America Is A Melting Pot
America is a melting pot made up of people from many different races and ethnic backgrounds, so why
are the American news broadcasters predominantly white men in their late forties? News represents the
American society so therefore American broadcasters should reflect society as a whole. In addition,
many people consider news anchors role models and it is important to see themselves represented and
trust their news source. The lack of diversity among newscasters impacts the audience's reception of the
news. People are more likely to trust news sources that they relate to and identify with. Many people do
not even notice the lack of diversity or understand the impact it has on society. There needs to be more
of an effort to reflect diversity among our newscasters to correct the history of discrimination, to
accurately reflect the audience and to provide role models and promote positive images.
The United States is called a "melting pot " because the the varied groups of people that live in the
country and interact every day, but the country also has an ugly history or discrimination against
women and minorities. The broadcasting industry has been guilty of this discrimination. There has been
blatant discrimination against women newscasters. "Women journalists initially had difficulty breaking
into the broadcast news field and did not begin to make real strides towards equality until the 1960s and
1970s" ( Irvin) . This is very discouraging to young women interested in this

Who We Are Ad Analysis Examples
The 2016 Clinton "Who We Are" ad, has brought in major publicity to the presidential campaign race.
This ad demonstrates the process and goals, Senator Clinton wants to take in order to bring everyone
strong and together. In the textbook, it mentions that there are five parts to the dramatistic pentad: act,
scene, agent, agency, and purpose. In the commercial the act, is the underlying action of what is going
on. The ad demonstrates this by showing Clinton shaking hands with the men and woman, and hugging
small children. She interacts with them to gain their trust, in hopes that they will value her
determination and willingness. As this action is in play, Clinton uses a voice over to state that we must,
"Give every man, women, and child the God given right to their potential" (The Living Room
Candidate). Her offset dialogue matches the action that has taken place, creating an audible and visual
story. Then there is the scene, the scene in the ad is associated with background setting that determines

The dominate term that's the most significant is the purpose, the purpose of this ad is to tell a story that
the American people deserve an economy that is beneficial to all, instead of those who are already on
top. Building a better economy that is more sufficient that can help everyday people lives is the main
priority. The act in this ad, demonstrates Clinton visiting local men, women, and children. As she
interacts with them, and listen to their stories. She can form better solutions in making the economy
better. This act is being done based on Clinton's main purpose, which is building a better economy.
However, in the ad, there is a least dominate pentad, which is the agency. The agency lacks in
underlying step by step on how to accomplish each goal. Instead, they announce hidden cues that they
say will make a change, but with no step by process on

Essay about The History of the Antitrust Laws
In the 1800's there were several businesses known as trusts. These "trusts" owned the entire industry.
Railroads, sugar, oil, and steel were some of the major products that were controlled by these trusts.
U.S. Steel and Standard Oil were two big companies that were famous for controlling their product and
the industry it was a part of. The oil industry was an easy industry to be monopolized because the
deposits were rare. The Standard Oil Company was incorporated by John D. Rockefeller in Ohio in
1870. At the time, the refining business was highly competitive, and Standard Oil had more than 250
competitors. Rockefeller and his associates took advantage of both the scarcity of oil and the returns
produced from it to lay down a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
U.S. Steel stayed at a stand still in improvement as minor companies consumed more and more of its
market share.
The trusts set the price because they had no competitors. The prices of the products went sky high. This
was a good thing for the business but a terrible thing for the American public. The products did not
have to be the best because only one company was producing them; so the consumer either paid the
puffed up price or went without. America pushed the government to make a change. President Theodore
Roosevelt enforced the Antitrust Laws which stopped many businesses from controlling the entire
market. It allowed for more competition in the market. The U.S. constitution passed several laws to
encourage competition by banning unjust ways of competition.
The antitrust laws ban unlawful mergers and business practices in broad terms, leaving courts to choose
which ones are illegal based on the details of each case. Courts have applied the antitrust laws to
varying markets, from a time of picking blackberries to texting on them. Yet for over one hundred
years, the antitrust laws have had the same fundamental purpose: to keep the practice of competition for
the benefit of customers, making sure there are strong incentives for businesses to function efficiently,
keep prices down, and keep quality up.
Trusts and monopolies are a lot of riches in the hands of a few. Trusts and monopolies are considered

Media Ownership Media is not just television and radio. The French media ownership is distributed
over four different forms of media. The media is consisted radio, internet, television, and newspaper.
The French people are more old fashion. They rely mostly on radio and newspaper. They spend very
little time in front of a television set or in front of a computer screen. The rest of the world spends so
much more time in front of computer screens and televisions sets compared to the French citizens. The

