Saint Anne, The Mother Of Mary And The Mother Of Jesus
Saint Anne is easily identified as the Mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus. Saint Anne was Palestinian, but born in Bethlehem (Asselin; The
Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). Sacred scripture does not "mention... Mary's parents", but "there is not a total lack of information about" them.
Some sources believe that Saint Anne could not have children (Asselin; Holweck; "Saint Anne"; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica) . Because of
this, she and her husband, Saint Joachim, made many sacrifices and prayed to God for the gift of a child ("Saint Anne"). "The Protoevangelium of
James" states that "an angel appeared to..." them, saying that Saint Anne would "conceive and bear a child who would become famous throughout the
world" regardless of her old age (Asselin; Holweck; "Saint Anne."; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). St. Joachim and St. Anne are Jesus's
grandparents and belong, in a sense, to the "Holy Family" (Asselin). They are often referred to as a holy model by Christian couples (Asselin). "After
Jesus and Mary, St. Anne is one of the subjects that appears most frequently in iconography" (Asselin). Saint Anne's feast day is celebrated on "July
26th" (Asselin; Holweck; "Saint Anne."; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica).
While there are no eye–witness descriptions of Saint Anne's active engagement in her faith, her devotion to God is displayed through her actions and
role as a mother. Saint Anne is the patron saint of many different aspects of

The Ideal Parent: Brightening a Childs Future Parenting is a big part of every ones lives; it makes up who you are as a person and in many cases
projects who you will be in the future. Some adults have trouble manipulating their children and teaching them what is right from wrong, while others
have a much easier time doing so. In my opinion there is no such thing as "the perfect parent", both the mother and the father have their flaws, but
what matters is that the parent is always there for personal support. To me a good parent is someone who is always there to support there children in
both good and bad terms, and a responsible adult that can supply for their kids necessities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The father is un–employed and the mother is making the same amount as her teenage daughter. This shows a lack of responsibility coming from
both parents because at this age the parents should be concerned about the daughter going to school and both parents should have a job accounted
for. The irresponsibility's of the parents can affect a child from a young age, not only does it complicates the life of the kid, but the parents do a
poor job of teaching a child the values of being responsible. One parent shows responsibilities for their kids while the other parent shows no
remorse for her daughter. Finally, being a leader and a hard worker not only in your children's lives but also in society is what makes a huge
difference between a great parent and a mediocre parent. Showing a child the values of leadership and hard work can make a kids future that much
better. A parent that holds these two characteristics and is able to put them to use in society will not only be a great example for their kids, but a
superb example of a great parent. In the poem "Those Winter Sundays", Hayden illustrates the hard work and leadership this father puts in for the family
to have a nice comfortable living. "Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that
ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him." (1–5)

Being A Mother : My Life Of My Mother
My mother is the most diligent worker I know and I highly respect her for that. My mom, sister, and I moved across the globe to find better
opportunities for jobs and Education. She worked two jobs as a single mother, and was still able to take care of and support my sister and me in
anything we aspired to do. Being a mother itself is difficult enough because it is an everyday job with no brakes or vacation. She is the person who
inspires me and the person who motivates me to do my best at everything I do. To her, my sister and I's happiness was worth more to her than her
own and for that I truly believe she is the best person in the world. Even when things get hard for her, she does not take time out for herself. During the
death of my grandfather, she had no time to grieve over him because she told us that she has work to keep my sister and I fed and happy. That was
when I realized that if she is going through all the gruelling effort just to keep me and my sister happy, then my goal in life would just to give back to
her by making her proud of me. With her as my motivation I joined things that would make her proud. Freshmen year, I auditioned for thehigh school
traveling band, which was a truly challenging band to get into. I was one of only six freshmen to get in. Joining that band allowed me to experience
my first time traveling with the school across the country to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York, one of the most prestigious halls to perform in the
world. I

"fear of life" (100). Pauline has always despised her daughter, when she sees Pecola just after her birth, she remarks: "Head full of pretty hair but
Lord she was ugly" (98). But she (Pauline) cares for the infant she takes care of then feels ashamed of her child and abuses her, like attacking her
when she unintentionally spills a blueberry pie at the Fishers. Pauline fails utterly as a mother when she distrusts Pecola's account of the first time her
father rapes her. Her disbelief prevents her from protecting her daughter, who will be sexually assaulted again. Similarly, Pecola's father, Cholly, who
has endured devastating experiences in his life, is incapable of fatherly behavior. He is neglectful and abusive with his children. As an oppressed

