Mountains Beyond Mountains Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Mountains Beyond Mountains" can be a challenging yet
rewarding task. This topic, derived from Tracy Kidder's book of the same name, delves into the
life and work of Dr. Paul Farmer, a physician and anthropologist dedicated to providing medical
care in impoverished regions. The complexity arises from the need to navigate through Farmer's
intricate journey, combining elements of healthcare, social justice, and global activism.
One must grapple with the intricate interplay of Farmer's personal experiences, his medical
endeavors, and the broader socio-political context. Analyzing the impact of Farmer's work
requires a comprehensive understanding of healthcare disparities, global health issues, and the
complexities of addressing them. Crafting a well-rounded essay necessitates research into
Farmer's philosophy, the challenges he faced, and the outcomes of his efforts.
Furthermore, the essay should not merely recount events but should also critically engage with
the underlying themes and ethical dilemmas presented in "Mountains Beyond Mountains." It
calls for a nuanced exploration of Farmer's motivations, the implications of his approach, and the
broader significance of his work in the realm of global health.
Maintaining a coherent structure and flow is another challenge. The narrative may involve
weaving together timelines, geographical contexts, and diverse characters. The writer must
transition seamlessly between personal anecdotes, medical achievements, and societal reflections
to provide a holistic perspective.
However, despite the challenges, delving into the complexities of "Mountains Beyond
Mountains" offers a unique opportunity for intellectual growth. It demands a careful balance of
empathy, critical analysis, and a deep understanding of the socio-cultural landscapes depicted in
the narrative.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Mountains Beyond Mountains" requires a commitment to in-
depth research, critical thinking, and the ability to synthesize multifaceted information. Yet, it is
precisely this complexity that makes the task intellectually stimulating and rewarding for those
who undertake it.

Effects of Technological Advances
From the time printed publications were the dominant medium to the modern era
where the internet has emerged as the dominant medium the field of journalism has
experienced colossal growth, development, and evolvement. The changes caused by
the gradual introduction of new and more efficient mediums consistently affected
journalismand the way journalists delivered content to the public.
Prior to the concept of broadcasting, newspapers were the primary means of
communication in society. Initially newspapers were a means of spreading news,
usually on a local or regional level. In the times of the Civil War newspapers were
used to spread news through out connected areas, in that time being the North and the
South. The invention of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the ability to access content at any time and filter through content that you want
at your own pace things were again changed dramatically. Journalists and all outlets of
the media were forced to adapt to the changes brought on by the internet. Eventually
as internet usage skyrocketed and all outlets of the media have in some way
integrate into the internet. The popularity of the internet flipped the journalistic
world upside down, and today anyone with their own blog can report to people on
a wide scale just the same as newspapers, television, and radio. In the modern day
world by linking together with satellite and internet communication, the world has
finally been able to come together as one global community. The capabilities the
internet has brought now allows journalists to reach people from all over the globe,
which is a great change from the times of the Civil War and news being spread and
created on a local and regional basis.
In conclusion, it is important to consider that with each advancement in
communication beginning with printed text and then to radio and television and then
internet, communication throughout the world at large has increased dramatically.
Throughout these advancements journalism has evolved and has remained an
important part of our society.

Agatha Christie Rationale
LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale
The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new
as stated in the subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed
more towards newer fans, such as Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know
where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make sure they don t read a book that
spoils another book they have not yet read.
I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John
Curran, as I imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was
successful. The movie review on Murder on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch
was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres recently so I looked for a
mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by Kate
Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew
every detail of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking.
I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow
since I imagined the audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them
into much smaller steps and categorised the steps for legibility and ease of reading
on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became its own heading. Because
this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international audience
and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I
Imperialism In Hotel Rwanda
The continent of Africa has been continually engaged in civil, tribal and cross
national conflicts from colonial independence up until present day. What historians
regard as the most efficient genocide in history, occurred in a mere 100 days in the
small central African country of Rwanda. The Hutus and the Tutsis, two ethnic
groups within Rwanda, have been at continual unrest for the past half a century.
During the 100 day massacre of 1994, a murder occurred every two seconds;
resulting in 18% of the Tutsi population being killed. A decade after the war, in
2004, the film Hotel Rwanda was released. The film followed the story of a Hutu
man; Paul Rusesabagina as he housed over 1200 Tutsi refugees in his hotel. The

Before Rwanda became an independent African run country, it was under Belgian
control. In the 1930s Belgium imposed indirect rule and put Tutsis in control of
government. The Belgians did not invent the two ethnic groups, Hutu and Tutsi, but
colonial intervention enforced a new meaning for the two ethnicities and thus
engrained a hierarchy among the Rwandans . The Tutsis could be determined by their
taller slighter build, lighter skin and thinner noses; in conclusion, they were the
whitest Africans . By 1994 the two groups were visibly indistinguishable because of
mixed parentage. This is portrayed in the movie Hotel Rwanda when a journalist asks
two women what ethnicity they are; he discovers that one is Hutu and the other Tutsi.
The journalist replies that the women could be twins. In the 1950s the newly
established United Nations began to pressure Belgium to vacate Rwanda. Belgium
introduced reforms to increase Hutu representation in politics, so from the 1950s until
1962, when Rwanda achieved independence a Hutu movement was born. The Hutu
movement was gaining momentum and national recognition; the violence conducted
during this period forced thousands of Tutsis to leave the country. In 1961 Belgium
sponsored the federal election and a Hutu man, Gregoire Kayibanda was elected to
power. This Hutu revolution excluded Tutsis from government and military.

Analysis of the Mad Men opening Title Sequence Essay
Analysis of Mad Men Title Sequence
University of Minnesota
Abstract This analysis will cover the middle scene in the Mad Men opening title
sequence. This will be addressing the principles and elements of design and their
impact on the viewing experience of this segment of title sequence. This scene is an
illustration of a man free falling from a skyscraper, down the side of a building.
Further detail will be addressed later. Three elements of design will be discussed:
line, color, and shape. All are designed to show continuity and free flowing movement

