SURAH YUNUS (JONAH)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 170
1Alif/1, Lam/30, Ra/200.197 These are the Ayat of that Scripture which contains
laws.
2Is it strange for Us to reveal Our wahy to a wise man from among them,
saying: “Warn the people and give those who believe the good tidings that they shall
surely be welcome and will have a happy life [qadama sidq]198 with their Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]”? Infidels; those who consciously
deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] said: “Surely this Messenger/this Scripture is a scholar who
is possessed/contains fascinating knowledge of sorcery”.
(51/10; Yunus/1-2)
Division: 171
3Surely, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is
Allah, Who created the Heavens and the Earth in six steps and established His
dominion over the greatest Throne,199 the One Who rules over all things. Whoever
helps and supports on this world may only do after His permission/under His
knowledge thereof. This is Allah, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer]. Then, worship Him! Do you not still think and take lesson?
4All of you will return to Him only. It is the true promise of Allah. Surely, He
creates the people from the beginning then returns those believers who do righteous
deeds to be rewarded for their deeds and get their right in His blessings. Those
infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]; a drink of boiling water
and a severe punishment will be for their blasphemy; their conscious denial of the
Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer].
5He is the One Who made the Sun glow and the Moon a light and set the Moon
in phases so that you may count and calculate years. Allah made this happen with
truth. He expounds the Ayat for a people who will know.
2
6Surely, evidence of the manifestation of Allah are the sequential revolution of
the day and the night and all that Allah created in the Heavens on the Earth for a
people who surrender themselves under the guardianship of Allah.
(51/10; Yunus/3-6)
Division: 172
7,8Those who do not expect to meet Us, settle for and satisfied with the worldly
life, and those who are apathetic to Our Ayat/evidence/signs; they are the ones who
will arrive into the blazing fire of Jahannah [Hell] for what they do with their own
hands.
9No doubt that those who believe and do corrective deeds; their Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] guides them for their faith. In their
Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] that has blessings in abundance, rivers flow beneath them.
10Their prayers there will be as follows: “O my Allah! Exonerated are You
from all deficiencies!”. And their salutation there will be as follows: “Salam [health,
peace, happiness]!”. And they shall conclude their prayers as follows: “All praise be
upon Allah, Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all
universes!”.
(51/10; Yunus/7-10)
Division: 173
11And had Allah hasted to give evil to the people as they hasted to receive what
they deserved, He would certainly have ended their time. But, We abandon those
who do not expect to meet Us struggling in their transgression.
12And when troubles hit people, they indeed beg help from Us while laying,
sitting or standing. And when We remove their troubles, they turn away and go as if
they had never begged help from Us when trouble hit them. Adorned is what they do
to transgressor.
13And surely, We manipulated/destroyed many generations before you for they
did wrong by associating others with Allah and cursing. And their messengers came
to them with explicit evidence. They would not believe anyway. Thus We punish
those sinners.
14The We made you successors to them to observe how you will do.
3
15And when Our Ayat are recited to them clearly, those who do not expect to
meet Us said: “Bring another Qur’an or manipulate this!”. Say: “I cannot manipulate
it by myself, it is impossible. I only follow what is revealed to me. I truly fear, if I
rebel against my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] I will be
punished of a great day”.
16Say: “Had Allah wished so, I would not have recited the Qur’an to you and
Allah would not have revealed the Qur’an to you. I had been among you for a
lifetime before the Qur’an. Will you not still use your understanding?”.
17Then, who else can be more wrong/act against his own good than those who
lie against the Ayat of Allah or deny His Ayat/evidence/signs? Surely, those sinners
will not reach the salvation.
18They worship those things from among the subordinates of Allah which
cannot harm or benefit them and say: “These are our helpers/supporters in the
presence of Allah”. Say: “Do you inform Allah of something He does not know in
the Heavens and on the Earth?”. Exonerated and exalted is Allah from all those
things they associate with Allah.
19And mankind was a single community, then conflict emerged among them
and if not for a Word200 conveyed by Allah, the judgment would be concluded
among them about what they had been conflicting.
20And they say: “Why is evidence/a sign not sent down from his Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]?”. Say: “Only Allah knows about
the unseen, the unheard and the unfelt, the past and the future. Now wait! Surely, I
wait with you as well!”.
21And when We have mercy upon the people after a trouble hits them, they
ploy against Our evidence/signs. Say: “Allah is faster in plotting”. Surely, our
messengers continuously write what We plot.
