The Importance Of Protest In Standing Rock
I personally think that arresting and the use of force on people who are protesting in Standing Rock,
is a necessary procedure if it is a reaction to unlawful situations. Reason being, just because
individuals are protesting does not mean that they are above the law. It was stated in the New York
Times article, that protesters have "set fire to wooden boards and signs and held off the line of
officers over many hours; officers have also said that protesters had attacked them with firebombs,
logs, feces and debris. The police force has acknowledged using pepper spray and beanbag rounds
against the protesters, as well as a high–pitched sound device meant to disperse crowds (Tension
Between Police and Standing Rock Protesters Boiling Point),"

Police Brutality In Today's Society
–By definition the term police brutality is "applied in the context of causing physical harm, it may
also involve psychological harm through the use of intimidation tactics beyond the scope of
officially sanctioned police procedure." In today's society we have police known as riot police, who
are known throughout the world to use extreme force. Statistics show almost every time the riot
police are involved in crowd control, there is at least one fatality and multiple injured. This is why I
believe this is one of the most important issues in the World today. Police are there to protect us but
from April 2009 to June 2010 in the United States there were 5986 reports of misconduct from
police officers. Police brutality has today's citizens doubting the police department, and how they go
about their arrest. Police brutality is an everyday occurrence, especially in cities where there are
large communities of Blacks, Latinos and Asians.

Police Donation In Dallas
In the midst of trouble, there's a whirlwind blowing in favor of law enforcement as communities
struggle and display actions to back police departments in their sworn duties to uphold peace in the
Dallas community. From high profile celebrities of sorts, to everyday neighborhood citizens, the
swell seems to be in favor of protecting innocent, law–abiding citizens, and officers of the law, as it
always has been the case in American communities in our history.
In particular, donations that have and are still coming in are going to the families of those five police
officers killed, and others injured several weeks ago, as a result of responding to ambush attacks of a
lone gunman.
One such notable news bit, as reported by the Dallas News, concerns Mark Cuban and two people
who paid $25,000 to watch a Mav's game right alongside of him. This was only a drop in the
proverbial bucket as total contributions from restaurants, lemonade stands, massive outpourings of
financial support and gifts came in from the Dallas–area and its many non–profits. ... Show more

Criminal Behavior Profiling
Criminal behavior profiling includes the assessment of a crime and analysis of a person's behavioral
and psychological characteristics to determine whether a person has committed a crime or if needs
further investigative observation is needed. Offender profiling, also known as criminal profiling
used to help investigators accurately predict and profile the characteristics of unknown criminal
subjects or offenders. Online behavioral profiling said to be used by Google and Facebook is not the
real behavioral profiling that focused on identifying a potential criminal, instead its main focused is
the user's computer related behavior and attempts to profile by identifying normal user patterns.

An Open Letter To Cop Haters
An open letter to cop haters and the media
First of all a big "Thank You" to the cops who work day and night for the safety of the people and
the society. The work cop do for the people is highly praise– worthy. Today we can walk and do
legal things without fear because of cops who make it possible for us. But there are some people
who doesn't see this and instead tell others about the danger of cops. Yes, there are some bad cops
out there who had intentionally or unintentionally taken wrong decisions and had harmed the
reputation of the police department. This doesn't mean every cops are the same.
Also, the media who focuses more on the wrongdoings of cops by making it headlines and telling
people about their rights against the law has made

Police Officer Discussion Questions
Coming from the perspective of the student, the police were overly forced and he was being arrested
for asking a question that he was called on and had the opportunity to speak freely. In this question,
he asked if the senator was a part of any secret society. In his mind, he is asking a question he feels
is important to him and the community. The question only required a simple yes or no when being
answered. Saying a side comment that was away from the microphone, so it was unclear but perhaps
what his comment was sarcastic on the lines of "see no answer must be the." With this one comment
the cops quickly rush to him and hold him on the arms with low noticeable force. The student sees
this as unnecessary for all he did was ask a question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Black Lives Matter Unit: A Social Analysis
Much of the time when I take a class in Sociology there is always a point in time where I begin to
consider how I can apply what I learn to my life in a professional setting. Although I'm not entirely
sure what I would like to pursue as a professional career, all I know is that I want to improve the
justice system. I know alone, I cannot construct change on a large scale, but what I can do, is start at
home and make minor alterations, maybe those tiny shifts could trigger change on a national scale.
The reading assignments on the Black Lives Matter unit was one of the issues that motivated me
into wanting to take action. It astonishes me when almost every day there is new news about police
brutality in our country. Instead of protecting, an

Police Brutality In The United States Of America
The topic for my final paper will be focused on police brutality. I will be using the analytical
concept of structural violence to explore how the police legitimize violence against African
Americans in the United States of America. I will be using different case studies to illustrate how the
police abuse their power and authority to discriminate against a certain race. In addition, the police
try to legitimize the violence by claiming the victim to be a 'threat'. This in turn validates the
brutality caused by the police. I will also be discussing how the media uses various strategies of
symbolic communication to create images and mobilize meanings, which legitimize police violence.
Additionally, I will be exploring how the media dehumanizes

Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr.
Along with BLM's extensive action since 2012, their coupled agenda can address the issues of
today. A movement cannot have an agenda without leaders. Martin Luther King Jr. is seen by many
as a symbol of leadership for the fight for racial equality. Local leaders and organizations of the
BLM include Black Youth Project 100, the Dream Defenders, the Organization for Black Struggle,
Hands Up United, Millennial Activists United, and the Black Lives Matter national network ("11
Major Misconceptions"). This allows for them to demonstrate that the movement is bigger than any
one person and is open to anyone who is committed to working towards freedom. Next, the
movement has an extensive agenda. Since the earliest days of the movement in ... Show more

Those who insist on talking about black–on–black crime frequently fail to acknowledge that most
crime is interracial. Ninety–three percent of black murder victims are killed by other black people.
And is it also the same for whites, eighty–four percent of white murder victims are killed by other
white people ("11 Major Misconceptions"). Those who focus on black–on–black crime use it as a
diversionary tactic to take down the BLM movement by suggesting that black people do not have
the right to be outraged about police violence in vulnerable black communities. The BLM
movement acknowledges the crime problem but refuses to locate that the crime problem is a
problem of black pathology. Black people are inherently more violent or be involved in more crime
than other groups. But black people are more disproportionately poorer, more likely to be targeted
by police and arrested, and more likely to attend poorer or failing schools ("11 Major
Misconceptions"). Nearly 90 % of documented uses of force by the Ferguson Police Department
were used on African–Americans and every documented use of a police canine bite involved
African–Americans. Blacks are more than twice as likely as white drivers to be searched during
vehicle stops even after controlling for non–race based variables such as the reason the vehicle stop
was initiated (Makarechi). In addition, these social indicators place blacks at greater risk of being a

Police Informants
To snitch or not to snitch, that is the question. For decades law enforcement agencies across the
world have used informants to help put criminals behind bars. Unfortunately, the use of informants
has had little effect on lowering crime rates in areas where crime runs rampant. In the article by
Alexandra Natapoff, titled, "Bait and Snitch: The High Cost of Snitching for Law Enforcement," she
discusses how informants do more harm than good at helping the war on crime. After doing some
research on the topic, I would have to agree with Natapoff's belief because the use of informants has
handicapped law enforcement agencies. Also, the informants themselves, are dangerous and the use
of them has negatively affected communities.
The use of informants in law enforcement has caused problems in law enforcement agencies. Police
have come to overly rely on informants to help capture criminals, and doing this has caused them to
use less more effective tactics. For instance, going undercover or doing sting operations. Some law
enforcement agencies seem to favor some informants over others, and that has caused informants to
be suspicious when working with them. In some cases, officers have even befriended their
informants and have worked together to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the informants that law enforcement agencies work with have criminal backgrounds and has
been to jail multiple times. To avoid harsh sentences or avoid going to jail entirely, criminals will
willingly provide law enforcement with information. Unfortunately, some of the information that
has been provided by the criminals have turned out to be incorrect or even made up. Allowing the
criminals to go free in exchange for information has given them no reason to want to become law–
abiding citizens. They continue to commit crimes, and some have gone on to do even more severe
ones; in some cases, this has allowed them to become high–ranking members of criminal

Police Force Research Paper
In recent discussions of police force, a controversial issue has been whether or not cops are using
too much of it. On the one hand, some argue that most people aren't looking at the bigger question:
was the situation avoidable? On the other hand, however, others argue that there is only a handful of
"less honorable" cops who use too much deadly force. In sum, then, the issue is the choice between
whether or not cops are on the citizen's sides. While many people assume that all cops are generally
too forceful towards another's race, the question most ignore is if other actions could have been
taken rather than killing another. There are two bias sides to an action: whether it was it justified or
not. Between these two differed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The small racial stimulation created an abundance of issues when, in reality, played a small role in
what really goes on. Jim Glennon, retired from the law enforcement, discusses how there are only a
small portion of "less–honorable cops" who give them all a bad name. Because these cops make the
headlines almost all the time, it creates deeper racial issues. This causes everyone to look beyond the
simple question of if the death of another could have been avoided. Glennon argues, "...cops become
cartoons, not people. Too many, we are buffoons and thugs and racists, and anyone can confirm
these biases with simple Google searches that create worlds that don't exist" (Glennon). Ultimately,
Glennon showed how many people only make their opinions based on the few things they see rather
than discussing the different actions that could have been taken, along with the officials who do the

The FBI began amassing a 600–page file on Mumia Abu–Jamal when he was a 15–year–old high

Body Cameras
Aren't you tired of not getting any justice for innocent people dying because of police? In a sample
of police departments surveyed in 2013, approximately 75 percent of them reported that they did not
use body–worn cameras. All police officers should have to wear body cameras.
Police officers have been killing and hurting people and getting away with it. In Baton Rouge, a
police officer shot a man who "had a gun". The mad had already been tased and wasn't a threat but
was shot anyway because the officer said he "attempted to reach for the gun". We don't know for

Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence
An unarmed Australian woman in her pyjamas was tragically shot late Saturday night by a
Minneapolis police officer who had only been on the force for 2 years.
Justine Ruszczyk's mistake was greeting police as you or I would in Australia, after she had reported
what sounded like a woman being sexually assaulted in the alley behind her home in Minneapolis
late Saturday night.
The 40–year–old outgoing yoga teacher and faith healer living in Minneapolis with her fiancé and
his son, leaned into the driver's window of the patrol car to address the officers who had responded
to her call for help.
Newly recruited, Minneapolis Police officer Mohamed Noor, who was sitting in the passenger side
of the vehicle, apparently saw or heard something that startled him. He impulsively drew and fired
his gun across the chest of his partner, through the window, and struck Justine in the abdomen.
After 20 minutes of frantic CPR, Justine Ruszczyk suffered a painful death from a bullet wound to
her stomach.
In 2016, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 64 cops were shot
dead. Of those 21 were shot dead in deliberate ambushes. Each time an American officer goes on
patrol, they convey the knowledge that there are roughly 265 million guns in America,
approximately one for every adult. There is potentially a gun tucked into the jeans of anyone you

The Effect Of Body Cameras On Use Of Force Incidents
Methods I wish to replicate the methodology utilized by Ariel, Farrer, and Sutherland (2015). These
researchers conducted a randomized–controlled study with the Rialto Police Department in
California. The purpose of their study was to observe the effects of body–worn cameras on the
frequency of use–of–force incidents as well as citizens' complaints. In my research study, I will test
only the effect of body–worn cameras on use–of–force incidents. I propose to study the Indianapolis
Metropolitan Police Department in Indianapolis, Indiana. This research setting is a lot larger than
Ariel, Farrer, and Sutherland's study. The Rialto Police Department covered an area of
approximately 28.5 square miles, and they served a population of approximately 100,000 residents.
IMPD covers an area of approximately 364.3 square miles, and serves approximately 824,000
residents. Rialto has 115 sworn officers whereas IMPD has 1,080 sworn officers (IMPD n.d.). I
propose to divide IMPD's six districts in half. Three districts will be the treatment group while the
other three districts will be the control group. This should be approximately 540 total officers per
group. The districts will be randomly assigned to either by a treatment or a control group, and it will
change weekly. For example, the North District may be a treatment group one week and a control
group the next week. I feel that if the department is split up and randomly assigned a group each
week that the data will be more

Body Cameras On Police Officers
Position Paper
A big controversy now a day is with police brutality. There are hundreds of people dying each day
due to some association with police officers. This position is not necessarily about who's side to
pick, it's about the use of body cameras on police officers. These cameras would solve a lot of
stories of he said she said. Especially with all the hate going around these days. People could be
lying about certain incidents and the world may never know because there is no footage between the
bystander and the officer face to face.
The cameras may offend some officers because it is like someone looking at your every move and
judging you on how to do your job. Which is totally understandable but they must look at the big
picture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People communicate to the world through social media. Maybe if the footage was released to
families of victims or to the world to remember a certain someone it will give people closure. There
are fights daily about practically nothing so imagine a murder that happened in the area. People will
talk for days about what supposedly happened and everyone will explain their opinion without
actual proof. If the police with permission from the family release the tape, people will realize they
were wrong or right about the situation and people will stop talking about it. Some situations just
need to be put to rest. Once there is stone cold proof of things, there is no reason to argue about it.
To bring up the shooting of Beal once again, what if the police had cameras at the time? There
would be no he said she said. There would be a visual and audio of what really happened. Both
stories do not make a lot of sense. There are questions from people in the neighborhood and family
but all they get is "we're investigating". I am sure that the Beal and Boxely family would approve
the footage of the incident if there were cameras because they believe he was just another victim
brutally murdered. Police officer or not, you cannot always believe what they say because they
obviously do not want to lose their job. And innocent victim or not, you cannot always believe what

Argument Against Transgender Police Profiling
Transgender Police Profiling
Police profiling is far from a thing of the past. Recent events in American society have exposed not
only racial profiling, but now discrimination and bias–based arrests on transgender individuals.
While many corrections officers believe they are doing their jobs by arresting transgender people
that they perceive as criminal or engaging in illegal activity, at times some officers take their
harrassment too far and use their force in a bias–based manor. It is the responsibility of police to
protect the rights and the safety of all citizens, and it is imperative that ALL officers in duty
understand this aspect of their job. As leaders in the community, police officers often have a large
impact on the people in the community that they serve. Negative actions towards transgender
individuals on the behalf of officers can spin off public disrespect to this population. Public
transgender figures are not shy to share their battles with discrimination. While her transition has

Complaints Against The Rcp
Over the past twelve months, there has been a number of incidents that have tarnished the image of
the RNC. The job of the police is to keep the public safe and many people that officers encounter are
partaking in illegal activities that the individual has to be punished for in hopes that they will learn
their wrongdoings and change their way of life. However, many of these people like to participate in
illegal activities and for some it's all that they know. Anybody can file a complaint about a police
officer's behaviour, attitude or action, and many people do usually in hopes of getting revenge on the
police officer for catching them engaging in prohibited activity.

