Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
In Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451, multiple ideas and themes are shown similar between
Bradbury's envisioned society and today's society. Technology, increase in efficiency due to
technology, and thrill–seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury.
Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit's society and is
often brought up in today's society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that
television would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that
the introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over
human relationships. An example of this in today's society could be the people on the subway train.
We tend to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering our
virtual reality in our technology. But, this hasn't happened to an extent portrayed in the book.
Montag, the main character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him
questions like, "Are you happy" (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451's society, people haven't totally lost the
ability or will to connect to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how
technology has blinded people in his envisioned society. Mildred, Montag's wife, is a perfect
example of how technology is slowly consuming the lives of people in Fahrenheit 451. Everyday
Mildred sits in her room surrounded by a wall of

June 2013 1. Discuss using examples from a leisure industry of your choice, the extent to which
competition creates efficiency. There are many ways in which a firm or leisure industry can be
considered to be efficient. First of all they may be productively efficient. This is where they would
be operating at their lowest average cost, meaning they are benefiting from all economies of scales
and experience no diseconomies of scale. They particularly must avoid any waste of factors of
production. Allocative efficiency exists when the firm is operating where Price is equal to Marginal
Cost. When a firm or industry is allocatively efficient this means they are producing what society
wants and allocating resources to increase both output and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But increased competition is not the only factor; government intervention must also be considered.
In the leisure industry there is always a need for Travel Agents to be allocatively efficient, this is
because it is vital that they produce what society wants. If it was the case that certain Travel agents
were not providing the holidays that consumers wanted this would simply result in holiday makers
going elsewhere. This is especially the case at present because barriers to entry/exit have decreased
meaning new firms are entering the market all of the time due to improved communication. This has
increased competition mainly due to the internet as many travel agents and comparison websites
have set up online to compare the best deals, which increases the power to the consumer as they are
no longer required to visit the main four travel agents. This has resulted in a greater need for travel
agents to avoid mis–allocation of their resources by decreasing the number of planes and
destinations. This is because if they do not allocate their holidays to societies needs their Marginal
Cost will increase above their price. Therefore increased competition leads to an increase in the
need for firms to allocate resources to what society needs and ensure that they are increasing their
quality and output to become allocatively efficient. We have established that increased competition
will inevitably result in

"Accepting or Rejecting Innovation" by Jared Diamond, discusses about the factors and processes of
adopting new innovations. Diamond explained how innovations, no matter how progressive and
efficient it is can be delayed or not used at all. The first factor that decide the new technology can be
used is the economic advantage. This is the most obvious, according to the author is if the
technology can provide an economic advantage, society would more readily support it. The wheel
was used as an example in Native American society, compared to industrial nations, it was not as
valued economically due to the lack of domesticated animals. The second factor that the author list
was the social and prestigious value of the innovation also plays a crucial

Negatives Of Artificial Technology
Have you ever thought about advancements in technology? Have you ever thought about Artificial
Intelligence and robots taking over human jobs and changing society for the better ? Even though
Ray Bradbury, the author of Fahrenheit 451, said technological advances are detrimental, Artificial
Intelligence is beneficial to society because if it is programmed well, can be more efficient, do high
precise jobs, and also low repetitive jobs. Artificial Intelligence, or AI, and any other types of robot
can be more efficient than humans which can lead to better quality of products and for a prosperous
company. According to a Newsela Article, "Proponents think there are cases where a machine's
precision may outperform a human hand."(Surgeons test "intelligent tool" pg.1) Since humans are
not perfect, and now a days, with technological advancements, we need everything to be precise and
accurate to increase productivity and work ethic. With more efficiency, comes better quality and a
more prosperous company. If the quality of the product they make will be better that humans would
ever make, then with better quality, more people will buy the product, therefore leading to increased
purchases, which leads to increased prosperity for the company. Since robots can be more efficient,
which can lead to increased prosperity for the company, and can create a higher quality products are
just some of the many reasons on why technological advances are beneficial to society in the future.

Adam Smith 's Economic Philosophy
If I was to create the perfect society today, I would use Adam Smith's economic philosophy. Adam
Smith is known today as a modern philosopher. In order for a society to prosper, Smith believed that
their economy would have to function as a capitalist economy. The perfect, most efficient, society
would include specifically Smith's capitalist ideas of the division of labor, the sufficient pay of
workers, and would not include the use of slavery. These ideas will make the perfect society prosper.
The most important component of having the perfect, most efficient society, would be the division
of labor. The division of labor consists of one person doing one small task, another person doing
another small task, and other workers continuing the same process until the final product is
complete. An example of this would be the use of an assembly line while making pins, as Smith
mentions in his book An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. Smith
explains that the larger pin manufacture he saw with many workers, was more efficient than the
small manufacture of only ten employed workers who could make "upwards of forty–eight thousand
pins in a day" (Smith, 4). Smith then goes on to explain that, "But if they had all wrought separately
and independently...in consequence of a proper division and combination of their different
operations" (Smith, 4–5). Smith is saying that the workers could have made more than forty–eight
thousand pins in a day if they divided there

Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel Essay
It's so hot! Today, millions of motor vehicles are producing greenhouse gases that are flooding into
our atmosphere. At the rate society is going, a theme such as global warming is being considered
more and more. Not only is this petroleum addiction hurting our environment, it may also have
adverse affects on our independence. The United States imports most of its petroleum from foreign
nations which could pose problems in the future. This is why Alternative fuels such as hydrogen
should be extensively researched. The motor transportation industry should invest in extensive
research and development in hydrogen fuel to help the fuel economy create stronger national energy
security, make fuel more efficient and renewable, and more ... Show more content on

Although hydrogen can be beneficial, it poses a major problem; initial costs of hydrogen could be a
detrimental barrier. To start a Hydrogen economy, high initial infrastructure costs would be
inevitable ("Hydrogen"). The cost of distribution and even use of hydrogen would initially be
excessively high ("Hydrogen"). Although initial cost may be extremely high to produce and use
hydrogen, it is a necessity to help this nation become less dependent on foreign nations and to make
fuel more efficient and renewable. Fossil fuels are clearly a non–renewable resource and will be
depleted eventually, which is the reason hydrogen should be researched more extensively to help
develop a more efficient and renewable resource. Hydrogen can prove to be more energy efficient
and reliable than gasoline or diesel fuel. Gasoline and diesel fuel powered engines or internal
combustion engines are not ideally energy efficient. Internal combustion engines are approximately
twenty to thirty percent energy efficient (Woodbury). Most of the energy produced in the internal
combustion engine is lost in heat and friction before the
Brannan 3 piston is even pushed(Woodbury). Hydrogen is, however, a much more energy–efficient
fuel. Hydrogen–powered fuel cells are said to be about sixty percent energy

Positive And Negative Impact Of Electric Cars
Automotive have existed since the 1800s. As defined by Merriam–Webster, "Automotive is
everything related with self–propelled vehicles or machines". The automotive industry have change
the world in many positive and negative ways. The positive effect of automotive is evolving
transportation into a whole new better way making traveling faster and more convenient. The
negative effect of automotive in the our current society is that it causes many environmental