(51/10; Yunus/11-21)
Division: 174
22Allah is the One Who allows you to travel on the land and at the sea. When
you are aboard on your vessels, He moves your vessels along with those who are
aboard with a sweet breeze. And when the passengers rejoice, there comes a storm
causing waves to hit from all around. And when they realize that they are
surrounded, they cry unto Allah as the believers who glorify the religion for Allah:
“If You save us from this calamity, surely we will pay it back”.
4
23And when We save them from the calamity, they transgress insolently on the
earth. – O mankind! Your transgression that is a gain of this worldly life is against
your own good. You will only return to Us. We will inform you about what you have
done. –
(51/10; Yunus/22-23)
Division: 175
24An example of this worldly life is the water We pour from the Heavens.
Then, intermingled with the water We send down from the Heavens are the plants on
which man and beasts feed. And when earth adorns itself with its ornaments and its
owners think they have possession over it, sometimes in the night and sometimes by
the day, Our command is revealed to it and harvested it is as if no celebration was
there yesterday. Thus We expound Our Ayat for a people who have understanding.
25And Allah invites to the land of salamat [peace, safety, happiness] then He
guides whomever He pleases/whoever so pleases.
26For those who have done good, there will be better and more. No stain will
spoil their faces nor humiliation nor scorn. They are the Companions of Jannah
[Heaven/Paradise]. They shall be there eternally. 27And those who have earned evil,
an evil punishment equal to their evil deeds will be for them. And humiliation will
encompass them. No help will come to them from Allah. Their faces will be like a
part of a dark night. They are the Companions of the Fire. They shall be there
eternally.
28,29And on the day during which We will gather all of them and say to those
who associated Us with others Go to your positions! You and your partners!”, We
will surely separate them and their partners will say: “You have not only been
worshipping us! Now, sufficient is Allah between you and us as witness. We were
unaware of/apathetic to your servitude towards us”.
30There/then everyone will be tested for what they did. And they surely will be
returned to their God, Allah. Those deities they fabricated will vanish.
31,32Say: “Who bestows you blessings from the Heavens and the Earth? Or who
possesses your ears and eyes; who owns these? Who resurrects the dead and kills the
living? And who governs all matters?” They shall immediately say: “Allah”. Then
say: “Then will you not surrender yourselves under the guardianship of Allah? Then
He is Allah, your true Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].
And what else but perversion is beyond the truth Then how are you led astray?
5
33Word of Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]201 has
been fulfilled for those who went astray from the righteous path: Surely, they shall
not believe.
34Say: “Which of your partners is capable of creating first and then
returning/resurrecting?” Say: “Allah creates first and then returns. Then how are you
led astray?”
35Say: “Which of your partners is capable of guiding to the righteous path?”.
Say: “Allah guides to the truth, the righteous path. Then who guides to the righteous
path? Then, who is worthy of being followed; the One Who guides to the righteous
path or those who are not able to find the righteous path unless being guided? Then
what is the matter with you? How do you judge?”.
36And most of them follow nothing but an assumption. No doubt that
assumptions can be no avail against the “truth”. Surely, Allah knows the best what
they do.
(51/10; Yunus/24-36)
Division: 176
37And the Qur’an is not fabricated by those who are inferior of Allah. Then, it
is only a verification of what is contained within and an explanation in detail of what
is mentioned in the Torah. Nothing in it can be doubted about. It is sent down by
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all universes.
38Or they say: “He has fabricated it”. Say: “Then create a similar Surah, gather
any of the subordinates of Allah. If you are righteous”.
39Quite contrary, they denied something they are not capable of understanding
and is has yet to be revealed to them. Thus denied those before them. Look how was
the end of those who did wrong by associating others with Allah; who acted against
their own good.
40Among them are those who would believe the Qur’an and who would not.
And your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] knows the best
those who make mischief.
41And if they deny you say immediately: “My deeds belong to me and your
deeds belong to you. You are away from what I do and I am away from what you
do”.
42And some of them heed to you. But can you make the deaf hear even though
they do not use their reason?
6
43Among them are some who look at you. But can you guide the blind even
though they cannot see?
44Surely, Allah does not treat people unjustly by any means. Yet people do
wrong to themselves; they act against their own good.
45And on the day on which Allah will gather them, people will meet with each
other, as if they stay for an hour by the day. Since those who deny that they shall
meet Allah do not follow the righteous path, they are doomed to destruction.
