2. How did I attract the audience on the FRONT COVER?
As soon as I was creating a pop magazine I wanted it to be simple,
stylish and more for an older age group. As soon as you look at the
main image on the front cover I feel it can grab anyone's attention as it
is in black and white as well as her eyes being so striking and looking
directly into the camera. I Feel the main image makes the magazine
unique and gives it an edge.
However the cover line and masthead are soft and look handwritten
creating the stereo typical cute and cheesy pop magazine. I like how
this worked as both the main image and writing contrasted each other,
attracting the older pop audience.
The colours used for the magazine was an important feature as i didn’t
want the pop magazine to use to many girly, feminine colours you
would see on other pop magazines such as “Top of the pops”. By
keeping the girly feel I used a light pink but contrasting it against black
and white to give the magazine something different and unique that’s
not already out there.
I used a Flash on the left side of the page in the black circle advertising
the “Exclusive artists” inside the magazine. By using the work Exclusive
it appeals to the reader more as it gives the feel of that information will
only be seen in this magazine.
The cover line Sally attracts the reader automatically as the
handwriting is singled out and is different to other features on the
magazine, also said in my feedback, the audience likes the heart that
appeared on the front cover with the name “Sally”. I included the heart
because I thought it creates a happy and cute vibe.
3. How did I attract the audience on the CONTENTS PAGE?
On the contents page I have tried to maintain a house style of
colours to run through from the front cover. By doing this I feel
that it links all of the magazine together and engages the
reader. It also keeps the contrast of girly pink and a harsh black
to make the magazine look more sophisticated, different and
look like a different approach to a pop magazine.
I used a variety of images to engage the reader further. I used
different shot types and colour to make each article different in
their own way. I also used different poses as the far right
image is more of a serious pose, where as the other two
images are of happy smiley people who are inviting the reader
to read that certain article.
I created an editor's note to welcome the audience further, the
note gives the reader more knowledge about what the
magazine will give and offer. I finished off the editors note with
a signature to personalize it of.
I Sectioned off the features of the magazine to there own, by
doing this I made the contents page more clearer on where to
look to attract the reader. Because I wanted to keep my initial
ideas of keeping the magazine simple and sophisticated I didn’t
want to overload the contents page with different features,
however in my focus group research an improvement could
have been to not have as much white space, which I could
improve on.
I used page numbers to make it clear to the reader where to
locate the articles.
I included a subscription offer at the bottom of the contents
page to attract the audience into subscribing to more of the
magazine. I also have said about the website attracting the
audience to look further than the magazine as its much wider.
4. How did I attract the audience on the DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD?
I have used a bold, and eye catching
and dominant image for the double
page spread that will appeal to the
target audience, it also shows another
side of the magazine as this image is
happy and innocent looking where as
the front cover image is more serious
and edgy, giving the magazine a variety
of looks.
Using a heart to dot the “I” creates a
cute feel to the magazine that runs
through the magazine as a heart was
also used on the front cover.
I used a different colour for each of the
question and answers, I used pink and
black sticking to the house style. This
makes the article more clear and
accessible for the reader to read and
attracts them more. I found out in my
research some people don’t like to
much information in one go, this is then I used a pull quote from the article on I also slanted the pull quote to make

the audience likes the contrast of the
black white and pink. I again stuck with the house style throughout the
double page spread to carry on attracting the
audience, as these are colours they like, it also
carries familiarity of the magazine.