According to our textbook, the RCMP external review committee is "an oversight body of the
RCMP that hears appeals from RCMP officers who have been disciplined" and the commission for
public complaints against the RCMP is known as "an independent civilian body that receives
complaints made by citizens against sworn and civilian members of the RCMP". The CPC review
many complaints each year and usually support the RCMP's final decision about the complaint. The
commission usually uses alternate dispute resolution (ADR) which involves bringing together the
complainant and the RCMP members as quickly as possible after the incident occurred in attempt to
resolves the issues.
Although there is little research on the effectiveness of the various models for responding to
complaints against the police and investigating police officer misconduct, there are ways to access
the effectiveness as stated in the textbook. Firstly, an increase of relevant complaints indicates
improved process performance. Secondly, an increase in the rate of convictions relative to
prosecutions indicates improved results performance. Thirdly, the higher the level of confidence that
the public has in the police indicates improved process and result

Children Of The Night: Online Child Prostitution
immediately. Doing this protects your children from harmful strangers and allows you to teach them
that they are vulnerable and to always be aware of people trying to hurt them. Going along with this
social media theme, it is the job of our government and websites to control online child prostitution.
For the longest time finding underage prostitutes was as easy as going onto craigslist or
backpages.com and looking through the ads. There would be ads using code words for solicitation
and underage girls all over the country would be used multiple times a night. A few years ago
craigslist's shut down its adult section and finally this year according to an article written by The

The idea that anyone would have sex with a minor or force a minor to have sex with someone is a
sickening thought. But sadly its real and its growing everyday. With the growth of social media and
the containing issue of poor and unstable homes, the list for candidates to become child prostitutes is
forever growing. And while the government can do their part and parents can try to do everything
they can to protect their children, some will still fall through the cracks and end up in the arms of a
pimp just looking to use them. It is our job as a society to do everything we can to prevent this act
from occurring. Everything from volunteering to reporting what you see either on the streets or
online is crucial to the success of preventing this terrible act. And while it will never be fully
stopped it can be hit hard. We as a society can make a difference by making it known just how
ramped this disease really is. And even if you can't stop it from happening, helping just one girl out
of the horrible life she lives can make all the difference in the world. One step at a time and
eventually we all may be able to live in a world where child prostitution is something we rarely see

Essay On Police Misconduct
The Battle of Police Misconduct
The war on crime fought on the streets is far too often waged against innocent individuals unaware
of, or intimidated into surrendering their constitutional rights. Police officers often make bad
judgment calls on a possible offender and resort to using more force than needed. With the two
parties involved in the situation, misunderstandings of communication play's a major role in why
police misconduct is becoming more and more of an issue. As minority citizens are victims of police
brutality on a daily basis, it does not stop there. The juveniles and lower class citizens are also
victims of excessive force. Even we could be a victim. It is important to pay as much attention as
possible to social issues including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From April 2009 to June 2010, 23.3% of the 2,541 reports of police misconduct were only police
brutality, and 13% of the police brutality reports were fatalities (Freeman, 2011).
Police brutality, also known as police use of excessive force, is different from reasonable force.
Furthermore, some individuals think that police brutality should be used to control the crimes and
illegal acts, but I am totally against police brutality. It violates the trust between the public,
MONTOYA 2 police officers, and the law. Police officers have more powers than the average
citizen; they have the power to arrest, seize property, and use deadly force. Many officers have
abused these powers, and when they do, you would think they would be fired and prosecuted, right?
Wrong.
In most of these cases, officers have only been suspended or given probation, this seems like a
minor punishment for such an unjustifiable crime. Police officers have gotten above the law and are
now able to abuse their powers as they wish.
For example, in the Northern District of Georgia, in which Atlanta is located, federal prosecutors
declined to prosecute nearly 80 percent of police brutality cases. At the heart

How To Write An Essay On Police Brutality
Police Brutality
White police officers are infamous for using excess force towards young African–American
especially in larger cities such as Chicago. It has become a controversial topic among communities
that have seen police brutality take place in front of their homes.$1,800,000,000 is estimated to be
the annual cost of police misconduct to taxpayers. Although the misconduct isn't strictly towards
police brutality, $1,800,000,000 is incredibly outrageous. There may be a reason to why African–
Americans seem to be targeted by police officers. Many believe this could be a sign that racism has
been institutionalized in our police force across the nation.
Usually the high crime rates tend to occur around low–income areas and officers tend to assume that
people living in the areas are guilty. It is not fair to judge the minority. If the officer is knowing that
the suspect is known to be violent and heavily armed, that's when excessive force can be justified
and if the suspect disobeys all commanding orders from a officer. Fact is many reports of Police
Brutality is not reported. About 61% of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

towards blacks. We just spread it around creating chaos and shining light to one specific crime.
When was the last you heard of police brutality towards a white person? Im positive there has been
some within last year but no one brings it up since people believe others are racists. Morgan
Freeman brought up an interesting solution for racism. "Don't bring it up." If we are no longer

The Dangers Of Firefighters
Firefighters are killed and injured at incidents that are not initially reported as violent, so it is
important to always expect the worst when responding to an incident (Ford, 2012). It is impossible
to think of all the dangers that a responder will encounter at an emergency scene. Emergency
responders will respond to scene where there is a potential for violence due to the nature of the call,
and they may even respond to a call where violence was premeditated and meant for the responders.
There has been an increase in the number of line of duty deaths and serious injuries of firefighters
due to violence (Ford, 2012). Safety summits have been held to discuss these incidents and have
resulted in recommendations for responding to violent