Electric cars are efficient because its energy efficient, cheaper power cost and less energy are wasted
in the process. Electric cars are energy efficient because it uses all the energy it only needs to run the
vehicle. Unlike conventional cars which still needs to convert energy by burning fuel, electric cars
are charge using electricity which is directly used to run the car. The use of electricity make electric
cars more efficient because electricity is cheaper than fuel in some countries. In a study done by
National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), the prices of fuel are said to be on the raise in
the next few year because of the increase in demand on fuel and the decrease in the oil reserve. Fuel
will become as expensive as gold. The market for fuel powered cars will soon decline in the
increase in oil prices. Unlike fuel, electricity can be produce with renewable energy through wind
turbines, hydroelectric plants and other more. Electricity can be produce with renewable energy
which means its stable and will not get despited in the near future or ever. As electric cars uses
electricity, the car does not emit noise and heat which are emitted by conventional cars. The voice
and heat produced by cars does not really have any use in cars. These are produced by conventional
cars which runs on fuel. On the other hand, Electric powered cars does not emit noise and heat
which make its use

Analysis Of Gauthier ( 1987 )
Gauthier (1987) argues that while moral constraints are necessary in certain cases, such as in the
presence of market failures, they are not required in a perfectly competitive market (PCM). The
PCM is defined by the absence of non–pecuniary externalities and public goods, perfect
information, certainty and mutual unconcern. In a PCM utility maximisation leads to a Pareto
efficient outcome. Since this allocation is efficient and achieved through free exchange, Gauthier
(1987) concludes that the PCM must be a morally free zone. Morality would result in a failure to
reach optimality. However, this essay will propose three different scenarios in which even PCMs
should have moral constraints placed upon them, and therefore cannot be morally ... Show more

Gauthier (1987:96) tries to get round this by arguing that in a PCM ""no one is affected, whether
beneficially or harmfully, by any market activity to which she has not chosen to be party." If this
were true it would rule out pecuniary externalities, but they obviously occur in PCMs. If Gauthier
still wanted to include the exclusion of pecuniary externalities, then he would undermine his own
argument that as long as a market is perfectly competitive it should be a morally free zone.
Nevertheless they are obviously important to consider when determining how morality should
interact with markets as they can have a significant impact on people's lives. Hausman (1992) uses
the example of the introduction of mechanical weaving looms to highlight this. The introduction of
mechanical looms would make the weaving industry more efficient, but would diminish the value of
the human and material capital of the hand loomers who had previously worked in the industry and
as a result would destroy their way of life. Defends of markets as morally free zones may respond
with the fact that PCMs should ensure these individuals are redirected to a new position. However,
even if they do manage to get a new job there is no guarantee that they will receive the

Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax
Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of
taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most
revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its
citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens.
One crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax(LVT) which will have
compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved
value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the
land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen
successful modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S.
state Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT
encourages economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while
combating harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial
risk is the foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One
of the main arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement
and property buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status
quo, property taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people
from making said decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine,
"Economists believe that LVT is superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners
from improving a property, while the former might encourage them to make the "highest and best
use" of their land"(Hurley 2017). In simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has
no negative effects to the owners of said property. This will provide an increase in the development
of properties and previously abandoned lots wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an
invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of a city because if more people decide to

The Communist Manifesto : Socialism And Communism
In order to discuss the different ways in which economists considered societies could resolve the
economic calculation problem and the implications of the economic calculation debate it is
important to consider different view points of influential economists from all over the world.
Revolutionary socialist Karl Marx believed that the economic calculation problem should be solved
adopting a communist approach; he expressed his ideas in his most notable work "The Communist
Manifesto" in 1848. Marx believed that capitalism should be replaced by socialism and eventually
communism and it should be done through abolishing markets, prices and private property. To
understand Marx's ideas it is important to define capitalism socialism and communism. Capitalism
can be defined as 'an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are
controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state'. On the other hand socialism can be
defined as 'a political and economic theory of social organization, which advocates that the means of
production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole'.
Finally, communism as defined in the Oxford dictionary is 'a theory or system of social organisation
in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives
according to their ability and needs'.
Influenced by Marx's work Vladimir Lenin, Russian revolutionary politician, implemented

Efficient Society or Vacant Humanity
Extended Definition
Preventing the wasteful use of a particular resource is one of the definitions of the word efficient.
The most common thought when people hear the word efficient is that when something is efficient it
is better than something that by comparison is not as efficient. Now we have gas efficient cars,
energy efficient appliances and as many highly efficiently people would say we are working to have
a more efficient society. What is the cost of more efficiency, in many things of course the more
efficient the better, with more energy efficient cars and appliances we are saving our planet reducing
car emissions make for cleaner air that we all breathe and will make us less reliant on fuel and other
natural resources. Can a real value or cost be put on the human mind and spirit, what happens to
people when they are set aside or determined to be of little or no use, what happens when people
begin to question their own worth in the world.
In Jeremy Rifkin's book Time Wars includes the reading selection "The Efficient Society" he is
analytical in his explanation of what is being considered to be an efficient society. In the critical
analysis he details the time management scenarios that are addressed to make more efficient
workers. Corporations need to produce more work from each of its workers and the way that the
companies take the time to measure

With the accounting of transactions economic entities are defined and measurement processes are

information was acknowledged the need for a conceptual framework of accounting came into being.
Once the conceptual framework is created a need for rules and laws that enforce the standards,

the formation of guiding organizations such as the SEC and the formulation of processes such as

Aristotle 's Views On Politics
To start off, it is important to understand where Aristotle's is coming from. Aristotle looked for
solutions in a Universal manner. Basically, the principles and solutions for correctness comes from
the idea that they have to be natural more than conventional. The idea of the good from Aristotle's
point of view comes from observation, he believed that the good is the final cause(there are three
others that will be discussed), and that everyone can understand judgement and collective moral
action. Aristotle also believed that people need to be able to have property so someone can have
more time for leisure. He has many other ideas that intertwine with the beliefs just mentioned. In
Aristotle's mind, politics is inevitable as being human requires us to live in a society, which means
dealing with other people and their desires. Because we must live in a society, Aristotle also has his
own ideas on justice, which he believes comes in two forms: distributive and corrective. More on
the two forms will be discussed in this document. To apply these viewpoints, rationals, and virtues
to the contemporary world, first I have to explain what they are in depth.
Aristotle's idea that the good is the final cause comes from observation of the object in question. For
example, the seed of a tree's final cause is to grow into a tree, but humans are different because we
are the highest form and have the highest capacity for communication among the animals of the
Earth, thus, humans' final

Negative Effects Of Smartphones
With the evolution of today's technology, widespread smartphone use did not begin until the mid–
to–late 90's. Smartphones, being readily available, offer society a world of conveniences. This
technology combines that of a computer with other electronic goods into a single handheld
instrument. While one may argue that the smartphone has many negative effects, far more benefits
come to mind. The smartphone does offer users several conveniences that make life easier and more
efficient. It seems smartphones add value to people and businesses, as well as provide benefits to
improve the quality of life using various functions. Today's smartphones allow users to stay in touch
with family and friends no matter what part of the world they reside. In times of emergencies,
smartphones can even help users feel safe. The technology of today's smartphone has enabled
society to become more efficient in daily activities, communicate more effectively, as well as
provide relief in emergencies.
Smartphones are Easy and Efficient
Based on the growth rate of smartphones, the number of consumers that carried one was
approximately 2 billion in 2016 and is expected to reach over 5 billion by 2025 (Götz, Stieger, &
Reips, 2017). The smartphone has made life easy and efficient by having the capability to support a
wide range of applications (Xia, Hsu, Liu, X., Liu, H., Ding, & Zhang, 2015). There are many free

