Mario Testino is a famous fashion photographer from Peru. He grew up in a large Catholic family and initially studied economics before abandoning his studies to pursue photography in London. Testino has since become one of the most renowned fashion photographers in the world, photographing celebrities and supermodels for major magazines. He has also done significant charitable work supporting organizations like Save the Children.

2. Mario Testino grew up in Lima to a traditional catholic family, he was the oldest out of their 6
children. When he was a child he wanted to be a priest and studied Economics at university del
pacífico. In 1976 Mario went to London to study photography after he abandoned his studies of
economics, law and international affairs. While he was living in poor conditions he became a waiter
so he could make a bit of money and also dyed his hair pink which then helped him to get notice
later on.
Testino has worked with many charities such as Save The Children, amfAR, Elton john AIDS
foundation and CLIC Sargent. Whilst he has been working with these foundations he has also helped
raise a lot of money for these and helped them a lot.
Mario Testino has become one of the worlds most famous fashion photographers. He has
documented subjects from A – list stars to musicians and supermodels. His work has also featured
in magazines such as Vogue, V magazine, vanity fair, GQ, Love, Allure and Vman. He has also
published many books and exhibitions.

his dog are the only subjects in the photo and they are the largest thing in the photo meaning they
are the most important. The meaning of this photo is to show anger in both a human and an animal
which you can tell from the expressions of the man and the dog. The dog has his mouth open and
his teeth out to show anger and him being fierce which the man also is doing replicating the dog.
There is high key lighting in this photo to light up the dog and the mans faces to make them stand
out in the picture because the background is dark. This also helps you focus more on the man and
the dogs expressions. The colours in the photo are very dull and bland with a grey background. The
dog is black and brown and the mans suit, shirt and tie are black which match with the dog and also
shows a bit of mystery and fear. The man and dog are in the middle of the shot which connects to
the rule of thirds, this is because they are what the photo wants you to focus on and to make them
stand out. Deep focus has been used in this photo because the whole thing is in focus because it
doesn’t want you to focus on anything specific just the two subjects in the middle.
Fast shutter speed has been used on the camera here, this has been done because this man is
modelling with the dog and wont just be pulling that face, He will be pulling multiple faces and the
photographer will be taking quick snaps to get multiple pictures until he finds the right one.

thirds applies here because the two subjects would be in the middle squares which shows that they
are the main focus and the photo wants them to stand out. The photo has used deep focus because
all the photo is in focus and even the background is. This has been done because the photo wants
you to focus on the girls but also the things in the background of the photo. The shirts in the
background show religious symbols with crosses and other weird images, this could relate to the
two women in the photo because they are in focus and not blurred.
The two women in the photo are wearing unusual clothing with feathers on and leather clothes,
these are very unusual clothing to wear when going out so this makes you think and wonder what
they are doing and why they are doing it. The angling of the photo is very basic with a normal
camera shot and the two women giving direct address. From the positioning of these two subjects
you can tell that they know each other because they are right next to one another which indicates
comfort and they might be friends.
This image is in black and white, this gives the effect that the picture is old which relates to the
clothing they are wearing because going around now you wouldn’t see people wearing that kind of
clothing. Fast shutter speed has been used here because these two women are modelling and the
photographer will need to take quick shots of them so he can find the right pose and image overall.

they are both in focus meaning they are what the photographer wants you to focus on. The rule of thirds
applies here because they are both in the middle of the photo which would be the middle boxes on the rule
of thirds if you could see them this makes the audience look straight at them because anything you see you
will automatically look to the middle of that subject. The lighting in the photo is mostly natural because of
the window behind them but more lights will be used because there faces are brightly lit to make them
stand out more.
The framing of the shot have put them both in the middle and you cant really see anything else in the image
other than the window and the back wall, this is so you can only focus on them and make them stand out on
the white background. This shot has also been taken pretty close to them so you can see the emotion on
both of their faces which is laughter and happiness this also makes the audience feel happy because they
are looking at a photo where they are smiling and looking happy.
The colours are bright in this photo and give a warm feel to the photo because of their jumpers, this makes
the audience also feel warm and comfortable and gives the picture a nice feel to go with their happy
emotion. The subjects which in this case would be the two people are positioned next to each other and
they are hugging each other, this implies that they are close which they are and they have a comfortable
relationship with each other because of how close they are shown together. The angle of this photo is basic
which is just a normal shot of them in the middle and giving direct address to the camera, this gives a simple
effect to the photo which makes them look like they are looking at the audience that is looking at the image.
