Evaluation question 4
How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages?
During the steps of our research and planning,
construction and evaluation we used various
software, hardware and websites to help us
achieve the best music video, advert and
digipak.
Websites that were used, were used for
presentations, to show our editing processes
and blogging about our progress.
Research and Planning
For things like the audience research we needed
to find out exactly we were aiming our genre of
music, advert, digipak, etc. so we needed to find
out the exact demographics of our audience and
what social class they were under.
Music websites
I looked at YouTube and Vevo for this part and
found out about their individual histories and by
looking at this we found out that our artist has
various audiences and not just the stereotypical
one. It also helped us discover new ideas for our
music video.
Demographics
I needed to find out
demographics and
psychographics of
our target audiences
and we used blogger
to post the results of
the questionnaire
which included
questions about age,
class, occupation,
likes, dislikes, etc.
Cameras
Cameras were used for the interviews which we
conducted with the target audience. We used
YouTube to get screenshots of examples of
music videos which we had taken inspiration
from and to display the theme we were going to
use for our music video. We also used the
camera to interview a focus group and we used
a microphone as well so it’ll be clear what they
were saying.
We used various modes of technology for our
research and planning which included
interviewing focus groups which we recorded to
document our feedback of the responses. We
used a Nikon D5100 camera and the quality was
excellent. We used an SD card to record so it
was easy to transfer the data to a computer and
edit it
We used YouTube to show the recording of the
focus groups and to take screenshots of videos
which gave us inspiration and contributed to our
ideas.
Sony Vegas
Sony Vegas was on of the main contributing
factors to this project and we used all of its tools
when it came to editing the focus group videos
which we recorded. It was very simple editing
and it included cutting few scenes down and
adding transitions and text box to show the
questions we were asking.
Internet websites
We used various websites to gather the
necessary information which we used during
research and planning. Blogger, Prezi and slide
share were the main platforms which we used
to document our work; we also made use of
google and YouTube.
Computers and phones
We used these for all stages but in the case of this we
used a computer to access things like google, blogger,
Prezi, slide share, YouTube, etc.
This contributed to our research and planning which also
helped in the construction and evaluation aspects
because it helped us find out about our genre, document
our progress, find information about our chosen
artist/song of choice and to post our posts and find out
what the audience thinks.
We made use of phones if computers weren't available
to do things like google locations, input dates into
calendars, make mini videos, call other group members,
etc.
Construction
We used Sony Vegas to a very large extent for
research and planning but its main use was
actually for this. Because it is most important in
the construction stage for editing our music
video.
We were advised that Sony Vegas was the best
way to edit our music video to the best quality
because it was sectioned off into its different
uses:
Adding the song
The video
The music
Filters
Rendering of our video was another tool we had
to make use of when we used Sony Vegas
because it enabled us to get it to its best quality
and for it to be synced properly to produce the
best video.
We made use of filters which enabled us to
emphasize particular scenes, ad enigma and
overall make it look its best. We used things like
b/w filter to differentiate between the present
and the future.
Sony Vegas is one of the main factors which
helped us in the editing process because of its
various features which used to optimum level.
Photoshop
Photoshop is another tool which contributed to
the construction stage and although we didn’t
use this for our music video, we used it for both
the digipak and advert.
This is what we used to adjust the colour and
brightness of pictures and fonts.
This is what we used to change
different things in different layers.
And this has added extra detail to
our digipak.
Digipak advert process
This is the digipak
editing process of the
advert which was made
using Photoshop and
the same thing was
done with the digipak
but different pictures
and fonts.
Cameras
We used a Nikon D5100 and this camera used
an SD card which was fairly easy to extract and
put onto a computer. We also made use of a
tripod to support the camera when we wanted
still shots. It was a rechargeable battery device
which was good because we always had a spare
battery pack in case the other died.
Lighting
For the lighting in our film, it wasn’t a difficult
task because it was a nice sunny day in Hyde
Park and there was a lot of natural lighting.
When we filmed the performance scenes we
had to make use of a spotlight to demonstrate
the focus which we need on Tosin.
Phones
We mainly used these to communicate with
other group members and actors/actresses to
find out where we were and when we would
film. We also used them to document our
progress, but we didn’t use it to film anything.
Evaluation
At this stage we used all the other platforms
which we had already used to publish our work
and research and planning like Blogger, Prezi,
Slide share, YouTube, Google, etc.
We made use of computers and voice recorders
at this stage
Blogger
We used this to post all our work on a single
platform.
Prezi
We used Prezi to create interactive PowerPoints
allowing our presentations to be more
enjoyable.
Slide share
We used this to an alternative to Prezi and it
was another way to demonstrate presentations.
YouTube
This was used to post the final music video so
that we could receive feedback from the
audience.
Google
We used this to do research which was
necessary for the evaluation process.
Conclusion
To conclude this evaluation question there were
many different technologies involved in the
research and planning, construction and
evaluation stages. They were also needed to
produce a good music video, advert and digipak
of high quality.

