What does “Islam” mean? The word الإسلام [Islam] is an infinitive word derived from س ل م [silm] root in if‘al pattern and used as noun and infinitive. The word silm means “release/keeping away; and to be distant from fear, doubt, trouble, lack of peace, unhappiness, fight, war, pain, suffering, material and spiritual inconveniences, weakness and decaying, and all the negativities.” This word is also the root of salim, selam, teslim, Islam etc. The word’s “Islam” form means “strengthening” [removal from problems, worries, fear, unhappiness, fights, wars, and similar negative things]. Hence, the religion Islam means the “the religion that strengthens humans [entire range of principles that protects and secures people by putting a distance between them and problems, worries, war, weakness, spiritual illness, unhappiness, and similar things].”

SURAH AL-AN’AM (THE CATTLE)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 203
1All praise belong to Allah Who created the Heavens and the Earth, the Dark
and the Light; no one else may be praised. Yet, those who consciously deny the
Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer] equate certain things with their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer].
2He is the One Who created you from clay. Then He set a “deadline”. And that
predetermined deadline is with Him. Yet, you still doubt about it.
3And He is Allah, the One in the Heavens and on the Earth. He knows what
you hide in your hearts and what you disclose. He knows what you earn as well.
(55/6; Al-An’am/1-3)

4And when a Wahy of their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] was revealed to them, they surely turned away from it.
5Then they denied when the truth was revealed to them. They shall soon learn
about the news of what they have been ridiculing.
6Have they not seen that We manipulated/destroyed many generations to whom
We had given many opportunities which We have not given you, and upon whom
We rained and beneath whom We make rivers flow. We manipulated/destroyed them
for their sins and created a new generation after them.
7And had We sent down to you a Scripture that was written on papyrus/paper
and they had touched it with their hands, those infidels; those who consciously deny
the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] would surely have said: “This is nothing but sorcery”.
8And they said: “Why has an angel not been sent down to this prophet?”. Had
We sent down an angel, Our affair would have surely been settled. Then they would
have not been given respite.
9Had We made the prophet an angel, We would still have made him a man and
they would have doubted about him anyway.

10And surely, the messengers were ridiculed before you. Then those who
ridiculed them were surrounded by what they had ridiculed.
11Say: “Wander across the Earth, then behold how was the end of those who
denied!”.
12Say: “For whom are those things that are in the Heavens and on the Earth?”.
Say: “For Allah!”. He prescribed mercy upon Himself. He surely will gather you on
the Day of Qiyamat [Resurrection] about which there is no doubt. Those who harm
themselves, they do not believe.
13And what dwells in the night and in the day belongs to Him. He is the Best
Hearing, the Best Knowing.
14Say: “Should I adopt a helper, a guide, a protector other than Allah Who
created the Heavens and the Earth from nothing, the One Who nurtures but is not
nurtured?”. Say: “I have been commanded to be the first Muslim”. And be not
among those who associate others with Allah!
15Say: “Surely, if I rebel against my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] I fear the wrath of a great day”.
16Whoever is averted from associating others with Allah/rebelling against Him;
Allah will have mercy upon him. And this is the manifest salvation.
17And should Allah touch you with harm, no one but Him can release it. And
should He touch you with good, He surely is the Omnipotent.
18And He is the One Who destroys those who rebel against Him as the
subjugator over His servants. And He is the Best Law-Giver, the One Who is the
Best Preventer of corruption/Who makes incorruptible, He knows the best what is
inside of all things/what is hidden.
19Say: “What is more exalted in testimony?”. Say: “Allah is witness between
me and you. And this Qur’an has been revealed to me so I may warn you and all
those it reaches with Him. Will you testify that there are other deities along with
Allah?”. Say: “I will not”. Say: “He is the One and the Only God and I surely am
away from what you associate with Him”.
20Those to whom We have given the Scripture know the Prophet as they know
their own sons. Those who indulge to their desires, they will never have faith.
21And who else can be more wrong than those who lie against Allah or deny
His Ayat; those who act against their own good? Surely, those who do wrong by