Red is a color that evokes emotion and draws the eye, so in its sporadic
occurrences, one s eyes are drawn to the text in the ad and more importantly to the
name of the guest star. The second design element is line. Line is used in this
scene to break apart the buildings and windows within, and really focus the
geometric shapes. Although the lines are soft and light in weight, aside from the
outer most lines of the buildings, which are hard but still thin, they are uniform in
their clear representation of the shape of the buildings and the windows. These
lines depict a vertical and horizontal relationship from the dimensions of the
building and windows. From the angle of the scene in discussion, the horizontal
lines appear diagonal converging on each other at the corners of the buildings and
windows. These converging lines at the top of the buildings demonstrate a focal
point brought upon by the location of emphasis (Hemmis 2013). The lines of the
building are enclosed to the achromatic background to separate them from the
background and divide the pictorial space. The only lines that are curved in this
scene appear in the ads and the form of the free falling man. The final element is
shape. The shapes in this scene are primarily geometric. The windows and the
buildings are created by the soft yet defined lines seen throughout the scene. Linear
shapes are made by the convergence
Essay about The Importance of Merchants in Medieval
Times
During the Medieval Times, merchants were just as important and wealthy as the
lords and nobles. The way they would go about their wealth was getting an
education to learn how to think, count, information about the world, interest rates,
exchange rates, and many more information that relates to dealing with money and
trade. Education has always been important to create opportunities to have
successful jobs and it was interesting to read that in Medieval Times education was
considered more of a hobby, but to be a merchant it became less of a hobby and
more of an opportunity to be well educated people and gave them a chance to be
successful business men. Merchants were big contributors to their countries
economy. They would buy raw... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The masters were the people who were professionals in a specific craft. The
apprentices were usually the Master s sons who learned their specific craft for a
certain amount of years. After all the time that is spent learning the craft, they
gained more skill and experience. Once they ve finished their experience as an
apprentice and learning everything they needed to know, they would work as
Journeymen. They would then work and save up all of the money that they earned to
one day open up a store of their own. It was interesting to learn that women also took
part in guild. Unfortunately, they were not treated as well as the men. They were
treated as second class workers and second class members. Women worked as
servants, petty retailers, spinsters, midwives, prostitutes, and any occupation that
didn t involve any skills. Most women were arranged to marry Guild Masters. Some
of the crafts they worked on were silk pinning and embroidery. Even though they
were involved in some production of goods, they were completely controlled by the
men. Some merchants became wealthy and some weren t so lucky. Wealth did not
depend on status or hierarchy; it depended on your success in business. Some
merchants even made their way up to nobles because of how good they were as
businessmen. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Church s looked down upon those who
made their living as merchants. An occupation that involved
Non Violent Protests In The Civil Rights Movement
Throughout the 1950s and the 1960s, civil rights activists started protesting for
change. In the US and Australia there were many significant protests undertaken by
different groups of brave individuals all to invoke change. Some of the most
influential protests were the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the American and
Australian Freedom Rides. These protests mainly used the tactic of non violent
protests however, they also used boycotts and demonstrations. These protests brought
great change to the way that the African Americans were treated in the US and the
Indigenous people in Australia, because it forced the public to acknowledge the
hardships that they had to face from segregation. The main tactic used by civil rights
activists in both Australian and the United states was non violent protests. This is
when the activists would protest with methods that would not harm anybody. This
was done because the civil rights activists did not want to sink down to their
oppressor s level and also so that no legal action could be inflicted on the African
Americancommunity. The freedom rides in the United States were perfect examples
of non violent protests as the leaders of these actions would not harm anybody in the
course of change. Martin Luther King was a key aspect of the entire Civil Rights
Movement including the Freedom Rides and he believed that Nonviolence is a
powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who
wields it. It is a sword that
Job Satisfaction In The Military
The concept of job satisfaction is not new; the Bible says There is nothing better
for man than to eat, drink, and enjoy his work. (Ecclesiastes 2:24a, Holman
Christian Standard Bible) However, Job satisfaction in today s workforce is more
complicated than just enjoying your work. Being satisfied with your job quite
simply implies that an employee feels positively about their job. Alternatively, job
dissatisfaction is feeling negatively about one s job. (Robbins, et al. 79) Job
satisfaction and dissatisfaction is based on personal opinions, job tempo has a
profound affect on those sentiments. The Importance of Job Satisfaction in Today s
Special Forces There are several attitudes that are involved in the overall concept of
job satisfaction. This is an important facet of all businesses. Being in the military
gives a unique perspective to these concepts. Not only that, being a member of
Special Operations makes my perspective much more acute. All aspects of these
attitudes can be applied here. However, I will focus on a select few that are the most
obvious within my organization. Job Involvement... Show more content on

79). This can be an issue in the military since individuals have very little say in
what their jobs are and even less say in where they live and work. There are a
multitude of military careers and employees whose jobs are quite menial and whose
members care very little about performing those jobs. However, being a special
operations pilot is one of my most important roles in today s military force. That
being the case, job involvement is highly important within my network. Due to heavy
involvement, all members care deeply about their role, train with an impeccable sense
of betterment, and they understand they are a valued member of the
The s Operational Values Internal Communication
Alaska Airlines have lately recovered from a period of operational uncertainty, yet
its executives worry the airline is draining its reserves of goodwill and consumer
loyalty, due to variability in, its data for on time flights and mishandled baggage and
losses over the past two years. The senior executives question whether the
organization could survive if the functionality were to slip again after concentrating
lots of resources on operations in an attempt to recover equilibrium. Is staying status
quo good enough, or should the airlines leadershiptakes action to transform the
operational values Internal Communicationis one of the most neglected areas of
strategic planning.
Most companies spend a great deal of money and effort on their external
communication plan but fail to expend any energy toward creating an organized plan
for internal communication. They rarely discusses using a planned approach to
internal communication as a proactive strategy for long term business success.
Expected benefits are important an elements as well as issues for consideration are
presented along with the planning and measurement of the internal communication
strategy. The ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, and
employees is imperative to providing greater customer satisfaction and improving
business productivity. How well information is communicated both externally to
customers and vendors and internally to employees is vital to long term business
success.

