1. The Mist
The Mist also known as Stephen King's The Mist, is an American science-fiction
horror film which contains a lot of horror conventions such us scary jumps, and
the mostscary partis when they werestuck inside the supermarketand can’t
get out fromthere because there were supernaturalcreatures outside. Is a
science-fiction film because it havethe supernaturalcreatureor better to say
giant insects such us giant spiders, giant bugs etc. The film is also drama
because mostof the people die.
The sound sometimes is very loud and sometimes very quiet which makes it
very scary and mysteries this is a horror convention becauseit makes you
scary. Thereis a lot of non-diegetic sound or background music to be scarier
and it builds suspense. Thereis a lot of diegetic sound as well such as the noise
that the gun makes and the supernaturalcreature noises and also dialogue
between people.
They use a lot of Long shots, closeup shots and medium shot. They useLong
shots to show everything including the background so the audience can see the
situation better this is not conventionalbecause horror films don’tusually
show the whole situation. They useclose up shots to show their facial
expressions and whatthey are thinks or if they are confused or scared etc. This
is conventional becauseis how if the character is scared and usually jump
scares useclose ups. They also use medium shots to show not only their facial
expressions also to show the gesticulations and a little bit from the
background.
The mise-en-scene. Is set in modern days also set in a supermarketwhich
makes it scary becauseis not a safeplace like home. All The people were
wearing casual clothes which doesn’tmake it conventional to horror. Is very
foggy and gloomy
Ithas a lot of low key lighting which makes it a horror film and conventional.
At the beginning there was high key lighting but how the film goes forwards