Should Police Officers Wear Body Cameras Essay
Police officers are the people who protect the community. Lately we had a couple pf incidents with
police officers and citizens. Many citizens are now freighted by police officers. We have some
citizens who do attacks against police officers, causing the loss of innocent lives. Police officers
should be required to wear body cameras because the videos could be used for evidence at trial, and
police officers can look back at the videos to evaluate themselves. One reason police officers should
wear body cameras is to be able to use the videos as evidence. Many cases cannot be resolve due to
lack of evidence and the death of citizens in the hands of police officers. Lately we had many
incidents were citizens were killed by police officers, and there is not enough proof if this ... Show

Some opponents believe body cameras are too expensive and it creates financial problems to the
police department. As a community everyone should volunteer to buy the body cameras for police
officers. In addition, some people believe that the files will not have a way to store to keep for
evidence. Technology is very advance now police can transfer files immediately to a USB device if
they need more storage on their camera. Body cameras will save many peoples life's including
police officers. Although others are in favor of body cameras, they will save a lot of innocent lives,
including the citizens, and police officers.
Police officers should start wearing body cameras. Wearing body cameras will help police officer
evaluate themselves. Police officers have many situations and need feedback to make changes to
their attitude and comprehensive skills. The videos gather by the body cameras police officers wear

Police Contaliality : The Problem Of Police Brutality
Police Brutality needs to be addressed because sometimes police use too much force on suspects
when there is no reason too. Most police brutality goes unreported due to suspects being afraid to
speak up. Most police misconduct is making untrue statements and filing untrue reports. Some
police think that citizens should always defer to them and their authority. Most suspects believe that
they do not need to do what is asked of a police officer and that leads to police misconduct.
Younger officers usually tend to be more aggressive to suspects because they think they have
something bigger to prove. Younger suspects that have charges on their records tend to try and run
or harm the police officer because they think they have a better chance ... Show more content on

brutality cases are directed to minority groups, even though there is a lot of cases that deal with
older people, younger suspects are usually the ones that cops put the most force on. Most police
brutality is directed towards younger minority groups due to younger suspects being less
cooperative with police and being disrespectful. Black suspects are twice more likely to be unarmed
and killed than white suspects. Native Americans are just as likely to be involved in police brutality
as black suspects. 32% of black suspects are killed from a police meanwhile 15% white people are
killed by police. 25% of hispanics in the world are killed by police. Most races other than white are
killed by police just because police take their race as a bigger threat. In 2011, 5.1 million american
indians and alaska natives were discovered to live in the US. Black officers are more likely to fire
their weapon than white because they feel as if they have a bad reputation and think people are out
to get them. Around 4.5 million black americans live in the U.S. Police brutality and misconduct are

Police Brutality: From Their Side Lately, there has been a lot news on police brutality. All the
citizens hear about is the person that is supposedly the victim. Yet, till this day, I still have not heard
the side from the police force. Media gets out faster than the facts. Media is no longer based on

all of them are. Most of them aren't terrible. Their human just like we are. Some assume the people

In my opinion, people just research what people do, and who they are. Society should learn what
police officers do everyday on the force. They should walk a few steps in their shoes, and see how it
feels. The bad cops do the wrong thing and it's the good cops that take the repercussions. If you
interviewed a normal police officer, and spend the whole day with them, then you would see the
pressure of being on the force takes. Every profession has its bad seeds. For example doctors who
kill their patient so they can sell their organs on the black market for more money. Or politicians,
they are supposed to represent our country but we still had some bad politicians and dirty scandals.
There are many more professions that have people who do bad things, but we don't hear about
unless a minority starts speaking about it. It shouldn't matter who you are, people should listen to
what you have to say when you are in need. Media has blown many things out of proportion and
now everyone believes what is said, because it was on television. There are millions of police
officers in this country, but we judge them because of the hundred that are bad. Society needs to
learn that they need to research before they take an opinion on it. Sure the videos that the media
shows show a cop taking a kid down, but do they tell us why. No, all they say is look at this terrible
officer taking a kid down. People need to realize that

How To Kill Police Officers
The most important issue that seems to worry me as of late is the killing of police officers in various
states. It just shows that this generation neither respects the laws of the land nor the officers who
have sworn to uphold them. The social media outlets also do not help the situations; in fact, they
make them even worse. All these heinous events seem to occur as a result of all the police brutalities
that being portrayed on the evening news. While there may be some truth to some of the allegations,
killing police officers does not justify the dead; in fact, it places the public in even greater danger.