When I was growing up, my mother babysat for money. My earliest memories have always been of the local kids who spent their afternoons at our
home, my mother the ringmaster of our own little circus. As fun as that was for our family, it just wasn't enough to make ends meet. We needed better
healthcare and a retirement for my mother, without her having to sacrifice her love of being with children. She started at my sisters elementary, slowly
going from volunteer to Instructional Assistant as she fell in love with her job. The kids meant everything to her and finding a job that allowed her that
was unparalleled in its importance to us.
After finally settling at the library, I got to see my mother turn into the amazing woman she is today. She

Mother In Sundiata
The Significant Role of Mothers in the Development of their Children
Over the years, the role of mother in the life of their children has been crucial and prominent. The child's first education starts at home with their
mother. The mother teaches the child how to walk, how to talk, and how to become a strong man or woman in the society. Some mothers will even
stop going to work in order to take care of their kids so that they can be a better person and a good citizen. Mothers also sacrifices their time, wants
and desire to benefit their child, they serve as protection and stability for their children. Mothers build up the strength in their children to make them
fulfill their goals, and to be a better citizen.
In the story of "Sundiata", two mothers are said to play a significant role in the life of their children. The mothers are Sogolon (sundiata's mother), and
Sassouma (Dankaran Touman's mother). The mothers in the story of "Sundiata" influence the life and development of their children by changing
destiny, providing protection and building up their children's strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story, Dankaran Touman was not the heir to the throne, and he was not a strong man, unlike Sundiata. But his mother, been a wicked and
selfish mother changed her son's destiny by convincing the kingmaker that Sundiata will not be a good king, and the king maker made her son the
king. After he had reign for some years, he was defeated by Soumaoro, the sorcerer king. From this perspective, it is obvious that ruling people, and
being a leader is not his way because ruling people, and being a leader is not his destiny, but his mother changed

April, 26 2012 my dad died. I believe it was the month of December when my mom sat me down and told me. I will forget this night, We got
Popeye's for dinner and she usually didn't sit at the dinner table with me but this night she did. I remember her sitting directly across from me
staring and smiling, I could tell something was up. Then she told me Papi has liver cancer, and the doctors say he has a few months left but we're
not gonna go by what the doctors say we're going by what the good lord says! At this time I was 12 so it didn't really know how serious I should of
been taking it. I remember I felt like crying but I didn't want my mom to know I was scared, so I tried to hold back my tears. The thing is when he
was battling with this I never really thought about the fact that he would die, I just thought he would get better and everything would be fine.... Show

homework I asked if I could talk to her in the hall. When we were in the hall I was crying so much, the hallways were flooding not literally. I

Argumentative Essay On The Mother Of A Mother
It takes more than one person to have a child. The mother does carry the baby through a long nine months, but she does need help sometimes. The
father has his own special way to care for his newborn. When a baby comes into the world it needs a lot of care and attention. This is a lot of pressure
on the mother all alone. This is why fathers need to get paternity leave along with his wife or mother of his child. There are biological, legal, and
even moral reasons why a father should have time off to spend with his new baby.
They say a woman becomes a mother when she finds out that she is expecting, and a man becomes a father the first time he holds his baby. After a
month a baby is able to tell apart his or her mom and dad. For decades, psychologists and other researchers assumed that the mother–child bond was the
most important bond in a child's life. Within the last several decades scientists are increasingly realizing just how much dads matter. Just like women,
fathers' bodies respond to parenthood, and their parenting style affects their kids just as much, and sometimes more, than mom's. When one person is
at home with a new baby and the other remains at work, they can start living in different worlds and have less to talk about. The stay–at–home mom
wants to discuss the baby's milestones and the working dad, while interested, misses their dinner conversations about the workplace. If parents can
afford to take maternity and paternity leave simultaneously, it can benefit