associating others with Allah; those who act against their own good will not reach
salvation.
22And on that day We will gather all of them. Then We will say to those who
associate others with Us: “Where are your partners to whom you believe, defying the
truth”. 23Then throwing of them into the fire is nothing but them saying: “O our Rabb
[the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! We swear by Allah we were
not among those who associated others with Him”.
24Behold how they lie against themselves! That which they fabricated will
abandon them.
25And among them are those who heed you; but We covered their hearts layers
upon layers and blocked their ears lest they understand it. They shall not believe even
though they see the evidence/signs. Even those infidels; those who deny the Divinity
of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] will come to you arguing: “This is nothing but the fabricated tales of the
ancients”.
26And they forbid themselves from it and keep away. And they lead themselves
unconsciously to the destruction.
27And when they are upon the fire you will see how they shall say: “O woe to
us! If we were returned to the world so we would not have denied the Ayat of our
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and become believers!”.
28Quite contrary, disclosed is what they have been hiding. Had they been
returned, they would have been turned to that which was forbidden for them. Yes,
they are truly liars.
29And they said: “No other life for us than this temporary worldly life; then we
will not be resurrected”.
30And if only you could see them when they shall stand in the presence of their
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] ! Their Rabb [the Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will say to them: “Is it not true?” they
shall say: We swear by our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] it is true”. Their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] will say: “Then taste My punishment for you uttered blasphemies;
consciously denied the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]!”.
31Lost and suffered were the people who had denied to meet Allah. When
Qiyamat comes, they shall say, bearing their sins upon their backs: “O woe to us for
we sinned in the world!”. –Behold! How evil is their burden/sins!-

32And the simple worldly life is just fun and games. The final destination/the
home of the Akhirat [Afterlife] is surely better for those who surrender themselves
under the guardianship of Allah. Will you still not understand?
33We surely know that you sadden upon what they say. But they do not deny
you; but those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; who act their own
good consciously deny the Ayat of Allah.
34And surely, the messengers before you were all denied and they kept patient
against denial and humiliation until Our help arrived. And no one can alter the words
of Allah. Surely, you have been told some of the stories of the messengers.
35And if their denial is hard upon you, find a hole into the ground or a ladder up
to the Heavens if you can and bring them evidence/sign! Had Allah wished, He
would have gathered them upon the guide to the righteous path. Then never be
among those ignorant!
36Only those who heed will respond. The dead ones; only Allah will resurrect
them. Then they shall only be returned to Him.
37And they say: “Why have evidence/a sign from his Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] not been sent down to him?”. Say: “Surely,
Allah is able to send down evidence/a sign, but most of them do not know that”.
38And no moving creatures, small or large, and no bird flying with its two
wings on the world are not a community with a leader like you. We left nothing
out/missing in the Scripture. They shall eventually gather unto their Rabb [the Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].
39Those who deny Our Ayat are the deaf and blind ones who are in the
darkness. Whoever deserves Allah surprises him and whoever deserves Allah put
him upon the righteous path.
40Say: “Have you ever thought about yourselves? Should the wrath of Allah
touch you or the Qiyamat [Resurrection] arrive, would you call upon anyone else
than Allah? –If your are righteous.-
41You would call only upon Allah but He would remove what you ask for if He
wished so and you would never call upon those that you associated with Allah again.
42And surely, We sent messengers before you to those people with a leader and
We put them into unbearable hardship and poverty to make them beg for help and
forgiveness.

