Creating a Quality Presentation By Mr. Crider
“ All the great speakers were bad speakers at first. --Ralph Waldo Emerson
Know your purpose Know why you are creating the Presentation Having a purpose will help guide what you put onto each slide, what type of feel you are looking for, and what information you are trying to convey to your audience
Know your audience Who are you presenting to? What type of presentation would be most effective for the audience (humorous, serious, fancy, etc) How can you grab their attention? How can you make sure that they get the information that they need?
Grab attention with your opening This will set the tone for the presentation If you start out on a positive note the presentation will probably follow suit Good attention getters Humor Quote Challenge audience Startling, appropriate statement Refer to a current event Anecdote Ask a question
Content This is very important It is the reason for the presentation. Include key facts and key opinions Never fill slides with text, use bullets
Slide appearance Uniformity = Professionalism Images only when needed Sounds only when needed Transitions and animations only when needed
Extras Add spice only when it fits your purpose and your audience Most high school presentations would allow for some images, sounds, transitions and animations Remember your purpose and audience
Closing Always include a summary slide Always leave the audience with something to remember Quote Anecdote Interesting fact Final slide should be a black slide
Delivery Eye contact Humor when appropriate Be enthusiastic Move around Modulate voice
Don’t forget! Include works cited Include a summary slide Be enthusiastic! Have fun! Know your topic!
“ If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiam.” --Vince Lombardi