Mother Dearest, You were alive for 19 years of my life, but I only had you for 16 to 17 years of my life. While you there psychically, you were not
there mentally or emotionally. I spent my entire life being my own cheerleader. You couldn't provide me with the type of support I needed. You never
could and in the end, you never did. I spent my entire childhood being a mini adult. I spent it being a parent to myself, my siblings and to you; my own
mother. I gave up on making friends because I felt it was selfish of me to do so when I was needed so badly at home. The times I did get the
courage enough to make friends I would go to their houses and I would boil with envy and jealousy. Their parents while very loose with their rules
and many of my friends being very unruly children. None the less they were still parents. I often at times felt as though you were my peer and not
my mother. I often at times felt betrayed by you because you were supposed to care for me and instead I spend my days caring for you and looking

A Short Story : My Mother And Mother
May 31, 2001. My mom and father separated. I was born. There was struggle and commotion everywhere. How am I going to support five
children? How am I going to raise FIVE children, all by myself? I am assuming those were questions my mom asked herself when I was born. I do
not know how she accomplished it, but I know she raised five children, practically, on her own. And by doing so she inspired us all that we can defeat
the obstacles life throws at us even if they seem impossible or difficult at the time. My mother eloped extremely young, which was not uncommon
because she lived in Somalia. The happiness she eloped for was turned into deceit and heartache. My father, who is about five years older than my
mom, cheated on her, twice. The first time she forgave him but, the second time well, that was the last straw. The second time, around the same
time I was born, my mom was so furious that my father had to leave the house and he was not allowed to see me. After weeks of separation, they
finally attained a divorce and after that I rarely saw my mom. Once my father was out of the picture, my mom had to be the man and woman of the
house. When she was not in the house cleaning or cooking, she was out selling clothing and other merchandise. And when I say she was selling
products, I do not mean she had a store. My mother would go out, carrying all her products on her back, and going door to door trying to make profit
so she can provide for us. The only times my mother was

Oskar's Mother
Oskar's mother remains unnamed throughout the story and is referred to as "Mom". Her husband, Thomas Schell Jr., recently passed away in the
9/11 terrorist attack. She hasn't dealt his death easily, nor has Oskar. Although Mom is attempting to help Oskar cope with his father's death, Oskar
believes that "if she could have chosen, it would have been my [Oskar's] funeral we were driving to" (Foer 141). She only wants what is best for
Oskar, however their already tense relationship became worse after her husband's death. For most of the story, Mom seems like a bad parent due to
the fact that she never asks where Oskar is going when he leaves the apartment. However, at the end of the book we learn a lot about Mom that we
never would have expected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She rarely cries in front of Oskar and attends a grief group without Oskar knowing. Oskar, however, thinks that because she isn't crying, she has
already moved on and doesn't care about Dad as much as he does. In her grief group she made a friend named Ron. Oskar is very threatened by
Ron and thinks that Mom is replacing his father. Mom believes that not crying in front of Oskar is what was best, but he doesn't understand the
situation. They have a small argument discussing this issue. She tried to explain to Oskar what was happening when she said, "You think
because I laugh every now and then I don't miss Dad? I cry a lot, too, you know." "I don't see you cry a lot." "Maybe that's because I don't want you
to see me cry a lot." "Why not?" "Because it isn't fair to either of us" (Foer 1861). Mom hides her feelings from Oskar and seeks comfort with Ron
because he went through something fairly similar. Mom also suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. We are able to see this when Oskar goes
into her room and "touched her incredibly gently. She jumped up and said "What is it?" I said, "It's OK." She grabbed my shoulders and said,
"What is it?" The way she was holding me hurt my shoulders, but I didn't show anything" (Foer 1153). Mom's religious character is revealed when
she explains to Oskar that his father's casket is more than just an empty box because it has his spirit. Mom really did care about her husband and son.

