2. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
 Mario Testino OBE is a Peruvian fashion and portrait
photographer. His work has featured internationally in
magazines such as Vogue, V Magazine, Vanity Fair and GQ.
He was born October 30, 1954 and studied at the University of
the Pacific and the University of San Diego. In 1976 he went to
London to study photography after abandoning his studies of
Economics, Law and International Affairs. He had his hair
dyed pink which helped him get noticed as a photographer.
Testino has become one of the world’s most well known and
celebrated fashion photographers. He has documented
subjects from A-list stars, musicians, supermodels and artists as
well as subjects he has encountered throughout his travels.

4. The two main subjects of this image are clearly the dog and the man.
This is made clear by the fact that these are the only two subjects in
the image and are very large. The meaning of this image is to show
anger, this is made clear by the expression of the man, Tom Brady, and
the anger of the dog is shown via its mouth being wide open showing
its vicious teeth. Despite their obviously differences, the expression of
which they are giving off are very similar.
The use of high key lighting in this portraiture photograph is not to
express happiness, but is to brighten up the main subjects face and
make their expressions clearer. The matte black suit adds to the
intensity of the photo as black is very dark, which relates to the
emotion of anger. Additionally, the black suit, hair and beard make the
photo look very professional as they match the fur of the dog. Also, the
rule of thirds is used in this image very well as the direct middle of the
photo shows both the main subjects and makes it clear that this is what
they want the viewers to focus on. The photo is in deep focus as the
whole image is in focus because it doesn’t want to audience to focus
on anything too specific, just the two subjects.
Fast shutter speed must have been used here as it is near enough
impossible to make a dog remain in such a position therefore the
photographer will take several fast shots of the subjects changing their
facial expression until they find the best one.

6. The unique fashion of these two subjects instantly caught my
attention, it made me link back to fashion in the 70’s which was an
unusual time. The image has a wide focus as the background behind
the two main subjects are clear which indicates the photographer
does not want you to focus on anything specific just the two people
and the clothes in the background. The clothes stall in the
background and the crazy style of the two subjects makes me
believe that the purpose of this image is to show the fashion of the
70’s. The two main subjects at the front have a strange pattern under
their eyes, I assume this is some sort of fashion statement along with
fury jacket and leotard looking outfits. The two main subjects are
positioned in the central block when thinking about the rule of thirds
so viewers know that these are the most important subjects.
Natural lighting is used in the image, this had to be used in order the
be outside and show the clothes stand in the background, the
lighting makes the faces of the subjects stand out more. Both of their
expressions are very bland, this may be because this photo is not
made to provoke emotion but to show the fashion

8. The positioning of the subjects directly make me look in the
middle block when considering the rule of thirds, this is done to
ensure the viewers are aware these are the main subjects, Kate
Middleton and Prince William. High key lighting is used in this
photo through natural lighting, this has been done purposefully
as the subjects have been positioned directly in front on a
window. The bright lighting and gleaming smiles from both the
subject indicate that they are very happy and this creates an
aura of which makes the viewers feel happy also.
It is a very narrow frame of the two subjects positioned very close
hugging each other, this is done to make them fill the whole
image and hugging indicates that they have a very close
relationship and are very comfortable which adds to the
happiness of the image. I also immediately saw the ring of which
Kate is wearing, this could’ve been positioned here purposefully
to show there audience that these subjects are wealthy.
