What does “Islam” mean?
The word الإسلام [Islam] is an infinitive word derived from س ل م [silm] root in if‘al pattern and used as noun and infinitive. The word silm means “release/keeping away; and to be distant from fear, doubt, trouble, lack of peace, unhappiness, fight, war, pain, suffering, material and spiritual inconveniences, weakness and decaying, and all the negativities.” This word is also the root of salim, selam, teslim, Islam etc. The word’s “Islam” form means “strengthening” [removal from problems, worries, fear, unhappiness, fights, wars, and similar negative things]. Hence, the religion Islam means the “the religion that strengthens humans [entire range of principles that protects and secures people by putting a distance between them and problems, worries, war, weakness, spiritual illness, unhappiness, and similar things].”

SURAH AL-HADID (THE IRON/STRONG VISION)

1That which is in the Heavens and on the Earth exonerate Allah from all
deficiencies. And He is the Most Exalted, the Almighty, the Most Honorable, the
Invincible/the Subduer, the Best Law-Maker, the One Who precludes corruption
best/makes incorruptible.
2Dominion of the Heavens and the Earth belongs only to Him. He gives life
and takes life. He is All Competent.
3He is the First and the Last, the Evident, the Hidden and He is the Most
Knowing.
4He is the One Who created the Heavens and the Earth in six stages and
established dominion on the Greatest Throne, the One Who knows that which enters
the Earth and that which exits the Earth, that which descends from the Heavens and
that which ascends to the Heavens. And wherever you are, He is with you. And Allah
is the Most Seeing of what you do.
5Dominion of the Heavens and the Earth belongs only to Him. And all matters
are returned to Allah only.
6He merges the night into the day and He merges the day into the night. He is
the Most Knowing of the essence of hearts.

7Believe in Allah and His Messenger. Spend that which He made you possess
for the cause of Allah/to provide sustenance for your relatives first and then others.
And as for whoever from among you believes and spends; there will be a great
recompense for them.
8What is the matter with you that you disbelieve Allah although you have been
invited by the Messenger to believe in your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer]? Then, He took a ‘solemn covenant’ from you to believe –if you are
the believers-.

9Allah is the One Who has revealed to His servant manifest Ayat so he may
lead you out of darkness and into the light. And surely, Allah is the Most
Compassionate, the Most Merciful over you.
(94/57; Al-Hadid/7-9)

10Why do you not spend in the path of Allah although Allah is the Final Owner
of the Heavens and the Earth? Not equal are those from among you who spent before
the conquest and those who fought. They are more exalted in ranks than those who
spent and fought in the path of Allah afterwards. Yet, Allah has promised all of them
the “most beautiful”. And Allah is aware of what you do.
11Who is the one to loan Allah a good loan so He may increase his reward
many times! And a noble reward will be for him as well.

12On that day, you will see the believing men and the believing women running
with their lights in their hands and on their right. –On that day, the good tidings for
you are the gardens of Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] underneath of which rivers flow
and in which you shall abide eternally. This is the great salvation itself!-
13On that day, the infidel men and the infidel women shall say to the believers:
“Look at us so we may acquire from your light!”. It will be said: “Turn behind and
seek for the light!”. Then, a gated wall, which contains mercy within and torment
outside, will be set between them.
14,15They will call to them: “Were we not with you?”. The believers will say:
“Yes but you threw your lives into the fire, observed, doubted and your delusions
deceived you. And then command of Allah came. And that Deceiver deceived you
with Allah. On this day no compensation will be accepted from you or the infidels;
those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. And your final destination will be the fire.
It is that which you deserve. How an evil destination it is!”.

16Has the time not come for the believers that their hearts should remember
Allah and that which has come from the Truth in awe so they are not like those who
have been given the Scripture but their hearts have hardened because of the long time
passed since. Most of them have gone astray from the righteous path.
17Know that Allah revives the Earth after its demise. We have made the Ayat
clear for you so you may reason.
18Surely, as for the men who give charity and the women who give charity and
those who loan Allah a good loan; their reward will be multiplied many times. And
there will be for them a noble reward.
19Those who believe in Allah and His Messenger; they are the righteous ones
and martyrs in the eye of their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]. They will have their recompense and light. And those who deny and
reject Our Ayat; they are the Companions of Jahannah [Hell].
20Know that the simple worldly life is nothing but a game, a passionate
distraction, an adornment, a mutual boasting among you, a race among you to
multiply in wealth and children. –Like the example of a rain; farmers are like crops
the rain causes to grow, then the crops wither and then you see them fade into yellow
and become a debris.- And in Akhirat [Afterlife], there will be a severe punishment;
forgiveness from Allah and appreciation. And the simple worldly life is nothing but a
material of deception.
21Haste for Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] that has been prepared for those who
believe in Allah and His messengers and for the forgiveness of your Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]; and width of which is as the width of the
Heavens and the Earth. This is the gift of Allah which He bestows upon whomever
He pleases. He bestows it upon whomever He pleases. And Allah is the Possessor of
a great bounty.
22-24Disasters which hit on the Earth and among themselves are recorded in a
scripture before We make it happen, so you do not grieve over what you have lost
and exult over that which Allah has given upon you-. Surely, it is easy for Allah. And
Allah does not like the stingy and those who instruct stinginess to people, the self-
deluded and boastful. And whoever turns away, knows that Allah is rich, free of
needs, the Praised One and the Praiseworthy.

25Surely, We sent our messengers with manifest evidence and We sent down
along with them the Scripture and the Balance so people may maintain the Truth and

Allah may determine/mark and show those who help His religion and messenger
where no-one can see them and know them. And We sent down the iron which
possesses a great power and many benefits for the mankind. Surely, Allah is the
Omnipotent, the Most Exalted.
26And surely, We sent Noah and Abraham as messengers and We maintained
upon their descendants the prophethood and the Scripture. Then, some of them found
the righteous path but most of them were transgressors.
27Then We kept sending Our messengers after them. And We sent Jesus, son of
Mary, after them; We bestowed upon him the Bible and put compassion and mercy
in the hearts of those who followed them. And as for the clergy that they invented;
We did not instruct them thereof. They invented it just to obtain the approval of
Allah. But then they did not observe it as they should. Then We recompensed those
among them who believed. But most of them were transgressors.

28,29O you who have believed! Surrender under the guardianship of Allah and
believe in His Messenger so Allah may bestow upon you two shares from His mercy,
create a light under which you will walk and forgive you –for the Companions of the
Scripture to know that they cannot obtain anything from the blessings of Allah and
the blessings are surely in the hands of Allah and He bestows them upon whomever
He pleases-. Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. And Allah is the
Possessor of the great reward.
(94/57; Al-Hadid/28-29)