American Needle vs. The National Football League Properties
The teams of the NFL established the NFLP or National Football League Properties to "develop,
license, and market" the teams' intellectual property in 1963. The organization allowed a certain amount
of nonexclusive licenses to a variety of licensees. American Needle was one of the licensees. They
made a variety of headwear that displayed the various NFL team logos. The licensing agreement lasted
until 2000. The NFL teams sanctioned the NFLP to give Reebok an exclusive license for headwear.
With this decision, the NFLP did not renew American Needle's license or the licenses of any other
headwear vendors.
American Needle Inc. filed a suit in an Illinois district court against the NFL, NFLP, NFL teams, and
Reebok, claiming that this exclusive license agreement violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 §
U.S.C. 1, which outlaws any "contract, combination . . . or conspiracy, in restraint of trade." American
Needle argued that because individual teams separately own their team logos and trademarks, their
collective agreement to authorize NFLP to award the exclusive headwear license to Reebok, was a
conspiracy to restrict other vendors' ability to obtain licenses for the teams' intellectual property.
The respondents, NFL, moved for a motion of summary judgment on the Section 1 claim, arguing it
was immune from antitrust liability as a single entity. In response, American Needle sought a
continuance and asked the U.S. District Court to allow discovery, a motion opposed by the

Trump V. Hilary Case Study
Trump v. Hilary: Finding Clarity in the Chaos As a barely twenty–year–old junior at a sheltered private
college, I have to confess that it's been very hard to conceptualize and realize the severity of the 2016
election. What started off as a race of what seemed like a million different candidates, the polls quickly
zoned in on two candidates we could've never predicted to be the voting citizens' final choice. It's both
overwhelming, and simple, deceitful, and truthful – this election seems to be full of contradictions and
half truths, and the opaque nature of a once seemingly transparent media complicates matters further in
an election that seems convoluted even on paper. Along with the legislative branch, the media itself has
turned into a monster we never thought we'd have to wrangle. We are surrounded by propaganda,
caricatures, and cartoons everywhere we turn, especially in print media like ... Show more content on

By observing two separate covers of The New Yorker depicting Hilary Rodham Clinton and Donald
John Trump in two very different lights, we can explore the volatility of the election as revealed
through the overly–satirical (yet still somber) manipulation of this peculiar electoral race. As with most
electoral races, the media takes on the role of portraying images of candidates to the public. The
motives behind these conscious, deliberate decisions vary greatly, but the results are always interesting
to dissect. Starting with the June 20, 2016 issue of The New Yorker, we see a depiction of Secretary
Clinton mid–fight, sitting in the corner of a boxing ring (appropriate following the death of Muhammad
Ali), sporting her confident, signature grin despite all the

The Causes And Effects Of Television Shows In America
Over the years, the universal invention that has negatively affected our society is none other than the
television. Although it wasn't always so controversial, this contraption has become something that has
in ways damaged the United States. Television came out in the 1940's and it started as a way to
entertain people and bring people a bit of joy to their stressful lives. It wasn't such a terrible thing when
people could just indulge in one episode or two. Now, rather than using it as something to be
entertained with every now and then, people have become addicted. Television can cause deep issues in
America by giving out false information, increasing laziness, and decreasing communication in people's
households. Shows on television have many times been known to feed the people of the United States
with incorrect information on topics that are important to and concern the nation. Whether it is a show
on news, comedy, or romance, the directors of these shows seem to pay little to no attention to the facts
they release on their programs. In 2005, the medical drama called Grey's Anatomy was first aired and
since then the show has surpassed eight–million views as of 2015. Except, the show has been known by
researchers to give out false information about seizure care:
"In nearly 46 percent of seizure cases, characters on these shows delivered inappropriate treatments
such as holding the person down, trying to stop involuntary movements or putting something in the

The cost of education is most important to me, because if the cost of education continues to increase it
will have a negative affect on society. More people will be unemployed due to the increase in demand
for jobs that don't require a degree and a shortage of employees in jobs that require a degree such as
professors, physicians, engineers, etc. Healthcare is too costly for most people to afford and cause
people to disregard medical treatment which leads to the spread of diseases and illnesses. In correlation
with the cost of education to healthcare, there will be an increase in the amount of people who will need
medical attention, but can't receive it, and a shortage of physicians. My dream is the become physician
to help people and do that I need to be able to afford an education. If education is unfordable for me
then not only my dream, but the dream of other people who strive for the same accomplishments, will
be unattainable. To achieve this goal we need to have a stable economy, which will allow for students to
strive for an education and increase the amount of educators and healthcare professionals that we need
desperately. Hilary Clinton is a candidate, that I believe, should become president so that we can

Effects on America (1945–1980) From the creation of the United States, it had to overcome many
things and take action on multiple issues. Starting with the French and Indian war that removed France

important documents in the United States, the Declaration of Independence and our first president,

This was a main reason for many Americans not being in favor of his views, both religious as well as
political. Kennedy was the first Roman–Catholic to become president, most other presidents were
Protestant. This helped to lead to his assassination while he was riding in a car during a parade in
Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Kennedy played a role in reinventing American politics for the
better. President Kennedy took office during one of the most troubling and darkest times in American
history. The Cold War between democratic and communist countries was becoming more aggressive,
and the United States and the Soviet Union possessed enough nuclear weapons to destroy not just cities
or countries, but the world multiple times. In American cities, racial tension was on the rise. An
increasing number of black Americans had begun to fight for equal treatment, and white segregationists

Hillary Clinton Speech Analysis
At the fourth U.N. conference, Hillary Clinton gave a powerful speech about women's rights. Hillary
Clinton emphasizes that although women have been given more freedom and rights as the years went
by, it still isn't enough. In her speech, Clinton goes on to say that "if women are free from violence,
their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in
society, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, their communities and nations do as
well". Hillary Clinton used appeals to emotions, logic, and ethics to convey to the audience that
women's rights should be normalized and embraced around the world.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has many titles under her belt such as "politician", "first lady", "senator" etc.
but no title gives her a bigger sense of pride than being a "woman". She believes to be a woman is to be
strength, power, and grace which she exudes with every step she takes. Growing up, Clinton always
dreamed of being a significant figure in the progression of women's rights. Some of the prominent steps
that Clinton took to pave the way for women and children include: becoming an advocate for kids and
families at the Children's Defense Fund, fighting for the Family and Medical Leave Act, working to
increase funding for childcare, and helping to start the National Campaign to End Teen and Unplanned
Pregnancy.