46Whether We show a part of what We have promised them or make you dead;
remind you the thing you did in the past or you omitted to do when you had to, they
shall ultimately be returner to Us. Then Allah will witness what they shall do.
47And there will be a messenger for any people with a leader. When their
messenger arrives, justice is established among them. And they shall not be treated
with injustice.
48And they say: “If you are the righteous ones, when will this promise
happen?”.
49Say: “I am not able to make a harm or benefit other than what Allah wills”.
There is a deadline for each people with a leader. When their time is up, they cannot
postpone or accelerate.
50Say: “Have you ever thought about it? Should His wrath come upon you by
the night when you are asleep or by the day!” Why should those sinners hasten about
it?
51Will you believe after the punishment hits you or now? Then, you have been
impatient about it.
52Then those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; those who act
against their own good will be told: “Taste the wrath of eternity!”. – Will you be
punished for the things other than you have earned?”-
53And they ask you, “That wrath is true?”. Say: “Yes, I swear by my Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], it is the truth. And you are not
capable of making fail”.
54And those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; those who act
against their own good would have sacrificed/forsaken everything on the earth if they
possessed them to be spared. And they would repent when they saw the wrath. And
justice will certainly be established among them. And they shall not be treated
unjustly.
7
(51/10; Yunus/37-54)
Division: 177
55Be informed! Surely, everything in the Heavens and on the Earth is for Allah.
Be informed! Surely, promise of Allah is true. But most of them do not know.
56Allah gives life and kills. And you will only be returned to Him.
(51/10; Yunus/55-56)
Division: 178
57O Mankind! An admonition, a cure for what is within their chests, a guidance
and a mercy has come from your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer].
58Say: “These are done by the blessing and mercy of Allah. Let them rejoice
over these only. This is better than what they continuously gather”.
59Say: “Have you seen/thought? How has Allah sent down His blessings in
abundance and you made some of them haram [forbidden] and some halal
[permitted]”. Say: “Did Allah give His permission or you lie in the name of Allah?”.
60And what is the opinion of those who lie and slander against Allah on the
Day of Qiyamat [Resurrection]? Surely, Allah is the Most Beneficent but most of
them are not grateful.
61And whatever occupation you perform, whatever you recite in the Qur’an
about it and whatever is your occupation is, do not forget that We witness over you
when you are busy performing it. Not concealed from your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is anything in the Heaven and on the Earth
that weight as an atom. And anything smaller and larger that is contained within a
clear scripture.
(51/10; Yunus/57-61)
Division: 179
62,63Open your eyes! No fear is for those who close to Allah or His helpers –
those who believe and surrender themselves under the guardianship of Allah-. They
shall not grieve.
64Good tidings are for them in this worldly life and in Akhirat [Afterlife] alike.
There is no change in the Words of Allah. This is the greatest salvation.
8
65And do not let what they say grieve you. Surely, dominion, glory and honor
belong to Allah. He is the One Who hears the best and knows the best.
66Open your eyes! Those who are in the Heavens and on the Earth; all belong
to Allah. And those who demand favor from the subordinates of Allah do not follow
their partners. They only follow assumptions and they only lie.
67Allah is the One Who created the night for you to rest and the day for you to
see. Surely, it is evidence/a sign for a people who would heed.
(51/10; Yunus/62-67)
Division: 180
68They say: “Allah begets a child”. He is exonerated from this. He is rich/does
not need anything. All that is in the Heavens and on the Earth belong to Him. You do
not have evidence thereof. Do you say about Allah things you cannot possibly know?
69Say: “Those who lie about Allah will not be able to escape”.
70Those things are the earnings of the world. They shall be returned only to Us.
Then We will make them taste that severe punishment for they cursed; for what they
consciously denied and refused to accept.
(51/10; Yunus/68-70)
Division: 181
71,72And recite them about the story of Noah: When he said to his people: “O
my people! If you are offended by my position; my duty, and that I stand against you
and preach with the admonition of Allah, be aware that I rely upon Allah for the
conclusion. Now, gather around, you and your partners, and decide what you will
do. Then do not let your deed be trouble for you. Then perform it upon me and do not
give me respite. Then, if you turn away; I have not demanded a fee from you anyway!
My reward is by Allah only. And I have been commanded to be one of Muslims”.
