The document discusses instructional media and methods in nursing education. It defines instructional technology as using educational media and methods to effectively teach students. Some benefits of instructional technology include stimulating conceptual thinking, interest, and self-learning. A cone of learning model shows participation leads to greater retention than passive learning. Key considerations for selecting media include learning objectives, resources, and learners. Principles for effective use of audiovisual aids in teaching include selecting aids suited to objectives and learners, preparing aids cost-effectively, effective presentation, controlling aids physically, guiding student response, continuous evaluation, and preservation.

2. INTRODUCTION
Instructional technology is a
process consisting of educational
media as well as methods for
organizing and effectively utilizing
these media in the extension teaching
situation. Instructional technology
involves the integration of men,
machines/materials and media.
3. USES OF INSTRUCTIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
It provides basis for conceptual
thinking
It has a high degree of interest for
learners
It offers basis for the development of
learning
It offers a reality of experience which
stimulates self-activities on the part
the learners
It provides experience not easily

8. 1. PRINCIPLE OF
SELECTION
The teaching aids prove effective only
when they suit the teaching objectives
& unique characteristics of the
learners.
The aids must be selected according
to the intellectual maturity of the
pupil’s nature.
The selected teaching aid should have
specific educational value, besides
being interesting & motivating &
should be the true representative of
the reality.
9. 2. PRINCIPLE OF
PREPARATION
This refers to the cost effectiveness in
preparing the audio-visual aid.
The teacher should try to prepare
teaching aids by using locally
available materials utilizing the
creativity of the students.
10. 3. PRINCIPLE OF
PRESENTATION
After preparation of AV aids,
Organize instructional programme in
such a manner that the AV aid
functions as an integral part of the
teaching activity.
The aid should be visible & audible
and also visual instructions should not
be confused with entertainment or
timepass.
Check the adequacy or functioning of
11. 4. PRINCIPLE OF PHYSICAL
CONTROL
The teacher must arrange all teaching
aids well in advance for teaching.
The seating arrangement for the
students should be such that all can
get the benefit of learning.
The aids should be effectively
displayed in a proper place.
12. 5. PRINCIPLE OF
RESPONSE
The teacher has to guide the students
response to the AV stimuli, so that
they can attain learning objectives in
better ways.
13. 6. PRINCIPLE OF
EVALUATION
It is an continuous evaluation of
both AV aids & the techniques to
obtain desirable objectives.
Were the color scheme & layout
effective?
Was the display seen by all?
Did it serve the purpose to teach the
particular subject/topic?
Was it time consuming?
Was it cost-effective?
14. 7. PRINCIPLE OF
PRESERVATION
All the AV aids used by the teacher
should be preserved & protected from
dampness, dust, insects, moths etc..
as these can be used in future.
Regular maintenance & necessary
servicing of the hardware for projected
aids is essential.