She expressed her understanding of the problem when she says, "over the last 25 years i have worked

To paraphrase what Warner described as texts are that of which a public requires texts, publics begin to
take form from such texts. A public forms in peculiar ways, that texts have a designated place in
publics. A text is very flexible, professor Gill gave the example of a text as "a room, how is the room
designed, what is the role of the room, and so on". Warner stresses the importance of texts and it's
important that the text can be decoded, it can reveal a story through many different avenues such as
anything that can be read, literally and figuratively, images are also included. Warner goes on to
describe how there is a text and user relationship, texts are intimately attached to our bodies. Once texts
accumulate, the public will form around the text. As Warner points out there are seven ways in which to

John Davison Rockefeller was the founder of Standard Oil Company in 1870 and ran it until he retired

1950s Popular Culture
When World War II ended most countries began to progress and prosper. Of these many countries, the
United States was ready to take on new challenges that lied ahead and eventually become one of the
most powerful countries on Earth. Popular Culture and Mass Media had a tremendous impact on
people's lives during the 1950's which shaped the way that the United States is today. Popular culture
and mass media affected the television, the average American family, teenagers, and people involved in
the red scare. During the 1950's the television was making its way into almost everyone's life. The

The television had a remarkable role in the 1952 election, which was Dwight D. Eisenhower against
Adlai E. Stevenson (Parker 1). For example Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower's vice president,
was accused of mishandling funds, but he was able to cover up his mistakes by giving a televised
speech that shifted the focus away from his mistake to his dog Checkers (Parker 1). This allowed for
Richard Nixon to easily reach out to the majority of voters and convince them that they should still vote
for Eisenhower. Another example of the usage of television in the 1952 election was the tactic of the
candidates campaigning with their wives (Parker 1). Joel Parker writes, "both Eisenhower and Nixon
campaigned very visibly with their wives ... while Stevenson was vulnerable on this front due to his
status as a divorcé" (Parker 1). Eisenhower and Nixon both used this advantage to campaign in a more
family friendly style which could be visible almost every time they appeared on television (Parker 1).

and according of women's rights. In India, regionalism, class, and communalism had become the fuel of
politics. In such a diverse yet democratic country all aspects of economic development were
enormously contentious. This can be seen from a glance at two central issues in development, birth
control and women's rights. Women's right was also caught up in the maelstrom of Indian politics.
There has a proliferation of women's groups encourage by the UN Decade of Women in 1970s, which
suggested that the status of women had actually declined since independence. One success of the
activists was a campaign against "dowry murders", which is killing young wives in domestic fires
started by their in–laws for financial gain. 1 In Islam, most Islamic states divided into two groups, one

Nonverbal Communication In Presidential Elections
Due to both candidates being fresh faces for presidential candidate standards, they have to be careful
when it comes to topics that have not been addressed before in other presidential elections. The world is
currently under terrorism attacks and racial and social indifferences whose topics may be too new and
sudden to discuss without accidental slip ups with misinformation. Donald John Trump. For Trump's
blunt personality, he must be careful to not cross a line that he won't be able to come back from when
discussing his opinions and beliefs. Though it seems he has been able to get away with a lot of racial
comments regarding others he considers to not be American, the minute he speaks about Caucasian and
African American status and one being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of Trump's most memorable moments occurred during the Republican debate (Stewart, 2015).
Trump came off as if he was above everyone else and that the whole debate was a waste of his time.
Constant facial expressions and hand gestures reflecting annoyance seemed to emphasize this. As the
other candidates spoke, Trump had a silent reaction to every comment, at times reaching out and taping
the other candidates on their arms. Though throughout, Trump constantly did long and slow nods, this
typically means that the person is listening and wants you to continue speaking but also combining it
with long and slow blinks means that Trump was trying to block the person speaking at the moment
out. He was disinterested and felt too superior to be listening to all of it (Arechaederra, 2014). Here we
can see typical styles of nonverbal communication that Trump is giving off while in debates and
interviews. He clearly has the personality that hints that he has a believed status of hierarchy and that
everyone's opinion is not even worth listening to. Because this is now seen as normal for Trump to act
in this disrespecting manner, any change to his behavior would be seen as obscure and

Escaping Extinction
ESCAPING EXTINCTION
Much has been written, and even more said, about what constitutes the Canadian character, what
identifies the quintessential Canadian. Two features clearly emerge as dominant elements in the make–
up of both English and French–speaking members of our family: Canadians are constantly brooding
over who we are, what gives us our Canadian character, and what makes us different from other
nations. Most other nations never think about such things, or take the answers for granted. Secondly,
there is a keen awareness of, interest in, and concern with all things American, that is, with the United
States of America. This is a main factor that contributes Canada to becoming the 51st State.

