We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Front Cover
• The most noticeable thing on the front cover is the picture used of Rihanna. This picture is a close-
up, which is a common convention of pop artists, and this image focuses on her facial expression.
Her make up and facial expression are very erotic, as she is looking down and her mouth is ajar.
This could suggest that her songs on this album are sexual. The image will attract both male and
females, the male gaze will be attracted to her looks and provocativeness of the image. Her red
lipsticks match with her red hair, as her lips are the brightest thing on the page we are instantly
attracted to them, following her hair. Red has connotations of lust, desire and passion, this could
signify the type of artist and music she produces. Rihanna is looking down, instead of directly into
the camera, this shows that she also has a vulnerable and insecure side.
• ‘L O U D’ is the title of the album and is spread out across the width of the page. Even though the
font is very simple and thin, the name is still eye catching. The title attracts the audience as it
stands out well against Rihanna’s red hair. As the lettering is tall it could signify she is at the peak
of her fame and is well-known.
• The artist’s name is not on the front cover of the album, which shows her star image. It shows she
is well-established in the music industry as people will be able to recognise her without even
having to see her name on the page. Also as she is not making direct eye-contact with the
audience in this image, this once again shows her popularity.
3. Back Cover
• The back cover consists of an image of Rihanna as well as her track list and barcode. The colour
of the back cover is a much softer tone of red, which gives it a more relaxed ambiance, compared
to the front cover which is much bolder and vibrant.
• The typography on the back is the same as the font of ‘L O U D’ on the front cover. By keeping it
the same it shows consistency and the font is easily readable for the audience.
• Rihanna is shown to be looking down once again in the picture on the back cover and the image
used is a long-shot, which allows us to see her body position. The image suggests that she has
been heart-broken and some of the songs will relay this as she looks vulnerable in this image
used. However, the image is also provocative by her clothing as she is wearing a short white
dress, white has connotations of innocence and purity.
4. The Disk
• The image of a pink rose covers the whole of the
disk. The disk suggests the album is feminine as the
image is of a large rose and in the colour pink,
which is a colour stereotypically related to females.
• By using the colour light pink it has connotations of
adoration and love, which follows the theme on the
front and back. The colour also compliments and
contrasts well with the bright red on the front and
more subtle red on the back. Bright colours are a
common convention of pop genre, and Rihanna has
followed this convention on her digipak.
• The font is similar to the one on the back and front,
which once again shows consistency. As the text is
positioned together is comes across as neat and
the titles of the song are around the edge of the
disc, which makes it stand out.
5. Colour Scheme
The colour scheme is kept very consistent throughout the digipak.
Red is the main colour used which is a bright bold colour, which
stands out. She also used the colours pink and white, all three
colours give a sexual, lustful and romantic feel to the digipak. By
using bright red, as well as her hair and lips being bright red, this
links in with the album name ‘Loud’ as bright red is very vibrant and
bold.
6. Front Cover
• Selena Gomez’s name is the most noticeable factor on the page. It is the largest
font on the front cover and in capital letter, meaning it will be eye-catching if it
was sitting on a shelf in a shop. People will be drawn to it by the boldness of the
font. She has placed her album name at the bottom of the page, which is also in
capital letters. This font is easily readable and will be easily seen by the
audience. The font colour is two-toned as it gradually goes from orange to pink,
this could suggest there are two moods and feelings within her album and the
songs.
• A close-up of Selena Gomez has been used, she is standing on the side showing
off her side profile. She is looking down in the image, which suggest vulnerability
and coyness, as the album name ‘For You’ suggests its for someone special to
her. The image doesn’t show Selena’s face properly, but from what we can see is
that she doesn’t have a lot of makeup on and her hair is in a messy bun, which
shows she is simple and is naturally pretty. This will attract her fans as it shows
her to be genuine as she is not hiding behind a face full of makeup.
7. Back Cover
• Selena Gomez has kept the same colour scheme on the back with the colour scheme
on the front. There is an image of Selena looking directly into the camera, where as on
the front she is shown to be looking down. By looking directly at the audience it helps
the audience to connect with her better. The image is the same colour as the text,
orange and pink, which relates her to the songs on the album and to the album itself.
This image will attract the male gaze as her mouth is slightly open and she is directly
making eye contact, this image comes across as alluring and suggestive.
• The font on the back is large and in capital letters, which matches the font on the front
cover. This typography makes it easier for the audience to see and read the text on
the back cover. The colour of the font is the same as the front, two-toned, which
shows consistency and professionalism. The text is alongside of the picture, which fits
in well with the image and looks stylish.
8. Colour Scheme
Colours such as pink, orange and black have been
used on Selena Gomez’s album. The colours reflect the
genre of music and the type of mood the songs within
the album consists of. Pink and orange are quite vibrant
and warm colours which connote power, love and
femininity. As the text is in two colours, this could show
the contrast between the songs, some being up beat
and girly whereas the other being lustful and sexual.
