My Observation Of A Elementary School Classroom
Elementary school classrooms should be vibrant, inviting, and interactive. My first observation was in a second–grade classroom, followed by an
observation in a third–grade classroom. I observed classrooms at East Haddam Elementary School from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. on the 12th of October. I
spent two hours in each classroom. There were seventeen students in the second–grade classroom, eight boys and nine girls, and one teacher, Mrs.
Caron. In the third–grade classroom, there were eighteen students, six boys and twelve girls, and one teacher, Ms. Kaan. The physical and interpersonal
environments were similar in both classrooms however, the temporal environment was somewhat different. During my observation in the second–grade

The students either worked together to achieve a goal, or were playing matching games in which the child with the most number cards would win.
The children were learning basic addition, and identifying if one quantity is less than or greater than some other quantity. While some students got
slightly competitive, many of the children were aware of the purpose of playing the games. Several students stated that it did not matter who wins
because the games are supposed to be about having fun. After each group of children had a turn at each math center game, the children each
retrieved a book from their backpack and began independent reading. While reading, the children were permitted to sit wherever they would like
throughout the classroom, and Mrs. Caron called the names of four students who were allowed to pick out one of many stuffed animal bears from
around the room to hold or sit with while they read. Mrs. Caron explained to me that everyday a new group of four children is selected to use the
bears therefore, by the end of the week, every child is given the opportunity. While the children got settled for independent reading, I switched
classrooms and began observing in the third–grade classroom. In Ms. Kaan's third–grade classroom, I observed whole group reading and independent
reading. Whole group reading took place on the rug in the front of the classroom. Ms. Kaan read

As A Classroom Teacher, How Can You Learn About Your...
As a classroom teacher, how can you learn about your culture and your students' cultures and communities?
Some of the most successful methods used by teachers, even the federal government, to learn about culture are by letting each student share their
culture through food and explain the history behind their dish. Simply, by appealing to the students to converse about or share dishes distinctively in
their ethnicity, allows the student to show family values, environment of home, family dynamics and social skills. The principal way to bring about
such a task is, have a cultural food fair. Asking each student to prepare a preferred dish and assemble information about the preparation like, who cooks
this dish, even where and why this dish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Multicultural education has also questioned, dispute, and presumes content, perception, and patterns from the customary set of laws. Multicultural

What are common misconceptions about teaching children who are English language learners? What can you do to support them?
According to the reading of the textbook and general information about the misconceptions of English learning and teaching is, teachers in
conventional classrooms ought to, as a result, be equipped to teach students who come from different dialects, cultures, and learning conditions. Each
teacher should know to prepare themselves for the changes experience in their classrooms by reinforcement through specialized educational workshops,
help them to prepare for this type of classroom teaching. Maybe these workshops should on average start by highlight these values and characteristics
of language differences, thereby allow each teacher's attainment, that can be understood easily by teachers, when faced with this issue in their
classrooms. Thereby readily preparing each teacher to transform their

EDUC 399 Final Exam EDUC 326 Learner OutcomeEvidence of how you have met the outcome 1.Examine and discuss how the teacher's assumptions
about social context, teaching, and learning affect the dynamics of classroom life.A teacher's assumptions can be made through experiences with
schooling, their childhood, their own abilities and challenges, the amount of experiences with diversity and different cultures. Through experiences
teachers can be motivated, hindered, misinformed, and create bias that affect the dynamics of classroom life. A teacher may have certain views on the
roles and responsibilities of teachers that affect the climate for learning and classroom community. Furthermore, depending on how comfortable a
teacher may feel with the surrounding of the school and social context may hinder or enhance their participation in the community and advocacy. It is
crucial for teachers to reflect on their previous experiences, bias, and assumptions and examine if they are affecting the dynamics of your classroom.
Furthermore, teachers should look for professional resources and social experiences to better understand the needs and environment of their students.
This may help eliminate any bias and create an understanding to implement a warm accepting environment. 2.Develop practical reasoning and skill in
making classroom management decisions by examining cases that involve consideration of diverse perspectives, the consequences of certain choices,

Love Engagement And Consistency: A Recipe For Classroom...
Teaching is a great and exciting experience. However, to have an effective school teacher and for things to run as smooth as possible a teacher must
be prepared. In fact, teaching can be rather scary if a teacher is not prepared. A few things that a teacher can to in order to be prepared is to get
organized, be consistent and most importantly manage their classroom. Classroom management can be one of the most difficult parts of a teacher's job.
How a teacher handles her class makes a world of difference. Therefore, it is very important to have rules, show consistency, and be organized.
Although it can be hard for some newer teachers to swallow their pride they can actually learn a lot from teachers that have "been there and done
that." They can learn from their mistakes and even their successes. In the articles, "Love, Engagement, Support, and Consistency: A Recipe for
Classroom Management" (2014), and "Managing Your Classroom for Success" (2012), propose great advice on how to have a successful and well
managed classroom.
"Love, Engagement, Support, and Consistency: A Recipe for Classroom Management"
Summary
In the article, "Love, Engagement, Support, and Consistency: A Recipe for Classroom Management" (2014), by Jennifer Prior, it has the best recipe
for classroom management for teachers all across the world. It states that the best ingredients to have in a classroom for it to function properly are love,
engagement, support, and consistency.

Analysis And Dismissal Of A Classroom Program For The...
ARD Reflection
ARD are these letters stand for Admission, Review, and Dismissal. It is the Texas name for the group of people who make educational decisions
about the student. The purpose of the ARD meeting is to provide an opportunity for parents and educators to discuss and develop an educational
program for the student. Every ARD or IEP have to include a form a progress. And what direction the child must take in order tohelp with the process.
ARD helps the teachers and psychologist, principle, and other school faculty that must be present in order to help modified the students learning
environment by giving them a little extra help to get over the hump that they need.
This ARD meeting also helps me learn about the different style of test you can give to a child to find out the problem. Like the Johnson woodson Test
that is widely– used to measured different levels of reading, mathematics, and knowledge. Not only did we all have a role to act out the scene, but we
all had to spend countless hours of our time to research topics on how we wher going to approach this dilemma. By doing this ARD meeting it help me
understand things some students must go through to help them better prepare them. I also learned that the parents have every right to not allow the
kids to enter these special programs. Because not everyone is going to see this type of situation in a positive way. I like the fact that we did this

The Importance Of Classroom Management
Students are highly active throughout the world, whether it be with technology, conversation, video games, or social media. Students utilize these
avenues as a way of learning and to stay engaged with the world around them. Therefore, it is hard as a student to learn in a classroom setting that they
are not engaged in. Students that are engaged in their education tend to be more productive and enthusiastic about coming to school and learning the
material. As educators, it is our job to position and engage students in a manner that best helps them learn efficiently and consistently.
Keeping students engaged during instruction is not only crucial for their style of learning, but is also a vital part of classroom management on the
educators part. Students that are engaged in their education are less likely to create disciplinary issues within the classroom setting. Consequently,
compared to less engaged peers, engaged students demonstrate more effort, experience emotions that are more positive and pay more attention in the
classroom (Fredricks, Blumenfeld, & Paris, 2004). Educators must develop lesson plans that are simplistic, engaging, and relevant to students on a
daily basis. Lesson plans should not be developed in a manner that does not provide adequate time to absorb new material nor actively engage in a
productive manner in which students will learn and retain information. Classroom management is a way to ensure that a classroom is efficiently and
effectively

Classroom And Student Learning And Interactions
The layout of the classroom that I observed is when you first walk into the classroom to your left there are the student's mailboxes. You continue to
walk and the bathroom is on your left and next to the bathroom is the snack area and the library. Next to the library there are three tables where the
students do their work and there is a whiteboard. The next area of the classroom is the play area were each play area is sectioned into different
categories and then there was an area for circle time.
In the classroom that I observed the layout is conducive to student learning and interactions because in the classroom the teachers and the children were
able to interact with each other. In the classroom, there was an area for students to learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there was a bookshelf of books and a table for the students to read their books. Another center where the students do their work, there are three tables
and a whiteboard where the teacher writes her lesson and what she going to do in class. The third center in the playing center were all the toys are,
they have an area for dress, the kitchen, blocks, cars, and much more. The last center is the teacher does circle time, there is a round carpet that the
children sit and the teacher has a little desk with all her important information.
My impressions of the physical environment of the classroom that I observed was are I liked the learning center where the teacher taught the class.
The classroom was very organized and set up very nicely. The one thing that I did not like about the classroom was that the classroom was kind of
small and the children did not have a big space to play. My overall impression was the classroom was that I liked the classroom.