There are at least six major factors explaining why Canada is so vulnerable to the television world of
the United States. First, the physical proximity of so many Canadians to the United States border places
a vast majority of the population within the reception area of American signals with the aid of only a
cheap rooftop antenna. New technologies, particularly cable, and, more recently, satellites, have placed
almost the whole of the country within reach of American programming. Secondly, 80 percent of
Canadians speak English and therefore have no problem in savouring the goodies produced south of the
border.
Thirdly, the American entertainment industry is the most vital and vivacious in the world. Growing
largely out of the enormously successful and widely applauded American film industry, television
programs and stars have found easy acceptance everywhere. American television has from the
beginning, and until the advent of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) in the late
1960’s, been conceived as a commercial medium whose major role is to deliver audiences
to advertisers. The content has therefore been designed to appeal to the largest possible audiences. The
format and the type of drama originated by the American entertainment industry have in the most recent
era created new

A Very Rough Draft : The Presidential Debate
Title (A Very Rough Draft) In the upcoming presidential debate our two main candidates fight for a spot
to be president, but in order to take down the opponent it is necessary to find and reveal any
contributions that could ruin the race for one candidate. This was what the political ad called
"Trustworthy" by AmericaRisingPAC is trying to convey. This ad focuses on every major lie or
contradiction that Hillary Clinton has mentioned or done throughout the course of her campaign.
Trustworthy's main point is to prove to their audience that Hillary is not trustworthy, and because of
that her popularity in the election is dropping. Though the ad seem somewhat dramatic and bias, it does
have very solid evidence take can really appeal to the emotions and sense of judgement. Every piece
used is either a quote from Hillary Clinton herself, or a new clip of the current state that the world is in.
AmericaRisingPAC uses her own words against her in a form that makes you doubt her credibility.
Even the structure of the ad is done in a way that supports the message and the evidence at the same
time. This ad makes sure that you are able to follow the point, every time they use more evidence it is
first introduced and then deleted metaphorically like her personal emails. Credible quotes, contradicting
news evidence, and compelling layout all work together to provide the basis for the anti–Hillary ad
'Trustworthy'. This leaves little room for the public to label the political ad as

Women's Rights And Human Rights
Women make many contributions in every aspect of life, for example, raising children to be productive
citizens in society, bringing together neighborhoods and communities to live in peace and tranquility,
creating a harmonious atmosphere at work, becoming mentors, business owner and the list can go on.
Women from all over the world have many things in common although their cultures are very different.
One thing that stands out the most that not all women have in common is the chance to enjoy basic
legal and human rights. One such woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton, spoke about this on September 5,
1995, in Beijing, China, during the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women. Hillary Clinton
holds credibility as First Lady of the United States at the time and an influential activist for women's
rights with vast amounts of experience dealing with women's issues around the world. She manifests an
astounding amount of emotion to elicit empathy from the audience. Ms. Clinton's argument is simple
and rational, successfully advocating the empowerment of women worldwide in regards to violence
against women, decision making, poverty and most importantly the equality of women's rights.
Bringing to life the title of her speech "Women's Rights are Human Rights."
Ms. Clinton demonstrates goodwill, courage, and wisdom towards the audience. She addresses the
aspiration for equality and betterment of women, and the hardships and oppressions women experience.
Although, Ms. Clinton does not personally experience these horrific oppressions that take place in other
countries outside her home country of the United States of America, she is a woman who is affected by
inequality and dislikes the hardships other women endure. Throughout her career, Ms. Clinton has
advocated equal opportunity for women and has led by example with her accomplishments. Ms. Clinton
recounted various experiences she had with women she met in Indonesia, Denmark, South Africa,
India, Bangladesh, Belarus, Ukraine and in her own country. Ms. Clinton is a credible person to cover
the topic considering she is a well–known lawyer and married to the President of the United States. Ms.
Clinton displayed her competence with her knowledge and expertise. Moreover,

Government Interventions : An Economic Intervention
Government interventions is an economic intervention by the government or international institution in
a market economy to help impact the economy past basic regulation of fraud and enforcement of
contracts. Government regulations are split into two categories, social regulation and economic
regulation. Economic regulations obtain to mainly control prices. This was intended to protect
consumers and certain companies from more powerful companies. Social regulations obtain to promote
objectives that are not economic, such as safe workplaces and a cleaner environment. My Government
Interventions are the First Income tax, The Interstate Commerce Act, and The Sherman Antitrust Act. I
will evaluate these interventions by describing what it was, what the purpose of the act was, the primary
and secondary costs and benefits of the intervention, and if the intervention was economically efficient.
A law enacted by the government to help control prices is called a price control. Price controls have two
parts, price ceilings and price floors. This law assists producers in setting the price ceiling and price
floor in the market place. Price floors retain the price from falling below a certain level. A price floor in
the market for goods and services is the lowest legal price that can be paid. Price ceilings keep the price
from exceeding a certain level. This helps support the attempt to keep prices lower for consumers who
demand a product. Although the concept of price ceilings and