73They denied him despite this. Then We saved him and those who were
aboard with him on his ship. And We made them successors of those who vanished.
And We drowned those who denied our Ayat [evidence/signs]. Look how was the
end of those who were warned.
74Then after him, We sent messengers to their own people, and they brought
them explicit evidence. But they did not believe as they had denied him before. Thus
We seal/brand the hearts of the transgressors.
9
***
75Then We sent to the Pharaoh and his chiefs Moses and Aaron after them with
Our Ayat/evidence/signs. But they treated them with arrogance and became a sinner
people.
76And when the truth was sent down upon them by Us, they said: It is clearly
sorcery”.
77Moses said: “Do you say ‘this is words of incantation’ when the truth comes
to you? Then, those who utter words of sorcery cannot reach what they hope for”.
78They said: “Have you come to us to lead us astray from what we inherited
from our ancestors and that you two may dominate the earth? We will not believe
both of you”.
79And the Pharaoh said: “Gather all scholars who are capable of uttering words
of knowledge!”.
80And when those wise scholars came Moses said to them: “Throw what you
have!”.
81,82And when they threw what they had Moses said to them: “What you have
is nothing but an illusion/deception. Surely, Allah will disclose that it is fake and
useless. No doubt that Allah does not correct the works of mischief-makers. And
Allah expresses the truth with His own words and implements it even though sinners
do not like it”.
83Then no other people but Moses’ people believed him lest the Pharaoh and
his men would throw them into the fire. And surely, the Pharaoh was exalted in
power on the earth and he certainly was one of those transgressors.
84And Moses said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah and have
surrendered to Him thus becoming Muslims, then rely only unto Him!”.
85,86And they said: “We have relied unto Allah. O our Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Throw us not into the fire for those who do
wrong by associating You with others; who act against their own good and save us
with Your mercy from those infidels; those people who consciously deny the
Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer]!”.
87And We revealed to Moses and his brother; “Establish schools in Egypt for
your people and make your schools qiblah/target and perform Salat [spiritual and
10
financial support; establishment and maintenance of institutions that enlighten the
community] and give those believers the good tidings!”.
88And Moses said: “O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! Surely, You have given the Pharaoh and his men wealth and properties in
this worldly life. – O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! So they could lead people stray from Your path – O our Rabb [the Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Destroy their wealth and trouble their
hearts. For they shall not believe unless they see the severe punishment”.
89Allah said: “Your prayers have certainly been accepted. Then, follow the
righteous path. And do not follow the paths of those who do not know!”.
90-92And We took the Israelites across the large body of water/river. But the
Pharaoh and his soldiers followed them immediately in transgression and enmity.
And when drowning seized him he said: “I have surely believed that there exists no
other deity but the One Whom Israelites believe, I have become one of those who
surrendered”. – Just now? But you denied before and became of those mischief-
makers. Today We will save you in your armor so you may be a sign for those who
succeed you. – And surely, many of those people are apathetic/heedless to our
Ayat/evidence/signs.
93And surely, We placed Israelites in a beautiful land and bestowed them Our
blessings so they did not conflict until the knowledge came to them. Surely, your
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will establish justice
among them on the Day of Qiyamat [the Day of Resurrection] [the Resurrection]
about what they conflict.
(51/10; Yunus/71-93)
Division: 182
94,95If you do not have manifest, sufficient knowledge about what We have
revealed to you, then immediately ask those who recited and taught the Scriptures
before you! Surely, truth is what has been revealed by your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Then never be one of those who doubt! Never
be one of those who deny the Ayat of Allah or you will become one of those losers
who suffer.
(51/10; Yunus/94-95)
Division: 183
11
96,97Surely, those, against whom the Word of your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]202 has become the truth, will not believe even
if all the evidence/signs come to them altogether unless they see the severe wrath.
98If only there was a city people of which believed and benefited from their
faith. But the people of Jonah are different. When they had believed We removed the
disgraceful punishment of this worldly life from upon them and let them enjoy for a
while.
99Had your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] wished
so, all the people living on the Earth would have believed. Will you compel them to
become believers?
100Without the permission/knowledge of Allah, no one can believe. And Allah
will place filth/wrath upon those who do not use their reason.
101Say: “Look what is in the Heavens and on the Earth!” – Then explicit
Ayat/evidence/signs would not avail/what benefit will Ayat/evidence/signs bring upon
a people who resist to believe? –
102Do they expect the same days which were suffered by those before them?