Moore s 4th Floor Case Study
The 4th floor of Moore was suddenly without an RA on the first day of classes at
the beginning of this academic year. All the way across campus, was Mikaila
Woods; a CA in Kramer Complex got a call from the Residence Life Coordinator of
Moore Hall. That Friday Mikaila was chosen to fill that void on Moore s 4th floor,
and by Saturday night she had finished unpacking into her new lobby room.
Mikaila came in with no training, onto a floor with no leader. Her leadership has
grown all on her own, and anything that did, and will happen, on that floor is
because of her. Since then she has made herself available to her residents and
socialized her floor in time to create a great community on her floor. She did this by
reiterating the importance of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through all of the relationships that Mikaila has formed since being hiring last
second, she has created an exceptional bond with the RLA on her floor. RLA Nyssa
Owens and Mikaila have become best friends over this academic year, often
inseparable and always building each other up. They will work side by side in
programs and help each other out in a multitude of ways when it comes to their
student staff position.
I m honestly just stunned with the work she has done. She came to Moore without
going through training, yet within two days she established a floor GroupMe,
created a social program, and had bulletin boards ready to go. She s one of the most
driven people I ve ever seen, and she makes her work meaningful. I love her
steadfast integrity and her loyalty to this job, even when the job isn t kind to RA s.
She s a natural here, she always belonged in Moore. Darby Huddleston (Staff)
If she s sets her mind to something, she s going to do it. She sets her eye on the
prize and works as hard as she can to get there. She does this with everything she
does. Even if it s as simple as getting a bulletin board done, she plans What s she s
going to do, and then gets to work. I think that s why she s succeeded this year. She
doesn t give up and the staff applauds her for it. Chantelle Simon
The Mass Murder Of Jews
The mass murder of millions of Jews was a horrendous experiment and something
only men filled with hatred could inflict on the innocent lives of that era. A
deportation train would arrive at a Natzi camp and unload all of the Jews that had
been collected and taken from their homes. The Jews would be unloaded and the
men were separated from the woman and children. A physician would glance at
each person to see determine their health status and whether they were worth
keeping alive. The ones deemed weak in the eyes of the Natzi s were taken to gas
chambers. In order to prevent panic, the victims were told they were simply taking a
shower to get rid of the lice. Each person would hand over their valuables and then
fully undress. The line of Jews
Media Based Interaction Started Long Before The Internet
The study of media based interaction started long before the Internet by looking at
feedback as a concept (Wiener, 1948; Shannon Weaver, 1949; Kiousis, 2002).
Ultimately, online story comments online connect to the idea of feedback (Wiener,
1948; Nordlund, 1978). As it relates to digital environments people have been more
likely to seek feedback online compared to those engaged in person to person
conversations (Ang Cummings, 1994). In addition, feedback is one method that
community media outlets could use to provide cohesive representation of the
community (Lowrey, Brozana, Mackay, 2008). Feedback loops represent the pattern
of communicationwhere journalists produced content and then a member of the
public responded, this version... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Synchronous and asynchronous communication
In the past, there was an issue of public expectation and the consumer should not
presume continuous or immediate feedback (Schudson, 1978). This partially explains
why the ability to engage in interactivity has been considered one of the advantages
of digital media (Morris Ogan, 1997). Immediacy within communication has not been
necessary to support common action, but the ability to communicate in real time
could make a digital community feel more tangible to its users (Marathe, 1999).
Therefoe, a need remains to understand the differences between synchronous and
asynchronous communication as it relates to digital communication. For example,
synchronous communication tools because of their expectation of quicker retort can
lead to additional interaction (Shirani, Tafti Affisco, 1999). Meanwhile, with
asynchronous communication tools the communication can deeper and more
detailed, yet there is less interaction (Shirani, Tafti Affisco, 1999).
The ability to engage in synchronous communication may represent an important part
of the maintenance of virtual communities (Porter, 2004). There are some websites
that engage in synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid (both synchronous and
asynchronous) communication (Porter, 2004). Early studies on digital interactivity
suggested the immediacy of response was only part of the potential for online
interactivity; there also existed the possibility for discussions to
A Class to Remember
Engineering is frustrating. It consumes so much of my energy that I cannot carve
a smile on my face anymore. I am so tired. I feel like it is 10000000000000000 miles
to walk from Sweeney to the East Hall. However, whenever I first step into the class,
the first thing I will look for is what hat is going to be on Mr. Driscoll s head. There
are all cute and smart hats! I laugh every single time I look at his funny hats. Oh, I
have a tagline for this class! A hat a day, keeps the stress away. Ah, I am going to
miss his hats, I swear.
Time flies so fast. Spring is about coming to the end. I am definitely not the same
person today as I was yesterday. Everything has changed; hopefully in a good way.
Yes, I make mistakes, I reflect, and I become wiser at the end. In this essay, I am
going to write some reflections that drive me to become a better writer.
During the process of drafting a paper, one of the things I have in mind is my
audience. In order to write a good paper, it is crucial to consider the audience so you
can identify how you are going to write it. For example, if you are going to write
letter to your brother, it will sound weird if you use formal language. Same goes if
you are writing to the Obama; it will definitely sound weird if you greet him like,
how is it going, bro? It is way too informal and you cannot do this if you are writing
to your leader. What I am trying to say here is it is your audience that will determine
the style of your writing.

The Implementation Of International Accounting Standards
INHERENT PROBLEMS.
Even if uniformity were to be reached, the IOSCO disclosure standards do not
encircle all of the information required of an easy access to cross border capital
markets.
The IOSCO plan does not cover accounting standards.(66) These standards are
important for providing financial statements in a scheme that are prepared in the
similar manner as those by issuers from other countries. The development of
international accounting standards is the subject of a distinct project by IOSCO, and
many accounting professionals who are concomitant with that undertaking are
hopeful that a satisfactory solution is within reach.(67) Supposing, however, that an
agreement is possible on a core set of financial standards and that they too are
embraced by securities regulators as compulsory for foreign issuers, the road to
commonality has at least two other impediments. The first problem derive from the
flexibility that the IOSCO disclosure standards unequivocally grant to the securities
regulators of the host country in a cross border share offering. These standards
cogitate that the core disclosure document will undertake a minimum of tailoring to
fit national requirements. (68) But the extent of national tailoring allowed under
those standards could be extensive. The IOSCO standards specifically recognized
that additional disclosure by foreign issuers will sometimes be essential in certain
host countries because of local custom
James Meredith Impact On Civil Life
When James Meredith recalled the events that happened on Sept. 20, 1962, all he
said was I considered myself engaged in a war from day one (James Meredith
Quotes). But what does this mean? In 1962, there was lots of segregation occurring,
and that includes the town of Oxford, Mississippi. The University of Mississippi(Ole
Miss) was segregated at the time, and there were a lot of problems when they found
out that 29 year old James Meredithwanted to enroll, especially because he had
colored skin. He knew that there was going to be some people who would disagree
with the idea, but he didn t realize how far they would take it. James Meredith was
born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on June 25, 1933. He is the son of Moses and Roxie
Meredith, and was raised on a farm with 9 siblings. When he was old enough,
served in the United States Air Force for 9 years. After he served, he enrolled in
JacksonState College, which was for colored skin only. He studied there until 1961,
and eventually sent his application to go to the University of Mississippi. At first,

the first award he had accepted in the last 50 years. He gave hope to African

Laurie Halse Anderson Speak Analysis
In the novel, Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda Sordino is the 14 year old
girl who was raped at an end of summer party. She finds herself struggling with her
life and adjusting to what had happened. Melinda trudges through her freshman
year of high school, being constantly reminded of the unspeakable experience. The
only thing that gets her through her days, is art. Art gives Melinda the ability to
grow mentally and physically stronger, allowing her to open up about her incident,
accept what had happened, and confront who she is afraid of most. Throughout the
novel, Melinda uses art as a way to cope with what she is dealing with. For
example, when Melinda made a new art project, her teacher said This has meaning,
pain (Anderson 65). Although Melinda had not said anything, her art teacher
recognized what she was trying to show and it made her more comfortable in his
class. This allowed Melinda to become friends with Ivy, a girl she met in art. One

trying to convey a message through her art. In the end, Melinda accepted her
perfectly imperfect tree, along with the unfortunate experience that had happened the
previous summer. I look at my homely sketch. It doesn t need anything. It isn t