On September 5, 1995, Hillary Clinton delivered an influential speech at The Fourth World Conference

normally female. It's most common in India, China, and other regions in Southeast Asia" (GirlsKind
Foundation). Crimes, such as bride trafficking, infanticide, abandonment, and dowry related murder;
often take place within private households, going unnoticed and not even acknowledged. "Tragically,

Hillary relates to them by listing responsibilities that women uphold. "I have met women in South
Africa who helped lead the struggle to end apartheid and are now helping to build a new democracy. I
have met women in India and Bangladesh who are taking out small loans to buy milk cows, or
rickshaws, or thread to create a livelihood for them themselves and their families" (Clinton 2). Using
repetition, she starts the accounts with "I have met women in......." to show credibility, she has met
women in different positions. By doing so Clinton, allows the audience immediately to know what
women are capable of doing, despite unfair treatment.
Pathos is important in this speech when you are trying to change others views on women's rights.
Hillary uses emotional appeals to the audience when she describes them as wives, mothers, sisters, and
daughters; referring them to women in our own lives; evoking the listener to imagine if their loved one
were in the same position. Clinton talks about the appalling desecrations such as gendercide. Clinton
states the demands of women that remain silent. By using repetitive language, she starts all the
statements with "It is a violation of human rights when....".All eight statements are relevant examples of
different scenarios that happen to women around the world. "It is a violation of human rights

Hillary Clinton On Women's Rights
The speech I choose is about women's rights is human's rights. The reason why I chose this speech is
because I think in most of countries around the world don't give women their rights they need. Some
women don't have right to speak when her husband is talking, women don't have right to talk to another
man because her family and relatives be afraid of society, women cannot work because men is one who
should work and earn money and a man can never live his life depending on his wife's salary. There are
so many things that women are getting or are still restricted from doing. Even girls are too, they cannot
wear short clothes in front of their father, uncle, brother, grandfather and even their friends because
society thinks that girl might get raped. Because of these situation, I chose this speech so people in the
society might think again when they talk about women's and girls. ... Show more content on

China 's Governance And Censorship
1.0 Executive Summary
Media systems can differ dramatically based on what the specific political system is like. Countries
with a more liberal democracy, like the United States, have a more lenient political system, therefore
their media system is more tolerant of free speech and letting the public have further guidance on
regulations of governance and censorship. On the other hand, countries with a command and control
style government, like China's Communist Party, the public has no control or insight over regulations. A
unique characteristic of China's governance and censorship is that it is completely in the hands of the
state, along with any media systems that might be available. Without loosening their regulation on
media policies, Chinese citizens will never know the luxuries of personal growth and development with
other nations. While the United States could learn to adopt some of China's regulations as well, there is
no way of knowing the correct or accurate way of governing media policy. Bits and pieces of every
nations policy could be considered right or wrong, depending on which belief system you are coming
from.

Other themes that are pro–compensation include redefining amateurism and worker's compensation and
liability issues. The fourth stream of literature focuses on various reasons that intercollegiate athletes
should not be paid to play, mostly viewpoints that consider the use of the Sherman Act within
intercollegiate athletics to be judicial overreach.
The Sherman Antitrust Act
Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act, in part, states that "every contract, combination... or conspiracy,
in the restraint of trade or commerce... is declared to be illegal." (Sherman Act, 2006). This law
provides "a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at preserving free and unfettered
competition as the rule of trade (Northern Pacific Railway Company vs. United States, 1958; Reiter vs.
Sonotone Corporation, 1979). It relies on a fundamental belief in supply and demand (Baum Research
& Development Company vs. Hillerich & Bradsby, 1998). There are two main ways by which a
plaintiff could challenge the NCAA's no–pay rules under Section 1 of the Sherman Act. First, the
plaintiff could argue that the no–pay regulations signify a type of wage fixing that damages not only the
market for the student–athletes' skills but also the value of college sports as a whole. Second, the
plaintiff could argue that the NCAA rules create an unlawful group prohibition of those

American composer and pianist Billy Joel wrote the song "We Didn't Start the Fire" regarding the

Important Facts On July 21, 2009, former University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) basketball
star, Edward O'Bannon, Jr filed suit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA),
Electronic Arts (EA) and Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) over the use of former and current

current and former Division 1 NCAA players from receiving any compensation. Mr. O'Bannon believed
this is a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act (1890). The NCAA disagrees with the charges as
presented and stated that the rules regarding compensation to student athletes are necessary to protect
collegiate sports and the educational mission of the colleges involved. The NCAA was established in
1950 and currently has over 1,100 colleges. The NCAA has a broad range of rules, but for the purposes
of the case, the rules in question deals with eligibility requirements, the number and size of scholarships
each school can offer, and whether the student athletes can be compensated and for what they can be

currently states that student athletes cannot receive compensation outside of the set rules. The student

Sherman Antitrust Act : A Critical And Necessary Statute
SHERMAN ANTITRUST ACT
I claim that the Sherman Antitrust Act is a critical and necessary statute that gradually caused
significant changes in business practices in order to ensure a competitive free market system essential
for long term growth of the economy, although it faced criticisms for sacrificing economic efficiency.
This fundamental statute continues to notably shape the economic landscape even today, albeit being
more than 100 years old.
The act contains three sections. The first section renders every contract, trust and conspiracy in restraint
of interstate and foreign trade illegal (Dana 1903). The second section effectively penalizes everyone
engaged in monopolizing any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with a foreign
nation. The third section extends the first section to include U.S. territories and the District of
Columbia. Prior to the enactment of this act several states within the United States had passed similar
laws for intrastate businesses. However, the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 was the first measure passed
by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts and regulate interstate commerce (Initiative).
The opponents of the act claim that it made the economy less efficient. Bradley (1990) asserts that the
Sherman Act discouraged scale economies that promoted lower costs and prices, penalized successful
market entrepreneurship, and rewarded the political entrepreneurship of less–efficient business rivals.
Others such as Comanor (1995)