Say: “Wait! I am among those who wait”.
103Then We save Our messengers and those who believe. Thus it is! Saving
believers is Our duty.
104-106Say: “O mankind! If you do not exactly know what my religion is, be
sure that I do not worship those things you worship, which are inferior to Allah. But
I worship Allah, the One Who will take your life. And I have been commanded to be
among those believers and that “Turn all your being towards the religion being a soul
who turns to the Truth and never be among those who associate Allah with others!
And Do not pray to those subordinates of Allah who are not capable of benefiting or
harming you! If you do despite all these, you will surely be among those who do
wrong by associating others with Allah; who act against their own good’”.
107Should Allah touch you with harm, no one but He can remove it. And should
He wish good for you, no one can reverse what He gives you. He bestows His
blessings to any of His servants as He pleases. And Allah is the Most Judging, the
Most Merciful.
108Say: “O mankind! Indeed the truth has come from your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Whoever follows the righteous path does it
for himself and whoever goes astray from it does it for himself. And I am not to
make you stand; I am not responsible for you”.
12
109And follow what has been revealed to you! And have patience until Allah
will judge. And Allah is the best of judges.
(51/10; Yunus/69-109)
197 See Footnote No. 8
198 The phrase of Qadama sidq, which comprises two separate terms, qadama [foot] and
sidq [truth] means “the foot of truth” and therefore expresses that “the reward of good deeds of people
would be good and auspicious”. This phrase is used in the Ayah to express that “believers will b e
recompensed fully or even exceedingly for what they do in their worldly lives”.
199 See Footnotes No. 37 and 52
200 THE WORD CONVEYED BY OUR RABB [THE LORD, THE NURTURER, THE
CHERISHER, THE SUSTAINER]: The word mentioned in the Ayah is the principle of our Rabb [the
Lord, the Nurturer, the Cherisher, the Sustainer] to “postpone His punishments for a predetermined
period”. Allah the Glorious mentions about this principle and states that He will not amend this
principle in the Official Mushaf: Surat Ash-Shuraa/14, Hud/110, Fatir/45, Fussilat/45 and Ta-Ha/129.

Exonerated and exalted is Allah from all those things they associate with Allah. 19And mankind was a single community, then conflict emerged among them and if not for a Word200 conveyed by Allah, the judgment would be concluded among them about what they had been conflicting. 20And they say: “Why is evidence/a sign not sent down from his Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]?”. Say: “Only Allah knows about the unseen, the unheard and the unfelt, the past and the future. Now wait! Surely, I wait with you as well!”. 21And when We have mercy upon the people after a trouble hits them, they ploy against Our evidence/signs. Say: “Allah is faster in plotting”. Surely, our messengers continuously write what We plot. (51/10; Yunus/11-21) Division: 174 22Allah is the One Who allows you to travel on the land and at the sea. When you are aboard on your vessels, He moves your vessels along with those who are aboard with a sweet breeze. And when the passengers rejoice, there comes a storm causing waves to hit from all around. And when they realize that they are surrounded, they cry unto Allah as the believers who glorify the religion for Allah: “If You save us from this calamity, surely we will pay it back”.

4 23And when Wesave them from the calamity, they transgress insolently on the earth. – O mankind! Your transgression that is a gain of this worldly life is against your own good. You will only return to Us. We will inform you about what you have done. – (51/10; Yunus/22-23) Division: 175 24An example of this worldly life is the water We pour from the Heavens. Then, intermingled with the water We send down from the Heavens are the plants on which man and beasts feed. And when earth adorns itself with its ornaments and its owners think they have possession over it, sometimes in the night and sometimes by the day, Our command is revealed to it and harvested it is as if no celebration was there yesterday. Thus We expound Our Ayat for a people who have understanding. 25And Allah invites to the land of salamat [peace, safety, happiness] then He guides whomever He pleases/whoever so pleases. 26For those who have done good, there will be better and more. No stain will spoil their faces nor humiliation nor scorn. They are the Companions of Jannah [Heaven/Paradise]. They shall be there eternally. 27And those who have earned evil, an evil punishment equal to their evil deeds will be for them. And humiliation will encompass them. No help will come to them from Allah. Their faces will be like a part of a dark night. They are the Companions of the Fire. They shall be there eternally. 28,29And on the day during which We will gather all of them and say to those who associated Us with others Go to your positions! You and your partners!”, We will surely separate them and their partners will say: “You have not only been worshipping us! Now, sufficient is Allah between you and us as witness. We were unaware of/apathetic to your servitude towards us”. 30There/then everyone will be tested for what they did. And they surely will be returned to their God, Allah. Those deities they fabricated will vanish. 31,32Say: “Who bestows you blessings from the Heavens and the Earth? Or who possesses your ears and eyes; who owns these? Who resurrects the dead and kills the living? And who governs all matters?” They shall immediately say: “Allah”. Then say: “Then will you not surrender yourselves under the guardianship of Allah? Then He is Allah, your true Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. And what else but perversion is beyond the truth Then how are you led astray?