There is no avoiding it, no forgetting....It wasn t my fault. And I m not going to let it

and not focusing on what is perfect, and rather accept it and
Scarface The Movie Psychology
In this essay I decided to watch the movie Scarface (1932). This movie is directed
by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson. Its lead actors are Osgood Perkins, Paul
Muni, Ann Dvorak, and Karen Morley. Scarface is a film about guns, gangsters,
and pretty woman, it follows a story of a fast rising gangster who lives by the moto
the world is yours, but once he finds himself at the top he is quick to find his world
is tumbling down around him.
Looking at scenes of sexual innuendo the film handled it with showing minor skin
or even kissing. One scene of a sexual innuendo is the dialogue with Tony (Paul
Muni) and Poppy (Karen Morley). In this scene you hear Tony say I m not hungry.
Except for you. You got something I like hinting to Poppy that he is interested in
her more than he is food. Even with the films restrictions on not showing a lot of
skin or even a sex scene the directors were able to still put their points across to what
the characters implied, and that there was a sense of romance between the two
without having to show any explicated scenes. ... Show more content on

Johnny Lovo (Osgood Perkins) when he is clipped by a bullet. Even with the

to understand the crisis that was happing but not have it required by the director to

somebody who will respect every legitimate contract amongst individuals and
government.
John Locke and Thomas Hobbes each supported human instinct and government amid
the seventeenth century. John Locke advanced a hopeful perspective of human
instinct in which they lived under a legislature that ensured the privileges of the
general population; Thomas Hobbes distributed his point of view of the human soul
as negative, trusting the best way to battle its evilness by entire concealment under a
flat out ruler.Locke had a positive perspective of human instinct, respected them in a
condition of nature as animals of reason and fundamental goodwill. Locke censured
abolitionism an administration that must be in charge of and receptive to the worries

freedom, and property; the general population have the privilege to oust any

English logician from Malmesbury. He wound up plainly acclaimed when his book,
Leviathan, made the establishment of the political theory from the West. Hobbes
could collect a few acknowledgments. He was the champion of absolutism for the
sovereign. Not just that, he significantly contributed in various subjects.

Orientalism in M. Butterfly
She is petite, submissive, and great in bed, the greatest combination for the perfect
woman. Yellow fever is the psychological inclination towards Asian woman that has
been expressed by a portion of the male population. This stereotype is a part of
orientalism that continues to be discussed amongst today s society; it is deemed odd
or labeled as a fetish. M. Butterfly a Tony Award playwright written by David Henry
Hwangconsists of ideas related to orientalism through the layers developed in gender
identity, global politics and art forms. The play begins in the present 1988 with Rene

Butterfly does not reflect the complications between the U.S. and China, but certainly
depicts secret intelligence being traded among the Chinese from an outlier source,
French diplomat Rene Gallimard, who did not realize this deception from his Perfect
Woman , Song Liling. Before the full context of M. Butterfly can be explored, it is
important to establish the oriental stereotype that is expressed in the play.
Oriental women have long been fetishized into a stereotype; they are depicted as
submissive and passive, and are silenced by the double pressure from race and sex ,
Oriental woman, as Said (1979) states in Orientalism, is usually viewed ―with
sexist blinders and serves as ―the creatures of a male power fantasy and Asians as
a whole are considered to be inferior and emasculated, easy targets for exploitations
and dominance. Asian woman, always caged and subordinate both in the patriarchic
society and in the Oriental rhetoric tradition, are natural subjects for the White s
desire (Weilin).
This stereotype is still regarded in todays society. According to Prof. Dr. Opfermann

Joseph Conrad once said, It is the mark of an inexperienced man not to believe in
luck . Nailer, the main character of Paolo Bacigalupi s book Ship Breaker, wasn t
born lucky, he was born a ship breaker. Ship breakers are child and adult laborers
who spend their days starving, poor, and working away to take the anything valuable
off old ships for the big companies. Throughout Nailer s life, he has suffered through
various unfortunate events. However, with a strong belief of luckand having other
superstitions, his life becomes more manageable. In ShipBreaker, Paolo Bacigalupi
demonstrates that being superstitious and believing in various degrees of luck allows
people to more easily feel in control of uncontrollable situations. The ship... Show

This is important to realize in today s society because if believing in luck and

Superstition gave Nailer the sense of control he needed which made his life much
more satisfying at the end of the book. Therefore, Conrad s words hold true, it would

For over a year now, New York singer Halsey has been creating quite a buzz, with
her eclectic slice of R B tinged pop. This year, will see the release of her debut
studio album Badlands, which follows last year s Room 93 EP. Helmed by many
as the female equivalent of The Weeknd, Halsey has already mesmerised with the
anthemic vibes from New Americana and Ghost . Badlands will see the light of
day, come August 28th. Number Three: Foals What Went Down. Earlier this
month, UK indie rock outfit Foals announced that their new album What Went
Down will be released August 28. Along with that, they shared the record s lead

Langston Hughes story, Thank You, Ma am, Takes place late at night on a
darkened street, where life is tough. Roger is caught trying to steal a woman s
pocketbook but when an unexpected act of kindness from the woman towards a
poor boy that brings them together. As the woman cares about the boy she takes
him in to give him food and let clean his look up. The boy does not resist going to
the woman s house. The boy could really use the woman s trust in the future so in
the story, he is trying to build her trust back The theme explored in Thank You Ma
am by Langston Hughes is that when one person goes out of their way to help
another, everybody benefits from kindness. The first reason why the woman takes
care of the boy is because she cares about how the boy is treated. She brings him
home to give him food and wash his face, she says Then it will get washed tonight,

Medea Jason Character Analysis
Medea is a tragic story written by Euripides, a greek playwright, in 431 BC about a
woman who is desperate for revenge upon her husband, Jason, after he betrayed her
for another woman. Each character throughout the play shows their contradicting
personalities, particularly, Jason and Medea. Although Jasoncommitted the original
disgraceful act, his motives are sympathetic compared to Medeas egregious motives
and acts which are to blame for the death of 4 people including two children.
Medea s acts of killing King Creon, his daughter and her own two children are all
because Jason cheated on her. When Medea met Jason, she left her father, her
homeland, and every thing she knew behind her so she could blindly follow Jason.
Medea said And I myself betrayed my father and my home land, and came with you
to Pelias land of Iolcus (Euripides 16). Medea claimed that she saved Jason s life,
saying I saved your life, and every Greek knows I saved it (16). Jason seemed to feel
no remorse for cheating on Medea and doing her wrong. Medea s motive for killing
the two children of her own flesh and Jason s new wife was to make Jason feel the
pain he gave to her. Medea wanted to cut off Jason s family line.

that she is acting in a deliberate and blameworthy way. Medea accepts the blame of