However, what some don't know is that assaults on first responders are happening across the nation

among EMS workers is 0.6 cases per 100 workers a year; the national average is about 1.8 per
10,000 workers. The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) found 4/5

Most strikes on EMS professionals include unarmed assaults (punches, kicks, grabs, and so forth.).
According to a source, at least once a day in the city of Chicago paramedics are assaulted once a
day. ABC Local reported that there is currently no paramedic self–defense training for Chicago
paramedics and this department is hardly an outlier. With assaults against first responders rising,
there should be new training requirements necessary. Escape should always be the goal of the
assaulted EMS practitioner. Training offers first responders the ability to learn proper responses to
better stay away from a situation that will cause injury. Self–defense training includes skills such as
awareness, assertiveness, verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques that
enable someone to successfully escape, resist, and survive violent attacks. With the skills learned
from them classes, first responders will learn how to successfully deal with aggressive patients or
bystanders by using all the skills they learned from the courses. Departments need to create policies
to cover these circumstances and guarantee that their work force receives defensive tactics
particularly for those who work into high–risks areas. Protective Gear Departments should also
provide defensive tools such as pepper spray, bulletproof or stab–proof vests for

Examples Of Police Militarization
It has become more prevalent in recent times of discussion to look at the increase in militarization of
police forces. The term police militarization often brings with it a stigma on the social aspect which
revolves around brutality and a lack of rights. One must ask first what is defined as police
militarization. Police militarization or to militarize is defined as "Give (something, especially an
organization) a military character or style." This means that police militarization in essence is the
conversion from the beat cop into a police force that is organized and managed under a military
model. A militaristic model is seen as being focused on solving problems through the use of force as
the best solution. With that in mind we are now able to identify police departments that are
organized under these beliefs. Through the observations of the culture, organization, and material
aspects one could safely gather the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the idea is to go back in with officers who are more oriented in community policing. The
problem with this tactic is that it is hard for a lot of the departments to understand when the proper
time is to take out the tactical teams and insert the community teams. One of the perceived negative
impacts of this culture involving militarization state the possibility that it forces officers into
believing that they are to treat the people they serve as enemy combatants. Militarization of policing
encourages officers to adopt a "warrior" mentality and think of people the people they are supposed
to serve as enemies (ACLU 2). It is important to keep those ideals in check in order to prevent
hostilities that prevent a department from adequately communicating with its

Essay On Police Legitimacy
Police legitimacy is composed of two elements: trust and acceptance of authority. The public needs
to know they can trust the police officers. We have to know if they are honest and are really
concerned with our well–being, which would lead to respect and accepting their directives knowing
it is for our own well–being or the neighborhood's. I personally experience both sides of this
concept, due to my residential situation, as I live both in El Paso and Juarez. In El Paso I truly trust
the police officers that I have encountered, but I cannot say the same about the Juarez police
officers. In Juarez many police officers are corrupt and do not care about our well–being. I'm not
saying that in El Paso they all do, but their authority is more accepted by its community. Procedural
justice is a concept that affects the most how people feel around police officers. It encompasses the
police officers' discretion to apply their authority in fair ways. The outcomes of the experiences of
the public with police officers, do not influence them as much ... Show more content on

In Juarez, police officers stop you without even reasonable suspicion, which sometimes leads to an
arrest that could not have taken place, without the illegal stop. This misconduct alters my perception
into thinking that every police officer in Juarez engages in this type of activity. Witnessing or
experiencing a police officer engaging in incorrect procedures, makes the public increase their legal
cynicism; if police officers do not abide by the established guidelines , they do not care about the
community, so the government does not care about the community either. Also, the responsiveness
of police officers affects the community's perception of procedural justice and legitimacy. For
example young people, mostly perceive police officers to be engaging in over policing maybe based
on their race, beliefs, or social status, which they see as