Classroom Management : Behavior Management
Many teachers have a vision of what the perfect classroom would be. All students would be well behaved. The students would all make good grades,
and the teacher would be able to get through all the lessons planned for each day. Well the world isn't perfect and this is not how the classroom will be,
but with the right classroom management skills the classroom can be an enjoyable and productive place. First, teachers must know what classroom
management is, and according to Weinstein classroom management "not only seeks to establish and sustain a caring, orderly environment in which
students can engage in meaningful learning, it also aims to enhance students' social and emotional growth" (Weinstein & Mignano , 2011, p.5). In my
classroom I have so many ideas and goals that I want to accomplish but three of the most important goals I hope to accomplish through classroom
management are behavior management, incorporating student interests into the classroom, and building social skills.
Although classroom management is more than just planning lessons ahead of time or decorating the physical classroom, student behavior plays a
major role in the operation of the classroom. In a classroom of 25 first grade (the grade i would like to teach) students there has to be some kind of
behavior management or the teacher would end up pulling their hair out each day. It is very important for teachers to set clear expectations of the
behavior that the students exhibit each day when they enter

Essay about Classroom Observation Report
Before I observed this particular class, I looked up information about the English Language Program (ELP) on–line. This program is designed for
people who wish to expand their English for communication, study, business, pleasure, etc. This program offers four core courses. The core course
that I observed was an Intermediate Reading and Discussion group which meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00–3:15.
Before the class observation: I met the instructor before class to discuss overall goals as well as goals for that day's lesson. The overall goal of the
course is to improve reading comprehension skills, increase vocabulary and reading speed, and develop discussion skills. The goal of that day's lesson
was to work on reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The instructor elicits more responses with each student. If the students make any errors, she doesn't correct them so as not to embarrass them. It also
seems like she's more interested in having them speak freely than correctly. Next the instructor gives students a handout for reading strategy practice.
The first section is on how to use guide words in a dictionary in order to find words quicker, the second section is on studying details in a sentence, and
the third section is on drawing conclusions from the information given. After the students complete each section on their own, they go over their
answers together. The last section consists of timed word selections where students get one minute to find as many words as possible. This is to help
the students practice scanning when they read. It is evident that reading strategies practice is a core part of this class. The instructor appears to be
promoting learner autonomy through strategies training (Rivera–Mills and Plosky, 2007)The instructor then allows the students to take a ten–minute
break. After the break, students begin their timed reading exercises with the SRA Reading Laboratory. This exercise is individualized. Students work
on the color that corresponds to their current reading level, which is great since their levels vary to some degree. There are three pages in total and the
instructor times them so that they have four minutes to finish each page. They check their answers and write their results on a

Essay about Challenges in the Classroom: ADHD and Autism
The modern classroom has many challenges that face it. Shrinking budgets, less parental involvement, higher expectations, and growing class sizes, just
to name a few. If this list was not daunting enough you also have the special needs students that have an array problems in your classroom that need
specialized attention, lessons and seating. There are many forms of diverse learners from students who suffer from ADHD to physical disabilities to
students with autism to ones that are bullied in school. There are so many things going on in our students lives we sometimes forget they have lives,
pressures and disabilities that affect their performance and attitude in our class that have a profound impact on how they learn. For this paper I ... Show

Students, who have ADHD have trouble focusing in class, are easily distracted, have very short attention spans, have trouble following through and
completing projects, often jump around between tasks, and following simple conversations and instructions. This would obviously make being
successful in a traditional classroom very difficult for students who have this type of learn disability. Simple things like going over instructions,
explaining assignments or completing homework. These students could easily become behavior problems in the classroom as they have growing
frustrations levels over not being able to complete tasks get good grades or follow along with the class. They would require preferential seating and one
on one contact with the teacher. By sitting towards the front of the room that would allow to the teacher to constantly check for understanding and
make sure the student is on task. They would also require ILP or individual lesson plans. ADHD students would need long term projects and complex
assignments broken down into smaller more manageable segments and would need the curriculum and grading expectations adjusted according to the
student's ability. You could also pair an ADHD student with another student in the class to help them with simple task and assignments. These are some
of the challenges and solutions that would face students that have ADHD in a classroom.

Developmentally Appropriate Practices ( Dap )
Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) is a method of teaching that is based on the research about how young children grow and learn and
includes standards for high quality care and education for young children. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
established these guidelines more than 20 years ago. Authors Gordon and Browne state, "The DAP approach stresses the need for activity–based
learning environments and is based on what we know about children through years of child development research and what we observe of their
interests, abilities, and needs" (40). The three core components of DAP are: 1) what is known about child development and learning, 2) what is
known about each child, and 3) what is known about social and cultural contexts in which children learn. A DAP classroom is a busy classroom where
students are engaged and interacting physically with objects and persons. This classroom is full of materials, activities, and direct interactions that lead
the student into active learning. The observations for this report were conducted at the Laredo Community College Camilo Prada Early Child
Development Center in the blue classroom.
OBSERVATION SUMMARY #1– INDOOR SPACE . The blue classroom met DAP practices in that the furniture was sized appropriately to the ages
of the children that were in that classroom (approx. 4–5yrs) and in the way classroom was arranged. The centers were easy to access and they were

The Importance Of Positive Guidance And Classroom Management
What do I think about positive guidance? In my opinion, positive guidance simply means to guide many children's behavior throughout the school
day from using acceptable behaviors, modeling empathy and respect, and creating suitable rules and routines in the classroom. Why positive
guidance is important in the classroom for me as a teacher? As a teacher, positive guidance is important in the classroom for me because I want to
give the students a fun but a more structured learning environment, becoming authoritative when communicating with my students, and establishing
teamwork sessions in my classroom with my students. In ECD 105, I have learned why guidance and classroom management is important and how
to use it appropriately in the classroom. Taking this guidance and classroom management class was so important to me because you get to learn all
kinds of information about positive child guidance and child development. How can I use social competence to develop positive relationships for
students in my classroom? As the children's teacher, I will plan to use social competence to develop positive relationships for my students in my
classroom from helping them to gain their confidence, becoming socially competent, and teaching them how to get along with their friends at school.
What do I need to know as an educator to know about social competence? As an educator, I need to know of how challenged I can be when I am
educating students of a high level of literacy to meet the demands of an internationally global society. How can I plan to establish a positive
teacher–student relationship with my students in the classroom? As the students' teacher, I will plan to establish a positive teacher–student relationship
my students because I will need to get on the child's level to make an interaction with them face to face, listening to them and also have them to listen
to others around them. How can I build a community with my students in my classroom? In my classroom, I want to be able to build a community with
my students from learning my students' names, having classroom discussions and meetings, using positive touch, being fully conscious, and
establishing rules and routines for students to know the expectations in my

And with teacher interaction, the faculty are always warm, supportive, and caring. They show respect towards the children and the children enjoy
their company. One of the major things I noticed in this category is adults helping children with social behavior and peers. The teachers does this
very well and is always trying to teach the students how to avoid conflict. In this age group children tend to be egocentric and have trouble sharing
with their peers so I have seen many instances of children walking over and grabbing an object out of another student 's hand. But when this does
happen the teacher immediately notices and then asks them to "use their words" and to practice saying phrases like "Can I play with you please?"
By doing so, this helps with their social development since they are learning how to cooperate and resolve conflicts. Their daily routine is also well
structured, balanced, and flexible. In order, their schedule consist of arrival and play, morning meeting, small group activity, outside play, snack, large
group activity, closing activity/song, and parent pickup. Overall, these aspects of the checklist, along with many others received high rating and are
very present in the classroom. However, I noticed a few things that were either absent in the classroom (received a rating of 1) or was satisfactory but

professionals and students from the slide rule and made learning and performing mathematical calculations much less time consuming. Fast forward to

