann Finley, "whom they named
after Elizabeth's father and grandfather" (Silverman 4). In all, Samuel's parents had eleven children

But three thousand miles are not passed over an instant.'" (Latham and Polseno 26). This is the time
when Samuel began to think of a way to improve the standard messaging system and started to work
on making a device that would send electricity through wires in order to send a message. In order
for his messaging idea to come to life Samuel would need help and money. As a way to make
money "he accepted an appointment as Professor of Painting and Sculpture at the just–opened
University of the City of New York." (Silverman 124). After getting a real job, and after receiving a
steady income, Samuel could finally focus on his invention of the telegraph. Finally in the fall of
1837, Samuel received help from two men named "Alfred Vail and Leonard D. Gale" (Kerby 30).
After years of hard work and dedication, Samuel and his partners delivered a message containing
the phrase "'What hath God wrought!'" from "a room in the United States Supreme Court
building...The message was received in Baltimore." (38).During this same time, Samuel had also
started coming up with a code which would be used to send messages across the telegraph; this
would later be named after him as Morse code. With the invention of the telegraph, along with the
concept of Morse code, the world would forever change. The first

Samuel Finley Breese Morse was an American painter and an inventor. After becoming a well
known portrait painter, in his middle age he contributed to the invention of a single wire telegraph
system. He was a co–developer of the Morse code and helped to develop a commercial use of
telegraphy.
Samuel Morse was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, being the first child of pastor Jedidiah
Morse who was a geographer and Elisabeth Ann Finley Morse. His father was a great preacher of
the calvinist faith and strongly believed in education within a Federalist framework, alongside the
instillation of Calvinist virtues, morals, and prayers for his first son. After attending Phillips

invention. In 1838 Morse formed a partnership with fellow inventor Alfred Vail, who funded in the
invention and also helped with the dots and dashes for sending signals which is what we know as
morse code. Until 1842, when Morse gained the attention of Maine Congressman, Francis Ormand
Jonathan Smith. The same year Samuel attached two wires between two committee rooms in the
capitol and was able to send code back and forth. With the help of Smith, Samuel won $30,000 for
the demmonstration and to construct a 38 mile telegraph line between Washington D.C., Baltimore,
and Maryland. On May 24, 1844 Samuel tapped his first message which read "What hath God
wrought!". Almost as soon as Morse received his patent for the telegraph in 1847, he was hit with
litigious claims from partners and rival inventors. The legal battles culminated in the U.S. Supreme
Court decision O'Rielly v.s. Morse in 1854, that stated Morse had been the first to develop a
workable telegraph. In spite of the court's clear ruling, Morse received no official recognition from
the U.S.

Technology And Its Impact On Society
Since the beginning of time , humans have created forms of technology to communicate (1)to
people . People have created paintings and carving in the time before 30 000 BCE to communicate
their stories and lives to others . As people would communicate with others the technology being
used would advance over time (2)in society in different forms . From prehistoric paintings and
carvings there progressed communication such as cuneiform and hieroglyphics . From there human
advancement created the Alphabets in 1850 – 1700 BCE which till this day we currently use in
written form of communications (3)in email , letters , and etc . In China , around 100 BCE paper
was created and used which made writing easier , and wouldn 't be as difficult to carve in wood or
carve into clay tablet 's for people to send messages . With the invention of paper communication
increased , and in 1440 CE a man named Johannes Gutenberg created the very first printing press .
Following the printing press Samuel Morse and other inventors in the 1830s and 1840s created the
telegraph . The telegraph would have two points connected by a long wire that would allow you to
communicate by a series of signals like Morse code for instance . In 1850 , the first undersea cable
connected London and Paris . Thus this invention created instant long distance communication with
people compared to signal fires and it was simple to construct . The telegraph also required help to
decipher the code , thus interpreters were