  • 5.
5 33Word of Rabb[the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]201 has been fulfilled for those who went astray from the righteous path: Surely, they shall not believe. 34Say: “Which of your partners is capable of creating first and then returning/resurrecting?” Say: “Allah creates first and then returns. Then how are you led astray?” 35Say: “Which of your partners is capable of guiding to the righteous path?”. Say: “Allah guides to the truth, the righteous path. Then who guides to the righteous path? Then, who is worthy of being followed; the One Who guides to the righteous path or those who are not able to find the righteous path unless being guided? Then what is the matter with you? How do you judge?”. 36And most of them follow nothing but an assumption. No doubt that assumptions can be no avail against the “truth”. Surely, Allah knows the best what they do. (51/10; Yunus/24-36) Division: 176 37And the Qur’an is not fabricated by those who are inferior of Allah. Then, it is only a verification of what is contained within and an explanation in detail of what is mentioned in the Torah. Nothing in it can be doubted about. It is sent down by Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all universes. 38Or they say: “He has fabricated it”. Say: “Then create a similar Surah, gather any of the subordinates of Allah. If you are righteous”. 39Quite contrary, they denied something they are not capable of understanding and is has yet to be revealed to them. Thus denied those before them. Look how was the end of those who did wrong by associating others with Allah; who acted against their own good. 40Among them are those who would believe the Qur’an and who would not. And your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] knows the best those who make mischief. 41And if they deny you say immediately: “My deeds belong to me and your deeds belong to you. You are away from what I do and I am away from what you do”. 42And some of them heed to you. But can you make the deaf hear even though they do not use their reason?
  • 6.
6 43Among them aresome who look at you. But can you guide the blind even though they cannot see? 44Surely, Allah does not treat people unjustly by any means. Yet people do wrong to themselves; they act against their own good. 45And on the day on which Allah will gather them, people will meet with each other, as if they stay for an hour by the day. Since those who deny that they shall meet Allah do not follow the righteous path, they are doomed to destruction. 46Whether We show a part of what We have promised them or make you dead; remind you the thing you did in the past or you omitted to do when you had to, they shall ultimately be returner to Us. Then Allah will witness what they shall do. 47And there will be a messenger for any people with a leader. When their messenger arrives, justice is established among them. And they shall not be treated with injustice. 48And they say: “If you are the righteous ones, when will this promise happen?”. 49Say: “I am not able to make a harm or benefit other than what Allah wills”. There is a deadline for each people with a leader. When their time is up, they cannot postpone or accelerate. 50Say: “Have you ever thought about it? Should His wrath come upon you by the night when you are asleep or by the day!” Why should those sinners hasten about it? 51Will you believe after the punishment hits you or now? Then, you have been impatient about it. 52Then those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; those who act against their own good will be told: “Taste the wrath of eternity!”. – Will you be punished for the things other than you have earned?”- 53And they ask you, “That wrath is true?”. Say: “Yes, I swear by my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], it is the truth. And you are not capable of making fail”. 54And those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; those who act against their own good would have sacrificed/forsaken everything on the earth if they possessed them to be spared. And they would repent when they saw the wrath. And justice will certainly be established among them. And they shall not be treated unjustly.

