1. EVALUATION: In what ways does
your media productions use,
develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2.
3. When making my media product which is a music
magazine, I researched into existing music magazines
which are well known such as Q which covers a wider
range of genres and has an older audience, NME, which
concentrates on indie and punk music and Billboard. I did
this as I would like my magazine to be of the same
standard as these professional magazines. My magazine is
a similar genre so I developed some of their styles to
make them my own. I used a limited number of colours
and fonts like Q magazine. I justified the text at either
side of my magazine giving it a more professional look.
4. Photograph
I used one main image on my front cover as this is a
typical convention, it attracts the audience as it makes
them focus on one thing. I also feel having multiple
photos on the front of a magazine makes it look
cluttered. My front cover photo is a medium close up
as professional magazines usually use close ups or
medium close ups. The image is strong making kit
attract the audience. The magazine itself id neatly
arranged and has a appropriate mise-en-scene which
conveys something about the band.
5. Text
In Q the artists name is across the middle of the front cover so
I did the same on my magazine and. Q is organised into neat
columns which I also did and followed similar story lines. I
added blocks of colour but did not like the way it looked with
my picture so removed them, I added a banner along the
bottom of my magazine with a tagline as it did not fit across
the top. Q's masthead is in front of the picture and on one
block of colour but I followed common conventions of other
magazines and placed my masthead behind the models which
also allowed readers to see the picture more clearly. I also
added a quote in my magazine which I took from my magazine
article. I then also placed my barcode in a place it fitted best.
6.
7. I made the layout of my magazine similar to this
one as I liked they way it flowed. It has the main
image with two smaller images. I also put my
stories in a column just like the Q magazine. I
believe this gives it a more sophisticated style
and will intrigue people to read my magazine.
8.
9. I decided to create this as an opening for my
double page, I took features from lots of
different magazines to create something that
worked well. I made the image black and white
to give an edgy style to the article.
10.
11.
12. I used a similar layout to the Q magazine by
having half the page as a photograph of the
people that the article is about and I have put
the articles in columns which is a common
convention of any magazine. I have also put a
faded ‘A’ in the background as it is the letter at
the beginning of the bands name, just like Q
magazine put the ‘L’ in the background for lady
gaga. The Q magazine is in black and white but I
have gone against this and followed my purple
colour scheme which I got from the background
of my photographs.
13. I created a house style by using a colour scheme
of purple throughout my magazine. I also used
similar fonts that the audience would recognise.