43And when Our harsh punishment arrived, should they have begged? But their
hearts hardened and Satan made their evil activities alluring to them.
44And when they abandoned what they were reminded, We unleashed
everything upon them. We suddenly seized them when they ‘rejoiced and became
spoiled with what they had been given’. Then they became the ones whose hopes
were lost.
45Thus eradicated were the ones who did wrong by associating others with
Allah, uttering blasphemies; who acted against their own good. –And all praises be
upon Allah, Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all
universes; no one else can be praised.-
46Say: “Have you ever thought that had Allah taken your hearing and speech
and sealed your hearts; what other deity than Allah could have brought them back to
you?” Behold! How We explain the Ayat. Then they turn away and forbid them!
47Say: “Have you ever thought about yourselves? Had the wrath of Allah
seized you suddenly, who else would have been manipulated/destroyed than those
who did wrong by associating others with Allah; those who acted against their own
good?”
48And We send those messengers as bringers of good tidings and warners;
whoever believes and becomes righteous, no fear will be for him. They shall not
grieve either.
49Punishment will seize those who deny Our Ayat for they have gone astray
from the righteous path.
50Say: “I do not tell you that ‘the treasures of Allah are with me’. I do not know
the unseen, the unheard, the past and the future. And I do not tell that ‘I am an angel’
either. I only fulfill what I have been revealed”. Say: “Is a blind equal to the seeing?
Will you not think about it?”.
51And warn those who fear to be gathered before their Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] with what you have been revealed to make
them surrender under the guardianship of Allah. They have no helper, guide nor
protector from the subordinates of Him.
52And do not send away those who pray to their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher,
the Nurturer, the Sustainer] day and night to asking Him for His sake! No liability is
upon you for their account and no liability is upon them for your account. If you send
them away you will be among those who do wrong; who act against their own good!

53And We have led some of them into the fire and thus tested them so they
would say, “Is it these did Allah favor?”. Is Allah not the One Who knows best who
is grateful for what they are given?
54And when those who believe in Our Ayat come to you, say: “Peace be upon
you! Upon Himself has your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] written mercy. Surely, whoever of you commits an evil deed
unintentionally and then repents and corrects it; surely Allah is the One Who covers
the most His servants’ sins, the One Who does not punish them and the Most
Forgiving and the Most Merciful!”.
55Thuse We explain Our Ayat in detail. So the path of the sinners is
disclosed/clear for you.
56Say: “Surely, I have been forbidden from worshipping those subordinates of
Allah whom you worship”. Say: “I will not follow your whimsical desires. If I had I
would have transgressed and I would not be among those who reached the salvation
through the righteous path they had been guided”.
57Say: “I am upon a clear evidence from my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]. But you have denied that evidence. That which you want to
come quickly is not by my side, the judgment belongs only to Allah, He is the One
Who tells/fulfills the truth and He is the Best of judges”.
58Say: “Had that which you want to come quickly was by my side, the affair
between you and me would have already been fulfilled. And Allah knows the best
those who do wrong; those who act against their own good.
59Keys to the unseen, the unheard, the past and the future is only with Him. No
one but Him knows about them. He also knows what is on the Land and in the Seas.
Without His consent not even a leaf would fall. No grain and nothing, dry or wet,
which lie within the darkness of the land is not mentioned within the Scripture.
60And He is the One Who takes your life231 in the night; reminds you what you
did in the past and what you failed to do although you were obliged to; know what
you earn by the day; resurrects you to fulfill that predetermined term. Then you will
only be returned to Him. Then He will inform you about what you have done.
61And Allah dominates over His servants and sends angles upon you. And
when the death comes upon any of you, Our messengers take his life nothing more
nothing less; they remind him what he did in the past and what he failed to do
although he was obliged to. 62Then they shall be returned to their real God; Allah. Be
careful, judgment belongs only to Him and He is the Fastest of accountants”.