Jason was sympathetic, saying Certainly exile brings many troubles with it. And

Radiation Quantity And Units Essay
Radiation quantity and units Most scientists in the international community measure
radiation using the System International (SI), a uniform system of weights and
measures that evolved from the metric system. In the United States, however, the
conventional system of measurement is still widely used.
2.2.1) Units of Radioactivity:
The original unit for measuring the amount of radioactivity was the curie (Ci) first
defined to correspond to one gram of radium 226 and more recently defined as: 1
curie = 3.7x1010 radioactive decays per second. In the International System of Units
(SI) the curie has been replaced by the Becquerel (Bq), where One Ci is equal to 37
billion (37 X 109) Bq.
Ci or Bq may be used to refer to the amount of radioactive materials released into the
environment.
2.2.2) Radiation exposure unit:
The exposure rate defined as the exposure per unit time. The special unit of exposure
is the roentgen (R) defined as the amount of gamma ray and X ray radiation that
produced a charge of 1 electrostatic unit (esu) of charge per 0.001293 g (1cm3) of dry
air at standard temperature and pressure (IAEA, 1989). The SI (stander
international) units of exposure are coulomb/Kg of dry air. 1R = 2.58 Г— 10 4 C/Kg

Sometimes also known as the physical dose, defined by the amount of energy
deposited in a unit mass in human tissue or other media. The original unit is the rad

Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
In Walt Whitman s Song of Myself, the speaker often uses I as a way to embody
individuals, or adjuncts, of society and the whole that they comprise. At other times,
the use of I appears to refer to the singular speaker, occasionally seeming to
contradict its more encompassing voice. Two particular passages from this selection
of poems employ parenthetical statements that work both to differentiate between
which I is speaking, as well as to whom he is directing his words. This manipulation
of punctuation is most notable in poems 7 and 51, the first of which the speaker
informs the audience of the immortality of all people, while the latter expresses the
brief nature of the speaker s time with the reader and addresses potential contradictory

High Renaissance and Baroque Styles The Renaissance and Baroque are two
difference styles of art, but they play an important role in the history of art. Based
on the five concepts in Wolfflin s Principles of Art History to compare and contrast
two artworks: Delivery of the Keys (about 1481 1482) by Pietro Perugino, which is
created with high Renaissance style, and Raising of the Cross (about 1610 1611) by
Peter Paul Rubensis created with Baroquestyle.
Although Delivery of the keys and Raising of the Cross are more than 100 year apart,

The issue of power will always be present, however this needs to be addressed
through building healthy trusting relationships between staff and service users and
ensuring there are adequate reporting systems should this become an issue. Staff and
service user belief and value systems can cause communication issues. It is
important to put your own beliefs and values to one side and be open minded to
others. If we rigidly place upon others our beliefs and values this will effect
communication.
When communicating with family members it is important to respect confidentiality
both from the family member and the service user. Knowing so much about a
service user over a period of 6 months can cause complacency in what staff know
about a client and where communicating with family can become controversial. I
always check out who is calling or enquiring about a client before disclosing any
information. Client confidentiality contracts are signed by service users and next of
kin is identified. Staff members also sign a confidentiality agreement to ensure there
are procedures should confidentiality be broken.
When communicating with outside agencies, issues occasionally arise. It can be
very difficult to get hold of specific people. Phone calls and/or paperwork may not
be returned. Simply marking an e mail URGENT can help. Logging any
communication between organisations can be useful as it provides evidence of calls,

Identifying War Essay
Identifying War
In order to describe what war is one has to define it. According to The Collins
Dictionary war is
1. open armed conflict between two or more parties, nations or states... 2. a
particular armed conflict: the 1973 war in Middle East. 3. the techniques of armed
conflict as a study, science, or profession. 4. and conflict or contest: the war against
crime. 5. (modifier) of, resulting from a characteristic of war: war damage; war
history.
This is obviously straight to the point, but does not go into enough detail to fully
describe what war is. Clausewitz chooses not to follow the definitions put forward

Here, force is everything that the attacking group can muster together in order to
destroy the other group s will to fight and bring a quick, decisive victory, and can
involve killing soldiers as well as destroying important buildings.
Wars are not always like this, and with the introduction of nuclear weapons, Van
Creveld believes that conventional war is effectively at its end. Also, if this Total
War was true then more groups would use nuclear weapons in order to win the war,
but they do not. This is due to mutually assured destruction and the risk of a backlash
from other nuclear powers. There has been plans to try and incorporate nuclear
weapons into conventional war, but this was unsuccessful.
When considering what is war, it is not simply a case of the use of force by the
attacking party, but one has to take in account the opposed force. Without this
opposed force it would not be war, it would simply be a massacre or perhaps
genocide. The form of opposition force, like an attackers force, can vary, whether
they respond in an offensive or defensive manner. If they are defending the war will
be restricted to their own turf and their forces concentrated on preventing attack and
protecting certain people or buildings. However, the offensive
Peculiarities And Characteristics Of MTO Companies
MTO companies typically allow consumers to purchase products that are customized
to their specifications. MTO strategy only manufactures the end product after getting
confirmation from the customers. Unlike mass production where a material is
manufactured many times, in MTO production a material is created only once
though the production process that might be repeated at a later time. As a result, the
consumer waiting time to receive the product increases but it allows more flexibility
in customization compared to purchasing from retailers shelves (Zhang et al., 2012).
According to Muda et al. (2009), MTO companies can be classified by the following
two types
(a) Companies where a small quantity of products with a large number of different
characteristics are manufactured.
(b) Companies where a product has to be assembled particularly for a sales order. As
demand for specialized products increases, the MTO strategy becomes more popular
among the companies. Nowadays, even for standard products, manufacturers are
willing to shift their production from traditional concept to MTO or a hybrid
production system to achieve shorter production cycle times (Su et al., 2010).

when she made the conversation of hair such a major part of the novel. The fact
that hair is not just hair and that the conversation surrounding it will always be a
political one. Just like Ifemulu, Bell had received the same advice in regards to

advice and still got the job despite the braids and no mention was made at all about
her hairstyle. She warned others that, We do not always need to surrender our
power to be self defining to succeed in an endeavour. Adichie vividly describes in
great detail the process in which Ifemulu goes through that relaxation process, one
that requires slathering strong chemicals onto her hair in order to permanently alter
the texture and curl pattern of her hair. Her at home attempt didn t take and so she
had to go to a professional to remedy the damage she made. Adichie
User Assistance Paper
User assistance is an important part of any product that helps to improve user
experience with a particular product. Many products that are released for global
markets require that user assistance help and documentation be translated in multiple
languages for specific target locales. This paper presents the process of optimizing
user assistance help content for translationin the following two categories: writing
suggestions and technical considerations.
Writing suggestions 1.Use a style guide. A style guide defines the grammar, syntax
and tone translators should use to facilitate a higher quality of translation and convey
the source content accurately.