7 (51/10; Yunus/37-54) Division: 177 55Beinformed! Surely, everything in the Heavens and on the Earth is for Allah. Be informed! Surely, promise of Allah is true. But most of them do not know. 56Allah gives life and kills. And you will only be returned to Him. (51/10; Yunus/55-56) Division: 178 57O Mankind! An admonition, a cure for what is within their chests, a guidance and a mercy has come from your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. 58Say: “These are done by the blessing and mercy of Allah. Let them rejoice over these only. This is better than what they continuously gather”. 59Say: “Have you seen/thought? How has Allah sent down His blessings in abundance and you made some of them haram [forbidden] and some halal [permitted]”. Say: “Did Allah give His permission or you lie in the name of Allah?”. 60And what is the opinion of those who lie and slander against Allah on the Day of Qiyamat [Resurrection]? Surely, Allah is the Most Beneficent but most of them are not grateful. 61And whatever occupation you perform, whatever you recite in the Qur’an about it and whatever is your occupation is, do not forget that We witness over you when you are busy performing it. Not concealed from your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is anything in the Heaven and on the Earth that weight as an atom. And anything smaller and larger that is contained within a clear scripture. (51/10; Yunus/57-61) Division: 179 62,63Open your eyes! No fear is for those who close to Allah or His helpers – those who believe and surrender themselves under the guardianship of Allah-. They shall not grieve. 64Good tidings are for them in this worldly life and in Akhirat [Afterlife] alike. There is no change in the Words of Allah. This is the greatest salvation.
  • 8.
8 65And do notlet what they say grieve you. Surely, dominion, glory and honor belong to Allah. He is the One Who hears the best and knows the best. 66Open your eyes! Those who are in the Heavens and on the Earth; all belong to Allah. And those who demand favor from the subordinates of Allah do not follow their partners. They only follow assumptions and they only lie. 67Allah is the One Who created the night for you to rest and the day for you to see. Surely, it is evidence/a sign for a people who would heed. (51/10; Yunus/62-67) Division: 180 68They say: “Allah begets a child”. He is exonerated from this. He is rich/does not need anything. All that is in the Heavens and on the Earth belong to Him. You do not have evidence thereof. Do you say about Allah things you cannot possibly know? 69Say: “Those who lie about Allah will not be able to escape”. 70Those things are the earnings of the world. They shall be returned only to Us. Then We will make them taste that severe punishment for they cursed; for what they consciously denied and refused to accept. (51/10; Yunus/68-70) Division: 181 71,72And recite them about the story of Noah: When he said to his people: “O my people! If you are offended by my position; my duty, and that I stand against you and preach with the admonition of Allah, be aware that I rely upon Allah for the conclusion. Now, gather around, you and your partners, and decide what you will do. Then do not let your deed be trouble for you. Then perform it upon me and do not give me respite. Then, if you turn away; I have not demanded a fee from you anyway! My reward is by Allah only. And I have been commanded to be one of Muslims”. 73They denied him despite this. Then We saved him and those who were aboard with him on his ship. And We made them successors of those who vanished. And We drowned those who denied our Ayat [evidence/signs]. Look how was the end of those who were warned. 74Then after him, We sent messengers to their own people, and they brought them explicit evidence. But they did not believe as they had denied him before. Thus We seal/brand the hearts of the transgressors.

9 *** 75Then We sentto the Pharaoh and his chiefs Moses and Aaron after them with Our Ayat/evidence/signs. But they treated them with arrogance and became a sinner people. 76And when the truth was sent down upon them by Us, they said: It is clearly sorcery”. 77Moses said: “Do you say ‘this is words of incantation’ when the truth comes to you? Then, those who utter words of sorcery cannot reach what they hope for”. 78They said: “Have you come to us to lead us astray from what we inherited from our ancestors and that you two may dominate the earth? We will not believe both of you”. 79And the Pharaoh said: “Gather all scholars who are capable of uttering words of knowledge!”. 80And when those wise scholars came Moses said to them: “Throw what you have!”. 81,82And when they threw what they had Moses said to them: “What you have is nothing but an illusion/deception. Surely, Allah will disclose that it is fake and useless. No doubt that Allah does not correct the works of mischief-makers. And Allah expresses the truth with His own words and implements it even though sinners do not like it”. 83Then no other people but Moses’ people believed him lest the Pharaoh and his men would throw them into the fire. And surely, the Pharaoh was exalted in power on the earth and he certainly was one of those transgressors. 84And Moses said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah and have surrendered to Him thus becoming Muslims, then rely only unto Him!”. 85,86And they said: “We have relied unto Allah. O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Throw us not into the fire for those who do wrong by associating You with others; who act against their own good and save us with Your mercy from those infidels; those people who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]!”. 87And We revealed to Moses and his brother; “Establish schools in Egypt for your people and make your schools qiblah/target and perform Salat [spiritual and