63Say: “Who saves you from the darkness of the land and the seas when you
call upon Him in secrecy, begging, ‘we will surely be among those who are grateful
if He saves us from this’?”.
64Say: “Only Allah saves you from that and any other trouble you may
experience. Then you associate others with Him. 114And should I seek for another
judge than Allah while He has sent down to you the Qur’an in detail/truth and
superstition separated?”. And those to whom We sent down a Scripture, they surely
know that the Qur’an is sent down by their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] with the truth. Then, never be among those who doubt about
if they are aware that this scripture has been sent down by Allah.
65Say: “He is the One Who is able to send His wrath from above you or from
below your feet or to divide you into clans and make you taste the resentment one
other”. Behold! How We diversify/explain in detail Our Ayat to ensure that they
comprehend it fully.
66Your people, on the other hand, have denied although the punishment/the
Qur’an/the Ayat has been explained in detail/is the truth. Say: “I am not the one to
set matters upon you in compliance with a preset schedule and maintain, support and
implement that schedule”. 67Every important news has a predefined time, you will
know soon. 104Surely, there has come upon you from your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] the information that will open your eyes,
guide you to the righteous path. Then, whoever sees the truth will do it for his own
good and whoever blinds himself will do it for his own damage. I am not a watcher
upon you!”232
68And when you see those who make their best efforts to deny Our
Ayat/evidence/signs, get away from them immediately as soon as they start a new
conversation. And even though Satan makes you forget about it, never sit with those
people who do wrong by associating others with Allah; who act against their own
good.
69And those who surrender themselves under the guardianship of Allah will not
be held liable for the accounts of those who do wrong by associating others with
Allah; who act against their own good. But a reminder for them to surrender under
the guardianship of Allah!
70And leave those who have made their religion fun and games and who have
made amusement their religion; who indulge in the worldly life and remind/preach
with the Qur’an: When a soul falls into the manipulation/destruction with what he
produces and earns with his own hands, he will have no helper, guide, intercessor nor
protector from those subordinates of Allah. Even though he wants to pay any price
for his sins, he will not be accepted. Those are the ones who fall into

manipulation/destruction with what they produce and earn. A drink on boiling water
and a painful punishment will be for them for they were not grateful.
71,72Say: Should we invoke those subordinates of Allah which neither benefit
nor harm us? Or should we be led astray from the righteous path after being guided
to it by Allah just like those who indulge in the allurement of Satan and wander on
the earth confused when they have friends who call them, ‘come upon us!’?”. Say:
“Surely, the path of Allah is the righteous path. And we have been commanded to
surrender to Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all
universes and to serve the Salat [Support financially and spiritually; enlighten the
community] and to surrender under the guardianship of Allah. And Allah is the One
around Whom we will gather”.
73And He is the One Who created the Heavens and the Earth with the Truth.
And on the day He says, “Be!”, it is. His Word is the Truth. On the day when Sur
will be blown, the dominion will belong to Him. He knows the best what is hidden
and what is disclosed. He is the Best of judges, He prevents corruption the
best/makes incorruptible the best, He knows the best inner-self/secrets of everything.

74And Abraham once said to his father Azar, “Do you adopt idols as your
deities? Surely, I see you and your people in a blatant perversion”.
75And thus We showed Abraham the dominion and governance of the Heavens
and the Earth to provide him evidence and make him one of those who believe.
76Therefore, Abraham saw a star when the night had set upon him and he said:
“This is my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]”. And when
the star set he said: “I do not favor that which sets”.
77And when he saw the moon rising, he said: “This is my Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]”. And when the moon set, he said: “Surely,
had my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] not shown me the
righteous path, I would be among the people who are in perversion”.
78,79And when he saw the sun rising, he said: “This is my Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]”. And when the sun set, he said: “O my
people! Surely I am away from those which you associate with Allah. Surely, as a
believer; as a man who has turned away from superstition, I have turned my face
towards the One Who created the Heavens and the Earth out of nothing/who will
destroy the Heavens and the Earth and I am not among those who associate others
with Allah”.

80,81And his people disputed with him. Abraham said: “Do you dispute with me
about Allah even though He has shown me the righteous path? I do not fear those
which you associate with Him. –I only fear the will of my Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].- My Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] encompasses everything with knowledge. Do you still not
think about it? And why should I fear those which you associate while you do not
fear to associate others with Allah even though He has not sent down
power/authority upon them? So, if you know, which one of these two communities
deserve to be safe?”.
82Those who believe and those who do not do wrong for their belief; act against
their own good/do not associate others with Allah; they shall be in safety.
83And these are the evidence that We gave Abraham against his people. We
raise whomever We wish in degrees. Surely, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] is the Best Law-Maker, the One Who Precludes Corruption
the Best/the One Who Makes Incorruptible the Best, He is the Most Knowing.
84And We gave him Isaac and Jacob. We showed them all the righteous path.
We had shown the righteous path to Noah and his descendants, David, Solomon, Job,
Joseph, Moses and Aaron before you. Thus We reward those who do good-beautiful
deeds.
85And We showed Zachariah, John [Ibn-Zachariah], Jesus and Elijah the
righteous path as well. They all were righteous.
86We showed Ishmael, Elisha, Jonas and Lot the righteous path. We favored
them above all universes.
87And We favored them above their ancestors, descendants and brothers. And
We chose them and guided them to the righteous path.
88This is the guide of Allah. With it, He guides any of His servants He pleases.
Had they associated others with Him, surely all they had done would have been for
nothing.
89Those are the ones to whom We sent down Our Scriptures, judgments and
made prophets. Now, if they do not believe them, We make a people who would
believe and maintain, support and implement this schedule instead.
90Those are the ones whom Allah guides. Now, follow their guide/the
revelation sent to them. Say: “I do not demand a payment thereof. It is only an
admonition for all universes”.

