The Dark Knight Analysis
The Dark Knight is a superhero movie and is part of a sequel. It comes second after Batman Begins. It is a fantastic
movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The main Theme of this movie is Faith. The plot and Characters develop this
theme in a few ways. When the film opens up we have a bank robbery scene in the city of gotham and we encounter
the joker, our antagonist. Because of this we see a chain of crimes happening around the city and the people of
Gotham turn their faith toward the Batman. This is the basic plot of the film where the protagonists are trying to
restore people's faith back into the city and the police force. The characters develop this theme by carrying out the

When you think of psychology what is the the first name that comes to mind? My guess is that you thought of
Sigmund Freud. Even though none of his theories of dreams or sexuality have any empirical evidence, he is still one
of the most influential figures in all of philosophy. One of Freud's ideas that does have substance is the idea that our
minds are dynamic and contain both conscious and unconscious memories, thoughts, and desires. Freud labeled
these phenomena the id, ego, and superego. While the nuances of this theory are complex and somewhat
monotonous, they are brought to life in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. The chaotic and childish joker (id),
the pure and valiant Harvey Dent (superego), and the one responsible for finding a balance between the two, Batman

could not be the first responder to. But of course, the Gotham Police are on a different level of skill in the crime–
stopping field, therefore, the offenders escaped the scene. Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's butler, enters the
Batcave in his typical dress, a tuxedo. "Any updates on the robbery, Master Bruce?" asked Alfred with his
sophisticated English accent. Bruce says with a sigh, "I'm afraid not, Alfred." "Well, I brought you some coffee in
case you are down here for a while more." The butler said. "Thanks Alfred." Said Bruce. "Always welcome, Master

(WORKING TITLE) Batman's duality as hero and hazard reflect how the capitalism present in America is both the
problem and solution. As the third installment in the Batman trilogy, a different tone is used when the hero is
introduced in the beginning scene. In the preceding films, the hero has been seen righting wrongs and serving justice
by banishing the manipulative, toxic and evil villains Gotham is infested with. In the opening scene of The Dark
Knight Rises, Commissioner Gordon delivers a speech to honor the late Harvey Dent, former Gotham mayor, and
his major contribution in ridding the city's criminal activity. Dent was a symbol of hope and restoration from the
economic decline Gotham faced and the gang activity that terrorized the streets. Batman 2: The Dark Knight
introduced the villainous Joker and his psychotic madness which led to Dent's own decline when the madman kills
Dent's lover. This sparked Dent's own madness and list of homicides. Wanting to preserve the hope Dent instilled
onto the people and prevent chaos, Batman takes the blame for Dent's transgression. And so, begins the duality of

Harold and Maude, a movie directed by Hal Ashby and released in the 1970's, did not receive much attention and
popularity when first released. Since the movie depicted obsession with suicide through a 20–year–old character
Harold, the movie received backlash because during the 1970's there were high rates of suicides among teenagers
and college students. However, over time college students found the movie very entertaining, therefore bringing the
movie into the lights and making it a cult hit. In Blue Velvet, a neo–noir mystery film directed by David Lynch and
released in 1986, received a variety of critical responses from a wide range of audience, but this movie's unique
style earned Lynch his second nomination for Best Director. The idea of innocent getting caught in a web of evil is
portrayed through the character Jeffrey Beaumont, who first encounter's a severed ear in a grassy abandoned field.
In this paper I will compare and contrast these two movies that include key actors Bud Cort, played as Harold, and
Kyle MacLachlan, played as Jeffrey and include a few key points that have made these movies enjoyable to watch.

There are many successful directors who have produced at least one blockbuster film that is critically acclaimed,
and Christopher Nolan has been able to do this several times. Christopher Nolan began directing movies in 1998 and
has directed fourteen movies since 1998. The film critic Alissa Wilkinson notes in her article The films of
Christopher Nolan, explained, "Nolan has shown himself to be interested in both entertaining audiences and making
them think, in pushing the boundaries of what they believe a movie can and should be". Christopher Nolan also
often deals with the subjects of time, memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of
Nolan's most prominent films through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and Inception(2010). Both
of the films show how Nolan's movies end ambiguously and how each protagonists in his films has an antagonist
with opposite philosophies and beliefs.
Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views and beliefs. The
movie includes examples of the belief that the world is real conflicting with the belief that the world is a dream with
death as the only way out. For instance in one part of the movie Dom is argueing with Mal that they are in the real