The Importance Of Protest In Standing Rock

  • 1. The Importance Of Protest In Standing Rock I personally think that arresting and the use of force on people who are protesting in Standing Rock, is a necessary procedure if it is a reaction to unlawful situations. Reason being, just because individuals are protesting does not mean that they are above the law. It was stated in the New York Times article, that protesters have "set fire to wooden boards and signs and held off the line of officers over many hours; officers have also said that protesters had attacked them with firebombs, logs, feces and debris. The police force has acknowledged using pepper spray and beanbag rounds against the protesters, as well as a high–pitched sound device meant to disperse crowds (Tension Between Police and Standing Rock Protesters Boiling Point)," ... • 3. Police Brutality In Today's Society –By definition the term police brutality is "applied in the context of causing physical harm, it may also involve psychological harm through the use of intimidation tactics beyond the scope of officially sanctioned police procedure." In today's society we have police known as riot police, who are known throughout the world to use extreme force. Statistics show almost every time the riot police are involved in crowd control, there is at least one fatality and multiple injured. This is why I believe this is one of the most important issues in the World today. Police are there to protect us but from April 2009 to June 2010 in the United States there were 5986 reports of misconduct from police officers. Police brutality has today's citizens doubting the police department, and how they go about their arrest. Police brutality is an everyday occurrence, especially in cities where there are large communities of Blacks, Latinos and Asians. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Police Donation In Dallas In the midst of trouble, there's a whirlwind blowing in favor of law enforcement as communities struggle and display actions to back police departments in their sworn duties to uphold peace in the Dallas community. From high profile celebrities of sorts, to everyday neighborhood citizens, the swell seems to be in favor of protecting innocent, law–abiding citizens, and officers of the law, as it always has been the case in American communities in our history. In particular, donations that have and are still coming in are going to the families of those five police officers killed, and others injured several weeks ago, as a result of responding to ambush attacks of a lone gunman. One such notable news bit, as reported by the Dallas News, concerns Mark Cuban and two people who paid $25,000 to watch a Mav's game right alongside of him. This was only a drop in the proverbial bucket as total contributions from restaurants, lemonade stands, massive outpourings of financial support and gifts came in from the Dallas–area and its many non–profits. ... Criminal Behavior Profiling Criminal behavior profiling includes the assessment of a crime and analysis of a person's behavioral and psychological characteristics to determine whether a person has committed a crime or if needs further investigative observation is needed. Offender profiling, also known as criminal profiling used to help investigators accurately predict and profile the characteristics of unknown criminal subjects or offenders. Online behavioral profiling said to be used by Google and Facebook is not the real behavioral profiling that focused on identifying a potential criminal, instead its main focused is the user's computer related behavior and attempts to profile by identifying normal user patterns. The work cop do for the people is highly praise– worthy. Today we can walk and do legal things without fear because of cops who make it possible for us. But there are some people who doesn't see this and instead tell others about the danger of cops. Yes, there are some bad cops out there who had intentionally or unintentionally taken wrong decisions and had harmed the reputation of the police department. This doesn't mean every cops are the same. Also, the media who focuses more on the wrongdoings of cops by making it headlines and telling people about their rights against the law has made ... Police Officer Discussion Questions Coming from the perspective of the student, the police were overly forced and he was being arrested for asking a question that he was called on and had the opportunity to speak freely. In this question, he asked if the senator was a part of any secret society. In his mind, he is asking a question he feels is important to him and the community. The question only required a simple yes or no when being answered. Saying a side comment that was away from the microphone, so it was unclear but perhaps what his comment was sarcastic on the lines of "see no answer must be the." With this one comment the cops quickly rush to him and hold him on the arms with low noticeable force. The student sees this as unnecessary for all he did was ask a question ... Black Lives Matter Unit: A Social Analysis Much of the time when I take a class in Sociology there is always a point in time where I begin to consider how I can apply what I learn to my life in a professional setting. Although I'm not entirely sure what I would like to pursue as a professional career, all I know is that I want to improve the justice system. I know alone, I cannot construct change on a large scale, but what I can do, is start at home and make minor alterations, maybe those tiny shifts could trigger change on a national scale. The reading assignments on the Black Lives Matter unit was one of the issues that motivated me into wanting to take action. • 15. Police Brutality In The United States Of America The topic for my final paper will be focused on police brutality. I will be using the analytical concept of structural violence to explore how the police legitimize violence against African Americans in the United States of America. I will be using different case studies to illustrate how the police abuse their power and authority to discriminate against a certain race. In addition, the police try to legitimize the violence by claiming the victim to be a 'threat'. This in turn validates the brutality caused by the police. I will also be discussing how the media uses various strategies of symbolic communication to create images and mobilize meanings, which legitimize police violence. Additionally, I will be exploring how the media dehumanizes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr. Along with BLM's extensive action since 2012, their coupled agenda can address the issues of today. A movement cannot have an agenda without leaders. Martin Luther King Jr. is seen by many as a symbol of leadership for the fight for racial equality. Local leaders and organizations of the BLM include Black Youth Project 100, the Dream Defenders, the Organization for Black Struggle, Hands Up United, Millennial Activists United, and the Black Lives Matter national network ("11 Major Misconceptions"). This allows for them to demonstrate that the movement is bigger than any one person and is open to anyone who is committed to working towards freedom. Next, the movement has an extensive agenda. Those who insist on talking about black–on–black crime frequently fail to acknowledge that most crime is interracial. Ninety–three percent of black murder victims are killed by other black people. And is it also the same for whites, eighty–four percent of white murder victims are killed by other white people ("11 Major Misconceptions"). Those who focus on black–on–black crime use it as a diversionary tactic to take down the BLM movement by suggesting that black people do not have the right to be outraged about police violence in vulnerable black communities. The BLM movement acknowledges the crime problem but refuses to locate that the crime problem is a problem of black pathology. Black people are inherently more violent or be involved in more crime than other groups. But black people are more disproportionately poorer, more likely to be targeted by police and arrested, and more likely to attend poorer or failing schools ("11 Major Misconceptions"). Nearly 90 % of documented uses of force by the Ferguson Police Department were used on African–Americans and every documented use of a police canine bite involved