10. 10
91And they did not appreciate Allah as they should have/know Allah
appropriately when they said: “Allah has not sent anything to the mankind”. Say:
“Who sent down the Scripture which Moses brought to enlighten and guide the
people, you used as text material peace by peace, disclosed some parts of it but hid
most of it; from which you and your ancestors learned many things you did not know
before?”. Then say: “Allah!”. Then leave them busying themselves with their vain
deeds.
92This is a Scripture full of blessings and confirming what is mentioned within,
which We have sent down upon you to warn the Mother of All Cities and the people
nearby. Those who believe in Akhirat [Afterlife] also believe in it and they protect
their Salat [Support financially and spiritually; enlighten the community].
93And who else is more wrong; who acts more against his own good than those
who lie against Allah or say “I have been divinely revealed” even though they have
not been and who say “I will also reveal the truth as Allah did”? If only you could
see those who do wrong by associating others with Allah; who act against their own
good when they are in violence of the death and when authorities in charge extend
their hands to them saying: “Take their lives. Today, you will be punished and
humiliated for you have told lies against Allah and acted arrogantly against His
Ayat!”.
94And surely, you have come to Us all alone/one by one as We created you first
and you have left behind that which We bestowed you. And We do not see with you
those which your so-called supporters who you believe to be partners of Allah.
Surely, you have been severed/torn apart and those fancy beliefs have been vanished.
95Surely, Allah is the One Who splits and sprouts grains and seeds: He extracts
the living from the dead, and extracts the dead from the living. That is Allah! See
how you are being led astray?
96He is the One Who splits the daybreak. He made the night for resting and He
created the sun and the moon upon a schedule. This is the determination,
measurement of the Most Exalted, the Most Powerful, the Most Honorable, the
Invincible/the Subduer, the Most Knowing One.
97And Allah is the One Who introduced stars so you may find the righteous
path you are being guided through the darkness of the land and the seas. Surely, We
have explained the Ayat in detail for a people who have knowledge.
98And He is the One Who built you from a single soul. Then a place to sojourn
and a place to deposit…233 –We surely have explained the Ayat in detail for a people
who comprehend.-

11. 11
99And Allah is the One Who brought down the water from the Heavens. Thus
We grew plants of all things. And from these, We grow grains, similar and not, upon
each other; clusters hanging down from the sprout of date, grapevines, olives and
pomegranates. When these yield fruits, look upon their fruits and how they ripen!
This is truly evidence/a sign for a people who believe.
100But they associated unseen forces and entities with Allah. Yet He created
them as well. They fabricated sons and daughters of Allah without knowledge. –
Exalted and exonerated is the Glory of Him above all that which they describe.-
101He is the One Who created the Heavens and the Earth from nothing. How could
He beget children while He has no mistress/wife? And He is the One Who created
all. And He is the Best and the Most Knowing.
102This is Allah, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! There is no god but Him. He is the Creator of all things. Therefore,
worship Him. He is the One Who sets everything upon a schedule and maintains,
supports and implements that schedule.
103No eye can see Him but He can see all eyes; He is the Giver of Many
Blessings, He is the Most Knowing of all things.
105Thus We diversify/explain in detail the Ayat so they may say to you, “You
have been taught/read and learned all these” and thus We make the Qur’an clear.
106,107Follow what your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer], the One and the Only God, has revealed to you. Turn away from those
who associate others with Allah. Had Allah wished, they could have not associated.
We have not appointed you a supervisor upon them, and you are not the one to set all
matters upon them according to a schedule and to maintain, support and implement
that schedule!
108Do not curse upon those subordinates of Allah to whom they call so they
shall not transgress without knowing and curse upon Allah. Thus We adorned the
deeds of every people with a leader. Then they shall be returned to their Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. And they shall be informed on what
they have done.
109And those who associate others with Allah; when evidence/a sign is sent
upon them, they swear by Allah with their strongest oaths that they shall believe in
Allah. Say: “Evidence/signs are only with Allah”. Do you not see that they shall not
believe when evidence/signs come to them?
110And We turn away their hearts and eyes as they refused to believe first. And
We leave them blind and confused in their transgression.

