2. In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Magazine cover
Within my magazine I have taken inspiration from existing media content with indie genre conventions to help create my
magazine. I looked into not only existing indie magazines but indie artists and the type of magazines they appear on. For
example Lana Del Rey appeared on a popular magazine, Billboard. From this I have taken the natural surrounding
background idea and applied it to my front cover in a way which suits my house style which I wanted to create for the
magazine.
I also looked at vogue, which is a
fashion magazine, however included
the artist, Lana Del Rey. From this cover
I took and used this for my font and the
positioning of the masthead.
From the magazine ‘Carmen’ I liked the look of a mast head
being at the bottom of the cover and not conventionally at the
side or under the masthead. I look this and applied it to my
magazine
The brick wall which is seen on my cover
makes the image look less intentional and
more rustic which is what I wanted to
achieve.
3. Magazine cover: use, develop and challenge
I have used a banner to put
a cover line story from my
magazine in. This makes it
more interesting than just
having it on the
background, as well as
bringing attention to it.
I have chosen to have the color yellow featured
on the cover of my magazine. I think this stands
out from the neutral background and the white
which I have also used. This stands out without
becoming to pop and keeps in with my genre.
I decided to use a natural back ground, like this fashion magazine on the left. Even
though this is a fashion magazine the artist which is featured comes under the indie
genre, this giving the cover conventions of the genre. I did this by using a brick wall
behind my feature cover photo. This makes the image look less posed and looks more
natural, which appeals to an indie audience.

4. In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products? Contents page
I creating a
house style by
adding a
banner to my
contents page
and using the
color yellow.
The boarder around the page
and the numbers I used from the
contents page above. I felt this
made the information stand out
instead of it being on the
background image.
On the magazine to the left the main image used is used as the background image, from
this I took inspiration and used one of my images from my contents as my back ground.
The image which I used there was a rural/ natural feel to the image again, like my cover.
Unlike the image on the right where the models are leaning against a wall.
My contents page aspires to the house
style of my magazine which was set by
the cover. My cover has used different
aspects from a wide range of
magazines, however I have changed
and developed them so that they suit
my magazines house style and genre.
For example the use of a image as the
back ground.

5. In what ways does your magazine use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Double page spread
The use of darker colors behind the text I got from the contents page to the left. I felt
like this suited and complimented the artist, as he is older and within the indie
umbrella. I have also used the positioning of the main image within my double page
spread. I have placed it in the bottom left hand corner (image placed on left side).

Challenge
From this magazine I took the use
of boxes around the text and
developed it so it would be
different and fit in with my
magazines house style. I decided to
outline some of the text with a
lighter grey, making the page more
interesting to look at.
From this magazine I like how
they have used a feature image
to fill one side of the A3. I was
going to do this with the feature
image shown in the bottom right
hand corner, however I felt I
needed to add more text and
information within the article so
I made my image smaller. To
make it more interesting,
however, I added a faded copy
behind the original image to
make it look like a shadow.