America Is A Melting Pot

  • 1. America Is A Melting Pot America is a melting pot made up of people from many different races and ethnic backgrounds, so why are the American news broadcasters predominantly white men in their late forties? News represents the American society so therefore American broadcasters should reflect society as a whole. In addition, many people consider news anchors role models and it is important to see themselves represented and trust their news source. The lack of diversity among newscasters impacts the audience's reception of the news. People are more likely to trust news sources that they relate to and identify with. Many people do not even notice the lack of diversity or understand the impact it has on society. There needs to be more of an effort to reflect diversity among our newscasters to correct the history of discrimination, to accurately reflect the audience and to provide role models and promote positive images. The United States is called a "melting pot " because the the varied groups of people that live in the country and interact every day, but the country also has an ugly history or discrimination against women and minorities. The broadcasting industry has been guilty of this discrimination. There has been blatant discrimination against women newscasters. "Women journalists initially had difficulty breaking into the broadcast news field and did not begin to make real strides towards equality until the 1960s and 1970s" ( Irvin) . • 5. Who We Are Ad Analysis Examples The 2016 Clinton "Who We Are" ad, has brought in major publicity to the presidential campaign race. This ad demonstrates the process and goals, Senator Clinton wants to take in order to bring everyone strong and together. In the textbook, it mentions that there are five parts to the dramatistic pentad: act, scene, agent, agency, and purpose. In the commercial the act, is the underlying action of what is going on. The ad demonstrates this by showing Clinton shaking hands with the men and woman, and hugging small children. She interacts with them to gain their trust, in hopes that they will value her determination and willingness. As this action is in play, Clinton uses a voice over to state that we must, "Give every man, women, and child the God given right to their potential" (The Living Room Candidate). • 7. Essay about The History of the Antitrust Laws In the 1800's there were several businesses known as trusts. These "trusts" owned the entire industry. Railroads, sugar, oil, and steel were some of the major products that were controlled by these trusts. U.S. Steel and Standard Oil were two big companies that were famous for controlling their product and the industry it was a part of. The oil industry was an easy industry to be monopolized because the deposits were rare. The Standard Oil Company was incorporated by John D. Rockefeller in Ohio in 1870. At the time, the refining business was highly competitive, and Standard Oil had more than 250 competitors. Rockefeller and his associates took advantage of both the scarcity of oil and the returns produced from it to lay down a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... U.S. Steel stayed at a stand still in improvement as minor companies consumed more and more of its market share. The trusts set the price because they had no competitors. The prices of the products went sky high. This was a good thing for the business but a terrible thing for the American public. The products did not have to be the best because only one company was producing them; so the consumer either paid the puffed up price or went without. America pushed the government to make a change. President Theodore Roosevelt enforced the Antitrust Laws which stopped many businesses from controlling the entire market. It allowed for more competition in the market. The U.S. constitution passed several laws to encourage competition by banning unjust ways of competition. The antitrust laws ban unlawful mergers and business practices in broad terms, leaving courts to choose which ones are illegal based on the details of each case. Courts have applied the antitrust laws to varying markets, from a time of picking blackberries to texting on them. Yet for over one hundred years, the antitrust laws have had the same fundamental purpose: to keep the practice of competition for the benefit of customers, making sure there are strong incentives for businesses to function efficiently, keep prices down, and keep quality up. • 11. American Needle vs. The National Football League Properties The teams of the NFL established the NFLP or National Football League Properties to "develop, license, and market" the teams' intellectual property in 1963. The organization allowed a certain amount of nonexclusive licenses to a variety of licensees. American Needle was one of the licensees. They made a variety of headwear that displayed the various NFL team logos. The licensing agreement lasted until 2000. The NFL teams sanctioned the NFLP to give Reebok an exclusive license for headwear. With this decision, the NFLP did not renew American Needle's license or the licenses of any other headwear vendors. American Needle Inc. filed a suit in an Illinois district court against the NFL, NFLP, NFL teams, and Reebok, claiming that this exclusive license agreement violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 § U.S.C. 1, which outlaws any "contract, combination . . . or conspiracy, in restraint of trade." American Needle argued that because individual teams separately own their team logos and trademarks, their collective agreement to authorize NFLP to award the exclusive headwear license to Reebok, was a conspiracy to restrict other vendors' ability to obtain licenses for the teams' intellectual property. The respondents, NFL, moved for a motion of summary judgment on the Section 1 claim, arguing it was immune from antitrust liability as a single entity. In response, American Needle sought a continuance and asked the U.S. District Court to allow discovery, a motion opposed by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Trump V. Hilary Case Study Trump v. Hilary: Finding Clarity in the Chaos As a barely twenty–year–old junior at a sheltered private college, I have to confess that it's been very hard to conceptualize and realize the severity of the 2016 election. What started off as a race of what seemed like a million different candidates, the polls quickly zoned in on two candidates we could've never predicted to be the voting citizens' final choice. It's both overwhelming, and simple, deceitful, and truthful – this election seems to be full of contradictions and half truths, and the opaque nature of a once seemingly transparent media complicates matters further in an election that seems convoluted even on paper. Along with the legislative branch, the media itself has turned into a monster we never thought we'd have to wrangle. By observing two separate covers of The New Yorker depicting Hilary Rodham Clinton and Donald John Trump in two very different lights, we can explore the