During the Civil War, the telegraph proved its value as a tactical, operational, and strategic
communication medium and an important contributor to Union victory. By contrast, the
Confederacy failed to make effective use of the South's much smaller telegraph network for several
reasons. The United States Military Telegraph Service (USMT) handled some 6.5 million messages
during the war and built 15,000 miles of line. In contrast, the South used the telegraph in only the
most limited fashion. Ulysses S. Grant wrote that he had "held frequent conversations over the
wires" about strategy with Stanton during 1863, some lasting two hours. William Tecumseh
Sherman also recalled the "perfect concert of action" between his forces in Georgia and Grant's in
Virginia in 1864.The telegraph was really important in the civil war because it could send very
important messages. The messages could be a lot of different things that were very useful to the
safety of the people like if something really bad were to happen they could use the telegraph to send
a important message. The telegraph was beginning to change the executive's relationship with his
forces in the field. While General Scott napped, the new president consumed the electronically
delivered updates. Thirteen months later, when the armies battled again along Bull Run, it was a
different story in the telegraph office. No longer was Lincoln content to sit idly by and await
information, he was actively in communication with the front. It was pretty deralibe so it could last
a very long time. That made it easier because they never had to get a new one they could save time

he could sell his patent for about $25 million. Bell thought it was too late and decided not to sell it

famous demonstrations was from New York to Chicago in 1892. Queen Victoria showed excitement

Essay 1
Bong Hits 4 Jesus In the USA people are allowed the right to express their opinion openly without
the risk of backlash from others who are offended by it. Freedom of speech is a very important
privilege that our founding father felt should be instilled in the government to promote democracy.
Being able to express one's own opinions and concerns openly without the risk of being executed or
put in prison by the king, was an important part of their political view. This was a major concern
that was very important for the founding fathers, and for that reason it was the first concern that was
addressed when they were creating the laws of this new government. This in theory, would assist
and allow the people of the USA to have a voice in running its' own government. The first
amendment allows freedom of speech to its people and welcomes open discussion on handling
government issues. Though freedom of speech is important to allow self–expression, sometimes
freedom of speech in relation to personal issues can cause conflict and opposing views between
individuals. Some may use or even abuse the privilege of the first amendment to make offensive
comments that affect others in a negative way. In this essay I will be presenting an example of a
court case of Morse v. Frederick that test the boundaries of free speech, and how examples from this
case effect both sides of the argument, and in addition

Informative Essay Hook
Pinkston, Anna Dr. Jeff Newberry ENGL 1101H August 26, 2017 As my ninth–grade English
teacher, Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read it.
As I was taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience's
attention so that they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook could
be a question or a quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to do a
controversial essay and I used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my
essay over tattoos and piercings. After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the
audience what your essay is about. The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the
audience what the essay is about. The introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial
hook and keep the audience invested in the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should
contain the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the point in your essay where you will state the
topics that the essay will contain. In high school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the
three points that you will elaborate upon in your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the
middle point, and the strongest point. The first body paragraph should be the weakest or simplest
way to get the overall point of the essay across to the readers. This will be the foundation of all three
points,

Detective Fiction functions a medium of refuge from modernism. The detective novel provides a
mode of order and stability which is otherwise threatened in the world. The paradigm shift

the reader to escape the tedious police procedure and dive more into the politics at play which is