Single Mother
"You can do anything you want to do as long as you set your mind to it and stick with it."
I remember hearing those words from my mother ever since I was a little girl. Through the years I've grown up believing in them and using them as
my inspiration. You see, there is no one I admire more than mymother.
When I was four years old, my mother and father got divorced, although he didn't live with us since I was two. At the time, my brother was only eight.
Being a single parent is a hard enough job in itself but my mother also worked full time.
Now most people who hear about this situation automatically assume that at least one if not both children ended up getting into some kind of trouble
whether with the law or something else, but in this case that never happened. My mother taught both of us about morals, goals and rules, along with
many other things. Granted my brother and I got into fights with one another, but, hey, kids will be kids.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At one point I remember clearly that I had a speech problem, and she made me practice every night over and over again until I got it right.
All in all, I feel I can talk to my mother about anything, with her acting more as a friend than a parent. I realize that not everyone has a mother like
mine, which makes me appreciate her even more. After everything she has done for me, I want to make her proud by being the first female in my family
to go to college and get a degree.

Stay At Home Mothers Or Working Mothers
STAY AT HOME MOTHERS OR WORKING MOTHERS
1. Introduction
When a child is born into a family and one also have to look for the household expenses such as a mortgage, one needs to choose between either
continuing working full time or staying at home. Statistics show that the number of working mothers is declining and trends are shifting to
stay–at–home mothers. Employment figures for married mothers with children under the age of 6 have declined about 7% to 10% since the peak
years of 1997 to 2000, depending on the income group. Overall, the work participation rate for all women dropped 1.5% from 2000 to 2004,
according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is significant because, for four decades, women 's labor participation rates consistently increased
from 40.8% in 1970 to 57.5% in 2000. In a 2005 study, the U.S. Census Bureau reported around 5.6 million stay–at–home moms. This is a 22% rise
from 1994.
In the past, women were encouraged to work however now it is considered more of a status to sit at home with kids. (WebMD, [no date])

2.1. Benefits
Though the kids are important for the mother, she will also want to have a career, connect with the community at large and need intellectual stimulation.
The child in day care will have a lot of other kids and the babysitter around. This will make him/her learn doing things for himself/herself better, earlier
and easier. (parenting, ([no date])

Introduction Couple go through a discussion on how they should raise their children. Parenting style in countries such as China, Japan, and Korea have
different views than Western's parenting style in the United States. In recent years, a term Tiger Mother has brought an idea that these mothers have a

Lonely Mother
Motherhood is lonesome. According to many women, being a mother is so demanding that a mother hardly finds time to visit friends or even family
members. Daisy Mckinney is a thirty–one–year–old resident of Aurora in Arapahoe County, Colorado. I have known Daisy for about three years now
since we both live in the same neighborhood, but we rarely meet. When we do, she always grumbled of being lonely and busy. Her husband has just
been transferred to another state, and this has exacerbated her situation. I decided to pay her a visit to understand her predicaments because she seemed

She has to take care of everything at home because she does not have a house–help. She dreads that she might suffer from depression, but she does not
sound like she was depressed at all. Sometimes she gets frustrated and angry, but knowing that she has somebody to look after, she endeavors to move
on, hoping that things will change in the future. Even when loneliness creeps up her heart and make her feel sorry wishing that something different
would happen to transform her current situation, Daisy always look forward for the time that her husband would rejoin them and live as a complete
family. She longs for the time that she would be seeing her husband every day, in addition to visiting her siblings whenever she has time.
Consequently, Daisy conceded that sometimes she envy single women because they are always free to do whatever pleases them. They can call
anyone in case they feel lonely, can drop by McDonalds and buy supper rather than cook in the house. Single women, she claimed, can leave the house
anytime for a night–out as long as it is safe. They can also go for holidays without caring about children, and can find time to sneak to their neighbors
for a chat. This is almost impossible for a married woman, who has to seek permission from her husband, besides hiring somebody to take care of the

Mother 's Reservation Of A Mother
I find disappointing though that Ramatoulaye does not seem to have the intuitiveness of a mother. Addressing her dead husband, she recalls her
mother's reservation about him, "she often spoke of the wide gap between your two upper incisors: the sign of the primacy of sensuality in the
individual" (14). Her mother is intuitive enough to know that in the long run, Modou is a bad choice for her just by looking at his denture. But after
twenty years of mothering, Ramatoulaye cannot even tell that her daughter is pregnant. She therefore becomes the (m) other in her relationship with
her children. As much as she tries to control everything in their lives – an indication of an internalized patriarchal norm – she is the other person in
their lives instead of a mother. It takes persistent nag of Farmata, her griot neighbor to convince her that her daughter, Aissatou is pregnant. She makes
the effort to find out about the pregnancy just because she is "worried about the relentless repetition" (81) of her neighbor. She however learns from
her mistake of being negligent and ends up a true mother. She prepares her daughter for marriage and motherhood. She also teaches her other children
how to live responsibly while allowing them to chart the course of their lives.