Importance And Importance Of Entrepreneur
Entrepreneurship refers to the act of investing in productive capital and assuming risk for productive
ventures. An entrepreneur is an individual who purchases factors of production and combines them
to produce consumable output. Entrepreneurs are distinguished from capitalists– who rent out
capital to entrepreneurs– and workers, who sell their labor to entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are
indispensable to the functioning of any economy. Entrepreneurs grow economies by creating new
output, increase efficiency in economies, allocate society's resources efficiently, and serve
consumers and job–seekers. The foremost importance of the entrepreneur to the economy is the
creation of new output. At any given point in a society, production is stagnant. ... Show more

Entrepreneurs are continuously looking for ways to generate profits. An incidental consequence of
this permanent quest for profits is the fact that economies gradually become efficient as
entrepreneurs discover more efficient ways to turn out goods and services. In any industry,
entrepreneurs will adopt the best production methods available to stay competitive– and therefore
profitable. However, the competitive pressures of the market push entrepreneurs toward innovation.
Innovation involves a broad gamut of actions. Most notably, entrepreneurs will strive to improve
existing technology, to make their production endeavors less costly. Improving on existing
technology enables an entrepreneur to generate greater profits by cutting his production costs, and
therefore undercutting his competitions (Sowell, 2001; Mankiw, 2014). Soon enough, however, his
competitors also adopt his new production methods– depriving him of the advantage he initially
had. As a result, the entrepreneur must constantly be looking for methods to do things more
efficiently than his competition. Improvements in technology and production methods benefit the
whole of society. Foremost, improved efficiency reduces the marginal costs of production, resulting
in lower prices for consumers. Consumers are therefore able to purchase greater volumes of goods
and services for the same amount of

positive and negative factors that varied from the invention of Ford's Model T, to the output of
pollution due to increased industry. Between 1700 and 1850, the population skyrocketed and many
rural workers migrated to the city due to the availability of jobs. The first industry to come together

One invention was the telegraph, invented by Samuel Morse in the 1830s. The telegraph used

then translate it into letters or words. This new equipment invented during the revolution was very
impactful towards future events. It allowed long–ranged communications during World War One
and Two. It was used extensively during these events mainly because communication was key in the
battlefield. The telegraph created a completely new technique of communication that allowed a

McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book "The

phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a
culture adopts the principles of a fast–food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldization is the
process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book "The McDonaldization of Society" he is
actually referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word "McDonaldization"
simply indicates that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer

For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non–human technology to scan food in barcodes.
Non–human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For instance,
customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway
supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to
control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them
to act. The effects of non–human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling
customers' wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when
there are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it
efficient to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini–

their health but yet they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. People have taken

Feudalism Vs Capitalism
Feudalism differs from capitalism because there was no imperative to increase productivity. In
capitalism, the pressure of markets forces workers to become more efficient. There is a perpetual
competition between manufacturers for who can best meet the demands of the consumer, so workers
are constantly trying to improve their productivity. As laborers increase productivity, there is
technological advancement. If a worker or a business in a capitalist society fails to be efficient, it
will struggle to subsist because the consumer would accept cheaper deals from more efficient
manufacturers who could afford to offer lower prices. In contrast, there were specific rules, laws,

commodity (p. 46). In capitalism, land is bought and sold for economic profit, and whoever can
manipulate the real estate market the best makes the most money. Money is a major source of power
in capitalism, so one who successfully buys and sells land gains status in a capitalist society. In
feudal Europe, the King granted land to vassals that were the lords of large estates, who granted land
to vassals who were the lords of other estates, and all of the lords granted land to peasants (11/22
Notes). Peasants pledged an oath of fealty to their lords in exchange for land and military protection.
The amount of status a person had in feudal Europe was measured by the amount of people willing
to obey him (Feudal Europe Quiz), and the subservience of peasants came from a need for land,
which only lords possessed. Therefore, land was the currency of power, and power was not to be

The Industrial Revolution: The Smart Pill
Just as the steam engine and efficient coal production kicked off the Industrial Revolution, cognitive
enhancements will transform the modern era.
From an economic perspective, humanity welcomes any way to produce more goods for less. All
else equal, society wants four apples instead of two. Educated workers produce more goods than
uneducated workers, and the smart pill produces smarter, more educated workers.
From a historical perspective, civilizations must innovate or die. In 1800, pre–Industrial Revolution,
China and India were among the world's top military and economic powers. Then the Industrial
Revolution arrived, and China and India didn't adopt newfangled inventions like steam power. As a
result, by 1900, China had been partially, and India nearly completely, subjugated. ... Show more

More brainpower means smarter scientists and more technological breakthroughs, including in
smart pills. Smart pill breakthroughs create even smarter scientists, who invent even better smart
pills.
Extra coal fueled more than trains – it fueled weaving looms, mining equipment, and electric
generators. Similarly, extra brainpower will fuel unimaginable technological advances.
Although the smart pill will shake up society, we will eventually acclimate to those changes. Before
the Industrial Revolution, most workers worked from their farms. During the Industrial Revolution
though, managers popularized the concept of 'going to work.' Since machines were expensive,
managers found it more profitable to bring workers to the machine. Since yesterday's society
accepted going to work, today's society can accept whatever changes the smart pill brings.
Smart pills will probably help the wealthy more than the poor. On the personal side, the latest
technology can be expensive. For example, when automobiles were first introduced, only the
wealthy could afford them. On the business side, the wealthy can afford to manufacture, market, and
distribute these

Theories Of Scientific Management Theory And Human...
Executive Summary
The National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) of India defined human resource
management as "that part of management which is concerned with people at work and with their
relationship within an enterprise. Its aim is to bring together and develop into an effective
organization of the men and women who make up an enterprise and having regard for the well–
being of the individuals and of working groups, to enable them to make their best contribution to its
success." Human resource management always seeks the best theory to fulfill their intent in
managing the human resource. Some of the famous theories are scientific management theory and
behavioral management theory.
Scientific management theory is the starting point where people start to think scientifically. They do
not only depend on common habitual without considering it is efficient or not anymore. They start
to think effectively in enhancing productivity. Scientific management theory proposed some way in

that it is not only about the number and quantitative things. We need something that we called
qualitative thing which can support the quantitative thing. We cannot ignore that the satisfaction of
employee can affect the productivity. That is why, scientific management theory and behavioral
management should be mixing in order to get the primary point of Human Resource Management

Mcdonaldization Of Society By George Ritzer
In "The 'McDonaldization' of Society" written by George Ritzer, Ritzer explains how what
Americans do without thinking has ultimately led to an assembly line like culture. The saying "work
better not harder" plays right into his article by showing that us Americans want things done
efficient.
"The 'McDonaldization' of Society" George Ritzer explains what rationalization does to a
community. In this essay the word rationalization can be condensed to making a society more
efficient. Using the fast–food chain McDonald's to symbolize the American culture, Ritzer
efficiently conveys his idea. Ritzer focuses on five key aspects –efficiency, predictability,
quantitative results, technology and control– to show the role that rationalization has on America. ...

rationalization". Showing the reader that while he might not completely agree with everything he
understands that reversing the process would be detrimental. As far as the key aspects go, while
Ritzer was talking about technology it almost seemed like he was afraid of technology. Ritzer states
"... ultimately to replace human beings with machines and other technologies that lack the ability to