  • 5. Colin Dexter's Inspector Morse: Characteristics Of The... Gentleman traits of the English detective like Trent's passion for art and journalism (EC Bentley's Philip Trent) , Poirot's interest in clothes and food (Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot) , Wimsey's taste for the finer things in life (Dorothy Sayers' Peter Wimsey) – all imply a commitment to the civilised living of an English fop and to security beyond the dark sphere of crime. These are characteristics emitted by the Detective of the Golden Age. Dexter employs the leisured detection of Golden Age in a post Second World War era when there is an inherent class consciousness and there is no room for the English gentleman to remain so. Dexter has written the novel at a time when the impact of the Second World War has stripped away the image of the affluent English society and the example of British endurance, unity, family and personal relationships, and sees a rise in crime and increasing incompetence of official authorities. By introducing a character like Morse, Dexter looks back to the assurance that Golden Age amateur detectives gave. In any case, Dexter and his contemporary detective fiction writers exploit the popularity of detective fiction by adhering to the classical formula in a post–Golden Age era. This helps in understanding the contemporaneity of the present through a glimpse of past methods. The portrayals of different aspects of British communities reflect an increasing social awareness and self–consciousness of how society re–imagines itself through the lens of the ... He painted many great paintings and also invented a great invention. Even though he was not the best student in his early years, he grew up to be a keen, God loving man. His discoveries and art not only changed America, but it also changed the entire world. Samuel Morse's contraption enabled Americans to communicate with each other much more conveniently. He saw how difficult it was to communicate with other signals such as flame beacons, flashlights, semaphore signals, and writing letters. Because of that, Morse invented an apparatus that no one else conceived. The life of Samuel Morse was extremely valuable and was influential to the whole world. Samuel Morse was rather apathetic about his life during his early years, and his family cared much about him. As a young child, Morse was born into his family on April 27, 1791, in Charleston, Massachusetts. His father was named Jedidiah Morse, and his mother was named Elizabeth Ann Finley Breese. He had a brother named Sidney Edwards Morse, and he had two sisters named Sarah K. Morse and Mary K. Morse. He studied at Phillips Academy often wasting time drawing. • 10. A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something like science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong answers, those with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are. According to the dictionary, a genre is "a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like" (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their purposes we must first take a step back and look at some other fundamental concepts. A popular model designed by Bruce W. Tuckman suggests that all groups experience five phases: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning (Gulati 439–440). At our cores, humans seek to be accepted and acknowledged by others. We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the areas we are passionate about. This part of human nature is nothing new, it is something programmed deep into our genes for millennia. It happens before our eyes every day; sports fans meet in stadiums, video game fans meet at conventions, artists meet at exhibitions, and so on. People of similar interest meet, one way or another, and are drawn together by their passion. Some groups remain small friend circles, while others may grow vastly to be composed of millions of members. These vast communities, known as discourse communities, ... Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to the loss of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York University, that helped improved Morse's design that used superior batteries and electromagnets that enabled it to transfer currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse had perfected his telegraph; it was able to send signals over great distances. Although his Journey wasn't over, he now had to send his work to Washington where he awaited to be approved by Congress. He attended both sessions of Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day of the session, which was March 3, 1843, he "spent the whole day and part of the evening in the Senate chamber, anxiously watching the progress of the passing of the various bills" (Morse) to watch the bill get passed, he was awarded $30,000 to set up the very first telegraph machine from Washington to Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was made from household instruments that consisted of "an old picture or canvas frame fastened to a table; the wheels of an old wooden clock [...] and a short circuit of a wire, embracing the helices of the electro–magnet connected with the positive and negative poles of the battery and terminating the mercury–cups" (Morse). • 13. Telecommunication Is The Real Face Of The Advances Of... Telecommunications Telecommunication is the real face of the advances in Information Technology (IT). In fact, the overwhelming advances that humankind has seen in the last decades in IT (internet, telephone, television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication) are effects of the advance of Telecommunications (normally the word is used in plural because it encompasses different types of means of transmission). From the electrical telegraph of Samuel Morse (1837) to the transmission of voice and image over the Internet (Skype, Hangout etc.), the Telecommunications has developed too much and affected the world and the human being behavior. Telecommunications means the transmission of information between two stations. Basically, a transmitter, a receiver and an electrical mean – channel – are enough to complete a telecommunication process. The channel can be a cable, electromagnetic waves or fiber optics. This system is interconnected in a very large network on which all communications in the world is done. A simple fixed telephone call, a cellphone call, a satellite transmission, an e–mail, a download of a music, everything is possible because of this network. Even though the main goal of this network is the communication, it can go beyond this. Actually, this large system supports the international trade, the online education, the exchanging of messages (e–mail, short message), the Internet, the bank transactions and many other services. Besides, a new kind of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Data communication is made up of: A receiver A Sender A Message The first type of data communication to be invented was the telegraph. This was invented by Samuel Morse in the 1830's. It was mainly used for longer communication. It used dots and dashes to represent letters of the alphabet. One of the main uses in which this type of communication was during World War 1 to communicate between long distance troops to co ordinate attacks. This invention of the telegraph proved how useful long distance communication was in society. This led to more interest in data communication to occur which sparked the invention of the telephone. This allows for faster communication due to one person not needing to wait an hour or a day for a reply. When you call someone through the phone you almost instantly get a reply. If the connection between the receiver and sender is weak the could be a little bit of delay. This can also be due to weather interruptions which could disrupt the signal. • 15. Technology And Technology : The Importance Of Technology Mankind's capability to advance as a species can be attributed to one major practice, and that is the constant increase in use and development of technology that enhances us or our surroundings. Ever since the era of cavemen we have been using technology to help make our lives easier or, at least, more enjoyable. Through these accomplishments, humans have transformed from being just another animal merely existing to a conscious entity that is always striving to achieve more on an individual or collective setting. Without technology the fundamental necessities of a functioning society such as; communication, education, employment, and health care would be unavailable, leaving us vulnerable to the harsh realities of a world that doesn't take pity on the unknowing. To better understand and appreciate the importance of technology that we have today I think it's important to look back at where it all began. The first form of technology came approximately 72,000 years ago in the shape of primitive tools such as rocks for mashing foraged foods and sharp sticks for hunting wildlife. Robert Buchanan explains the difference in technology used by humans compared to animals: Essentially, techniques are methods of creating new tools and products of tools, and the capacity for constructing such artifacts is a determining characteristic of humanlike species. Other species make artifacts: bees build elaborate hives to deposit their honey, birds make nests, and beavers build dams. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The primary purpose of these meetings is to provide new nurses with ongoing support during the transition period from student to nurse. Although this is the primary purpose of these groups, group members use this time to discuss policies and procedures that need to be updated and or clarified, discuss situations on the units that continue to lead to negative patient outcomes, discuss most recent evidence based practices for surgical procedures performed at the facility, and to share facility updates. All of the same statements were later made in the 1990s, when people were astonished at the potential of the Internet. Whatever expectations and predictions people had about the telegraph, they were right about one thing: the telegraph would be consequential over the course of history. The introduction of the telegraph had an influence in communications on a large global scale, and altered both diplomacy and society. The first being the development of the steam engine and the second the invention of the telegraph. It's the 1800s and industrialization is thriving throughout America. People are moving away from an agricultural way of life, moving into cities, developing arts and trades and trying to expand their boundaries of who, where and how they can trade marketable items. In trying to reach more and more customers at further and further distances the ability to travel further in less time creates a demand. In this time period most of the trade routes revolved around rivers as this was the easiest method of transportation and the mighty Mississippi being the largest trade route. However, the problem with traveling the Mississippi or any riverway at this time is that you are at the mercy of the wind and currents. At this time you travelled by boat with full sail and could not maneuver against tides or a poor wind. There was a need to create something that could deal with this dilemma. History of the Telegraph Essay The electric telegraph is a now outdated communication system that was used to transmit electric signals over wires from location to location that translated into a message by people at stations. The non–electric telegraph was invented by Claude Chappe in 1794. This system was visual and used a semaphore, an alphabet based on flag language, and depended on a line of sight for communication. This "optical telegraph" was replaced by the electric telegraph, eventually. In 1809, a crude telegraph was invented in Bavaria by Samuel Soemmering. He used 35 wires with gold electrodes in water and at the receiving end 2000 feet the message was read by the amount of gas caused by electrolysis. In 1828, the first telegraph in the USA. was ... Samuel made sketches of a "magnetized magnet" based on Henry's work. He then went on to invent a telegraph system that was a practical and commercial success. Samuel Morse While he was a professor of arts and design at the New York University in 1835, Samuel Morse proved that signals could be transmitted by wire. He used impulses of electrical current to deflect an electromagnet, which moved a marker to produce written codes on a strip of paper – thus the invention of Morse Code. The following year, the device was modified to emboss the paper with dots and dashes. Samuel gave a public demonstration in 1838, but it was not until five years later that the Congress funded $30,000 to construct an experimental telegraph line from Washington to Baltimore, a distance of 40 miles. Six years later, members of Congress witnessed the sending and receiving of messages over part of the telegraph line. Before the line had reached Baltimore, the Whig party held its national convention there, and on May 1, 1844, nominated Henry Clay. During the Civil War, the telegraph proved its value as a tactical, operational, and strategic communication medium and an important contributor to Union victory. By contrast, the Confederacy failed to make effective use of the South's much smaller telegraph network for several reasons. The