This document discusses fatigue, including its causes and prevention. It defines fatigue as a feeling of tiredness with both physical and mental causes. Physically, fatigue is a temporary inability of muscles or the neuromuscular junction to perform optimally. Mentally, fatigue decreases maximal cognitive performance. Common causes include overexertion, stress, lack of sleep, illness, blood loss, and vitamin/mineral deficiencies. The document recommends managing stress, exercising, eating healthy, avoiding substances like alcohol, smoking and caffeine, and getting sufficient sleep to prevent fatigue.

2. FATIGUE
Fatigue (also called as tiredness, exhaustion,
languidness, languor, lassitude and listlessness) is a
subjective feeling of tiredness which is distinct from
weakness, and has a gradual onset.
Fatigue can have physical as well as mental causes.

3. PHYSICAL FATIGUE
Physical fatigue is the transient inability of a muscle
to maintain optimal physical performance, and is
made more severe by intense physical exercise.
Mental fatigue is a transient decrease in maximal
cognitive performance resulting from prolonged
periods of cognitive activity.

4. CAUSES OF FATIGUE
Fatigue is a normal result of working, mental stress,
overstimulation and under stimulation, jet lag or over
recreation, depression and boredom, disease and
lack of sleep.
May have chemical causes such as poisoning,
minerals or vitamin deficiencies.
Chronic blood loss frequently results in fatigue, as do
other conditions which causes anaemia.

5. CAUSES OF FATIGUE
Temporary fatigue is likely to be a minor illness like
the common cold as one part of the sickness
behaviour response that happens when the immune
system fights an infection.

6. PHYSICAL FATIGUE
Physical or muscle fatigue is the temporary inability
of a muscle to perform optimally.
The onset of muscle fatigue during physical activity
is gradual, and depends upon an individual's level of
physical fitness and also upon other factors such as
sleep deprivation and overall health.
Physical fatigue can be cause by lack of energy in
the muscle, by a decrease of the efficiency of the
neuromuscular junction or by reduction of the drive
originating from the central nervous system.

7. MENTAL FATIGUE
Mental fatigue is a temporary inability to maintain
optimal cognitive performance.
Mental fatigue has also been shown to decrease
physical performance. It can manifest as
somnolence, lethargy or directed attention fatigue.
Decreased attention is known as ego depletion. It
may be also described as a more or less decreased
level of consciousness.

8. PREVENTION OF FATIGUE
Manage stress and relaxation techniques
Exercise
Good and healthy diet
Avoid smoking, consumption of alcohol and
excessive caffeine
Get enough sleep and have a good and consistent
sleep