The interactive software can even replace many tools that educators have used for years. The Smart Board allows for the virtual manipulation of tools
like stop watches, scales, calculators, dice and other educational manipulative (Carter, 2006) . The Smart Board also makes classroom management
easier. Unlike a computer which must be controlled at the mouse and keyboard which is usually located at a desk in the corner of the classroom,
Smart Boards are operated from the actual board itself and even allows the instructor to control the computer in the corner of the room remotely,
leaving them to stay in the front of the classroom rather than off to the side during lessons (DeCraene, 2003) .
The Smart Board is able to integrate into every subject in the curriculum. In a science classroom, the smart board can be used to simulate
experiments that have been run by students or will be run. Variables can be swapped out or altered to show students, what if situations. Chemistry
and biology classes can use the smart board to perform virtual dissections, display three dimensional models of molecules and atoms and can even be

I would use reinforcements when the student displayed the desired behavior. It is important to use a reinforcement that the student is interested in, so
they will want to work for it. I might allow the student to sit in the teacher's chair for the day, or have extra computer time. After the student's behavior
starts changing, I would wait longer to use the reinforcement. Finally, the student's behavior should be like the other students in the class, and the
reinforcement is no longer needed.
Classroom Management Belief When I started teaching 17 years ago, I thought students would do what I asked them to do, because I asked. I have
learned throughout the years that this is not always true, and that it is very important to have a classroom management plan ready every year before
school starts. As a teacher, it is my job to provide a safe environment where my students feel welcome, and can receive the qualityeducation they
deserve. I believe that I should be assertive with discipline and teaching, have an organized, well–managed classroom, and teach students important
social skills and how to behave appropriately in different situations they may encounter throughout their lives. Assertive Discipline is about being firm
with fair rules, when someone displays inappropriate behavior, there are negative consequences, and when someone displays positive behavior, there
are positive consequences (Ellis, 1995, p.1). The rules and consequences are all created

They are given choices about what to read and what to write about.
They are given real audience and purpose to their assignments.
They can relate their learning to their lives outside the classroom.

There is an atmosphere where everyone's opinions and interpretations are valid and all students are allowed to express their ideas without being judged

In a lot of ways students will also set their own goals by which they will be graded. They will set goals for independent reading and will be graded on
their ability to meet those goals. In this same idea my students will state what their weaknesses are in their writing and then be graded on their
improvement in those areas and the course progresses. I think students are more motivated when they are allowed to work on the skills they deem
important and useful and meet their own goals to overcome those weaknesses. Reaching these goals create a much larger sense of accomplishment than
any arbitrary grade. Realizing that each student has different individual skills and goals, teacher involvement and knowledge with their students is vital
to helping students achieve their own successes. Teachers also need to realize that each student is motivated by different goals and in different ways.
The setting of individual goals allows for each student to both work independently and motivate each student as needed.
This also takes the form of creating motivation in my students by allowing them to see how their learning relates to their lives outside my classroom.

Article Review: Classroom Discourse And Student Learning
INTRODUCTION The title of this article is Classroom Discourse and Student Learning. This article is written by Yani Zhang from Qingdao University
of Science and Technology, China in 2008. This article consists of three pages long. Generally, this article talks about how classroom discourse and
student learning interact with one another. The author quoted Daniels (2001 cited in Alexander, 2004:8) that classroom talk not only mediates teaching
and learning but the wider culture. The author also quoted Barnes (1992:124) that learning is not simply adding bits of information to the previous
knowledge but it is a matter of "working on understanding." It means that the author believes talking should play a vital role in the meaningful learning
process. Hence, the author suggested a few techniques on how to promote the quality of classroom talk and further facilitate student learning. The aim

Examples Of Classroom Observation For Children
For my classroom observation, I am placed with Alice Hunt at Genesis Child Care Center. It has a very nice atmosphere and the children all seem to
really enjoy their cooperating teacher and classroom. My classroom has a lot of positive areas and is beneficial to the children's development and
learning. On the other hand, there is some room for improvement inside the classroom. I think by adding some things to the classroom and taking some
things away would help the classroom become a better more interactive classroom for the children. There are some things as a future educator that I
would like to bring into the classroom that I feel would implement the classroom also.
The three things that I feel are very positive for the children and that I feel makes the classroom a positive environment is for starters the artwork and
their writings placed around the room. Having the children's artwork and other work around the room is crucial for building a strong relationship with

Essay about Classroom Observation Analysis
Classroom Observation Analysis

Abstract
Many instructional approaches exist that have been developed to reach more students. Teachers have to select the instructional approaches that work
best for students. These approaches have been tested and researched from various theoretical perspectives. An education theory is the speculative
thought of education and just like any other theory; it explains, guides, and describes the practices of education. The earliest speculation on educational
processes began during the times of classical sophists and Greek philosophers. Current education speculations use terms like andragogy, curriculum,
learning pedagogy, education organization, leadership, and policy. Education thought is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this theory Vygotsky believed that social processes should be incorporated into the education system. Such social processes include peer review,
group work activities, and individual contact between student and teacher. Unlike Dewey and his ideas, Vygotsky does not support teacher's elitism, he
favors the teaching of thinking skills to students and not just teaching a lesson based on a particular topic (Indiana University, 2004).
The most effective educational theory to enhance instruction and learning From the two educational theorists, individuals can examine that they had
two different thoughts on what education should be, which are not in agreement to each other. However, both Vygotsky and Dewey ideas should be
applied in the classroom setting in unison because both their ideas are focused on a classroom environment that emphasizes ways of thinking and
student achievement to learn facts. The use of both ideas in a classroom stetting enables a learning situation guided by a teacher who guides students
through direction with positive reinforcement and is not a strict figure of authority. Both the ideas of Vygotsky and Dewey require teachers to be
dedicated and committed to individual student needs and abilities and not to the ideals and expectations regarding "normal" or "advanced"

The Touch Screen Classroom : How Technology Can Reinvent...
In Kate Lunau's article, "The touch–screen classroom: How technology can reinvent how and where children learn," written for the website
MacLean.ca's in January 2012, Lunau details many reinventive ways technology is being used in grade school classrooms. The magazine, Macleans.ca,
is a Canadian current affairs publication, which covers stories from the fields of international affairs, social issues, national politics, business and
culture. Lunau's main arguments in the article are that technology in the classroom has already changing how and where students learn and more
changes will happen. Also, that these changes to the tools used to teach children, are not fundamentally bad. Within the article Lunau identifies several
common negative concerns that parents and education administrators have on the idea of incorporating technology in the classroom. These concerns
included that technology will distract students, it will promote cyber bullying and it will erode literacy skills. She addresses these concerns by
introducing several strategies to mitigate and she offers several positive comments that may not be common in the conversation around technology in
the classroom. The article was written for a popular news publication, therefore the analysis on how technology is changing how and where students
learn is barely an overview and not a reliable qualitative study.
The article is about technology in the grade school classroom. At first the article explores personal mobile

The Inclusion Act Of Students With Mild Or Severe...
Do you think that students with mild or severe disabilities can be successful if they are in a general education classroom all the time? This paper is the
summary of research done about the inclusion act. The inclusion act is that students with disabilities are in classes with their general education peers.
There are many views on the positive and negative results of inclusion. This paper covers the view points of the research, the parent's view, the student's
view, and the teacher's view. An article from the University of Oregon researches if it is beneficial to place students in an inclusive setting. In the article
it first defines what inclusion is. Inclusion is, "defined as providing specially designed instruction and supports for the students with special needs in the
context of the regular education settings" (Moore p. 1). The article was interesting because it mentioned that research had found that, "Instruction not
setting, is the key to achievement of success as measured by student outcomes" (Moore p. 1). The article also taught us the difference between
mainstreaming and inclusion. Mainstreaming is when students no longer need special education services and are put in the general education classroom.
Inclusion is when students are placed in the general education classroom, but still receive specially designed instruction and services (Moore p. 2).
Research found that "inclusion is more effective than either integration or mainstreaming" (Moore p. 2). The article