African–Americans. Blacks are more than twice as likely as white drivers to be searched during vehicle stops even after controlling for non–race based variables such as the reason the vehicle stop was initiated (Makarechi). • 19. Police Informants To snitch or not to snitch, that is the question. For decades law enforcement agencies across the world have used informants to help put criminals behind bars. Unfortunately, the use of informants has had little effect on lowering crime rates in areas where crime runs rampant. In the article by Alexandra Natapoff, titled, "Bait and Snitch: The High Cost of Snitching for Law Enforcement," she discusses how informants do more harm than good at helping the war on crime. After doing some research on the topic, I would have to agree with Natapoff's belief because the use of informants has handicapped law enforcement agencies. Also, the informants themselves, are dangerous and the use of them has negatively affected communities. The use of informants in law enforcement has caused problems in law enforcement agencies. Police have come to overly rely on informants to help capture criminals, and doing this has caused them to use less more effective tactics. For instance, going undercover or doing sting operations. Some law enforcement agencies seem to favor some informants over others, and that has caused informants to be suspicious when working with them. • 21. Police Force Research Paper In recent discussions of police force, a controversial issue has been whether or not cops are using too much of it. On the one hand, some argue that most people aren't looking at the bigger question: was the situation avoidable? On the other hand, however, others argue that there is only a handful of "less honorable" cops who use too much deadly force. In sum, then, the issue is the choice between whether or not cops are on the citizen's sides. While many people assume that all cops are generally too forceful towards another's race, the question most ignore is if other actions could have been taken rather than killing another. There are two bias sides to an action: whether it was it justified or not. Between these two differed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The small racial stimulation created an abundance of issues when, in reality, played a small role in what really goes on. Jim Glennon, retired from the law enforcement, discusses how there are only a small portion of "less–honorable cops" who give them all a bad name. Because these cops make the headlines almost all the time, it creates deeper racial issues. This causes everyone to look beyond the simple question of if the death of another could have been avoided. Glennon argues, "...cops become cartoons, not people. Too many, we are buffoons and thugs and racists, and anyone can confirm these biases with simple Google searches that create worlds that don't exist" (Glennon). Ultimately, Glennon showed how many people only make their opinions based on the few things they see rather than discussing the different actions that could have been taken, along with the officials who do the ... • 32. Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence An unarmed Australian woman in her pyjamas was tragically shot late Saturday night by a Minneapolis police officer who had only been on the force for 2 years. Justine Ruszczyk's mistake was greeting police as you or I would in Australia, after she had reported what sounded like a woman being sexually assaulted in the alley behind her home in Minneapolis late Saturday night. The 40–year–old outgoing yoga teacher and faith healer living in Minneapolis with her fiancé and his son, leaned into the driver's window of the patrol car to address the officers who had responded to her call for help. Newly recruited, Minneapolis Police officer Mohamed Noor, who was sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle, apparently saw or heard something that startled him. He impulsively drew and fired his gun across the chest of his partner, through the window, and struck Justine in the abdomen. After 20 minutes of frantic CPR, Justine Ruszczyk suffered a painful death from a bullet wound to her stomach. In 2016, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 64 cops were shot dead. Of those 21 were shot dead in deliberate ambushes. Each time an American officer goes on patrol, they convey the knowledge that there are roughly 265 million guns in America, approximately one for every adult. These researchers conducted a randomized–controlled study with the Rialto Police Department in California. The purpose of their study was to observe the effects of body–worn cameras on the frequency of use–of–force incidents as well as citizens' complaints. In my research study, I will test only the effect of body–worn cameras on use–of–force incidents. I propose to study the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in Indianapolis, Indiana. This research setting is a lot larger than Ariel, Farrer, and Sutherland's study. The Rialto Police Department covered an area of approximately 28.5 square miles, and they served a population of approximately 100,000 residents. IMPD covers an area of approximately 364.3 square miles, and serves approximately 824,000 residents. Rialto has 115 sworn officers whereas IMPD has 1,080 sworn officers (IMPD n.d.). I propose to divide IMPD's six districts in half. Three districts will be the treatment group while the other three districts will be the control group. This should be approximately 540 total officers per group. The districts will be randomly assigned to either by a treatment or a control group, and it will change weekly. For example, the North District may be a treatment group one week and a control group the next week. I feel that if the department is split up and randomly assigned a group each week that the data will be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Body Cameras On Police Officers Position Paper A big controversy now a day is with police brutality. There are hundreds of people dying each day due to some association with police officers. This position is not necessarily about who's side to pick, it's about the use of body cameras on police officers. These cameras would solve a lot of stories of he said she said. Especially with all the hate going around these days. People could be lying about certain incidents and the world may never know because there is no footage between the bystander and the officer face to face. The cameras may offend some officers because it is like someone looking at your every move and judging you on how to do your job. Which is totally understandable but they must look at the big picture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People communicate to the world through social media. Maybe if the footage was released to families of victims or to the world to remember a certain someone it will give people closure. There are fights daily about practically nothing so imagine a murder that happened in the area. People will talk for days about what supposedly happened and everyone will explain their opinion without actual proof. If the police with permission from the family release the tape, people will realize they were wrong or right about the situation and people will stop talking about it. Some situations just need to be put to rest. Once there is stone cold proof of things, there is no reason to argue about it. To bring up the shooting of Beal once again, what if the police had cameras at the time? There would be no he said she said. There would be a visual and audio of what really happened. Both stories do not make a lot of sense. There are questions from people in the neighborhood and family but all they get is "we're investigating". I am sure that the Beal and Boxely family would approve the footage of the incident if there were cameras because they believe he was just another victim brutally murdered. There has been controversy stemming from police officers, and everyone seems to have an opinion about whether or not all cops are racist, or if all cops are murderers. Being raised by a man who's only known law enforcement his entire life, I have a few opinions of my own. My father has been a police officer for 20 years this November. Recent events in American society have exposed not only racial profiling, but now discrimination and bias–based arrests on transgender individuals.
