2. • To make my magazine appeal to my target
audience of teenage girls who like hip-hop
music and fashion, I wrote in a pink font on
my double page spread to connote femininity.
I also used female models throughout as the
magazine is aimed at females and is about
fashion, so the model needs to be female. To
make my magazine appeal to females who
like hip hop music, I used language such as
“beatz” to connote the urban genre. I made
the price cheap so that my target audience
would be able to afford it as students often
don’t have a great amount of money.
3. • When I showed my
magazine front cover to
my audience focus group
the response was fairly
positive, I think I was
successful in the colour
co-ordination as most of
my focus group said they
liked how the colour of
the text matched the
colour of the models
jumper. However, one
said that orange may not
fit my genre very well,
that makes my magazine
less successful as a lot of
the front cover is in
orange. To improve this
and make my magazine
front cover more of a
success, I could change
what the model is
wearing, so that the rest
of the magazine is in a
different colour that may
suit my target audience
better.
4. • From the feedback from my
audience focus group I
think that my contents
page was a success as they
liked the way that I wrote
“contents”, I wrote it like
this to connote that people
into urban music don’t
always stick to the
expected conventions of a
magazine, and do things
slightly differently at times.
They also commented on
my use of pictures, one of I think the
my models had magazine is
headphones around her
neck to connote that it is a successful in
music magazine, also they that my target
were both wearing hip hop
type clothes to fit into my audience were
genre. able to
recognise what
genre the
magazine was.
5. • I think that my double
page was successful in
attracting my target
audience because my
audience got the
preferred reading from
my text and understood
that I was trying to
make my model look
like she was laid back to
suit the hip hop genre.
My focus group also
commented on the
colour of my writing and
how the colours
contrast, I also chose
this colour as I think
that the colour pink
connotes femininity and
my magazine is aimed at
a female audience. I’m
glad that the magazine
looks modern as that’s
what the hip hop genre
conveys. I wanted the
one picture to stand out
as a feature picture and
I wanted to show off the
outfit as this part of the
magazine is about
fashion, I think that my
audience focus group
recognised this.
