The document analyzes the digipak designs of three albums: 1) Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die" which uses simple colors that allow the song lyrics and titles to stand out. The author likes that the font is consistent and draws attention to the artist on the front cover. 2) Rihanna's album which prominently features the color red associated with her hair and themes of love/lust. While the bold, clear font is effective, the sexualized image of Rihanna does not fit the goal of empowering their own female artist. 3) Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" uses the color pink consistently in reference to the album title. 2.  The digipak used for Lana Del Rey’s album Born to
Die is one that I am analysing due to Lana being
an inspirational female which is something that
we want for our artist. I like the fact that she is on
the front cover looking very serious but also
powerful. The fact that she has clothing similar to
her style on makes it clear straight away who her
target audience is. I like the idea of this because
then it allows for the music genre and style to be
obvious immediately.
 The simple colours used through the digipak is
effective because it allows the font of the song
lyrics and the song titles to stand out without
making it look too obtrusive.
 I also like how the font is consistent throughout
the digipak making it simple but again, effective.
This also allows for the attention to be drawn
towards the artist on the front of the cover
instead of words that are being pushed to the
forefront.
 Overall I really like the digipak
design for Lana Del Rey’s Born to
Die album. However, due to Lana’s
music being very different to that
of the song that we are using, it is
quite hard to compare her to our
artists because of the juxtaposing
between the two styles.

3.  The reason why I am analysing Rihanna’s digipak design is
to compare our artist and our ideas to hers due to both
artists being females within the R&B music genre.
 The first thing that is clear and consistent within the
digipak design is the colour red. Not only is the colour
consistent with that of Rihanna's hair, but is also has many
different connotations. The idea of red being about love
and lust reflects the type of person that Rihanna wishes to
be viewed as. Also, the fact that she is female within the
R&B genre, coincides with the typical ideas of females
within this genre. This also is reflected with how she is
laying across the rose bush in the leaflet. This isn't
something that we wish our artist to be shown like
because we want our artist to come away from the typical
ideas of females being promiscuous and focussing on
love.
 I like the type of font used within the digipak because it is
clear, bold and consistent. Furthermore, the fact that it is
white writing on the red background allows the writing to
stand out, projecting the name of the album and artist to
the target audience.
 Overall I feel that Rihanna's digipak is too sultry
for the type of idea that we have due to us
wanting the female empowerment to be a big
thing that comes through within our artist. I do
however, like the positioning of the font and the
style and feel that this could be something that
we could use within our digipak. Furthermore, I
again like the idea of having the artist on the
cover of the digipak , but would like our artist to
not be as revealing or to show herself being of a
promiscuous type.

4.  For this analysis, I will be looking at the digipak design of Nicki Minaj’s
album, Pink Friday.The reason that I have chosen to look at this
digipak is because not only is Nicki Minaj someone that females would
look up to, but she is also from the R&B genre.
 The first thing that is quite obvious about the digipak as a whole is the
colour pink. The usage of the colour links to the fact that the album
itself is called ‘Pink’ Friday. Furthermore, with the colour relating to
the name of the album, I like that the word ‘Pink’ is the only one in a
different style and different colour. This stands out and allows the
artist to show the audience exactly what they want them to see.
Moving onto the font, I like how it is in a clear and visible font and
colour on a white background allowing it to stand out even more.
However, the white coloured font on the back of the album where the
song titles are, is on a light pink to white background. This then means
that it is quite hard to be able to see the song titles which are a very
important part of the album. The pictures of Nicki Minaj used are quite
proactive which portray her in a sultry, ‘slutty’ and almost tacky
fashion. This is something that we want to avoid with our artist
because we want her to be an inspiration to females of all ages.
Furthermore, Nicki’s body is edited a lot. Although this is purposeful, it
isn’t something that we want our artist looking like because it looks
fake. I do however, like the number of pictures that are used of the
artist. I feel like it allows the audience to see a quirky side of her that
you wouldn’t normally see.