Essay about Philosophy of Classroom Discipline
Philosophy of Classroom Discipline "Power is exercised only over free subjects, and only insofar as they are free. By this we mean individual or
collective subjects who are faced with a field of possibilities in which several ways of behaving, several reactions and diverse compartments may be
realized." (Foucault) Foucault and Heidegger, modern philosophers, both describe power in these terms, as the facility to manipulate an object without
force. Understanding this point of view is important, not only for state institutions who attempt to exert power over citizens and deviants, but also for
teachers as they try to use disciplinary power to control the events in their classroom. Unfortunately, the majority of status quo disciplinary... Show

The truth is that students are the only ones who can make the decision to behave well or conform to teacher expectations. Recognizing this leads one to
note that instead of forcing a student to behave well, a teacher needs to influence a student in a positive way. The question is what does a teacher do to
positively influence students without exerting coercive control? Gordon points out that the best way to resolve and prevent situations of misbehavior
and deviance in the classroom is to first recognize who owns the problem. In a situation where students are disrupting the class, for example, a teacher
should be sure to use messages to indicate that the problem is affecting the teacher in a negative way, forcing the students to decide if they want to
continue their disruptive activity instead of immediately going on the defensive against what they may think is an over controlling warden.
Additionally, using the no–lose method of conflict resolution allows students to have a positive way out of a bad situation, instead of a forced
punishment with no control over the situation. By allowing the student to have power over the student, the teacher in these instances is able to wield
true power and is more likely to maintain a well behaved and efficient classroom environment. In the same way that teachers should use true power in
confrontational situations, where the teacher has the problem, the teacher should also use true power in situations where

A Yellow Smiley Face
A yellow smiley face is a symbol that most children would associate as a good sign and could get excited about. It would be easy for all students to
be able to keep track of their progress in following rules in the classroom. Students who speak English as a second language or students with a
learning disability would both be able to understand this system of behavior. The ability to enforce the rules with a reward incentive would be easy
to explain to all students and would be exciting. The teacher will also conduct a daily meeting with students where they will have the opportunity to
share anything on their minds. The teacher and students will gather in a circle in the classroom and everyone will have the chance to take turns
sharing something about themselves or something on their mind. The daily meeting in the classroom can sometimes be organized as a game to
make the activity more fun for students. For example, students could throw a ball around in the circle and whoever catches the ball has to share
something with the class and then they pass the ball around. One teacher conducted the "Toilet Paper Game" in her classroom on the first day of
school, where a roll of toilet paper was passed around the classroom and each student "took what he or she needed". However many sheets the student
took was how many things the student had to share about him or herself to the class (Shaw, 2013). The goal of this daily meeting as a group is to
build a caring environment

Teaching and Learning in a Networked Composition Classroom
In her essay "Technology and Literacy: A Story about the Perils of Not Paying Attention," Cynthia L. Selfe notes that "technology is either boring or
frightening to most humanists; many teachers of English composition feel it antithetical to their primary concerns and many believe it should not be
allowed to take up valuable scholarly time or the attention that could be best put to use in teaching or the study of literacy" (Self 412). Looking around
campus it takes little time to verify Selfe's caution about indifference to computers: except in its uses as "a simple tool that individual faculty members
can use or ignore in their classrooms as they choose" (Self 414), computer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests a very real problem: how do instructors equip such students with the technology–specific literacy skills they will need to thrive in an
increasingly digital world, and at the same time justify to the public the significant investment necessary to create computerized classroom space? The
intent of this essay is not to offer universal solutions to this problem, but rather to bring the experiences of one particular computerized classroom, both
positive and negative, into dialogue with the numerous voices already speaking out about the role of computers in education. By doing so, I hope to
demonstrate how the human component of the technology–education equation–the creative and adaptive abilities of the instructor, or "humanware1"
–becomes an increasingly vital aspect of computerized pedagogy, especially as the power of hardware and software becomes more pervasive and
perhaps threatening.
Reams of books and articles published during the last two decades2 testify forcefully of the controversy raging over the impact, both positive and
negative, that the infusion of new technology into the classroom is having upon the way students learn and teachers teach. Ultimately, however, these
many voices can be roughly divided into two camps: those attempt to forward and perfect the difficult task of using computers as teaching instruments,
and those who will resist–many for justifiable reasons which must be recognized and

The Ugly Truth About Mainstreaming Classrooms
The Ugly Truth About Mainstreaming Classrooms Gabrielle Wooten Towson University Abstract Full inclusion classrooms hinder the disabled
students' abilities by making the students feel isolated, causing lower grades, and lacking the proper help the students need to succeed. These
disadvantages and the support used proves that the segregated classroom allow the special needs students to focus and the general students to not be
distracted as well. With the students undivided attention, the students', in excluded classrooms, grades improve greatly. As more people know about
full inclusion, there is more of a chance to keep it out of school systems everywhere. Introduction Full inclusion or mainstreaming classrooms is when
special needs students are assimilated into a general classroom setting. On the other hand, the special needs classrooms are set aside to allow disabled
students to learn at a different pace with a certified teacher. The census has reported "Of the 53.9 million school–aged children (aged 5 to 17) in the
U.S. civilian no institutionalized population, about 2.8 million were reported to have a disability in 2010 "(Brault, 2011, p. 1). These children require
special attention from properly trained teachers who can help them succeed. Since the number of special needs students is on the rise, full inclusion has
become a popular topic among education reformers. The full inclusion of a class can mean the difference between passing

Technology In Anna Johanson's Five Myths About Classroom...
Walking into a classroom full of students using school devices such as laptops, tablets, or smart boards, has become part of the new generation.
Technology has advanced throughout the decades, completely taking over whiteboards, paper, and textbooks. This advanced technology is causing
textbooks to be in risk of extinction and hardly to be used. However, some may suggest that technology supports students by having access to the
internet to search for essential information, and the information can be found in matter of seconds. Learning technology in a classroom setting puts
students at risk of having distractions, experiencing technological delays, and increasing health problems. Non–technological methods such as
textbooks, paper packets, and white boards help students have more focus and help students memorize class content and help interact with their peer
members.
Teachers do not know what students are doing when they have their devices out. Students might be on the website that they are supposed to be on or
might be on a different website that is not school related. But usually when a teacher checks up on their students to see how their work is going, the
students quickly go to the site where they are suppose to be in.
Some students also multitask but usually get distracted on what is most entertaining. In the article, "5 Myths About Classroom Technology" by Anna
Johansson, she admits the refusal to follow curriculum when the device is in front of them. In other words,

The following paper is article review of the article titled: Using What We Know about Language and Literacy Development for ESL Students in the
Mainstream Classroom by Susan Watts–Taffe and Diane M. Truscott. In the article Watts

article focuses on the following: what we know about literacy development, what we know about language proficiency and literacy development, what
we know about entering a new culture, facilitating English language literacy development, and scaffolding instruction. Discussed under the section
titled "What We Know About Literacy Development" Watts

seems that some of the most powerful lessons addressed such as language learning proceeds best when children use language for meaningful purposes
(Au, 1998) and what constitutes meaningful language use is influenced by an individuals prior experience, culture, motivation, and goals (Delpit,

Single-Sex Classrooms Are Not The Answer! Essay
Did you know that single–sex classrooms are the worst classes ever? Over the past decade, single–gender classrooms have been opened in at least 230
schools in the rural, suburban, and the urban areas. Single–gender classrooms are classrooms where either young girls' are in one class together, or
young boys are in another class together. Single–sex classrooms were created because studies showed that boys and girls learn differently and they
could benefit from being in a classroom with peers to whom they can relate. Since 2008, single–gender education has been the key to improved
educational performance among boys and girls throughout the years. Today, gender differences among girls and boys are steadily rising in the
classrooms they are in, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An article that was written about a school in Texas stated that more than 50% of boys and girls in single–gender classrooms cause disruptions, and they
bring their behavior from home into the classrooms at school. In an article, it stated that "in October of 2006, federal regulations established the
requirements for legally permissible single–sex schools and classes within the public system; nearly 200 schools in South Carolina have single–gender
classrooms" ("Single–Sex Education Spreads" 2). Teachers' interest often drives the attention of students to single–gender classes, and growing interest
from their parents is also pushing more schools and districts as they hear about these classrooms ("Single–Gender Classrooms" 2). While teachers and
administrators prefer this environment, boys and girls in single–sex classrooms are influenced to distract and be distracted by their friends, and the
people around them. They seem to doodle, daydream, and lose their thought in the classroom because of their surroundings. In a newspaper article,
"Should Children Be Taught in Single–Sex Classrooms", the author says pupils fail to develop relationships with the opposite sex if they are taught in
a single–sex environment because they both tend to be drawn into conflict amongst each other, they are distracted by what others are doing in the
classrooms, and they are not themselves because they are being forced into an unfamiliar environment they do not