Due Process Model Versus Crime Control Model
Does the protection of many, outweigh the rights of an individual? That is the ultimate debate
between the crime control model, and the due process model. Although, if we break down the two
models, both would be needed in a perfect society. Now, choosing which I would prefer over the
other, I would prefer to have the crime control model, as the standard in all criminal justice systems
across the globe. The reason for this is, I would rather see the protection of my fellow society, and
being able to walk the streets freely, and be less worried. However, with me choosing that side, I
still would prefer to have both implemented correctly, and even change some of the steps in each
process, to try and make both processes more efficient, than how ... Show more content on

Now the pros of this model is that the whole process is suppose to be accelerated. Causing the
police force, and the courts to convict those guilty, or release the innocent back into society. The
faster this process is, the more time and effort the police force would be able to exert to lower the
overall crime rate in a city. Packer really showed this support by stating, " all of the components of
the criminal justice system must work together to increase the capacity to apprehend, try, convict,
and dispose of a high proportion of criminal offenders whose offenses become known." (p. 40).
Cons of this model however, can be rather horrifying in thought. The main con would be that, even
if you are innocent, you may still be convicted in a crime. It almost every aspect, if something is
incredibly fast and efficient, the accuracy will diminish. Although convictions will increase, the
chances of being wrongfully accused would tarnish the society. Instead of having to worry about
crime in general, the society would have to be worried to not be accused for anything. In a weird
comparison, the society would turn into a town like Salem, in which although you are innocent,
because you were accused you will be

The Use of Cars Causes Market Failure. to Achieve an...
The use of cars causes market failure. To achieve an efficient use of resources it would be better if
governments intervened to affect both the production and the use of cars. Explain the meaning of the
terms 'market failure' and 'the efficient use of resources' and analyse whether economic theory can
be used to support this argument. [25] Market failure exists when the operation of a market does not
lead to economic efficiency. It is a situation where a free market does not produce the best use of
scarce resources. Typical examples are when externalities are present, when there is monopoly
power or where it is necessary for public and merit goods to be provided by the government or even
when there is possible excessive profits or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It might allow the production firms to finally achieve allocative efficiency. In conclusion, the
consumption of cars creates both positive and negative externalities. However the negative
externalities it is more than its positive externalities so producers tend to overvalue and over
produce. The government tries to intervene by imposing taxes on the production of cars. However
this is not usually effective as the imposion of taxes depends on the elasticity of the product. The
demand of cars is not price elastic. In the diagram above, we have a normal downward sloping
demand curve and two upward sloping supply curves. The lower one, the marginal private cost,
represents the car firm's supply curve (remember that the firm's supply curve is also its marginal
cost curve). The other one, the marginal social cost, represents the true supply curve (and, therefore,
the true marginal cost of production) for society as a whole, allowing for the external cost of
production. This external cost is represented by the vertical distance between the two supply curves
(AB). The car firm does not care about the pollution. The owner is simply interested in maximizing
profits. The equilibrium price for him is where demand equals his supply curve, at point B, so
output will be Q1 with price at P1. Given that there is pollution, though, the optimal point for the
whole of society is at C, where output is Q2 and price P2. Hence, if left to the free

Analysis of Marx, Weber, and Durkheim's Views Essay
The sociological views of the three founding fathers; Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim
all assert that various aspects of our lifestyle are fully a product of the society in which we live.
Each theorist views the impact of society and its manifestation of our identity in a different way. All
three of these men used the Industrial Revolution and capitalism to shape their theories of social
identity, especially the identity created by capitalism's division of labor; the owners of the means of
production; the bourgeoisie and the oppressed proletariat. The Industrial Revolution was a major
turning point in the recent history of the world. This shaped the "theological" point of view and
underpinned this social and economic paradigm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could only be accomplished through the Marxist agenda for change and the realization of the
proletariat that they were being exploited, the underclass must unite for the common purpose and
rise up and demand change. Only once this was accomplished can the underclass begin to change
their way of life to an increase in the quality of life. The inequities between the laboring and
capitalist classes in society spawned the concept of socialism where in turn the benevolent members
of society would help reflect their knowledge onto the proletariat and thus the equilibrium would
occur. This soon inspired the Communist ideology where a classless society existed and everyone
was working for the common good. Marx thought of Communism as a new form of social
organization that majored in cooperation among society. The second father of the big debate would
be Max Weber. Weber took a middle standpoint on the Capitalistic spectrum. Weber was influenced
by a religious ideology; one of a protestant work ethic viewpoint; work hard in this life and be
rewarded in Heaven. Weber greatly believed that by impressing God, an individual will succeed in
life. Although Weber was strongly influenced by the works of Karl Marx he was more interested in
the existential reasoning as to why technology came to be, his conclusion was that work got
complicated and that individuals needed a way to be

RESEARCH ESSAY
Microeconomics is defined as a study of how economic decisions are made by individuals and
groups along with the range of factors affecting those decisions. In relevance to this, the analysis of
perfect competition and monopoly regarding efficiency is considered one of the most core basis to
the understanding of Microeconomics. This paper argues that a perfectly competitive industry leads
to more efficient outcomes for an economy than a monopoly does. In this essay, I will first define
the concept of two market structure types and then go on to explore how they ... Show more content

So, in this case, perfectly competitive firms can also obtain technical efficiency.
As seen in the right graph, with the lack of competition, firms in monopoly can earn great economic
profits since they charge a much higher price compared to perfectly competitive firms. According to
the diagram, there is allocative inefficiency since monopoly price is higher than MC; firms are
producing too little while offering a too high price. In other words, with monopolists, "resources are
under–allocated" to the production of their product (Layton, Robinson and Tucker 2009, 223).
Along with this, monopoly firms are not producing the level of outputs where ATC is at its
minimum point due to the assistance of high barriers to entry. Thus, firms in monopoly once again
fail to gain technical efficiency.
Considering the previous discussion, the next section of this paper will explore how the industries of
perfect competition and monopoly affect consumer surplus and producer surplus and hence,
economic welfare as a whole. In brief, consumer surplus is the difference between the maximum
price a consumer is willing to pay and the actual price paid. Producer surplus is the difference
between the minimum price a firm is willing to charge and the actual price charged. Below are the
two graphs illustrating the differences in economic welfare between the two market structures:

to carry out the activities of his society. He is an understanding, but strong–willed individual who

"There are stations which may contain as many as forty buildings occupied by unmounted couriers,

had a station every three miles with new running couriers, so they wouldn't have to run over 3 miles
at a time. This quote shows how efficient his system was, "no more than a day and a night to cover a
ten days' journey"(153). Not only did he have running couriers, he also had 200 horses at every post

Why People Want To Protest Research Paper
People want to participate in protests to be united, defend their opinions, make society better for all
citizens. Protests are most effective when they don't discriminate and stand up for themselves.
First off, Citizens decided to protest to be united. Nixon believed that the only way to end the war
and stop the fighting was for the American people to be united. He thought the protesters were
unpatriotic, and stopping Americans from uniting themselves. Nixon wanted the support of the
American people so he could make a plan to end the Vietnam War. In his speech he said, " I
recognize that some of my fellow citizens disagree with the plan of peace I have chosen, honest and
patriotic Americans have reached different conclusions as to how peace should be achieved."
Secondly, Citizens want to participate in protests to defend their opinions, to fight against something
they personally don't like or agree with. People could disagree with a laws, politics or decisions that
the government makes. People opposed the Vietnam War because more and more people died
everyday for a useless war, that the government knew they were not going to win. John Kerry said
himself, " We believe the will of the people says that we should be out of Vietnam war now."