met. You are always compassionate towards those that are close to you, but also to people you don't know. You are also on the most patient
person. Whether it is helping me with homework, a friend situation, or I just need someone to count on, I know I can always count on you
regardless of the time or place. With patience comes the dreadful task of being a good listener, but you never fail to amaze me in that aspect as
well. You never put me down and always act as my sounding board. You always try to guide in the right direction, and be a supporter of anything in
my life. You believe in me and aid me in having confidence in myself. Not a day goes by that I don't think you are the most amazing woman in the

Eulogy For Mother
You are such a special woman. I thank God everyday for bringing you into my life. You are truly a blessing, and I am grateful for our friendship.
Your smile, your energy, your kindness are just a few of the reasons I love you.
Since I can remember, as a very young man, I've always valued the happiness of family, and wanted my own someday. I wanted a big family, and
loved being around relatives and their families. It was how I was raised, what my parents enforced as most important and it defined me.
Sadly, I never found that true love, that one special woman who shared the same dream. So years passed, and even though I've always held on to that
dream, it never became a reality.
It wasn't until I drifted away from you, that I realized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And, I'm willing and deserve to go through exactly the pain I caused you.
You are everything I've ever wanted in a woman, a best friend, partner and lover. I would walk through fire to get to you.
You are absolutely right, in that it's going to take some time and space for you to make a transition back to me.
Baby, I know you've been processing through so much the last few months, and especially the last several weeks.
God reminds me daily to be patient and understanding of your needs, until you are ready. My prayers continue to ask him for strength and guidance for
both of us, showing us the way back into each other's hearts.
I ask him to give you the ability for vision and feeling to enter inside my heart and mine, so that you can see for yourself, the sincerity and truth.
I also thank him for renewing my faith in him.
There are many reasons why we are still part of each other's life, and why we both can't let go. The feelings, the signs, the ever present thought of each
other are telling us we are meant to be together.
We will always be there for each other, with no doubts, no

Mother : My Mother
Mom Ever since I was small I remember telling my mom I had always looked up to her because of everything she did. My mom would always tell me
stories of herself when she was small and I realized how lucky I was to get most of the things I wanted as I kid. I remember her always telling me that
she wanted me to take care of her just like she was taking care of me when I was older. "Mom I promise when I'm older I'll get you the biggest car and
house you've always wanted" I would tell my mom every night when she would come to my room to put me in bed. My mom and dad had always
had their differences for as long as I can remember. My parents had been happily married for most of their lives until my sisters and I were older. Even

Having my dad gone made it harder for me as a child because I never really had much of a father figure in my life. This led me to look up to my
mom more than anyone else because she helped me achieve my goals and aspirations. Sometimes she would have to play the role of my dad
because he wasn't always available for us. For example, one day in eighth grade we had a Father's Day party and it had been a while since I had
talked to my dad. My mom decided to come in and make sure I didn't feel left out. I looked around to see if anyone had their mothers with them but
I had felt like an outcast. I was the only person with their dad not there and I remember feeling a sharp pain in my throat so I ran towards the
bathroom breaking down. What had I done... was it selfish of me to just leave her like that without thinking about how she felt? My mom was
always there for me and I had been pushing her away. She was way more than just my mom, she was my best friend, I knew that I could always
depend on her for everything. No matter how hard my life had been she always there to listen and to make sure I was okay. Walking back into class
and holding myself up, knowing I had embarrassed myself and mom. Instant regret had filled through my body, I felt ashamed of myself. "I didn't
feel like I belonged," I told my mom as I looked down. That moment the room went quiet and my mom took me outside to talk to me. "I know it's