Classroom Management Plan ※ Theoretical Introduction Philosophy of Classroom Management Developing an ideal classroom that is
well–managed does not require any special power. It requires a simple skill called thought and heart. One of the key components of becoming a
successful and ultimately great teacher is how you manage the classroom. Sports analysts say the most intelligent quarterbacks are the best game
managers. Teachers play the quarterback role and Game Day, with the offense and defense out on the field, is the classroom of students. School should

not feel he or she has received any satisfaction in the classroom, the risk of them rebelling increases. The adolescent years are the formative years for
people, and what occurs during this period will have a lasting effect. If students feel disconnected or unsatisfied with knowledge, their learning will

Educational institutions are experimenting with gaming by integrating gaming elements, mechanics and frameworks into non–game situations and
scenarios. Educators recognize that games can inspire productivity and creativity among learners, promote engagement in critical thinking, problem
solving skills as well as collaborative and team work, (Johnson, Becker, Estrada, & Freeman, 2014). Similar to designing a curriculum, gaming
should follow specific design principles to ensure that goals are clear. The games should be at a pace where students can comfortably learn and
doesn't become frustrated and provide feedback throughout the process so students can get a feel of their progress and personal growth, (Reeves &

The students will not only be taught with gaming strategies but also learn to create games using sites such as Scratch. (Richardson, 2012), before the
students are at the stage to build games they should be able to play existing games to certain levels to learn the process of building their own games.
The games built will be used to teach other students the concept that they learnt. Similar to objectives being created based on unit topic the teachers
will create themes and then structure specific quests for these themes. These quests include questions or scenarios which should pose as a challenge for
the students in a game–based style. Students will be taught about the material required to complete the quests and boss levels. They will be given the
overall theme and missions along with the quests and boss levels to become familiar with the content as well as to get them motivated to participate in
an effort to accomplish the goals.

It 's Important For Educator For Foster Diversity...
Venassa Simpson
October 27, 2015
It's important for educator to foster diversity education and create inclusive classroom that honor the multiplicity of identities and knowledge different
students bring into classroom.
Students and faculty in schools today are becoming increasingly diverse in their backgrounds and experiences, reflecting the diversity observed in our
broader society. The center for teaching is committed to supporting diversity mostly as it meets with the wide range of teaching and learning. There are
no specific rules for responding to ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity in the classroom. Furthermore, making your classroom inviting and comfortable
to help with ideas and resources will benefit student success appropriately. Perhaps the usual value is to be thoughtful and sensitive.
Creating a physical environment of classroom also reflect expectation of student, if students are perceived to be lacking, the education environment may
reflect as plain. If students are perceived as intelligent and motivated as having interest in the world around them, the education environment tends to
reflect an intellectually and academically, a place where learning is considerable comfortable and confident as learners. The environment is classroom

Additionally, to create a physical environment in class room is by adding bright posters, organized spaces and supportive learning.

Teaching students with exceptional abilities requires funding, training and planning. Being in a regular classroom with children from various
cultures, ethnic backgrounds and intellectual ability help students learn how to work together toward a common goal: reduce discrimination and
stereotyping people with physical and mental limitations. Instructional strategies that break the work down so everyone learns better can improve
education as well as reduce cost. This is achieved by including special education students in environments that will allow them to develop normal
social interactions as well as receive specific attention to their learning needs. ("What is Special Education") Children with disabilities need to be
recognized as individuals as well as be valued for the people they will grow to be. In the classroom the growing process can be difficult to achieve
depending on the nature and severity of the disability. Not all children will be served by full inclusion, some students have disabilities that require
medical attention or physical facilities such as specially equipped bathrooms, ramps or elevators that may not be found in the traditional school

confined to a wheelchair, inclusion could cause more harm than good. This student requires medical aid to care for physical

The Classroom, Stereotypes About Mathematics Abound
In the classroom, stereotypes about mathematics abound. "Boys are better at math than girls" or "most people are not that good at math; therefore it
is no big deal if I am not" are just a few of the common attitudes that teachers must be aware of and combat as to not allow them to become
self–fulfilling prophecies for their students. BLA BLA BLA THIS IS INTRO HERE
Mathematical Foundations
It is imperative that learners have a rich understanding of numerical concepts. Many of the later math disciplines and skills that students will encounter
are going to require knowledge and application of basic numeracy skills. Merely following steps in a process (e.g. multiplying fractions) or using an
algorithm without knowing what is happening to the numbers, will leave the student void of true understanding and in turn, inhibit the path of
learning. For example, imagine a scenario where a student who was never able to understand primary concepts related to prime and composite numbers
finds him or herself in a classroom years later that requires factoring trinomials. Teachers may never be able to make math easy for their students, but
they can support students in a way that enables them to be successful by ensuring they teach it in a way that promotes genuine understanding and
knowledge of numerical content.
Early learners need to recognize that numbers represent a quantity and mean something. It is folly to assume that a student who can orally pronounce
number names or

The Effectiveness of Weblogs in the Classroom
The internet has proven that it can be a very reasonable and valuable tool for research and communication within the classroom setting. Over the past
decade, it has redeveloped the way students retrieve and use information, claims Richardson (2004). Richardson continues that until now it was not very
clear if the internet provided students with anything more than a vast tool for research. One application that has altered this perception is the "weblog."
The introduction of weblogs within school systems has really made a profound impact on the way children learn. According to Richardson (2004),

Weblogs have become easier to use over the past few years. Blogging software has improved immensely and one does not need to know html code to
have a weblog on the internet (Australia). There are simple guides and tutorials posted on the internet to help those who lack knowledge in the
interactive journal experience. Most of the specialized software is publicly accessible through different servers including Xanga, blogspot, and
Schoolblogs. These servers do not require that you download any tools and they are free to the public. Stach (2004) suggests, when registering for a
weblog, very little information is required and anonymity is reserved. "Weblogs offer a communication medium that is more structured that an e–mail
list and more focused than a discussion board" suggests Kajder (2003). Weblogs are also hyperactive, meaning that the author of a blog has the ability
to place links within their writings (Stach 2004). This gives us the capability of posting interesting findings on the internet for others to read (Stach
2004).
There are many weblogs dedicated to the topic of education. Many more school systems are taking on the use of weblogs to ensure communication
amongst students, faculty, and guardians (Richardson, 2004). They are also being used to achieve and display the

Literature if used correctly can enhance a child's life. It can become a valuable tool in helping children to understand their home, communities and the
world in which they live. Through literature children's vocabulary, imaginations, and self understanding is built. Children should be exposed to

Patricia Polacco states that books should do a good job bridging the gap by having respect for the people who are different. Give the correct portrayal

Yumi Heo states wrote two books that correctly depicted the Korean immigrant experience. Choose books that exhibit values of Asian cultures such as
respect for elders. Be sure to include setting from the United States as well as other countries providing cultural roots for Asian–American students.
While choosing multicultural literature the story should be interesting to the children, characters should represent the culture of the people, the
illustrations should represent diversity, and most of all the books should be age appropriate. Today's classroom is very diverse and the activities should
represent the classroom culture. The development of children is centered on what is taught in the classroom. Therefore, the language, intellectual,