volatility of the election as revealed through the overly–satirical (yet still somber) manipulation of this peculiar electoral race. As with most electoral races, the media takes on the role of portraying images of candidates to the public. The motives behind these conscious, deliberate decisions vary greatly, but the results are always interesting to dissect. Starting with the June 20, 2016 issue of The New Yorker, we see a depiction of Secretary Clinton mid–fight, sitting in the corner of a boxing ring (appropriate following the death of Muhammad Ali), sporting her confident, signature grin despite all the ... • 15. The Causes And Effects Of Television Shows In America Over the years, the universal invention that has negatively affected our society is none other than the television. Although it wasn't always so controversial, this contraption has become something that has in ways damaged the United States. Television came out in the 1940's and it started as a way to entertain people and bring people a bit of joy to their stressful lives. It wasn't such a terrible thing when people could just indulge in one episode or two. Now, rather than using it as something to be entertained with every now and then, people have become addicted. Television can cause deep issues in America by giving out false information, increasing laziness, and decreasing communication in people's households. Shows on television have many times been known to feed the people of the United States with incorrect information on topics that are important to and concern the nation. Whether it is a show on news, comedy, or romance, the directors of these shows seem to pay little to no attention to the facts they release on their programs. In 2005, the medical drama called Grey's Anatomy was first aired and since then the show has surpassed eight–million views as of 2015. Except, the show has been known by researchers to give out false information about seizure care: "In nearly 46 percent of seizure cases, characters on these shows delivered inappropriate treatments such as holding the person down, trying to stop involuntary movements or putting something in the person's ... In correlation with the cost of education to healthcare, there will be an increase in the amount of people who will need medical attention, but can't receive it, and a shortage of physicians. My dream is the become physician to help people and do that I need to be able to afford an education. Hillary Clinton emphasizes that although women have been given more freedom and rights as the years went by, it still isn't enough. In her speech, Clinton goes on to say that "if women are free from violence, their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in society, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, their communities and nations do as well". Hillary Clinton used appeals to emotions, logic, and ethics to convey to the audience that women's rights should be normalized and embraced around the world. Growing up, Clinton always dreamed of being a significant figure in the progression of women's rights. During the debate Secretary Clinton talked about what plans she had and how she would change our economy. She explained herself well with minor rambling and trying her best to stay on topic. I say "trying" only because, Mr. Trump was a real hassle during the debate, from going over the given two minute window to state his argument, unto him cutting off and speaking over Secretary Hinton and the mediator, Mr. Lester Holt. For example, the first question was " ..How are you a better choice than your opponent to create kind jobs that will put more money in the pockets of American works?" According to the legal, political and social rights to clarify it is significant to realize that the most commonly thought among all rights are the control of property and suffrage, equality of opportunity in education and employment, and sexual freedom. The women's rights movement, also known as feminism and women's liberation, arose in the whole world in the late 19th century by Reynolds, with the aim of expanding recognition and according of women's rights. In India, regionalism, class, and communalism had become the fuel of politics. In such a diverse yet democratic country all aspects of economic development were enormously contentious. New technologies, particularly cable, and, more recently, satellites, have placed almost the whole of the country within reach of American programming. Government Interventions : An Economic Intervention Government interventions is an economic intervention by the government or international institution in a market economy to help impact the economy past basic regulation of fraud and enforcement of contracts. Government regulations are split into two categories, social regulation and economic regulation. Economic regulations obtain to mainly control prices. This was intended to protect consumers and certain companies from more powerful companies. Social regulations obtain to promote objectives that are not economic, such as safe workplaces and a cleaner environment. My Government Interventions are the First Income tax, The Interstate Commerce Act, and The Sherman Antitrust Act. I will evaluate these interventions by describing what it was, what the purpose of the act was, the primary and secondary costs and benefits of the intervention, and if the intervention was economically efficient. A law enacted by the government to help control prices is called a price control. Price controls have two parts, price ceilings and price floors. This law assists producers in setting the price ceiling and price floor in the market place. Price floors retain the price from falling below a certain level. Countries with a more liberal democracy, like the United States, have a more lenient political system, therefore their media system is more tolerant of free speech and letting the public have further guidance on regulations of governance and censorship. On the other hand, countries with a command and control style government, like China's Communist Party, the public has no control or insight over regulations. A unique characteristic of China's governance and censorship is that it is completely in the hands of the state, along with any media systems that might be available. Without loosening their regulation on media policies, Chinese citizens will never know the luxuries of personal growth and development with other nations. While the United States could learn to adopt some of China's regulations as well, there is no way of knowing the correct or accurate way of governing media policy. Bits and pieces of every nations policy could be considered right or wrong, depending on which belief system you are coming from. 2.0 Introduction The United States government places high importance on the openness of the Internet and media in general. It is a way of modernization and healthy competition for those who seek to enhance their personal globalization. Unlike the United States, China does not place significance on globalization for fear of revolt