wealthy people are paying double the price of smashed hopes and homes. MLK Jr. thought that they

We need to protest." MlK Jr. had very strong beliefs about having an better and more equal society

Sustainability : Sustainability And Environmental...
Sustainability is a topic that has become very important in recent years. Sustainability is defined as,
"the ability to continue a defined behavior indefinitely." ("Finding and Resolving the Root Causes of
the Sustainability Problem", 2014)
There are three pillars that make up overall sustainability: social, economic, and environmental
sustainability. Social sustainability focuses on all human needs being met and a society functioning
properly indefinitely. Economic sustainability is achieving a certain level of economic success
indefinitely. It also involves having an extremely low percent of people living below the poverty
line, which relates to social sustainability. Environmental sustainability is described as, "the rates of
renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non–renewable resource depletion that can be
continued indefinitely." ("Finding and Resolving the Root Causes of the Sustainability Problem",
2014) Achieving environmental sustainability will positively affect the social and economic aspects.
These three categories are directly related to each other, and to truly reach complete sustainability
each of the group's needs must be met. There are many ways for individuals, groups, companies,
and societies to help make a difference in reaching this goal. Environmental issues are currently
very prominent in the US and other countries. There are countless activists and researchers doing

Capitalist Theory Of Capitalism
Capitalist structures were thought to be 'double hermeneutic' by Weber. A double hermeneutic is "a
theory, expounded by sociologist Anthony Giddens, that everyday "lay" concepts and those from
social sciences have a two–way relationship. A common example is the idea of social class; a
social–scientific category that has perpetuated into wider use in society" (WIKIPEDIA, 2017).
These people were a group of religious scholars, who believed that the truth that is included within
the text, is wider than the words on the page. Through these religious scholars and their beliefs
eventually led to the evolution from a religious society to a capitalist society. The capitalist society
that we live in today, created a market system used from religious beliefs, presenting the payments
for sins committed by an individual in the future and for not confessing the sins committed in the
present. Modern capitalism still refers to Weber's theory today, showing interest of how each
individual has their own path chosen, depending on the amount of money they own, organising
ourselves into different organisations as well as, the different societies we join within the hierarchy.
Through the different societies of our day–to–day lives we see each of them joining together as one,
expressing ideas and thoughts to create the markets systems we see in this century.
So what is the structural drive for efficiency?
The drive for efficiency is based on individuals which creates success and greed, due to

a. Hurricane insurance for beach houses: Efficient outcomes because individual that build a house

justified. For clarification of today's round, I offer the following counter definitions. To begin with,
the word prison reform is defined as the attempt to improve conditions inside prisons, aiming at a

not shown to be right or reasonable. The highest value within today's round is efficiency and it is
defined as performing or functioning in the best possible way with the least waste of time and effort.
Efficiency is most important in today's round because it shows how prisons are functioning in the
way that they are supposed to, and they are providing the prisoners will all of their necessities such
as education as well as food. The best criterion for evaluating this resolution is effectiveness and it
is defined as successful in producing a desired or intended result. It best achieves my value of
efficiency because it clearly shows how useful it is and how it gets the job done respectively.

Nazi party gained public traction by assigning hate to the Jewish community. The Nazi party used
Jews as their outlet for public angry. The jews have money when we are poor, the jews are the

Weber Vs Durkheim
When an individual goes against the norms of the collective conscience they are punished (The
Division of labor in society 79–80). The government represents society and is the collective
conscious in one force. When people break the rules the collective conscious reaffirms their norms
and adjusts them if society feels necessary. For example, if someone commits a crime citizens get
upset because it goes against the collective norms. Durkheim promoted cult of personality in his
society. The cult of personality is when individuals respect diversity whether it is religious, class,
race, gender, or ability. He encourages people to recognize that we all come from different
backgrounds and have different ideas of norms based on our society. Durkheim ... Show more

Weber believed that capitalism stemmed from the religious ideas of Protestant, Lutheran and
Calvinist. In the protestant church if you are wealthy god blessed you with wealth and you are going
to heaven and if you are poor god did not bless you and you are probably going to hell. In
Lutheranism ones has a calling. You have a mission in life that God wants you to complete. In
Calvinist you can understand your mission in life by how much wealth you have. So if you are
making a lot of money you are completing your calling and God is rewarding you. Weber thinks
everything is being secularized so just take god out of the equations and you have Capitalism. He
thinks the best we can do is Capitalism, and while not an ardent supporter, also acknowledges that
anything else would be worse. Weber does not believe that society has any laws. There is one trend
in society and it is towards rationalization (every greater things getting done for the benefit of
productivity). Weber ardors the idea of society being bureaucratized, working together for the best
strategy. However, he also acknowledges that socialism may be more efficient, but it impedes one's
creativity and mind. Therefore, "Bureaucracy is the means of carrying 'community action' over into
rationally ordered 'societal action'" (Economy and Society, pgs. 229–30). By having a bureaucratic

1. What is scarcity? How does scarcity relate to trade–offs?
Scarcity is when resources are limited, therefore not available or sufficient to meet demand. Scarcity
relates to trade–offs because due to resources being limited, all demands cannot be fulfilled. In that
case, the consumer must choose to make a trade off in order to use what scarce resources they have
to meet some but not all of the needs that they have.

Centrally planned economies tend to not have a problem with unemployment, and market
economies do because market economies can't predict supply and demand unlike how centrally
planned economies know how much to produce in order to keep up with the need of the market.
Market economies are able to keep up with shifts in demand, where centrally planned economies are
unable to do so since they need permission from the single person or group that is in charge of
decisions before making any changes to their output, which also makes them more efficient. A
couple other differences are that centrally planned economies have compensation that is morally
based, and the assets tend to be state owned, where a market economy's compensation is usually
material goods and the assets are privately owned.
6. What are the key differences between macroeconomics and microeconomics?
The key differences between macroeconomics and microeconomics are:
Macroeconomics analyzes the overall economy and the issues affecting it such a growth, inflation
and unemployment, where microeconomics only studies how those issues affect individual markets
and how they make decisions about allocating scarce resources.
The main focus in macroeconomics is to maximize national income and growth, while the goal in

Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451

  • 1. Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 In Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451, multiple ideas and themes are shown similar between Bradbury's envisioned society and today's society. Technology, increase in efficiency due to technology, and thrill–seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury. Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit's society and is often brought up in today's society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that television would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that the introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over human relationships. An example of this in today's society could be the people on the subway train. We tend to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering our virtual reality in our technology. But, this hasn't happened to an extent portrayed in the book. Montag, the main character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him questions like, "Are you happy" (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451's society, people haven't totally lost the ability or will to connect to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how technology has blinded people in his envisioned society. Mildred, Montag's wife, is a perfect example of how technology is slowly consuming the lives of people in Fahrenheit 451. Everyday Mildred sits in her room surrounded by a wall of ... • 2. 1. Discuss using examples from a leisure industry of your... June 2013 1. Discuss using examples from a leisure industry of your choice, the extent to which competition creates efficiency. There are many ways in which a firm or leisure industry can be considered to be efficient. First of all they may be productively efficient. This is where they would be operating at their lowest average cost, meaning they are benefiting from all economies of scales and experience no diseconomies of scale. They particularly must avoid any waste of factors of production. Allocative efficiency exists when the firm is operating where Price is equal to Marginal Cost. When a firm or industry is allocatively efficient this means they are producing what society wants and allocating resources to increase both output and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But increased competition is not the only factor; government intervention must also be considered. In the leisure industry there is always a need for Travel Agents to be allocatively efficient, this is because it is vital that they produce what society wants. If it was the case that certain Travel agents were not providing the holidays that consumers wanted this would simply result in holiday makers going elsewhere. This is especially the case at present because barriers to entry/exit have decreased meaning new firms are entering the market all of the time due to improved communication. This has increased competition mainly due to the internet as many travel agents and comparison websites have set up online to compare the best deals, which increases the power to the consumer as they are no longer required to visit the main four travel agents. This has resulted in a greater need for travel agents to avoid mis–allocation of their resources by decreasing the number of planes and destinations. This is because if they do not allocate their holidays to societies needs their Marginal Cost will increase above their price. Therefore increased competition leads to an increase in the need for firms to allocate resources to what society needs and ensure that they are increasing their quality and output to become allocatively efficient. We have established that increased competition will inevitably result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Accepting Or Rejecting Innovation By Jared... "Accepting or Rejecting Innovation" by Jared Diamond, discusses about the factors and processes of adopting new innovations. Diamond explained how innovations, no matter how progressive and efficient it is can be delayed or not used at all. The first factor that decide the new technology can be used is the economic advantage. This is the most obvious, according to the author is if the technology can provide an economic advantage, society would more readily support it. The wheel was used as an example in Native American society, compared to industrial nations, it was not as valued economically due to the lack of domesticated animals. The second factor that the author list was the social and prestigious value of the innovation also plays a crucial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Negatives Of Artificial Technology Have you ever thought about advancements in technology? Have you ever thought about Artificial Intelligence and robots taking over human jobs and changing society for the better ? Even though Ray Bradbury, the author of Fahrenheit 451, said technological advances are detrimental, Artificial Intelligence is beneficial to society because if it is programmed well, can be more efficient, do high precise jobs, and also low repetitive jobs. Artificial Intelligence, or AI, and any other types of robot can be more efficient than humans which can lead to better quality of products and for a prosperous company. According to a Newsela Article, "Proponents think there are cases where a machine's precision may outperform a human hand."(Surgeons test "intelligent tool" pg.1) Since humans are not perfect, and now a days, with technological advancements, we need everything to be precise and accurate to increase productivity and work ethic. With more efficiency, comes better quality and a more prosperous company. If the quality of the product they make will be better that humans would ever make, then with better quality, more people will buy the product, therefore leading to increased purchases, which leads to increased prosperity for the company. Since robots can be more efficient, which can lead to increased prosperity for the company, and can create a higher quality products are just some of the many reasons on why technological advances are beneficial to society in the future. • 5. Adam Smith 's Economic Philosophy If I was to create the perfect society today, I would use Adam Smith's economic philosophy. Adam Smith is known today as a modern philosopher. In order for a society to prosper, Smith believed that their economy would have to function as a capitalist economy. The perfect, most efficient, society would include specifically Smith's capitalist ideas of the division of labor, the sufficient pay of workers, and would not include the use of slavery. These ideas will make the perfect society prosper. The most important component of having the perfect, most efficient society, would be the division of labor. The division of labor consists of one person doing one small task, another person doing another small task, and other workers continuing the same process until the final product is complete. An example of this would be the use of an assembly line while making pins, as Smith mentions in his book An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. Smith explains that the larger pin manufacture he saw with many workers, was more efficient than the small manufacture of only ten employed workers who could make "upwards of forty–eight thousand pins in a day" (Smith, 4). Smith then goes on to explain that, "But if they had all wrought separately and independently...in consequence of a proper division and combination of their different operations" (Smith, 4–5). Smith is saying that the workers could have made more than forty–eight thousand pins in a day if they divided there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel Essay It's so hot! Today, millions of motor vehicles are producing greenhouse gases that are flooding into our atmosphere. At the rate society is going, a theme such as global warming is being considered more and more. Not only is this petroleum addiction hurting our environment, it may also have adverse affects on our independence. The United States imports most of its petroleum from foreign nations which could pose problems in the future. This is why Alternative fuels such as hydrogen should be extensively researched. The motor transportation industry should invest in extensive research and development in hydrogen fuel to help the fuel economy create stronger national energy security, make fuel more efficient and renewable, and more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although hydrogen can be beneficial, it poses a major problem; initial costs of hydrogen could be a detrimental barrier. To start a Hydrogen economy, high initial infrastructure costs would be inevitable ("Hydrogen"). The cost of distribution and even use of hydrogen would initially be excessively high ("Hydrogen"). Although initial cost may be extremely high to produce and use hydrogen, it is a necessity to help this nation become less dependent on foreign nations and to make fuel more efficient and renewable. Fossil fuels are clearly a non–renewable resource and will be depleted eventually, which is the reason hydrogen should be researched more extensively to help develop a more efficient and renewable resource. Hydrogen can prove to be more energy efficient and reliable than gasoline or diesel fuel. Gasoline and diesel fuel powered engines or internal combustion engines are not ideally energy efficient. Internal combustion engines are approximately twenty to thirty percent energy efficient (Woodbury). Most of the energy produced in the internal combustion engine is lost in heat and friction before the Brannan 3 piston is even pushed(Woodbury). Hydrogen is, however, a much more energy–efficient fuel. Hydrogen–powered fuel cells are said to be about sixty percent energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Positive And Negative Impact Of Electric Cars Automotive have existed since the 1800s. As defined by Merriam–Webster, "Automotive is everything related with self–propelled vehicles or machines". The automotive industry have change the world in many positive and negative ways. The positive effect of automotive is evolving transportation into a whole new better way making traveling faster and more convenient. The negative effect of automotive in the our current society is that it causes many environmental problem. Throughout the history of automotive, electric powered cars aren't new in fact electric cars was invented first before the conventional internal combustion engine was invented. The invention of the internal combustion engine brought about the decline and cancelation of the manufacturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Electric cars are efficient because its energy efficient, cheaper power cost and less energy are wasted in the process. Electric cars are energy efficient because it uses all the energy it only needs to run the vehicle. Unlike conventional cars which still needs to convert energy by burning fuel, electric cars are charge using electricity which is directly used to run the car. The use of electricity make electric cars more efficient because electricity is cheaper than fuel in some countries. In a study done by National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), the