12. 12
111And had We sent down upon them certain powers so they could speak with
the dead and had We gathered all things before them, -except for the will of Allah-
they would not believe. But most of them are still ignorant.
112,113Thus, for each prophet We made enemies from their demons, hidden or
open; so hearts of those, who did not believe in them due to their indulgence into the
allurement of the worldly life, would incline towards them; and some of these
enemies inspired each other/whispered into each other’s ear poetic words so they
would be content of them and do what they used to do. –Had your Rabb [the Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] wished, they could have not done so.
Then, leave them and what they have fabricated!-
115And the words of your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] are fulfilled in terms of both accuracy and justice. No one to alter His
words. He is the Best Hearing, the Best Knowing.
116If you follow the majority of those who are on the Earth, they shall lead you
stray from the path of Allah. Because they only follow “assumptions” and they busy
themselves with nothing but trivial matters.
117Surely, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is
the One Who knows best who has gone astray from His path. And He knows best
who follows the righteous path he is guided.
124And when an Ayah was revealed to them, they said: “We will not believe
unless we are authorized as the messengers of Allah”. Allah knows better whom to
appoint as a messenger. A humiliating and severe punishment from Allah will touch
those who commit crimes for the deception they have done.
125And whomever He pleases to guide to the righteous path, Allah opens up his
heart for Islam. And whomever He pleases to lead astray from the righteous path, He
tightens his chest so severely as though he ascends to the Heavens. Thus throws
Allah the filth [damage, things that inflict pain] upon those who do not believe.

119And why should you not eat upon which the name of Allah has been uttered
although He explained you in detail what He has forbidden [Haram] to you except
for emergencies? And surely, many people indulge in their desires and transgress
without knowing. Surely, your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] is the One Who knows the best those transgressors.
120Leave all sins, blatant or hidden! Surely, those who commit sin will be
punished for what they have earned.

121And do not eat anything upon which the name of Allah has not been uttered.
Surely, it would be transgression. And surely, demons inspire those who are close to
them to struggle with you. And if you succumb to them, indeed you will become the
ones who associate others with Allah.
122Are those whom We have resurrected when they were dead and bestowed
whom the light of life are same as those who are left in the darkness and not able to
find a way out? Thus, the deeds of those infidels; those who consciously deny the
Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer] have been shown to them ‘adorned and alluring’.
123And We made seniors of each city the criminals of that city so they could
conspire there. But they do evil deeds only against themselves without knowing.
126And this is the straight path of your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Surely, We have explained the Ayat in detail for a people
who remember and take the admonition.
127Peace, safety and health will be theirs in the presence of their Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] for the good deeds they do. And
their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is their helper, guide
and protector.
128And on the day when Allah will gather them, they shall be told: “O secret
group of enemies! You indeed made such people many!...”
Their relatives will say: “O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! We have earned from each other. And eventually We have reached the
end of the respite You gave us”. Allah will say: “The fire is your final destination.
You will stay there eternally unless Allah wishes otherwise”. Surely, your Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is the Best Law-Maker, the One
Who Precludes Corruption the Best/the One Who Makes Incorruptible the Best.
129Thus We will take some of those who do wrong due to their sins; act against
their own good closer to some of them.
130O hidden, open mankind of today and the future! Did messengers among
you not come to explain My Ayat and warn you that you would ultimately reach your
current position? They said: “We do testify against ourselves”. The simple worldly
life led them astray and they testified that they were the infidels; the ones who had
been consciously denied the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He was Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].

