Horse slaughter and whether or not it should be legal in the US has been an ongoing debate. Horse
slaughter can be a touchy subject for people. People have very strong opinions about it whether you
are for it or against it. In this essay I will explain my views on the matter of Horse slaughter in the

Horses have been a part of man's life for a very long time. The relationship between man and horse
first began at the time of the horse's domestication between 4000 and 3500 B.C. They have been by
our side to help us complete agricultural tasks as well as recreational uses for thousands of years.

It is a wildly know fact that Nike own many factories across the world although, mainly in third
world countries such as Indonesia. Ironically the example of Nike acting unethically is located in a
factory named Pou Chen in Indonesia; in 2011 workers reported acts of both mental and physical
abuse in the factory (Stewart, N 21st April 2013). Examples of physical abuse included acts such as
workers being slapped and kicked. It is needless to say that physical nor mental abuse in the

The Slaughter of Horses
Slaughtering horses for human consumption in the United States started in the early 1970's.
Americans do not eat horsemeat; we consider horses to be favored animals, just like dogs and cats.
The idea of eating a horse, a cat, or a dog just goes against our very culture. It was foreign interests
that brought the horse slaughter industry to the United States and built equine slaughterhouses here.
By the 1990's, there were at least sixteen equine slaughterhouses operating all across the United
States. At that time, most Americans did not even realize that such an industry even existed in their
country. Over the years, the industry grew larger and people began to use slaughter as an opportune
way to get rid of their undesired horses. Rather than take responsibility for their horses by either
taking the time to place them in a horse sanctuary or by paying a licensed veterinarian put them
down humanely, owners would ship them to a slaughter house and get paid for doing so. In today's
United States there is a debate ensuing on whether to lift the ban on equine slaughter which was
enacted in 2007. There are practical as well as commercial arguments that can be made in favor of
horse slaughter, and there are ethical and environmental reasons to oppose it. In this paper I plan on
addressing both sides of the debate as well as explaining each sides main points. In 2007, the last

Wildhorse Ranch Rescues Mission Statement Analysis
Wildhorse Ranch Rescues mission statement is to save animals from abuse, neglect, slaughter and
premature death and provide a safe place for them to live for the remainder of their lives. The type
of programs that they offer there is Equine Rescue. They take in all type of equines such as wild
mustangs, domestic equines, retired US Forest Service Equines, US Calvary horses, and any equine
that needs help. Another program that they offer is HavasuPup. This program began in 2007. They
rescue strays and unwanted puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats from the Havasupai Grand Canyon.

very expensive in Arizona costing them $13.50 per bale. Even a little donation can go a long way.
Another way to help fund them is to support KittyCity. Since this organization operates on
donations they need all the donations they can get. By donating it can help provide cats in need with

chose this agency because I love all types of animals. I also wanted to see what they were doing to
help these animals out and how I could help. When walking into Wildhorse Ranch Rescue I was
eager to learn all about the animals and help the owners in any way I could. We first toured the