Simplify the written language. To make documents clear and easy to translate, keep
headlines and sub headlines parallel. Use the same term to mean the same thing
throughout the documentation. This can be implemented through the utilization of a
source style guide and glossary.
4.Include universal units of measure. Different countries use different units of
measure. Lack of clearly defined units of measure can cause significant confusion and
costly errors. Therefore, it is important to include both metric and imperial
measurements in the documentation.
5.Include international phone and date formats. Because phone numbers and date
formats vary from region to region, these formats should be displayed correctly in
the source and translated copies of documentation. For example, in the U.S., phone
numbers are expressed as (425) 517 2577. However, international customers also
need to know the country code, which for the US is +1. Thus, displaying the phone
number as +1 425.517.2577 helps international customers. Likewise, many countries
use dd/mm/yyyy. To avoid confusion, it is necessary to indicate clearly which date
format is used or to spell out the
The Pros And Cons Of Social Media
Social media is a huge trend occurring throughout all ages of the population in
2017. In this article, there are a few examples of breaches in HIPAA. There is a
photo of a dentist, dental hygienist and a young girl posing and giving praise for
proper teeth cleaning. The photo was posted on Facebook. This causes an issue
because even though there is nothing wrong with praise, they are giving away
patient identity without consent for the whole world to see. Patient identity such as
name, birthdate and looks should kept private and in this case, it was not. Another
problem also encountered in health care is the concept of the professionals sending
patients friend requests via Facebook. Health care professionals should not have
any contact with their patients outside of the workplace. The right thing to do is
keep personal accounts confidential. Taking pictures while in an office of any health
care professional should not happen. There could be things within the office that
have the identification of other patients that should be confidential. The health care
professionals should also refrain from taking pictures because with Apple products
now a days, every picture/video taken is sent to the iCloud. Things on the iCloud
are not always safe, even if they aren t posted to any social media. If you are a
professional and take a photo but your iCloud is hacked, you can be fined with
breaching patient confidentiality without any control (Emmott, 2017). In 1996,
HIPPA came into play.

The Battle Of The Marine Raiders
Introduction to the Marine Raiders
In 1942, World War II had been raging for three years. The United States of
America have declared war upon the Axis powers following the devastating
Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor. At this point in the war the Allies are in a grave
situation. German forces have pushed the British off mainland Europe, and the
Japanese have conquered much of the Pacific region, coming increasingly nearer to
the American mainland. In order to combat this rising threat, the American military
headship began to search for viable alternatives to replace widely used established
tactics. The motive for this search for irregular methods the fact that the Allied
forces were not strong enough to meet the Axis powers on a conventional
battlefield. In December of 1941 Colonel William J. Donovan, a World War I Army
hero and presidential confidant, made a formal proposal to President Roosevelt to
create a U.S. military unit that would infiltrate occupied territory and assist
resistance groups. (Major John T. Hoffman USMCR, 3) In January of 1942, the
president s son, Captain James Roosevelt USMC wrote a letter to Major General
Thomas Holcomb, 17th Commandant of the Marine Corps, suggesting the formation
of a unit for purposes similar to those of the British Commandos and the Chinese

application has federal, state, and possible college specific deadlines. You can
inquire about deadlines here. There are two types of loans available in addition to
things like federal Pell grants. These loans are subsidized by the government, so you
won t find the same difficulties as you would applying for a normal loan. Also,
interestrates are lower. Subsidized Stafford loan A loan for which the government
pays the interest while you are in school, during grace periods, and during any
deferment periods. Unsubsidized Stafford loan A loan for which you are
responsible for paying all the interest that accrues from the date of the first
disbursement until the loan is paid in full. If you are not a US citizen or eligible
noncitizen, you cannot receive federal student aid. But there are other options that
can help pay for your schooling. State Grants Individual states also offer money for
education. States have a vested interest in educating its residents. Grants do not
necessarily have to be paid back, but they may have a service agreement attached.
My Interest Of Computer Science
My interest in Computer Science started at a young age, when I started taking
lessons in BASIC in school. As I continued my education in computer science with
COBOL, C, C++ and SQL, this interest grew into complete absorption with the
subject throughout my school years. When the time came for me to choose a major
for my undergraduate studies, I confidently opted for Computer Science which was
a full fledged passion of mine by then. During my Bachelor s, I enjoyed the
curriculum immensely, and several of the subjects I was taught like Data Structures
in which Linked List, which is a dynamic structure whose length can be increased or
decreased at runtime, was my favourite topic. Java Programming won me over when
I had to do a custom FTP server 8 years ago where the file transfer was controlled by
the server instead of being controlled by client, Database Management System taught
me about normalization of database a topic I enjoyed as it is the foundation of every
database and without which the task become arduous and can lead to data loss.
Object Oriented Systems concepts like polymorphism, inheritance, encapsulation and
abstraction were fascinating. Finally, while studying Operating Systems I understood
the importance of operating systems like Unix and Linux in today s competitive
world. In order to gain thorough knowledge of my studies, I undertook several
projects during my undergraduate studies to enhance the theoretical concepts taught
in class. Library Management