against their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Singleton EDU 7253 Legal Environment of Higher Education May 28, 2015 Abstract Because of recent court cases such as O'Bannon v. This literature review will focus on the major themes discussed in peer reviewed journals and law reviews as well as the main judicial opinions on this issue to this point. Other themes that are pro–compensation include redefining amateurism and worker's compensation and liability issues. The fourth stream of literature focuses on various reasons that intercollegiate athletes should not be paid to play, mostly viewpoints that consider the use of the Sherman Act within intercollegiate athletics to be judicial overreach. The Sherman Antitrust Act Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act, in part, states that "every contract, combination... or conspiracy, in the restraint of trade or commerce... is declared to be illegal." (Sherman Act, 2006). This law provides "a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at preserving free and unfettered competition as the rule of trade (Northern Pacific Railway Company vs. United States, 1958; Reiter vs. Sonotone Corporation, 1979). It relies on a fundamental belief in supply and demand (Baum Research & Development Company vs. Hillerich & Bradsby, 1998). There are two main ways by which a plaintiff could challenge the NCAA's no–pay rules under Section 1 of the Sherman Act. First, the plaintiff could argue that the no–pay regulations signify a type of wage fixing that damages not only the market for the student–athletes' skills but also the value of college sports as a whole. Second, the plaintiff could argue that the NCAA rules create an unlawful group prohibition of those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though Clinton presented several good plans, a fair amount of the promises made can be called far– fetched and unrealistic. People are sure to be behind plans that will help the American people pursue the prosperous life they desire, but the people will not stand with a candidate that promises plans that are highly unlikely. For example creating a Constitutional amendment to stop Citizens United would be a difficult task as the process to pass a Constitutional Amendment would make it difficult as a there isn't an issue with bipartisan agreement. Making implausible vows can hurt Hillary Clinton during the campaign because she will have an increasing amount of skeptics questioning the honesty and validity of her plans. The people's trust in candidate Clinton can diminish if the people feel her ideas won't be fulfilled. For example, the mother could've been raped and not want to bring a child into the world believing that the world is full of hatred or not wanting to put the child in adoption care units allowing that child to ever think why did he or she end up here. Secondly, Hillary Clinton would allow mothers the chance at Planned Parenthood. This paper will discuss the history of TV, manufacturing companies behind this magical device, consumer profile on the users of it, global application, marketing strategies used to sell the product, and future predicaments on the technological advances in the upcoming years. Keywords: Television, consumers, device, technology, history, marketing, manufacture, product, worldwide, and future. My topic of choice is the television. I chose to write about it because it is the only technological device my family does not use. Although we have a television, it is never on because other companies like Netflix and news sites on the internet are taking over people's interest considering it is much more portable. I thought it would be interesting to learn about the history of TV and the future of it. I have witnessed how television screens went flat. If you enter any home in today's day and age you can see that nobody owns a tube style television or CRT. It is interesting to see consumers racing to receive the latest technological devices. Important Facts On July 21, 2009, former University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) basketball star, Edward O'Bannon, Jr filed suit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Electronic Arts (EA) and Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) over the use of former and current players' images in DVD's, video games, photographs, apparel and other material while prohibiting current and former Division 1 NCAA players from receiving any compensation. Mr. O'Bannon believed this is a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act (1890). The NCAA disagrees with the charges as presented and stated that the rules regarding compensation to student athletes are necessary to protect collegiate sports and the educational mission of the colleges involved. The NCAA was established in 1950 and currently has over 1,100 colleges. The NCAA has a broad range of rules, but for the purposes of the case, the rules in question deals with eligibility requirements, the number and size of scholarships each school can offer, and whether the student athletes can be compensated and for what they can be compensated for. All of these variables are under the strict control and decision of the NCAA, which currently states that student athletes cannot receive compensation outside of the set rules. The student athletes are considered as being compensated by scholarships and higher education but are limited to compensation that require the student's athletic skills to be performed outside of ... • 77. Sherman Antitrust Act : A Critical And Necessary Statute SHERMAN ANTITRUST ACT I claim that the Sherman Antitrust Act is a critical and necessary statute that gradually caused significant changes in business practices in order to ensure a competitive free market system essential for long term growth of the economy, although it faced criticisms for sacrificing economic efficiency. This fundamental statute continues to notably shape the economic landscape even today, albeit being more than 100 years old. The act contains three sections. The first section renders every contract, trust and conspiracy in restraint of interstate and foreign trade illegal (Dana 1903). The second section effectively penalizes everyone engaged in monopolizing any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with a foreign nation. The third section extends the first section to include U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Prior to the enactment of this act several states within the United States had passed similar laws for intrastate businesses. However, the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 was the first measure passed by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts and regulate interstate commerce (Initiative). The opponents of the act claim that it made the economy less efficient. Bradley (1990) asserts that the Sherman Act discouraged scale economies that promoted lower costs and prices, penalized successful market entrepreneurship, and rewarded the political entrepreneurship of less–efficient business rivals.