131This is the evidence that your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer] does not unjustly manipulate/destroy nations when they are not aware,
when they have not the knowledge.
132And there are degrees according to the deeds they have done. And your
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is not unaware/apathetic
to what they have done.
133And your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is very
rich/requires nothing, and He is the Most Merciful. He is able to eradicate you as He
created you from other people and then replace you with others.
134Surely, what you have been revealed will be fulfilled. And you are not to
preclude it.
135Say: “O my people! Do what you can, surely I do my best as well. Soon you
will know for whom will the end of the Land be. Surely, those who associate others
with Allah; who act against their own good will not reach the salvation”.

136And they allocated a share for Allah from the crops and beasts Allah created
and said according to their perverted beliefs: “This is for Allah and this is for our
partners”. The share of their partners will not reach Allah, and what belongs to Allah
does reach them. How evil is their judgment!
138And due to their wrong belief, they said: “These are untouchable beasts and
crops. No one but those we chose can eat them. These are the beasts backs of which
are forbidden”. And they lie to Allah and do not utter the name of Allah upon certain
beasts. Allah will surely punish them for what they deny.
139And they said: “What is in the wombs of these beasts belong only to our
men but are forbidden to our women. If stillborn, then our women may have their
share”. Allah will punish them with their descriptions. Surely, He is the Best Law-
Maker, the One Who Precludes Corruption the Best/the One Who Makes
Incorruptible the Best. The Most Knowing.
137And their partners made sacrificing their children alluring for many of those
who associate others with Allah demanding it to ease their burden or out of shame or
sacrificing for their gods, so they destroy themselves and spoil and corrupt their
religion. Had Allah wished so, they could have not done that. Then, leave them and
what they fabricated!
140Those who unwittingly took their children’s life due to their lack of
knowledge and those who made the blessings from Allah forbidden [Haram] by lying

against Allah, they have indeed become losers. They surely are transgressors and
they do not follow the righteous path they are guided.
141Allah is the One Who created gardens, with or without trellises, many
species of crops, olives and pomegranates, similar to each other or not. Eat their
fruits when they yield, and give their due on the harvest day and do not waste.
Surely, Allah does not like those who waste.
142And He is the One Who created those beasts which carry burden and those
from hair of which beds are made. Eat what Allah bestows you. Do not follow the
steps of Satan. Surely, He is a blatant enemy of yours.
143Eight pairs: Two of sheep and two of goat. Say: “Allah has forbidden two
males or two females or kids enshrouded by the wombs of two females? If you are
righteous, give me this information relying unto science”.
144And two of camel and two of cattle… Say: Allah has forbidden two males or
two females or kids of two females? Or were you with Allah when He gave you this
liability?” Who is more wrong than those who lie against Allah to make people
transgress without relying unto any such information? Surely, Allah does not guide
those people who do wrong by associating others with Allah; who act against their
own good.
145Say: “I cannot find in what I have been revealed anything that is forbidden
[Haram] for those who eat it other than carcasses or spilled blood or flesh of swine --
flesh of swine is indeed impure and disgusting- or flesh of any beast that is
slaughtered in the name of any other god than Allah thus constitutes a sign for going
astray from the righteous path. Anyone may eat them when they have no other
choice, without transgressing nor exceeding the amount they require”. Here, your
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is indeed the Most
Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
118If you believe in the Ayat of Allah, only eat that upon which the name of
Allah is uttered.234
146And We forbid Jews from all beasts with undivided hooves. We forbade
them also from the fat of the cattle and sheep other than the fat that they carry on
their backs or in their intestines or mixed with their bones. This is the way We
punished them for their aggression. And We surely confirm that.
147If they still deny you, say immediately: “Your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] possesses vast mercy. And His wrath cannot
be averted from being set upon the people of sinners”.