Evaluation question 4

  • 1. Evaluation question 4 How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
  • 2. During the steps of our research and planning, construction and evaluation we used various software, hardware and websites to help us achieve the best music video, advert and digipak. Websites that were used, were used for presentations, to show our editing processes and blogging about our progress.
  • 3. Research and Planning For things like the audience research we needed to find out exactly we were aiming our genre of music, advert, digipak, etc. so we needed to find out the exact demographics of our audience and what social class they were under.
  • 4. Music websites I looked at YouTube and Vevo for this part and found out about their individual histories and by looking at this we found out that our artist has various audiences and not just the stereotypical one. It also helped us discover new ideas for our music video.

  • 6. Demographics I needed to find out demographics and psychographics of our target audiences and we used blogger to post the results of the questionnaire which included questions about age, class, occupation, likes, dislikes, etc.
  • 7. Cameras Cameras were used for the interviews which we conducted with the target audience. We used YouTube to get screenshots of examples of music videos which we had taken inspiration from and to display the theme we were going to use for our music video. We also used the camera to interview a focus group and we used a microphone as well so it’ll be clear what they were saying.
  • 8. We used various modes of technology for our research and planning which included interviewing focus groups which we recorded to document our feedback of the responses. We used a Nikon D5100 camera and the quality was excellent. We used an SD card to record so it was easy to transfer the data to a computer and edit it
  • 9. We used YouTube to show the recording of the focus groups and to take screenshots of videos which gave us inspiration and contributed to our ideas.
  • 10. Sony Vegas Sony Vegas was on of the main contributing factors to this project and we used all of its tools when it came to editing the focus group videos which we recorded. It was very simple editing and it included cutting few scenes down and adding transitions and text box to show the questions we were asking.
  • 11. Internet websites We used various websites to gather the necessary information which we used during research and planning. Blogger, Prezi and slide share were the main platforms which we used to document our work; we also made use of google and YouTube.
  • 12. Computers and phones We used these for all stages but in the case of this we used a computer to access things like google, blogger, Prezi, slide share, YouTube, etc. This contributed to our research and planning which also helped in the construction and evaluation aspects because it helped us find out about our genre, document our progress, find information about our chosen artist/song of choice and to post our posts and find out what the audience thinks. We made use of phones if computers weren't available to do things like google locations, input dates into calendars, make mini videos, call other group members, etc.
  • 13. Construction We used Sony Vegas to a very large extent for research and planning but its main use was actually for this. Because it is most important in the construction stage for editing our music video.
  • 14. We were advised that Sony Vegas was the best way to edit our music video to the best quality because it was sectioned off into its different uses: Adding the song The video The music Filters
  • 15. Rendering of our video was another tool we had to make use of when we used Sony Vegas because it enabled us to get it to its best quality and for it to be synced properly to produce the best video.
  • 16. We made use of filters which enabled us to emphasize particular scenes, ad enigma and overall make it look its best. We used things like b/w filter to differentiate between the present and the future.
  • 17. Sony Vegas is one of the main factors which helped us in the editing process because of its various features which used to optimum level.
  • 18. Photoshop Photoshop is another tool which contributed to the construction stage and although we didn’t use this for our music video, we used it for both the digipak and advert.
  • 19. This is what we used to adjust the colour and brightness of pictures and fonts. This is what we used to change different things in different layers. And this has added extra detail to our digipak.
  • 20. Digipak advert process This is the digipak editing process of the advert which was made using Photoshop and the same thing was done with the digipak but different pictures and fonts.
  • 21. Cameras We used a Nikon D5100 and this camera used an SD card which was fairly easy to extract and put onto a computer. We also made use of a tripod to support the camera when we wanted still shots. It was a rechargeable battery device which was good because we always had a spare battery pack in case the other died.
  • 22. Lighting For the lighting in our film, it wasn’t a difficult task because it was a nice sunny day in Hyde Park and there was a lot of natural lighting. When we filmed the performance scenes we had to make use of a spotlight to demonstrate the focus which we need on Tosin.
  • 23. Phones We mainly used these to communicate with other group members and actors/actresses to find out where we were and when we would film. We also used them to document our progress, but we didn’t use it to film anything.
  • 24. Evaluation At this stage we used all the other platforms which we had already used to publish our work and research and planning like Blogger, Prezi, Slide share, YouTube, Google, etc. We made use of computers and voice recorders at this stage
  • 25. Blogger We used this to post all our work on a single platform.
  • 26. Prezi We used Prezi to create interactive PowerPoints allowing our presentations to be more enjoyable.
  • 27. Slide share We used this to an alternative to Prezi and it was another way to demonstrate presentations.
  • 28. YouTube This was used to post the final music video so that we could receive feedback from the audience.
  • 29. Google We used this to do research which was necessary for the evaluation process.
  • 30. Conclusion To conclude this evaluation question there were many different technologies involved in the research and planning, construction and evaluation stages. They were also needed to produce a good music video, advert and digipak of high quality.