Over the years, Batman's character had become a household name when discussing anti–heroes from the DC
universe. Although not every comic book fan would consider him an anti–hero, people would still associate anger
and broodiness when referring to the character of Bruce Wayne due to his apparent dark nature. Frank Miller's the
Dark Knight Returns had changed things; not just did it focus on Batman's broody nature, but it had also expanded
on the internal battles that had been the cause of the darkness and the reason for Batman's questionable methods.
Miller managed to bring needed humanity to Batman that had been missing in earlier ages. The qualities that made
the Dark Knight more in touch with his humanity were; having his origin story trauma affect him until adulthood,
experiencing internal psychological conflict, and possessing moral flaws.

seemed that Bruce's childhood trauma of seeing his parents killed had followed him into his adulthood. On pages
22, the reader was clearly able to understand Bruce's internal battle as he attempted to convince himself that "[ the

each other." Joker gives a rather chilling observation of how people would behave in the absence of laws. Along
with this scene, there are many other scenes in The Dark Knight where Joker suggests the evil nature of humanity.

The Dark Knight opens with a classic robbery scene that makes the argument, that there is a code among criminals
that should be adhered to. Towards the end of the scene we see the bank manager talking to the Joker exclaiming

same "honor" and will do what he wants, like murder the people who help him rob the bank, to bring chaos and

People similar to myself may be considered goody–two–shoes, if that is still a relevant saying. I think about my past
and there has never been a time when I deliberately wanted to bend the rules or felt comfortable doing so. I consider
myself a classical person. I enjoy understanding the mechanics behind working systems, but find it hard to be
spontaneous and go with the flow of things. I feel as if the classical kind of person is more likely to struggle living
an anti–authoritarianism lifestyle due to the fact that for underlying objects to work there must be structure. An
example in reference to ZAMM may be the common topic of motorcycles. John is very much pleased with his
BMW because he loves the aesthetics. The outer shell, or aesthetic, may be considered an authority. While the

Alienation in the Lives of Chief Bromden and Holden Caulfield
As one is experiencing a life of alienation and loneliness, they may being to act uncontrollable while rebelling
against their surroundings, one loses themselves as they feel different than everyone present. Alienation can force an
individual to spiral into an abyss of nothingness, nonetheless if one allows others to reach out and inspire than it is
possible to break away from the alienation and loneliness. Chief Bromden from the novel One Flew Over the
Cuckoo's Nest, written by Ken Kesey, is an Indian who was institutionalized for insanity and is considered a chronic
in the ward as he is "too far gone" to be healed. Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D
Salinger is a lying, rebellious teenager sent away by his parents to a private school as they are unable to handle
Holden's behaviour. It is evident both experience alienation as their stories progress and actions taken, however the
individuals present in their lives motivate changes in the outcomes of these dynamic characters.
Firstly, the prominent motif in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is invisibility, Chief Bromden was seen as invisible
in his childhood as well as on the ward. Once as a child on the reserve with his family, a group of appraisers

According to Batman, Gotham needs a masked vigilante to swiftly restore justice and order to the city. Police
officers are openly crooked, while politicians and judges are in the pockets of the mobsters. By the time of The Dark
Knight, things have started to improved in Gotham. Batman and Lieutenant Jim Gordon, have had astonishing
success fighting the mob in Gotham. Their success has been paralleled by that of District Attorney Harvey Dent,
Gotham's "white knight." He is seemingly incorruptible and is the just politician that Gotham has been lacking.
Justice can prevail outside the law in The Dark Knight, because the Joker, an anarchist villain, is defeated and order

They both share a status that goes beyond the inadequacies of the law. Both are figures who devote themselves to an
ethical principle. For Batman, this is fighting Gotham's corruption. Even when this principle causes them harm or
threatens their happiness, they nonetheless adhere to it In The Dark Knight, when the law's inadequacy is evident,
the need for the heroic exception becomes ever more striking. Batman's vigilantism is a heroic exception to the law.
Batman provides a temporary solution for Gotham in dealing with criminals, that cannot be apprehended through
legal manners alone. Batman and Lieutenant Gordon have been successfully combating the mob by constricting its
cash flow. Lau, the mob's money launderer, fled to Hong Kong, beyond Dent's jurisdiction, when his involvement
with the mob became apparent. The Joker tells Gotham's mobsters that, "Batman has no jurisdiction." Sure enough,
Gordon and Dent turn to Batman to ensure Lau's return to their jurisdiction. Batman forcibly returned Lau from
Hong Kong, and the leaders of Gotham's mob are arrested for racketeering as a result of Lau's testimony. The legal
policy to extradite a criminal requires a lot time, evidence, and foreign communication. Batman is not confined by
the same limits of the law concerning government officials. Batman's means for capturing Gotham's villains and
restoring justice are outside of the law, however police officer seem to put little effort into taking him