Importance of Mother
The Importance of the Presence of the Mother During the First Three Years Organized by Sheila Kippley (February 28, 2005)
Purpose Mothers have told me that they have been influenced by those experts and writers who state that the presence of the mother during the early
years is extremely important to their child's optimal development. This knowledge has helped them to make decisions that enable them to remain with
their children or at least cut back on their hours away from their little ones. There are many different views on how to raise children, but this is not the
place to have a discussion on parenting issues. Many experts and ordinary persons agree that the mother plays an important role in the development of
her child, emotionally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"A baby must have a mother, a mother who is mature enough to attend to its needs and provide so–called object constancy for a minimum of three
years... The mothering function is one of the most important of all human events but, unfortunately, one of the least appreciated or regarded by society."
Harold Voth, M.D., Medical Times, November 1980.
"Let me once again emphasize that the natural transitions between sexual intercourse, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and early childhood form a
cohesive physiological basis for the development of maternal–infant attachment as it gradually progresses from conception to weaning in the second
or third year of life. No amount of technology will improve on this biologically determined pattern that was set in place by a personal Creator, nor can
anything that is artificially produced fully replace the spiritual significance and the emotional satisfaction that these experiences can produce in a
woman's life."
Debra Evans, Heart & Home, p. 133.
"In the first three years of life every human being undergoes yet a second birth, in which he is born as a psychological being possessing selfhood and
separate identity. The quality of self an infant achieves in those crucial three years will profoundly affect all of his subsequent existence."

How do the personal experiences from Mother to son, and Home shape their values, and others? These are two great examples of how personal
experiences shape values.
In "Home" a man is teaching his son about why smoking is bad and why he had wished someone had told him that. As he explains this, he thinks
back to personal experiences with this type of thing. "He pictured his Seryozha with a huge cigar, a yard long, in the midst of clouds of tobacco
smoke, and this caricature made him smile; at the same time, the grave, troubled face of the governess called up Memories of the long past,
half–forgotten time when smoking aroused in his teachers."

The Story Of My Mother And Mothers In My Life
One of the hardest points in my life started in 2015. I had just turned fifteen years old and I felt like my world was crumbling because I had just
found out that my parents were getting divorced. Now, at first, it did not really hit me because my parents, ever since i was a little girl, were
always splitting up and then getting back together 3 months later, but it was different this time.(75) In order to understand the whole story, here is
some background on my mom and dad's relationship. My dad, Oscar, was an alcoholic for as long as I could remember. He would always come
home with two to three tall cans of beer and then he would drink some short cans right after and it never occurred to me that it was abnormal to drink
so much because I was little and did not know any better. I did not know then, but now I know that my parents would constantly fight over my dad's
drinking problem. He was always in denial thinking that he was okay ,but my mom would tell him different. This went on for years until my dad was
caught in a hit–and–run. He was buzzed and did not see that the motorcyclist had stopped in front of him and he hit the man and took off. My dad was
arrested and incarcerated for about 10 months. (161) Now my mom, Sonia, she is the strongest woman I know. She would work four–to–midnight
shifts so she could take us to school in the mornings and pick us up after school. She was supporting 3 kids on her own and paying all of the bills.
I never realized how hard that must have been until I thought about it years later. After the 10 months was over and my dad came home, he took
AA classes and he stopped drinking for a whole year. After that year, on occasion he would drink maybe 1 or 2 short cans, but that was rarely. I was
proud of my dad. He was changing for the better and I could tell that my mom and dad's relationship was getting better. So once my mom and dad got
back on their feet again, they bought our first house. I have to say that I felt our family was inseparable. (156)
My dad was always working so I barely got to see him during the day, I would see him for about 30 minutes before I went to bed every night and that
was it. One day I realized my dad was coming home with a black plastic bag and I