16. 16
148Those who associate others with Allah will say: “Had Allah wished so, we
would have not associated, and our ancestors would have not as well, and we would
have not made anything forbidden”. Thus were those before them until they tasted
Our wrath. Say: “Do you have an information you can produce? You only follow
assumptions and you only do trivial deeds”.

149Say: “With Allah is the manifest and perfect evidence. Therefore, had Allah
wished so, He would guide you indeed”.
150Say: “Now, bring your witnesses who will testify, saying ‘Allah has
absolutely forbidden this’”. Should they testify despite all these, do not testify with
them. Do not follow the whimsical desires of those who deny My Ayat and those
who do not believe in Akhirat [Afterlife]. And they equate others with their Rabb
[the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].
151Say: “Come around me so I can recite you what your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] has made taboo and untouchable”.
‘Not to associate anything with Him,
to treat your mothers and fathers good,
to kill your children lest you would become/made poor, -We give you and them
Our blessings and sustenance.-
to keep away from the evil, hidden or obvious,
to unjustly kill any soul forbidden by Allah, -These are the liabilities He
brought upon you so you may use your reason.-
152Do not touch orphans’ property, -Only until they reach puberty you can
approach and use their properties in the most appropriate way.-,
weigh in justice and give full measure, -We never burden anyone over their
capacity; exceeding what they are able to cope with.-
speak justly even against your relatives,
and keep your words against Allah.’ –These are the liabilities Allah brought
upon you so you may take the admonition and take lessons.-“

17. 17
153And surely, this directly is My path. Follow it right away. And do not follow
other paths so it leads you stray from His path. These are the liabilities Allah brought
upon you so you surrender under the guardianship of Allah.
154Then We gave Moses the Scripture so he could explain all in detail those
who did good deeds that they could believe that they would meet their Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and as a guide and mercy.
155-157And the Qur’an is a Scripture full of blessings that We sent down upon
you so you will not say, “Only two people before us, Jews and Christians, were given
a Scripture and we cannot read these Scriptures as we do not understand their
languages” or “Had a Scripture been sent down upon us, we would have been on a
righteous path better than them”. Therefore, follow it and surrender yourselves under
the guardianship of Allah so you may be shown mercy. This is a manifest evidence,
guide and mercy sent down by your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]. Therefore, who else can be more wrong than those who deny and turn
away from the Ayat of Allah and those who act against their own good? We will
punish those who turn away from Our Ayat with the most severe pain for their
denial.
158Do they expect anything other than descend of angels or coming of their
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] or revelation of certain
evidence/signs of their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]?
On the day when some of the evidence/signs of their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher,
the Nurturer, the Sustainer] come, those who have never believed or got nothing
from their faith will not be able to benefit from their faith. Say: “Wait; surely we are
the ones who wait as well”.
159Surely, you are not among those who scattered their religion and have
divided into groups in your form and behaviors. Surely, Allah will deal with them.
then Allah will inform them about what they do.
160Whoever brings good will get ten times of his good deeds. And whoever
brings evil will be punished with its counterpart and they shall not be treated
unjustly.
161Say: “Surely, my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]
has guided me to the righteous path; to a religion standing tight, the religion and the
lifestyle of Abraham who returned away from associating others with Allah,
consciously denying the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]… Abraham was not among those who
associated others with Allah”.
162,163Say: “My Salat [Support financially and spiritually; enlighten the
community] and my servitude; all my prayers, my life and my death are only for

Allah, Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all universes,
who has no partners at all. And thus have I been commanded; I am the first Muslim
as well”.
164,165Say: “Should I seek for another Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer] other than Allah when He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher,
the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all universes?”. What anyone earns is his. Those who
carry his burden does not carry another’s burden. Then, only to your Rabb [the Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will you be returned. Thus will Allah
inform you about what you conflict. And He is the One Who makes you the
successors of those who have left the Earth, and raise you in degrees above each
other in order to test you with what you are given. Surely, your Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] is fast in retribution and surely, He is the Most
Forgiving and the Most Merciful.