Mountains Beyond Mountains Essay.pdf

  • 1. Mountains Beyond Mountains Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "Mountains Beyond Mountains" can be a challenging yet rewarding task. This topic, derived from Tracy Kidder's book of the same name, delves into the life and work of Dr. Paul Farmer, a physician and anthropologist dedicated to providing medical care in impoverished regions. The complexity arises from the need to navigate through Farmer's intricate journey, combining elements of healthcare, social justice, and global activism. One must grapple with the intricate interplay of Farmer's personal experiences, his medical endeavors, and the broader socio-political context. Analyzing the impact of Farmer's work requires a comprehensive understanding of healthcare disparities, global health issues, and the complexities of addressing them. Crafting a well-rounded essay necessitates research into Farmer's philosophy, the challenges he faced, and the outcomes of his efforts. Furthermore, the essay should not merely recount events but should also critically engage with the underlying themes and ethical dilemmas presented in "Mountains Beyond Mountains." It calls for a nuanced exploration of Farmer's motivations, the implications of his approach, and the broader significance of his work in the realm of global health. Maintaining a coherent structure and flow is another challenge. The narrative may involve weaving together timelines, geographical contexts, and diverse characters. The writer must transition seamlessly between personal anecdotes, medical achievements, and societal reflections to provide a holistic perspective. However, despite the challenges, delving into the complexities of "Mountains Beyond Mountains" offers a unique opportunity for intellectual growth. It demands a careful balance of empathy, critical analysis, and a deep understanding of the socio-cultural landscapes depicted in the narrative. In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Mountains Beyond Mountains" requires a commitment to in- depth research, critical thinking, and the ability to synthesize multifaceted information. Yet, it is precisely this complexity that makes the task intellectually stimulating and rewarding for those who undertake it. • 2. Effects of Technological Advances From the time printed publications were the dominant medium to the modern era where the internet has emerged as the dominant medium the field of journalism has experienced colossal growth, development, and evolvement. The changes caused by the gradual introduction of new and more efficient mediums consistently affected journalismand the way journalists delivered content to the public. Prior to the concept of broadcasting, newspapers were the primary means of communication in society. Initially newspapers were a means of spreading news, usually on a local or regional level. In the times of the Civil War newspapers were used to spread news through out connected areas, in that time being the North and the South. The invention of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the ability to access content at any time and filter through content that you want at your own pace things were again changed dramatically. Journalists and all outlets of the media were forced to adapt to the changes brought on by the internet. Eventually as internet usage skyrocketed and all outlets of the media have in some way integrate into the internet. The popularity of the internet flipped the journalistic world upside down, and today anyone with their own blog can report to people on a wide scale just the same as newspapers, television, and radio. In the modern day world by linking together with satellite and internet communication, the world has finally been able to come together as one global community. The capabilities the internet has brought now allows journalists to reach people from all over the globe, which is a great change from the times of the Civil War and news being spread and created on a local and regional basis. In conclusion, it is important to consider that with each advancement in communication beginning with printed text and then to radio and television and then internet, communication throughout the world at large has increased dramatically. Throughout these advancements journalism has evolved and has remained an important part of our society. Reference Page James G. • 3. Agatha Christie Rationale LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read. I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking. I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined the audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and categorised the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I
  • 4. Imperialism In Hotel Rwanda The continent of Africa has been continually engaged in civil, tribal and cross national conflicts from colonial independence up until present day. What historians regard as the most efficient genocide in history, occurred in a mere 100 days in the small central African country of Rwanda. The Hutus and the Tutsis, two ethnic groups within Rwanda, have been at continual unrest for the past half a century. During the 100 day massacre of 1994, a murder occurred every two seconds; resulting in 18% of the Tutsi population being killed. A decade after the war, in 2004, the film Hotel Rwanda was released. The film followed the story of a Hutu man; Paul Rusesabagina as he housed over 1200 Tutsi refugees in his hotel. The Hotel De Milles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before Rwanda became an independent African run country, it was under Belgian control. In the 1930s Belgium imposed indirect rule and put Tutsis in control of government. The Belgians did not invent the two ethnic groups, Hutu and Tutsi, but colonial intervention enforced a new meaning for the two ethnicities and thus engrained a hierarchy among the Rwandans . The Tutsis could be determined by their taller slighter build, lighter skin and thinner noses; in conclusion, they were the whitest Africans . By 1994 the two groups were visibly indistinguishable because of mixed parentage. This is portrayed in the movie Hotel Rwanda when a journalist asks two women what ethnicity they are; he discovers that one is Hutu and the other Tutsi. The journalist replies that the women could be twins. In the 1950s the newly established United Nations began to pressure Belgium to vacate Rwanda. Belgium introduced reforms to increase Hutu representation in politics, so from the 1950s until 1962, when Rwanda achieved independence a Hutu movement was born. The Hutu movement was gaining momentum and national recognition; the violence conducted during this period forced thousands of Tutsis to leave the country. In 1961 Belgium sponsored the federal election and a Hutu man, Gregoire Kayibanda was elected to power. This Hutu revolution excluded Tutsis from government and military. Kayibanda s successor,

Red is a color that evokes emotion and draws the eye, so in its sporadic occurrences, one s eyes are drawn to the text in the ad and more importantly to the name of the guest star. The second design element is line. Line is used in this scene to break apart the buildings and windows within, and really focus the geometric shapes. Although the lines are soft and light in weight, aside from the outer most lines of the buildings, which are hard but still thin, they are uniform in their clear representation of the shape of the buildings and the windows. These lines depict a vertical and horizontal relationship from the dimensions of the building and windows. From the angle of the scene in discussion, the horizontal lines appear diagonal converging on each other at the corners of the buildings and windows. These converging lines at the top of the buildings demonstrate a focal point brought upon by the location of emphasis (Hemmis 2013). The lines of the building are enclosed to the achromatic background to separate them from the background and divide the pictorial space. The only lines that are curved in this scene appear in the ads and the form of the free falling man. The final element is shape. The shapes in this scene are primarily geometric. The windows and the buildings are created by the soft yet defined lines seen throughout the scene. Linear shapes are made by the convergence

The way they would go about their wealth was getting an education to learn how to think, count, information about the world, interest rates, exchange rates, and many more information that relates to dealing with money and trade. Education has always been important to create opportunities to have successful jobs and it was interesting to read that in Medieval Times education was considered more of a hobby, but to be a merchant it became less of a hobby and more of an opportunity to be well educated people and gave them a chance to be successful business men. In the US and Australia there were many significant protests undertaken by different groups of brave individuals all to invoke change. Some of the most influential protests were the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the American and Australian Freedom Rides. These protests mainly used the tactic of non violent protests however, they also used boycotts and demonstrations. These protests brought great change to the way that the African Americans were treated in the US and the Indigenous people in Australia, because it forced the public to acknowledge the hardships that they had to face from segregation. The main tactic used by civil rights activists in both Australian and the United states was non violent protests. This is when the activists would protest with methods that would not harm anybody. This was done because the civil rights activists did not want to sink down to their oppressor s level and also so that no legal action could be inflicted on the African Americancommunity. The freedom rides in the United States were perfect examples of non violent protests as the leaders of these actions would not harm anybody in the course of change. Media Based Interaction Started Long Before The Internet The study of media based interaction started long before the Internet by looking at feedback as a concept (Wiener, 1948; Shannon Weaver, 1949; Kiousis, 2002). Ultimately, online story comments online connect to the idea of feedback (Wiener, 1948; Nordlund, 1978). As it relates to digital environments people have been more likely to seek feedback online compared to those engaged in person to person conversations (Ang Cummings, 1994). In addition, feedback is one method that community media outlets could use to provide cohesive representation of the community (Lowrey, Brozana, Mackay, 2008). Synchronous and asynchronous communication In the past, there was an issue of public expectation and the consumer should not presume continuous or immediate feedback (Schudson, 1978). This partially explains why the ability to engage in interactivity has been considered one of the advantages of digital media (Morris Ogan, 1997). Immediacy within communication has not been necessary to support common action, but the ability to communicate in real time could make a digital community feel more tangible to its users (Marathe, 1999). Therefoe, a need remains to understand the differences between synchronous and asynchronous communication as it relates to digital communication. For example, synchronous communication tools because of their expectation of quicker retort can lead to additional interaction (Shirani, Tafti Affisco, 1999). Meanwhile, with asynchronous communication tools the communication can deeper and more detailed, yet there is less interaction (Shirani, Tafti Affisco, 1999). The ability to engage in synchronous communication may represent an important part of the maintenance of virtual communities (Porter, 2004). There are some websites that engage in synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid (both synchronous and asynchronous) communication (Porter, 2004). Early studies on digital interactivity suggested the immediacy of response was only part of the potential for online interactivity; there also existed the possibility for discussions to