10 financial support; establishmentand maintenance of institutions that enlighten the community] and give those believers the good tidings!”. 88And Moses said: “O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Surely, You have given the Pharaoh and his men wealth and properties in this worldly life. – O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! So they could lead people stray from Your path – O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Destroy their wealth and trouble their hearts. For they shall not believe unless they see the severe punishment”. 89Allah said: “Your prayers have certainly been accepted. Then, follow the righteous path. And do not follow the paths of those who do not know!”. 90-92And We took the Israelites across the large body of water/river. But the Pharaoh and his soldiers followed them immediately in transgression and enmity. And when drowning seized him he said: “I have surely believed that there exists no other deity but the One Whom Israelites believe, I have become one of those who surrendered”. – Just now? But you denied before and became of those mischief- makers. Today We will save you in your armor so you may be a sign for those who succeed you. – And surely, many of those people are apathetic/heedless to our Ayat/evidence/signs. 93And surely, We placed Israelites in a beautiful land and bestowed them Our blessings so they did not conflict until the knowledge came to them. Surely, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will establish justice among them on the Day of Qiyamat [the Day of Resurrection] [the Resurrection] about what they conflict. (51/10; Yunus/71-93) Division: 182 94,95If you do not have manifest, sufficient knowledge about what We have revealed to you, then immediately ask those who recited and taught the Scriptures before you! Surely, truth is what has been revealed by your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Then never be one of those who doubt! Never be one of those who deny the Ayat of Allah or you will become one of those losers who suffer. (51/10; Yunus/94-95) Division: 183
  • 11.
11 96,97Surely, those, againstwhom the Word of your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]202 has become the truth, will not believe even if all the evidence/signs come to them altogether unless they see the severe wrath. 98If only there was a city people of which believed and benefited from their faith. But the people of Jonah are different. When they had believed We removed the disgraceful punishment of this worldly life from upon them and let them enjoy for a while. 99Had your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] wished so, all the people living on the Earth would have believed. Will you compel them to become believers? 100Without the permission/knowledge of Allah, no one can believe. And Allah will place filth/wrath upon those who do not use their reason. 101Say: “Look what is in the Heavens and on the Earth!” – Then explicit Ayat/evidence/signs would not avail/what benefit will Ayat/evidence/signs bring upon a people who resist to believe? – 102Do they expect the same days which were suffered by those before them? Say: “Wait! I am among those who wait”. 103Then We save Our messengers and those who believe. Thus it is! Saving believers is Our duty. 104-106Say: “O mankind! If you do not exactly know what my religion is, be sure that I do not worship those things you worship, which are inferior to Allah. But I worship Allah, the One Who will take your life. And I have been commanded to be among those believers and that “Turn all your being towards the religion being a soul who turns to the Truth and never be among those who associate Allah with others! And Do not pray to those subordinates of Allah who are not capable of benefiting or harming you! If you do despite all these, you will surely be among those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; who act against their own good’”. 107Should Allah touch you with harm, no one but He can remove it. And should He wish good for you, no one can reverse what He gives you. He bestows His blessings to any of His servants as He pleases. And Allah is the Most Judging, the Most Merciful. 108Say: “O mankind! Indeed the truth has come from your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Whoever follows the righteous path does it for himself and whoever goes astray from it does it for himself. And I am not to make you stand; I am not responsible for you”.

12 109And follow whathas been revealed to you! And have patience until Allah will judge. And Allah is the best of judges. (51/10; Yunus/69-109) 197 See Footnote No. 8 198 The phrase of Qadama sidq, which comprises two separate terms, qadama [foot] and sidq [truth] means “the foot of truth” and therefore expresses that “the reward of good deeds of people would be good and auspicious”. This phrase is used in the Ayah to express that “believers will b e recompensed fully or even exceedingly for what they do in their worldly lives”. 199 See Footnotes No. 37 and 52 200 THE WORD CONVEYED BY OUR RABB [THE LORD, THE NURTURER, THE CHERISHER, THE SUSTAINER]: The word mentioned in the Ayah is the principle of our Rabb [the Lord, the Nurturer, the Cherisher, the Sustainer] to “postpone His punishments for a predetermined period”. Allah the Glorious mentions about this principle and states that He will not amend this principle in the Official Mushaf: Surat Ash-Shuraa/14, Hud/110, Fatir/45, Fussilat/45 and Ta-Ha/129. 201 See Footnotes No. 77 202 See Footnotes No. 77
