Editor's Notes
Hi, my name is Rick Hinton and I had Portal Solutions Products and Solutions group. So I focus on building industry specific and business process focused applications that run on the sharepoint platform. Our next product release is a task management and project reporting solution that we think we really be a game changer in the sharepoint space. David Lavenda is VP Product Strategy at harmon.ie - the mobile collaboration company. David is also a regular contributor to Fast Company and CMSwire. He is does academic research on how information overload in organizations has changed over the last 30 years. David is an International Scholar for the Society for the History of Technology.--------------Today our focus is on the mobile solutions and approaches in the context of your sharepoint, Office 365, Yammer deployment. We’ll talk about the application of mobile strategies in the enterprise and dive deeper into specific use cases that we hope many of you will find familiar. David will take us through a live demo of Harmonie solution, and we’ll wrap up with Q&A towards the end of the session. Before we get started, a couple of housekeeping items:If you have any questions during the presentation please feel free to post them using the question box on the attendee panel that is displayed on the right hand side of your screen. We will collect the questions throughout the session and try to get to as many as we can at the end of the session. If you haven’t already, please answer the poll questions that appear on your screen. We will review the responses during our discussion Q&A at the end of the session.
We talk a good bit here at Portal about the Digital Workplace, and I’m sure you have also seen the term
We are asking people to do more but not arming them with the tools and resources to be successful.
Let’s start with how employees actually spend their time now. One clear takeaway here is that you would want folks to focus even more time on role-specific tasks and minimize all the emailing, searching, and collaborating necessary.
Type of ContentAudienceLet’s look how these tools relate on these accesses NOWInstant MessageEMAIL – Oh wait, there isn’t room for anything else… but this is how it’s used otday, I’ts relied on for everything
Taking a step back let’s see what can be in your organization soon
Let’s talk about specific areas where you can start to focus in determining where you may lie along the Digital Workplace spectrum. There are four areas we affectionately refer to as the Four Cs: Communication,Content,, Collaboration, and Context.
The Mobile Enterprise is not about mobile devices per se, it is about giving employees the freedom to work from anywhere, at anytime, using the most convenient device for the job. This might be a desktop, a laptop, a tablet or a smartphone. Today, we are at the beginning of this journey. By providing employees with mobile devices via BYOD programs, workers are starting to untether from their desks. But buying new equipment is only the first step. Because each device offers a different experience…Different operating systems, different apps, and different form factors.Giving rank and file workers a user experience that lets the complete their work tasks without massive training on each device is a huge challenge. But if we don’t overcome this challenge, the mobile enterprise will remain a dream. And realizing that dream is what we are here to talk about today.
While SharePoint is ubiquitous and is implemented in a large majority of businesses today, there are over 125 million licensed users. But only 11% report that they actually use SP on daily basis. Companies aren’t realizing the return on their SP investment because of poor adoption from business users.
harmon.ie makes it easy for ordinary workers to use SharePoint, by making it easy to use, by bringing it to the places you already work – like Outlook and your iOS or Android devices. Also, harmon.ie reduces the SharePoint/O365 experience to a single screen. No more cutting and pasting to upload and share documents – it’s retains the work context so users can focus on the task at hand, like working on projects or contracts rather than on how to manipulate the tools.
And it is more than just documents. Because working on projects and contracts with colleagues means reaching out them and collaborating around the documents. You typically use calendars, instant messaging such as Lync, email, telephone, and microblogging services like Yammer. And since these are disconnected from the document sharing experience, it is difficult for workers to maximize the use of these tools. Toggling between applications means complexity and a disjointed experience. And that means people won’t use the tools. And that means your investment does not provide the business value for which you invested in the tools in the first place <CLICK THE SLIDE TO SHOW THE ANIMATION>And that is precisely what harmon.ie does. It creates a single screen collaboration experience for all the tools you are already using; things like email, Lync, SkyDrive Pro, calendar, Office Web apps, telephone, and now Yammer. The work context is preserved so workers can focus on the task at hand. As we like to say, harmon.ie creates ‘one collaboration window – no pane’
And you get this single screen experience everywhere you work – in Outlook, on tablets, on smartphones, and even at Internet kiosks via Outlook Web Apps. Because this is precisely the promise of the mobile enterprise – being able to work anytime, anyplace. By making it simple, consistent, and all in one place – people use the tools you have invested in to do work. They get their work done with a huge increase in productivity…and you achieve security, governance, and all the benefits of for which you invested in the collaboration tools to begin with.
Let’s talk about specific areas where you can start to focus in determining where you may lie along the Digital Workplace spectrum. There are four areas we affectionately refer to as the Four Cs: Communication,Content,, Collaboration, and Context.