During the process of drafting a paper, one of the things I have in mind is my audience. In order to write a good paper, it is crucial to consider the audience so you can identify how you are going to write it. For example, if you are going to write letter to your brother, it will sound weird if you use formal language. Same goes if you are writing to the Obama; it will definitely sound weird if you greet him like, how is it going, bro? It is way too informal and you cannot do this if you are writing to your leader. What I am trying to say here is it is your audience that will determine the style of your writing. Before this
  • 15. The Implementation Of International Accounting Standards INHERENT PROBLEMS. Even if uniformity were to be reached, the IOSCO disclosure standards do not encircle all of the information required of an easy access to cross border capital markets. The IOSCO plan does not cover accounting standards.(66) These standards are important for providing financial statements in a scheme that are prepared in the similar manner as those by issuers from other countries. The development of international accounting standards is the subject of a distinct project by IOSCO, and many accounting professionals who are concomitant with that undertaking are hopeful that a satisfactory solution is within reach.(67) Supposing, however, that an agreement is possible on a core set of financial standards and that they too are embraced by securities regulators as compulsory for foreign issuers, the road to commonality has at least two other impediments. The first problem derive from the flexibility that the IOSCO disclosure standards unequivocally grant to the securities regulators of the host country in a cross border share offering. These standards cogitate that the core disclosure document will undertake a minimum of tailoring to fit national requirements. (68) But the extent of national tailoring allowed under those standards could be extensive. The IOSCO standards specifically recognized that additional disclosure by foreign issuers will sometimes be essential in certain host countries because of local custom

Medea Jason Character Analysis Medea is a tragic story written by Euripides, a greek playwright, in 431 BC about a woman who is desperate for revenge upon her husband, Jason, after he betrayed her for another woman. Each character throughout the play shows their contradicting personalities, particularly, Jason and Medea. Although Jasoncommitted the original disgraceful act, his motives are sympathetic compared to Medeas egregious motives and acts which are to blame for the death of 4 people including two children. Medea s acts of killing King Creon, his daughter and her own two children are all because Jason cheated on her. When Medea met Jason, she left her father, her homeland, and every thing she knew behind her so she could blindly follow Jason. Medea said And I myself betrayed my father and my home land, and came with you to Pelias land of Iolcus (Euripides 16). Medea claimed that she saved Jason s life, saying I saved your life, and every Greek knows I saved it (16). Jason seemed to feel no remorse for cheating on Medea and doing her wrong. Medea s motive for killing the two children of her own flesh and Jason s new wife was to make Jason feel the pain he gave to her. Medea wanted to cut off Jason s family line. Jason said Medea did ... Radiation Quantity And Units Essay Radiation quantity and units Most scientists in the international community measure radiation using the System International (SI), a uniform system of weights and measures that evolved from the metric system. In the United States, however, the conventional system of measurement is still widely used. 2.2.1) Units of Radioactivity: The original unit for measuring the amount of radioactivity was the curie (Ci) first defined to correspond to one gram of radium 226 and more recently defined as: 1 curie = 3.7x1010 radioactive decays per second. In the International System of Units (SI) the curie has been replaced by the Becquerel (Bq), where One Ci is equal to 37 billion (37 X 109) Bq. Ci or Bq may be used to refer to the amount of radioactive materials released into the environment. 2.2.2) Radiation exposure unit: The exposure rate defined as the exposure per unit time. The special unit of exposure is the roentgen (R) defined as the amount of gamma ray and X ray radiation that produced a charge of 1 electrostatic unit (esu) of charge per 0.001293 g (1cm3) of dry air at standard temperature and pressure (IAEA, 1989). The SI (stander international) units of exposure are coulomb/Kg of dry air. 1R = 2.58 Г— 10 4 C/Kg in air 2.2.3) Absorbed dose unit: Sometimes also known as the physical dose, defined by the amount of energy deposited in a unit mass in human tissue or other media. The original unit is the rad [100 erg/g]; it is now being widely

At other times, the use of I appears to refer to the singular speaker, occasionally seeming to contradict its more encompassing voice. Two particular passages from this selection of poems employ parenthetical statements that work both to differentiate between which I is speaking, as well as to whom he is directing his words. Wars are not always like this, and with the introduction of nuclear weapons, Van Creveld believes that conventional war is effectively at its end. Also, if this Total War was true then more groups would use nuclear weapons in order to win the war, but they do not. This is due to mutually assured destruction and the risk of a backlash from other nuclear powers. There has been plans to try and incorporate nuclear weapons into conventional war, but this was unsuccessful. When considering what is war, it is not simply a case of the use of force by the attacking party, but one has to take in account the opposed force. Without this opposed force it would not be war, it would simply be a massacre or perhaps genocide. The form of opposition force, like an attackers force, can vary, whether they respond in an offensive or defensive manner. If they are defending the war will be restricted to their own turf and their forces concentrated on preventing attack and protecting certain people or buildings. However, the offensive

For the first time it dawns on Ifemulu that hair and employability are related and that is precisely the train of thought that Adichie wanted to address when she made the conversation of hair such a major part of the novel. The fact that hair is not just hair and that the conversation surrounding it will always be a political one. Just like Ifemulu, Bell had received the same advice in regards to wearing her hair in braids for an interview at Yale. Lack of clearly defined units of measure can cause significant confusion and costly errors. Therefore, it is important to include both metric and imperial measurements in the documentation. 5.Include international phone and date formats. Because phone numbers and date formats vary from region to region, these formats should be displayed correctly in the source and translated copies of documentation. For example, in the U.S., phone numbers are expressed as (425) 517 2577. However, international customers also need to know the country code, which for the US is +1. Thus, displaying the phone number as +1 425.517.2577 helps international customers. Likewise, many countries use dd/mm/yyyy. There is a photo of a dentist, dental hygienist and a young girl posing and giving praise for proper teeth cleaning. The photo was posted on Facebook. This causes an issue because even though there is nothing wrong with praise, they are giving away patient identity without consent for the whole world to see. Patient identity such as name, birthdate and looks should kept private and in this case, it was not. Another problem also encountered in health care is the concept of the professionals sending patients friend requests via Facebook. Health care professionals should not have any contact with their patients outside of the workplace. The right thing to do is keep personal accounts confidential. Taking pictures while in an office of any health care professional should not happen. There could be things within the office that have the identification of other patients that should be confidential. The health care professionals should also refrain from taking pictures because with Apple products now a days, every picture/video taken is sent to the iCloud. Things on the iCloud are not always safe, even if they aren t posted to any social media. If you are a professional and take a photo but your iCloud is hacked, you can be fined with breaching patient confidentiality without any control (Emmott, 2017). In 1996, HIPPA came into play.

State Grants Individual states also offer money for education. States have a vested interest in educating its residents. Grants do not necessarily have to be paid back, but they may have a service agreement attached.