Mom And Babies Program : Mothers And Mothers
MOM AND BABIES PROGRAM
Mom and Babies Program
Incarcerated Pregnant Women A growing number of pregnant incarcerated women and their soon to be born children now have an innovative option,
often referred to as the Mom and Babies program, which puts precedence on the long term outcome of the pair. The positive result of this program
over the last 5 years has encouraged several other departments to develop a similar one. The main purpose of the establishment of such a program is an
attempt to strengthen family structure in hopes that this would be an effective way to reduce recidivism. Although quite new, the results have shown a
promising future for the continuation of this program. Prison nurseries started in 1902, in New York, but the next nursery would not be built until
much later, in 1994, in Nebraska. Since the 1990s the idea of prison nurseries has become more widely accepted and at least 7 new facilities have
opened. Over the more recent years, programs have been formed to build a network of support for moms and babies. The push behind this, perhaps,
had to do with the rise of the prison population of parents as stated by Herman (2001) "The number of children with incarcerated parents rose 60
percent in the 1990s and by 1999, affected one of every 50 children. The prison population grew at nearly that time pace 62 percent–during that
period...Of the nation's 72 million minor children (up to age 17), an estimated 2 percent had incarcerated parents" (p.128).

people want to be in community with me.

easy or made life comfortable, and instead chose to do what you thought was right. You have shown me what is looks like to lay down your life for

Mother Essay : My Mother
My Mom Moms are the most special and pure beings in the world. They are that being who gives everything for love, for her home, for her children
and grandchildren. The mother is such a blessed woman that she endures so many things for the sake of her children, while many times we are
ungrateful to them, assuming that our mothers will always be there for us.
When moms still there with you, it is fortunate to have her, because the kind of love she gives is the purest you can ever find. My mom, for example,
is very special to me, since she has taught me how to live and how to value things in life. She has always been present at all times and has not spent a

She always encourages me to work hard, stay focus and never give up. She has been a great example of how to be an excellent mother and wife. What I
admire most about her is that when I was a baby she used to work everyday and I am surprised that she always had time for me and her work, I mean
that working and taking care of a baby is very difficult. Everyday she gets up to work, to be sure that I have everything I need. She's a mother and wife
focused on giving her family the best of her. If my family were in need, she would do whatever it takes to get what is needed.
Another reason why my mother is very special is because she always makes space and takes time to go to my volleyball games. She sometimes has
to drive three or four hours and stay in a hotel just to be present in my games. She gets really involved in the game, she cheers a lot, and she is my
number one cheerleader. My mom sometimes takes goodies to treat my teammates. They all respect and love her because how she treats everyone
on the team. She gets excited and has a lot of fun in my games. I'm thankful for what my mom has done for me. Everyday she's looking for different
ways to improve my lifestyle. The sacrifices she has to make to help me move forward is something I will never be able to pay her back. There's
nothing better than share with her my challenges and achievements. I always ask God to bless me allowing me to have

Home Mothers And Working Mothers
Participants:
The participants included two working mothers and two stay–at–home mothers within the ages of 20–35. All the participants I found were close friends
or acquaintances but the hardest part was to find stay at home mothers. The method used for my research was interview questions. I asked five
questions for each mother, two separate sets of questions for stay–at–home mothers and working mothers. The first participant was a thirty–two year
old, full–time working mother who is also currently enrolled at Sacramento State has three children. The second participant was a twenty–two year old,
who is a full–time mother working at a dental office in Stockton, CA. She is a long–time friend who has a three–year old boy. The third participant a
twenty–six year old, is a stay–at–home mother with two boys, ages three and four. My last participant was my sister's best friend, a stay–at–home
mother, but also a part–time student with two boys, a ten year old and a five year old. Three of the mothers that I interviewed were single with only one
that has a husband.
Findings:
Some of the major findings about stay–at–home mothers were that there weren't very many to interview. The majority of the people that I socialize
with are either part–time mothers or full–time working mothers. For my research I decided to choose two stay–at–home mothers that had no part–time
job. I also found that stay–at–home mothers main motivation is their children, staying home with their children gave