My Observation Of A Elementary School Classroom

  • 1. My Observation Of A Elementary School Classroom Elementary school classrooms should be vibrant, inviting, and interactive. My first observation was in a second–grade classroom, followed by an observation in a third–grade classroom. I observed classrooms at East Haddam Elementary School from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. on the 12th of October. I spent two hours in each classroom. There were seventeen students in the second–grade classroom, eight boys and nine girls, and one teacher, Mrs. Caron. In the third–grade classroom, there were eighteen students, six boys and twelve girls, and one teacher, Ms. Kaan. The physical and interpersonal environments were similar in both classrooms however, the temporal environment was somewhat different. During my observation in the second–grade ... The children were learning basic addition, and identifying if one quantity is less than or greater than some other quantity. While some students got slightly competitive, many of the children were aware of the purpose of playing the games. Several students stated that it did not matter who wins because the games are supposed to be about having fun. After each group of children had a turn at each math center game, the children each retrieved a book from their backpack and began independent reading. While reading, the children were permitted to sit wherever they would like throughout the classroom, and Mrs. Caron called the names of four students who were allowed to pick out one of many stuffed animal bears from around the room to hold or sit with while they read. Mrs. Caron explained to me that everyday a new group of four children is selected to use the bears therefore, by the end of the week, every child is given the opportunity. While the children got settled for independent reading, I switched classrooms and began observing in the third–grade classroom. In Ms. Kaan's third–grade classroom, I observed whole group reading and independent reading. Whole group reading took place on the rug in the front of the classroom. Ms. Kaan read ... • 2. As A Classroom Teacher, How Can You Learn About Your... As a classroom teacher, how can you learn about your culture and your students' cultures and communities? Some of the most successful methods used by teachers, even the federal government, to learn about culture are by letting each student share their culture through food and explain the history behind their dish. Simply, by appealing to the students to converse about or share dishes distinctively in their ethnicity, allows the student to show family values, environment of home, family dynamics and social skills. The principal way to bring about such a task is, have a cultural food fair. Asking each student to prepare a preferred dish and assemble information about the preparation like, who cooks this dish, even where and why this dish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... EDUC 399 Final Exam EDUC 326 Learner OutcomeEvidence of how you have met the outcome 1.Examine and discuss how the teacher's assumptions about social context, teaching, and learning affect the dynamics of classroom life.A teacher's assumptions can be made through experiences with schooling, their childhood, their own abilities and challenges, the amount of experiences with diversity and different cultures. Through experiences teachers can be motivated, hindered, misinformed, and create bias that affect the dynamics of classroom life. A teacher may have certain views on the roles and responsibilities of teachers that affect the climate for learning and classroom community. Furthermore, depending on how comfortable a teacher may feel with the surrounding of the school and social context may hinder or enhance their participation in the community and advocacy. It is crucial for teachers to reflect on their previous experiences, bias, and assumptions and examine if they are affecting the dynamics of your classroom. • 4. Love Engagement And Consistency: A Recipe For Classroom... Teaching is a great and exciting experience. However, to have an effective school teacher and for things to run as smooth as possible a teacher must be prepared. In fact, teaching can be rather scary if a teacher is not prepared. A few things that a teacher can to in order to be prepared is to get organized, be consistent and most importantly manage their classroom. Classroom management can be one of the most difficult parts of a teacher's job. How a teacher handles her class makes a world of difference. Therefore, it is very important to have rules, show consistency, and be organized. Although it can be hard for some newer teachers to swallow their pride they can actually learn a lot from teachers that have "been there and done that." They can learn from their mistakes and even their successes. In the articles, "Love, Engagement, Support, and Consistency: A Recipe for Classroom Management" (2014), and "Managing Your Classroom for Success" (2012), propose great advice on how to have a successful and well managed classroom. • 5. Analysis And Dismissal Of A Classroom Program For The... ARD Reflection ARD are these letters stand for Admission, Review, and Dismissal. It is the Texas name for the group of people who make educational decisions about the student. The purpose of the ARD meeting is to provide an opportunity for parents and educators to discuss and develop an educational program for the student. Every ARD or IEP have to include a form a progress. And what direction the child must take in order tohelp with the process. ARD helps the teachers and psychologist, principle, and other school faculty that must be present in order to help modified the students learning environment by giving them a little extra help to get over the hump that they need. This ARD meeting also helps me learn about the different style of test you can give to a child to find out the problem. Like the Johnson woodson Test that is widely– used to measured different levels of reading, mathematics, and knowledge. Not only did we all have a role to act out the scene, but we all had to spend countless hours of our time to research topics on how we wher going to approach this dilemma. By doing this ARD meeting it help me understand things some students must go through to help them better prepare them. I also learned that the parents have every right to not allow the kids to enter these special programs. Because not everyone is going to see this type of situation in a positive way. I like the fact that we did this presentation both a positive view and a negative view. We as future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Classroom Management Students are highly active throughout the world, whether it be with technology, conversation, video games, or social media. Students utilize these avenues as a way of learning and to stay engaged with the world around them. Therefore, it is hard as a student to learn in a classroom setting that they are not engaged in. Students that are engaged in their education tend to be more productive and enthusiastic about coming to school and learning the material. As educators, it is our job to position and engage students in a manner that best helps them learn efficiently and consistently. Keeping students engaged during instruction is not only crucial for their style of learning, but is also a vital part of classroom management on the educators part. Students that are engaged in their education are less likely to create disciplinary issues within the classroom setting. Consequently, compared to less engaged peers, engaged students demonstrate more effort, experience emotions that are more positive and pay more attention in the classroom (Fredricks, Blumenfeld, & Paris, 2004). Educators must develop lesson plans that are simplistic, engaging, and relevant to students on a daily basis. Lesson plans should not be developed in a manner that does not provide adequate time to absorb new material nor actively engage in a productive manner in which students will learn and retain information. Classroom management is a way to ensure that a classroom is efficiently and effectively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Classroom Management : Behavior Management Many teachers have a vision of what the perfect classroom would be. All students would be well behaved. The students would all make good grades, and the teacher would be able to get through all the lessons planned for each day. Well the world isn't perfect and this is not how the classroom will be, but with the right classroom management skills the classroom can be an enjoyable and productive place. First, teachers must know what classroom management is, and according to Weinstein classroom management "not only seeks to establish and sustain a caring, orderly environment in which students can engage in meaningful learning, it also aims to enhance students' social and emotional growth" (Weinstein & Mignano , 2011, p.5). In my classroom I have so many ideas and goals that I want to accomplish but three of the most important goals I hope to accomplish through classroom management are behavior management, incorporating student interests into the classroom, and building social skills. Although classroom management is more than just planning lessons ahead of time or decorating the physical classroom, student behavior plays a major role in the operation of the classroom. In a classroom of 25 first grade (the grade i would like to teach) students there has to be some kind of behavior management or the teacher would end up pulling their hair out each day. It is very important for teachers to set clear expectations of the behavior that the students exhibit each day when they enter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This program is designed for people who wish to expand their English for communication, study, business, pleasure, etc. This program offers four core courses. The core course that I observed was an Intermediate Reading and Discussion group which meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00–3:15. Before the class observation: I met the instructor before class to discuss overall goals as well as goals for that day's lesson. The overall goal of the course is to improve reading comprehension skills, increase vocabulary and reading speed, and develop discussion skills. If the students make any errors, she doesn't correct them so as not to embarrass them. It also seems like she's more interested in having them speak freely than correctly. Next the instructor gives students a handout for reading strategy practice. The first section is on how to use guide words in a dictionary in order to find words quicker, the second section is on studying details in a sentence, and the third section is on drawing conclusions from the information given. After the students complete each section on their own, they go over their answers together. The last section consists of timed word selections where students get one minute to find as many words as possible. This is to help the students practice scanning when they read. It is evident that reading strategies practice is a core part of this class. The instructor appears to be promoting learner autonomy through strategies training (Rivera–Mills and Plosky, 2007)The instructor then allows the students to take a ten–minute break. After the break, students begin their timed reading exercises with the SRA Reading Laboratory. This exercise is individualized. Students work on the color that corresponds to their current reading level, which is great since their levels vary to some degree. There are three pages in total and the instructor times them so that they have four minutes to finish each page. They check their answers and write their results on a ... Shrinking budgets, less parental involvement, higher expectations, and growing class sizes, just to name a few. If this list was not daunting enough you also have the special needs students that have an array problems in your classroom that need specialized attention, lessons and seating. There are many forms of diverse learners from students who suffer from ADHD to physical disabilities to students with autism to ones that are bullied in school. Students, who have ADHD have trouble focusing in class, are easily distracted, have very short attention spans, have trouble following through and completing projects, often jump around between tasks, and following simple conversations and instructions. This would obviously make being successful in a traditional classroom very difficult for students who have this type of learn disability. Simple things like going over instructions, explaining assignments or completing homework. These students could easily become behavior problems in the classroom as they have growing frustrations levels over not being able to complete tasks get good grades or follow along with the class. They would require preferential seating and one on one contact with the teacher. By sitting towards the front of the room that would allow to the teacher to constantly check for understanding and make sure the student is on task. They would also require ILP or individual lesson plans. ADHD students would need long term projects and complex assignments broken down into smaller more manageable segments and would need the curriculum and grading expectations adjusted according to the student's ability. You could also pair an ADHD student with another student in the class to help them with simple task and assignments. • 11. Developmentally Appropriate Practices ( Dap ) Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) is a method of teaching that is based on the research about how young children grow and learn and includes standards for high quality care and education for young children. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) established these guidelines more than 20 years ago. Authors Gordon and Browne state, "The DAP approach stresses the need for activity–based learning environments and is based on what we know about children through years of child development research and what we observe of their interests, abilities, and needs" (40). The three core components of DAP are: 1) what is known about child development and learning, 2) what is known about each child, and 3) what is known about social and cultural contexts in which children learn. A DAP classroom is a busy classroom where students are engaged and interacting physically with objects and persons. This classroom is full of materials, activities, and direct interactions that lead the student into active learning. The observations for this report were conducted at the Laredo Community College Camilo Prada Early Child Development Center in the blue classroom. OBSERVATION SUMMARY #1– INDOOR SPACE . This classroom consists of two rooms which are connected to each other. One room only has a large circle rug and a rectangular table. One of the major things I noticed in this category is adults helping children with social behavior and peers. The teachers does this very well and is always trying to teach the students how to avoid conflict. In this age group children tend to be egocentric and have trouble sharing with their peers so I have seen many instances of children walking over and grabbing an object out of another student 's hand. But when this does happen the teacher immediately notices and then asks them to "use their words" and to practice saying phrases like "Can I play with you please?" By doing so, this helps with their social development since they are learning how to cooperate and resolve conflicts. Their daily routine is also well structured, balanced, and flexible. In order, their schedule consist of arrival and play, morning meeting, small group activity, outside play, snack, large group activity, closing activity/song, and parent pickup. I have learned throughout the years that this is not always true, and that it is very important to have a classroom management plan ready every year before school starts. As a teacher, it is my job to provide a safe environment where my students feel welcome, and can receive the qualityeducation they deserve. I believe that I should be assertive with discipline and teaching, have an organized, well–managed classroom, and teach students important social skills and how to behave appropriately in different situations they may encounter throughout their lives. Generally, this article talks about how classroom discourse and student learning interact with one another. The author quoted Daniels (2001 cited in Alexander, 2004:8) that classroom talk not only mediates teaching and learning but the wider culture. The author also quoted Barnes (1992:124) that learning is not simply adding bits of information to the previous knowledge but it is a matter of "working on understanding." There are some things as a future educator that I would like to bring into the classroom that I feel would implement the classroom also. The three things that I feel are very positive for the children and that I feel makes the classroom a positive environment is for starters the artwork and their writings placed around the room. In Kate Lunau's article, "The touch–screen classroom: How technology can reinvent how and where children learn," written for the website MacLean.ca's in January 2012, Lunau details many reinventive ways technology is being used in grade school classrooms. The magazine, Macleans.ca, is a Canadian current affairs publication, which covers stories from the fields of international affairs, social issues, national politics, business and culture. Lunau's main arguments in the article are that technology in the classroom has already changing how and where students learn and more changes will happen. Also, that these changes to the tools used to teach children, are not fundamentally bad. Within the article Lunau identifies several common negative concerns that parents and education administrators have on the idea of incorporating technology in the classroom. These concerns included that technology will distract students, it will promote cyber bullying and it will erode literacy skills. She addresses these concerns by introducing several strategies to mitigate and she offers several positive comments that may not be common in the conversation around technology in the classroom. This paper is the summary of research done about the inclusion act. The inclusion act is that students with disabilities are in classes with their general education peers. There are many views on the positive and negative results of inclusion. This paper covers the view points of the research, the parent's view, the student's view, and the teacher's view. An article from the University of Oregon researches if it is beneficial to place students in an inclusive setting. In the article it first defines what inclusion is. Inclusion is, "defined as providing specially designed instruction and supports for the students with special needs in the context of the regular education settings" (Moore p. 1). The article was interesting because it mentioned that research had found that, "Instruction not setting, is the key to achievement of success as measured by student outcomes" (Moore p. 1). The article also taught us the difference between mainstreaming and inclusion. 2). The article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By this we mean individual or collective subjects who are faced with a field of possibilities in which several ways of behaving, several reactions and diverse compartments may be realized." (Foucault) Foucault and Heidegger, modern philosophers, both describe power in these terms, as the facility to manipulate an object without force. Unfortunately, the majority of status quo disciplinary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The truth is that students are the only ones who can make the decision to behave well or conform to teacher expectations. Recognizing this leads one to note that instead of forcing a student to behave well, a teacher needs to influence a student in a positive way. The question is what does a teacher do to positively influence students without exerting coercive control? Gordon points out that the best way to resolve and prevent situations of misbehavior and deviance in the classroom is to first recognize who owns the problem. In a situation where students are disrupting the class, for example, a teacher should be sure to use messages to indicate that the problem is affecting the teacher in a negative way, forcing the students to decide if they want to continue their disruptive activity instead of immediately going on the defensive against what they may think is an over controlling warden. Additionally, using the no–lose method of conflict resolution allows students to have a positive way out of a bad situation, instead of a forced punishment with no control over the situation. By allowing the student to have power over the student, the teacher in these instances is able to wield true power and is more likely to maintain a well behaved and efficient classroom environment. In the same way that teachers should use true power in confrontational situations, where the teacher has the problem, the teacher should also use true power in situations where ... The ability to enforce the rules with a reward incentive would be easy to explain to all students and would be exciting. The teacher and students will gather in a circle in the classroom and everyone will have the chance to take turns sharing something about themselves or something on their mind. For example, students could throw a ball around in the circle and whoever catches the ball has to share something with the class and then they pass the ball around. One teacher conducted the "Toilet Paper Game" in her classroom on the first day of school, where a roll of toilet paper was passed around the classroom and each student "took what he or she needed". • 27. The Ugly Truth About Mainstreaming Classrooms The Ugly Truth About Mainstreaming Classrooms Gabrielle Wooten Towson University Abstract Full inclusion classrooms hinder the disabled students' abilities by making the students feel isolated, causing lower grades, and lacking the proper help the students need to succeed. These disadvantages and the support used proves that the segregated classroom allow the special needs students to focus and the general students to not be distracted as well. With the students undivided attention, the students', in excluded classrooms, grades improve greatly. As more people know about full inclusion, there is more of a chance to keep it out of school systems everywhere. Introduction Full inclusion or mainstreaming classrooms is when special needs students are assimilated into a general classroom setting. On the other hand, the special needs classrooms are set aside to allow disabled students to learn at a different pace with a certified teacher. The census has reported "Of the 53.9 million school–aged children (aged 5 to 17) in the U.S. civilian no institutionalized population, about 2.8 million were reported to have a disability in 2010 "(Brault, 2011, p. 1). • 28. Technology In Anna Johanson's Five Myths About Classroom... Walking into a classroom full of students using school devices such as laptops, tablets, or smart boards, has become part of the new generation. Technology has advanced throughout the decades, completely taking over whiteboards, paper, and textbooks. This advanced technology is causing textbooks to be in risk of extinction and hardly to be used. However, some may suggest that technology supports students by having access to the internet to search for essential information, and the information can be found in matter of seconds. Learning technology in a classroom setting puts students at risk of having distractions, experiencing technological delays, and increasing health problems. Non–technological methods such as textbooks, paper packets, and white boards help students have more focus and help students memorize class content and help interact with their peer members. Teachers do not know what students are doing when they have their devices out. Students