United States Military Telegraph Service (USMT) handled some 6.5 million messages during the war and built 15,000 miles of line. In contrast, the South used the telegraph in only the most limited fashion. Ulysses S. Grant wrote that he had "held frequent conversations over the wires" about strategy with Stanton during 1863, some lasting two hours. William Tecumseh Sherman also recalled the "perfect concert of action" between his forces in Georgia and Grant's in Virginia in 1864.The telegraph was really important in the civil war because it could send very important messages. The messages could be a lot of different things that were very useful to the safety of the people like if something really bad were to happen they could use the telegraph to send a important message. The Western Union said it was nothing more than a toy and they would not pay that much. Later, his partners said to Bell that he could sell his patent for about $25 million. Bell thought it was too late and decided not to sell it and to keep his company. Bell began to show the world his revolutionary design. One of the more famous demonstrations was from New York to Chicago in 1892. Queen Victoria showed excitement and said, "Most extraordinary!" • 32. The Importance Of Freedom Of Speech Mark Yang English writing 302 Crc fall smester 2017, tue thurs 7:30am Essay 1 Bong Hits 4 Jesus In the USA people are allowed the right to express their opinion openly without the risk of backlash from others who are offended by it. Freedom of speech is a very important privilege that our founding father felt should be instilled in the government to promote democracy. Being able to express one's own opinions and concerns openly without the risk of being executed or put in prison by the king, was an important part of their political view. This was a major concern that was very important for the founding fathers, and for that reason it was the first concern that was addressed when they were creating the laws of this new government. This in theory, would assist and allow the people of the USA to have a voice in running its' own government. The first amendment allows freedom of speech to its people and welcomes open discussion on handling government issues. Though freedom of speech is important to allow self–expression, sometimes freedom of speech in relation to personal issues can cause conflict and opposing views between individuals. Some may use or even abuse the privilege of the first amendment to make offensive comments that affect others in a negative way. In this essay I will be presenting an example of a court case of Morse v. Frederick that test the boundaries of free speech, and how examples from this case effect both sides of the argument, and in addition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Informative Essay Hook Pinkston, Anna Dr. Jeff Newberry ENGL 1101H August 26, 2017 As my ninth–grade English teacher, Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read it. As I was taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience's attention so that they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook could be a question or a quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to do a controversial essay and I used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my essay over tattoos and piercings. After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the audience what your essay is about. The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the audience what the essay is about. The introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial hook and keep the audience invested in the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should contain the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the point in your essay where you will state the topics that the essay will contain. In high school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the three points that you will elaborate upon in your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the middle point, and the strongest point. The first body paragraph should be the weakest or simplest way to get the overall point of the essay across to the readers. This will be the foundation of all three points, ... News on the radio "News is not reality, but a supply of sources' potrayals of reality, mediated by news organisations." Leon V. Sigal, quoted in Manoff and Schudson, Reading the News 3.1 What is news? Even if limited to just a minute or two at the top of each hour, news act as a punctuation mark between programmes or time periods. According to Barnard (2000: 139), the news is often „a measure of a station's credibility and a major factor in the buying and selling of media on an international scale". One could say that the news is constituted of an accurate, balanced and timely reportage on the events of the day, or a combination of what will interest and engage the public. But the primary point is that news never just ‘happens': what appears in a bulletin is an attempt to a comprehensible interpretation of selected events, and as such is never wholly value–free. (cf. Barnard 2000: 139–149) 3.2 News values The purpose of news is to translate what is happening in the world in terms that make it comprehendable – that is, understandable according to listener expectations and experience. It works as a medium to restore order to a threatened social calm. With its narrative integrity and attempt to establish a universal order governed by reason, Golden Age Detective Fiction functions a medium of refuge from modernism. The detective novel provides a mode of order and stability which is otherwise threatened in the world. Unlike the consulting detective of the Golden Age who is more focussed on the mystery that crime brings, Morse cares about bringing the murderer to justice. And unlike the incompetent police detective whose incompetence is the reason an amateur is consulted, Morse is actually competent and efficient in his job. The multiple chapters and insights employed by Dexter in the novel allow the reader to escape the tedious police procedure and dive more into the politics at play which is directly related to the people involved in the case. But the reader is also informed of Morse's digressions and progress. He tails his suspects, pursues women, falls off ladders, gets drunk, his car is broken and he gets it repaired; Morse may not be characterised as friendly but he is human and Dexter makes sure that the reader catches this as the story progresses. He is unlike the eccentric and almost superhuman detective of the earlier version of the genre who seldom makes mistakes and basks on that superhuman quality and knack for detection and lack of humanly errors.