prices of fuel are said to be on the raise in the next few year because of the increase in demand on fuel and the decrease in the oil reserve. Fuel will become as expensive as gold. The market for fuel powered cars will soon decline in the increase in oil prices. Unlike fuel, electricity can be produce with renewable energy through wind turbines, hydroelectric plants and other more. Electricity can be produce with renewable energy which means its stable and will not get despited in the near future or ever. As electric cars uses electricity, the car does not emit noise and heat which are emitted by conventional cars. The voice and heat produced by cars does not really have any use in cars. These are produced by conventional cars which runs on fuel. On the other hand, Electric powered cars does not emit noise and heat which make its use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Gauthier ( 1987 ) Gauthier (1987) argues that while moral constraints are necessary in certain cases, such as in the presence of market failures, they are not required in a perfectly competitive market (PCM). The PCM is defined by the absence of non–pecuniary externalities and public goods, perfect information, certainty and mutual unconcern. In a PCM utility maximisation leads to a Pareto efficient outcome. Since this allocation is efficient and achieved through free exchange, Gauthier (1987) concludes that the PCM must be a morally free zone. Morality would result in a failure to reach optimality. However, this essay will propose three different scenarios in which even PCMs should have moral constraints placed upon them, and therefore cannot be morally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gauthier (1987:96) tries to get round this by arguing that in a PCM ""no one is affected, whether beneficially or harmfully, by any market activity to which she has not chosen to be party." If this were true it would rule out pecuniary externalities, but they obviously occur in PCMs. If Gauthier still wanted to include the exclusion of pecuniary externalities, then he would undermine his own argument that as long as a market is perfectly competitive it should be a morally free zone. Nevertheless they are obviously important to consider when determining how morality should interact with markets as they can have a significant impact on people's lives. Hausman (1992) uses the example of the introduction of mechanical weaving looms to highlight this. The introduction of mechanical looms would make the weaving industry more efficient, but would diminish the value of the human and material capital of the hand loomers who had previously worked in the industry and as a result would destroy their way of life. • 9. Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens. One crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax(LVT) which will have compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen successful modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S. state Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT encourages economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while combating harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, "Economists believe that LVT is superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a property, while the former might encourage them to make the "highest and best use" of their land"(Hurley 2017). In simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative effects to the owners of said property. This will provide an increase in the development of properties and previously abandoned lots wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of a city because if more people decide to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Communist Manifesto : Socialism And Communism In order to discuss the different ways in which economists considered societies could resolve the economic calculation problem and the implications of the economic calculation debate it is important to consider different view points of influential economists from all over the world. Revolutionary socialist Karl Marx believed that the economic calculation problem should be solved adopting a communist approach; he expressed his ideas in his most notable work "The Communist Manifesto" in 1848. Marx believed that capitalism should be replaced by socialism and eventually communism and it should be done through abolishing markets, prices and private property. To understand Marx's ideas it is important to define capitalism socialism and communism. Capitalism can be defined as 'an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state'. On the other hand socialism can be defined as 'a political and economic theory of social organization, which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole'. Finally, communism as defined in the Oxford dictionary is 'a theory or system of social organisation in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs'. • 11. Efficient Society Vs Efficient Society Tiffany Deichmann Chilton, Lawrence English 1301 25 October, 2017 Efficient Society or Vacant Humanity Extended Definition Preventing the wasteful use of a particular resource is one of the definitions of the word efficient. The most common thought when people hear the word efficient is that when something is efficient it is better than something that by comparison is not as efficient. Now we have gas efficient cars, energy efficient appliances and as many highly efficiently people would say we are working to have a more efficient society. What is the cost of more efficiency, in many things of course the more efficient the better, with more energy efficient cars and appliances we are saving our planet reducing car emissions make for cleaner air that we all breathe and will make us less reliant on fuel and other natural resources. Can a real value or cost be put on the human mind and spirit, what happens to people when they are set aside or determined to be of little or no use, what happens when people begin to question their own worth in the world. In Jeremy Rifkin's book Time Wars includes the reading selection "The Efficient Society" he is analytical in his explanation of what is being considered to be an efficient society. In the critical analysis he details the time management scenarios that are addressed to make more efficient workers. • 13. Aristotle 's Views On Politics To start off, it is important to understand where Aristotle's is coming from. Aristotle looked for solutions in a Universal manner. Basically, the principles and solutions for correctness comes from the idea that they have to be natural more than conventional. The idea of the good from Aristotle's point of view comes from observation, he believed that the good is the final cause(there are three others that will be discussed), and that everyone can understand judgement and collective moral action. Aristotle also believed that people need to be able to have property so someone can have more time for leisure. He has many other ideas that intertwine with the beliefs just mentioned. In Aristotle's mind, politics is inevitable as being human requires us to live in a society, which means dealing with other people and their desires. Because we must live in a society, Aristotle also has his own ideas on justice, which he believes comes in two forms: distributive and corrective. More on the two forms will be discussed in this document. To apply these viewpoints, rationals, and virtues to the contemporary world, first I have to explain what they are in depth. Aristotle's idea that the good is the final cause comes from observation of the object in question. For example, the seed of a tree's final cause is to grow into a tree, but humans are different because we are the highest form and have the highest capacity for communication among the animals of the Earth, thus, humans' final ... However, the competitive pressures of the market push entrepreneurs toward innovation. Innovation involves a broad gamut of actions. Most notably, entrepreneurs will strive to improve existing technology, to make their production endeavors less costly. Improving on existing technology enables an entrepreneur to generate greater profits by cutting his production costs, and therefore undercutting his competitions (Sowell, 2001; Mankiw, 2014). However this is not usually effective as the imposion of taxes depends on the elasticity of the product. The demand of cars is not price elastic. In the diagram above, we have a normal downward sloping demand curve and two upward sloping supply curves. So, in this case, perfectly competitive firms can also obtain technical efficiency. As seen in the right graph, with the lack of competition, firms in monopoly can earn great economic profits since they charge a much higher price compared to perfectly competitive firms. According to the diagram, there is allocative inefficiency since monopoly price is higher than MC; firms are producing too little while offering a too high price. In other words, with monopolists, "resources are under–allocated" to the production of their product (Layton, Robinson and Tucker 2009, 223). Along with this, monopoly firms are not producing the level of outputs where ATC is at its minimum point due to the assistance of high barriers to entry. Thus, firms in monopoly once again fail to gain technical efficiency. • 29. Kubilai Khan's Society In The Travels By Marco Polo In the book of The Travels by Marco Polo, he explains the smoothly working society that was put together by Kubilai Khan. Kubilai Khan is the Great Khan of China during Marco Polo's trip to China in 1271. A Khan is almost that of a dictator in which he decides on what the laws are and how to carry out the activities of his society. He is an understanding, but strong–willed individual who still rules with an iron fist, and is caring at the same time. The society he built was spread throughout the nation and worked very well for a long time. He maintained and reigned for thirty– four years from 1260 to 1294. As well as his version of society worked, many people despised him many because of the amount of power he had over everyone. As stated in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "There are stations which may contain as many as forty buildings occupied by unmounted couriers, who also play a part in the Great Khan's postal service"(152), this is the main part to Kubilai's postal system. I think his postal system was very complex and efficient for the technology of the time. He had a station every three miles with new running couriers, so they wouldn't have to run over 3 miles at a time. This quote shows how efficient his system was, "no more than a day and a night to cover a ten days' journey"(153). Not only did he have running couriers, he also had 200 horses at every post also, and ferries to cross rivers. Another service he provided was something of what resembles crop and livestock insurance of today. He created a system to repay and cover farmers losses in the case of an unfortunate event. He not only paid for their losses but also gave them grain or meat to help feed the family. But, when there was a good harvest, he bought the grain and stored it in granaries as stated here, "when he sees that the harvests are plentiful and corn is cheap, accumulates