3. Colour Scheme
On my contents page I used a red, gold, black and white colour scheme which
runs throughout my magazine. This is similar to Q’s although they do not use
gold. I chose to add gold in my magazine as gold symbolizes royalty and
wealth, making my magazine seem quite important and powerful.
Layout
Both my layout and Q’s layout are very similar and this is because I used Q’s
contents as a guide and as inspiration for my magazine, as they are a popular
and well respected magazine. I chose to have my features column to the left
of my contents page as people naturally read left to right, so their eyes will
see the features column first. I also have a smaller features column in the
bottom right of my page which is “alpha reviews”. This is similar to Q
magazine who have “Q review” in this place on their page.
4. Images
There are two images on my contents page which relate to articles that are
featured in the magazine. My dominant image is a mid to close up shot (of
the head and shoulders), with direct mode of address. This makes the image
seem more personal and the readers will be more involved with it, especially
seen as it is the cover story. My sub image is a mid shot with indirect mode of
address. Q magazine also have two images on their contents page. Q’s
dominant image is of a young female (which is the same as my dominant
image) and is also a mid to close up shot with direct mode of address. There
are no props used in Q’s dominant image, but I changed this with my image as
the model is wearing sunglasses, which fits with my genre and the indie style.
Q’s sub images features two men which is different to mine as my image only
has one female in it. Also the shot is a medium shot which has direct mode of
address.
Details
Neither on my magazine or Q’s magazine is there an editor’s note and I
decided not to include one as I did not feel it was important, and there was
no room for one on my magazine.
5. Masthead
My masthead “contents” is placed right at the top left of my contents page
and I felt it was important to have my masthead here so that the reader could
see it straight away. Q have also placed their masthead of “contents” in the
same place but they also have their Q logo alongside it, which I do not have.
Both my magazine and Q magazine have included the date and issue number
at the top of the contents page and I feel it is important to have these here as
they follow on from the essential information on the front cover.