might be on the website that they are supposed to be on or might be on a different website that is not school related. But usually when a teacher checks up on their students to see how their work is going, the students quickly go to the site where they are suppose to be in. Similar to objectives being created based on unit topic the teachers will create themes and then structure specific quests for these themes. These quests include questions or scenarios which should pose as a challenge for the students in a game–based style. Students will be taught about the material required to complete the quests and boss levels. They will be given the overall theme and missions along with the quests and boss levels to become familiar with the content as well as to get them motivated to participate in an effort to accomplish the goals. Students will be introduced to both smaller quests as well as robust quest similar to the games they play outside of the classroom. These quests will be carried out either individually ... • 33. Classroom Comparison Paper Classroom Comparison Rationale and theoretical framework Early childhood classrooms provide children experiences that consider as an significant predictor of future academic success (Sandilos et. al, 2004). While UNICEF (2000) defines quality in education, UNICEF also mentions about importance of the physical environment in a quality education. The tables, seats and work spaces in the classroom are the component of the physical environment of classroom (Uludag, 2008). The ways of teachers utilize the component of the physical environment influences their practice, students' attitude towards kindergarten classroom, peer relationships and the finally the quality of the education (Celik & Kok, 2007; Karip, 2007). It is inevitable that while teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suchar (1997) suggests that considering research questions is beneficial for researcher, while creating a photo shooting script by considering the research questions: What are Thirdspaces that teachers created in the classroom? What are the teachers' consideration while creating a space in the classroom? What are the ideology or rules and values to entirety of environment? As you can see, first research question is relevant to Thirdspace which is a combination of observable environment (Firstspace) and interpretation of creative person (Secondspace). In this regard, the participant should provide a picture of the classroom (Firstspace) and learning stations which she created based on her teaching philosophy and students' interest in her classroom which is Thirdspace. 1.Take a photo of classroom's each wall 2.Take a photo from the each corner of the classroom 3.Take a photo of each learning ... • 34. It 's Important For Educator For Foster Diversity... Venassa Simpson October 27, 2015 It's important for educator to foster diversity education and create inclusive classroom that honor the multiplicity of identities and knowledge different students bring into classroom. Students and faculty in schools today are becoming increasingly diverse in their backgrounds and experiences, reflecting the diversity observed in our broader society. The center for teaching is committed to supporting diversity mostly as it meets with the wide range of teaching and learning. There are no specific rules for responding to ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity in the classroom. Furthermore, making your classroom inviting and comfortable to help with ideas and resources will benefit student success appropriately. Perhaps the usual value is to be thoughtful and sensitive. Creating a physical environment of classroom also reflect expectation of student, if students are perceived to be lacking, the education environment may reflect as plain. If students are perceived as intelligent and motivated as having interest in the world around them, the education environment tends to reflect an intellectually and academically, a place where learning is considerable comfortable and confident as learners. The environment is classroom are not cared for when they become neglected and the ideal and real is lost on the students Additionally, to create a physical environment in class room is by adding bright posters, organized spaces and supportive learning. ... • 35. Essay about Full Inclusion in US Classrooms People with disabilities have long suffered from discrimination and segregation. In the 1880, people with hearing, visual, physical, mental or emotional impairments were sent to be educated in residential institutions or asylums. ("Issues about Change) Parents and family of those with disabilities put pressure on our government and legislation to develop and provide equal access to education by way of mainstreaming or special education. Section 504 of Public Law 93–112 passed in 1973 had far reaching effect on exclusion and discrimination. (Gollnick and Chinn p. 168) This law did for those with disabilities that Title IX did for females and education; it provided access and participation in regular education and extracurricular... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teaching students with exceptional abilities requires funding, training and planning. Being in a regular classroom with children from various cultures, ethnic backgrounds and intellectual ability help students learn how to work together toward a common goal: reduce discrimination and stereotyping people with physical and mental limitations. Instructional strategies that break the work down so everyone learns better can improve education as well as reduce cost. This is achieved by including special education students in environments that will allow them to develop normal social interactions as well as receive specific attention to their learning needs. ("What is Special Education") Children with disabilities need to be recognized as individuals as well as be valued for the people they will grow to be. In the classroom the growing process can be difficult to achieve depending on the nature and severity of the disability. Not all children will be served by full inclusion, some students have disabilities that require medical attention or physical facilities such as specially equipped bathrooms, ramps or elevators that may not be found in the traditional school building. For example, a child with severe cerebral palsy with severe limb constriction, lack of bowel control, inability to feed themselves and confined to a wheelchair, inclusion could cause more harm than good. This student requires medical aid to care for physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Classroom, Stereotypes About Mathematics Abound In the classroom, stereotypes about mathematics abound. "Boys are better at math than girls" or "most people are not that good at math; therefore it is no big deal if I am not" are just a few of the common attitudes that teachers must be aware of and combat as to not allow them to become self–fulfilling prophecies for their students. BLA BLA BLA THIS IS INTRO HERE Mathematical Foundations It is imperative that learners have a rich understanding of numerical concepts. Many of the later math disciplines and skills that students will encounter are going to require knowledge and application of basic numeracy skills. Merely following steps in a process (e.g. multiplying fractions) or using an algorithm without knowing what is happening to the numbers, will leave the student void of true understanding and in turn, inhibit the path of learning. For example, imagine a scenario where a student who was never able to understand primary concepts related to prime and composite numbers finds him or herself in a classroom years later that requires factoring trinomials. Teachers may never be able to make math easy for their students, but they can support students in a way that enables them to be successful by ensuring they teach it in a way that promotes genuine understanding and knowledge of numerical content. Early learners need to recognize that numbers represent a quantity and mean something. It is folly to assume that a student who can orally pronounce number names or ... • 37. Essay about The Effectiveness of Weblogs in the Classroom The Effectiveness of Weblogs in the Classroom The internet has proven that it can be a very reasonable and valuable tool for research and communication within the classroom setting. Over the past decade, it has redeveloped the way students retrieve and use information, claims Richardson (2004). Richardson continues that until now it was not very clear if the internet provided students with anything more than a vast tool for research. One application that has altered this perception is the "weblog." The introduction of weblogs within school systems has really made a profound impact on the way children learn. According to Richardson (2004), "Weblogs are redefining the way students and teachers use the internet, turning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some more serious than others, are changing the way we as humans interact and perform tasks. Weblogs have become easier to use over the past few years. Blogging software has improved immensely and one does not need to know html code to have a weblog on the internet (Australia). There are simple guides and tutorials posted on the internet to help those who lack knowledge in the interactive journal experience. Most of the specialized software is publicly accessible through different servers including Xanga, blogspot, and Schoolblogs. These servers do not require that you download any tools and they are free to the public. Stach (2004) suggests, when registering for a weblog, very little information is required and anonymity is reserved. "Weblogs offer a communication medium that is more structured that an e–mail list and more focused than a discussion board" suggests Kajder (2003). Weblogs are also hyperactive, meaning that the author of a blog has the ability to place links within their writings (Stach 2004). This gives us the capability of posting interesting findings on the internet for others to read (Stach 2004). There are many weblogs dedicated to the topic of education. Many more school systems are taking on the use of weblogs to ensure communication amongst students, faculty, and guardians (Richardson, 2004). They are also being used to achieve and display the ... It can become a valuable tool in helping children to understand their home, communities and the world in which they live. Through literature children's vocabulary, imaginations, and self understanding is built. Children should be exposed to literature that is age appropriate and within the context of learning respect for themselves and others by the diversity of the books. Don't combine the history of the North with the South, or urban with rural settings. Patricia Polacco states that books should do a good job bridging the gap by having respect for the people who are different. Give the correct portrayal of Jews with strong plots and believable characters. Yumi Heo states wrote two books that correctly depicted the Korean immigrant experience. Choose books that exhibit values of Asian cultures such as respect for elders. Be sure to include setting from the United States as well as other countries providing cultural roots for Asian–American students. While choosing multicultural literature the story should be interesting to the children, characters should represent the culture of the people, the illustrations should represent diversity, and most of all the books should be age appropriate. Today's classroom is very diverse and the activities should represent the classroom culture. The development of children is centered on what is taught in the classroom. Therefore, the language, intellectual, personality, social and moral, and aesthetic and creative development of preschool age children should be enhanced through multicultural activities and lessons. Language According to Giorgins, C. & Glazer, J. (2008) a developmental goal for language would be that children will be able to expand their vocabularies (130).
