3. What is Stress?
Stress can be defined as any type of
change that causes physical, emotional, or
psychological strain1. Stress is body's
response to anything that requires
attention or action. Everyone experiences
stress to some degree. The way you
respond to stress, however, makes a big
difference to your overall well-being.
4. Eustress & Distress:
Eustress is Positive that is healthy, improves your well
being , and results in satisfaction.
Following are the characteristics of Eustress:
It motivates, focuses energy.
It is short-term.
It is perceived as within our coping abilities.
One feels exciting about it.
It improves performance.

5. Distress:
Distress is a Negative kind of stress that includes
feelings associated with both depression and anxiety.
Following are the characteristics of Distress:
• It can be short- or long-term.
• It is perceived as outside of one’s coping abilities.
• It decreases performance.
• One feels unpleasant about it.
• It can lead to mental and physical problems.

9. Case Study:
Due to rising cases of covid-19 WHO declared Covid-19 as pandemic
& Government started nationwide lockdown. Covid-19 pandemic
affected peoples in many ways. People who were suffering from
covid-19 were isolated and quarantine. It disturbed normal routine of
people and give stress resulting in emotional and behavioural
manifestation and creates feeling of loneliness, depression, evoke fear.
Due to Covid-19 many people lost their loved ones & many people
lost their jobs which result in stress, depression, anxiety and it has
also lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the long run.
10. Remedies to deal with Stress:
1. Exercise regularly : Being physically active is always good for our overall
health. It can help release tension, relax the mind and body, and help you
think clearly. All of these are helpful in relieving stress levels.
2. Meditation : Meditation can help to slow racing thoughts, making it easier
to manage stress and anxiety.
3. Eat healthily : Diet affects every aspect of your health, including your
mental health. The nutrients you take from food are all healthy for the
brain and body. Your meals should contain the right amounts of protein,
healthy fats, carbs, and fibre. These are macronutrients that provide energy,
keep you focused and alert, and boost your mood.
11. 4. Get enough sleep : Getting enough sleep for 7-8 hours recharge your
body and allow you to rest.
5. Spend time with friends and family : Social support from friends and
family may help you get through stressful times and cope with stress.
6. Yoga : Yoga is another good workout for stress. Yoga is not just an
exercise. It is an attuning of one’s life with principles of soundness in
physical and mental and spiritual health.
7. Learn to laugh : The stressors may be the same. But different people
respond to them in different ways. Some brood over them and fall in
distress. Some Learn to laugh way effectively dealing with them.
Laughing is prescribed to be the best medicine for stress.

1. Psychological strain - A strain consists of at least two stressors, either pulling or
pushing an individual in different directions. A single directional stress is usually
less devastating to an individual's psychological wellbeing than a strain. A person
may have experienced numerous stresses but not many strains.
2. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) - It is a mental health condition that's
triggered by a terrifying event either experiencing it or witnessing it.
