Bougainvillea is drought and pollution resistant and widely adaptable to different climates. Research institutes and universities have developed many cultivars of Bougainvillea in India due to its ornamental and commercial importance. Bougainvillea flowers are tubular with bright colored bracts that attract beneficial insects and require at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.

The flowers of bougainvillea are
hermaphrodite, tubular in shape with a
constriction in the middle & borne in cluster
of three, each flower subtended by bright
coloured bracts which helps to attract many
beneficial insects.