vast quantities of it and stores it in huge ... • 31. Sustainability : Sustainability And Environmental... Sustainability is a topic that has become very important in recent years. Sustainability is defined as, "the ability to continue a defined behavior indefinitely." ("Finding and Resolving the Root Causes of the Sustainability Problem", 2014) There are three pillars that make up overall sustainability: social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Social sustainability focuses on all human needs being met and a society functioning properly indefinitely. Economic sustainability is achieving a certain level of economic success indefinitely. It also involves having an extremely low percent of people living below the poverty line, which relates to social sustainability. Environmental sustainability is described as, "the rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non–renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely." ("Finding and Resolving the Root Causes of the Sustainability Problem", 2014) Achieving environmental sustainability will positively affect the social and economic aspects. These three categories are directly related to each other, and to truly reach complete sustainability each of the group's needs must be met. There are many ways for individuals, groups, companies, and societies to help make a difference in reaching this goal. Environmental issues are currently very prominent in the US and other countries. There are countless activists and researchers doing everything they can to make a difference. Most businesses, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of The Mcdonaldization Of Society As to perfectly punctuate the paper "The McDonaldization of Society" by George Ritzer, I got tired of reading it and made my computer read it to me while I listened, which although efficient added an emphasis on all the topics Ritzer discussed in his writing. McDonaldization is the sociological term used to describe the wide spread affects of fast food restaurants on society, whose affects can be seen in almost all aspects of todays society. The first aspect of McDonaldization as highlighted in the article is the "assembly line" structure, as used by fast food restaurants; it provides an efficient way for food to be prepared, served, eaten and disposed of as fast as possible. • 33. Capitalist Theory Of Capitalism Capitalist structures were thought to be 'double hermeneutic' by Weber. A double hermeneutic is "a theory, expounded by sociologist Anthony Giddens, that everyday "lay" concepts and those from social sciences have a two–way relationship. A common example is the idea of social class; a social–scientific category that has perpetuated into wider use in society" (WIKIPEDIA, 2017). These people were a group of religious scholars, who believed that the truth that is included within the text, is wider than the words on the page. Through these religious scholars and their beliefs eventually led to the evolution from a religious society to a capitalist society. The capitalist society that we live in today, created a market system used from religious beliefs, presenting the payments for sins committed by an individual in the future and for not confessing the sins committed in the present. Modern capitalism still refers to Weber's theory today, showing interest of how each individual has their own path chosen, depending on the amount of money they own, organising ourselves into different organisations as well as, the different societies we join within the hierarchy. Through the different societies of our day–to–day lives we see each of them joining together as one, expressing ideas and thoughts to create the markets systems we see in this century. So what is the structural drive for efficiency? The drive for efficiency is based on individuals which creates success and greed, due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In which of the following markets do you expect efficient outcomes? Why a. Hurricane insurance for beach houses: Efficient outcomes because individual that build a house on the beach would more than likely acquire some type of insurance, for example, flood insurance, knowing that hurricanes can destroy everything. You would expect that the market for flood insurance would function fairly efficiently. b. Medical care: c. Stock market – Efficient outcomes; because it not a monopoly market. It's not a market with only one seller of a good. It has lots of buyers and sellers. So you would expect efficient outcome. d. MP3 Players – Efficient outcomes because it's not a monopoly market because of other competitor. There are a lot of companies that sells players, however, for MP3 you have consumers who would prefer MP3 over the other brands, so, more than likely you would expect efficient outcome. e. It's not likely to improve social welfare because social welfare function summarizes society's preferences concerning the utility (Happiness) of each of its member. In the position that prison reform is not justified and shouldn't be ruled in favor of, that I feel compelled to negate today's resolution. Resolved: Prison reform is not justified. For clarification of today's round, I offer the following counter definitions. To begin with, the word prison reform is defined as the attempt to improve conditions inside prisons, aiming at a more effective penal system. In addition to that, the term not justified is defined as something that is not shown to be right or reasonable. The highest value within today's round is efficiency and it is defined as performing or functioning in the best possible way with the least waste of time and effort. Efficiency is most important in today's round because it shows how prisons are functioning in the way that they are supposed to, and they are providing the prisoners will all of their necessities such as education as well as food. The best criterion for evaluating this resolution is effectiveness and it is defined as successful in producing a desired or intended result. It best achieves my value of efficiency because it clearly shows how useful it is and how it gets the job done respectively. The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas Essay Ursula Le Guin's short story, "The Ones Who Walked away from Omelas," is Guin's depiction of the relationship between societies and the maintenance of animalistic instinct in man. Omelas is described as a luxurious sophisticated Utopia, that is completely self–efficient, however it participates in ritualistic public neglect of some children. They, the society of Omelas, cage certain children and put their suffering on display for the whole City, and World to see. As the reader we must ask ourselves what do societies need to be societies? The story says, "but they all understand that their happiness... depend wholly on this child's abominable misery (Guin 5)." Why would this be? Look at the negative aspect of successful societies. Germany right before WW2. Germany was a broke country, with no infrastructure. The Nazi party gained public traction by assigning hate to the Jewish community. The Nazi party used Jews as their outlet for public angry. The jews have money when we are poor, the jews are the reason for Germany's downfall. Germany's infrastructure and economy started to rebuild at rates never seen before in World economics, simply because the public was connected, although by hate, such connection made them organized and unified. Germany was prosperous and advanced for its' time much like Omelas. Omelas could be doing a similar thing. This child is on display, people choose to visit the "attraction" to relive their built–up frustrations or angers. This child is continuously in agony. This could be, for Omelas, as well as be therapy for the common man. This might not make sense to sane individuals, but, from a community that has seen this torture since an early age, it is going to be normalized. • 37. Weber Vs Durkheim When an individual goes against the norms of the collective conscience they are punished (The Division of labor in society 79–80). The government represents society and is the collective conscious in one force. When people break the rules the collective conscious reaffirms their norms and adjusts them if society feels necessary. For example, if someone commits a crime citizens get upset because it goes against the collective norms. Durkheim promoted cult of personality in his society. The cult of personality is when individuals respect diversity whether it is religious, class, race, gender, or ability. He encourages people to recognize that we all come from different backgrounds and have different ideas of norms based on our society. Durkheim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weber believed that capitalism stemmed from the religious ideas of Protestant, Lutheran and Calvinist. In the protestant church if you are wealthy god blessed you with wealth and you are going to heaven and if you are poor god did not bless you and you are probably going to hell. In Lutheranism ones has a calling. You have a mission in life that God wants you to complete. In Calvinist you can understand your mission in life by how much wealth you have. So if you are making a lot of money you are completing your calling and God is rewarding you. Weber thinks everything is being secularized so just take god out of the equations and you have Capitalism. He thinks the best we can do is Capitalism, and while not an ardent supporter, also acknowledges that anything else would be worse. Weber does not believe that society has any laws. There is one trend in society and it is towards rationalization (every greater things getting done for the benefit of productivity). Weber ardors the idea of society being bureaucratized, working together for the best strategy. However, he also acknowledges that socialism may be more efficient, but it impedes one's creativity and mind. Therefore, "Bureaucracy is the means of carrying 'community action' over into rationally ordered 'societal action'" (Economy and Society, pgs. 229–30). By having a bureaucratic society means ... Centrally planned economies tend to not have a problem with unemployment, and market economies do because market economies can't predict supply and demand unlike how centrally planned economies know how much to produce in order to keep up with the need of the market. Market economies are able to keep up with shifts in demand, where centrally planned economies are unable to do so since they need permission from the single person or group that is in charge of decisions before making any changes to their output, which also makes them more efficient. A couple other differences are that centrally planned economies have compensation that is morally based, and the assets tend to be state owned, where a market economy's compensation is usually material goods and the assets are privately owned. 6. What are the key differences between macroeconomics and microeconomics? The key differences between macroeconomics and microeconomics are: Macroeconomics analyzes the overall economy and the issues affecting it such a growth, inflation and unemployment, where microeconomics only studies how those issues affect individual markets and how they make decisions about allocating scarce resources.
