On the 19th September 2019, Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, Head of Counter-Terrorism at the Metropolitan Police, said around 10% of 800 live investigations now involve far-right extremists, a ‘significant increase’ on previous years.
Although he added that Islamist jihadism is ‘still by far globally the biggest threat people face’, a quarter of all terrorism arrests in the UK over the previous year were linked to far-right violence. It’s clear that the growing threat of right-wing extremism must be acknowledged and monitored carefully.

3. Ideologies Behind Right Wing Terrorism
Extremism is the activity of individuals or campaign groups that carry
out criminal acts in furtherance of a campaign or political goal.
There is a Spectrum of groups & beliefs within the extremist Right
Wing which have been separated into three broad strands. Whilst the
Police will always where practicable facilitate legal and lawful protest,
these groups or beliefs could influence others whether directly or
indirectly associated with them to commit Terrorist offences.
Counter-Terrorism Policing require the assistance of the Policing family
to be aware of what to look out for and provide information
across the Right Wing spectrum so the threat can be
assessed.