The Girl And Mother In My Mother By Jamaica Kincaid
In the story "My Mother" Jamaica Kincaid shows the reader that the girl has an obsession with her mother. The mother has a power over the girl
throughout the book. The girl looks back onto when she was younger and misses her relationship that she had with her mother. The author shows this
through intensely lyrical images and showing the problematic intimacy between the girl and her mother.
The mother of the girl in the book was only mentioned a few times up until the story called My Mother. The story My Mother focused on the
relationship between the girl and mother. One of the main thing that is focused on is the girl's obsession with her mother. In the first sentence on of
the story "My Mother" the girl says, "Immediately on wishing my mother dead and seeing the pain it caused her, I was sorry and cried so many
tears that all earth around me was drenched," (Kincaid 53). This shows the reader that the girl doesn't want to cause her mother pain, and just wishing
it upon her makes the girl very upset. The obsession between the girl and her mother is very strong. The girl says "My mother and I now watched
each other carefully, always making sure to shower the other with words and deeds of love and affection." (Kincaid 54). The love between the girl and
the mother is very strong and that is all that the girl wants from her mother. The girl is more than obsessed with her mother she also relies on her
mother. The girl says "My mother and I were standing on the seabed side by side, my arms laced loosely around her waist, my head resting securely
on her shoulder, as if I needed the support." (Kincaid 55). This shows the reader that the girl wants to be really close to her mother and expects her
mother to support her throughout her life.
The girl isn't just obsessed with her mother she also doesn't want to grow up and leave her mother. The girl uses what seem life flashbacks to talk
about how she became independent from her mother. The girl knows that her mother won't always be there to support her, but she doesn't want to
accept that fact. The girl knew one day that she would have to grow up and become a woman, but she didn't expect it coming. The girl says "I lay on
her bosom, breathless, for a time uncomfortable,

My Mother And Mother
My mother was my primary caregiver throughout all of my childhood. While my father was in the picture for a majority of my childhood, he was
also a severe alcoholic which greatly impacted my upbringing. My rules, obligations, and expectations were not always set in stone and did often
depend on the time, situation, and/or mood of my parents. I think it is normal for parents to differ slightly in their parenting styles occasionally. As a
young kid I remember my sister and I being very aware that the mood my mother was in greatly contributed to the outcome of a question or event. I
think most, if not all of us can relate to this. Overall however, I would say that my mother had an authoritative parenting style. My mother made is very
clear that she was the parent and in charge, however she was welcoming and understanding enough that I felt comfortable coming to her with
questions or problems. My mom was also very encouraging and supportive. She always pushed me to do my best but never made me feel bad if I
did not reach my goals. I was lucky to have such a great relationship with my mom, not everyone does. As a young teenager I had many friends who
would come to me with questions and concerns because they knew my mom was so open–minded and understanding. My mom was always my parent
first and my friend second. I knew what was expected of me and I was disciplined for bad behavior, however I always knew I could go to her with
anything I needed.

The first footsteps we've ever taken are the ones that have imprinted the inside of our mothers' stomachs. Mothers don't just give birth to us, they give
us a life to live. Now, some might say mothers are supposed to give birth; it's a natural process that is their duty. It's physically straining to have a
child, but it takes a true warrior to raise a child. It is often forgotten how much they continuously provide for us and how many sacrifices they make. My
mother has been my inspiration, not because of her title as my mother but because she is the prime example of a what I call a hero. If someone
asked me ten years ago why my mother was my hero, I wouldn't have been able to give them a proper response. As I grew older, and as my jolly
world made of gum drops and sunshine were fading away, I realized how much my mother had put up with. Dealing with horrid family– crushing

Why Chinese Mothers are superior
Every parent wants to be proud of their children, to see them succeed in school, music, sports or whatever path they may choose. The professor and
the author Amy Chua wrote the essay "Why Chinese mothers are superior", where she tries to compare western parents to Chinese mothers and their
different methods of raising children. Plenty of the people reading this essay may get the wrong idea and misunderstand, when Amy Chua tries to
present Western parents as bad parents who don't know how to raise successful children. This is not her intension with the essay. Amy Chua
emphasizes in her article that Chinese parents are good and capable at raising stereotypically successful children. (p. 1 l. 11). The ... Show more content

In almost the beginning of the essay Amy Chua appeals to logos when showing the studies. By appealing to logos, she 's trying to convince the reader,
that she knows what she is talking about and have a great understanding about the topic.
The concept Chinese mothers have become common property in the USA in very short time. It 's obviously because Amy Chua and her philosophy
about parenting, hits a sore point in the Americans consciousness. Amy Chua 's essay isn 't a how–to–raise–a–successful–child guide, but it is an
informing essay that mentions the nuanced examples between two cultures on how to raise successful children. You can discuss whether life is all
about being successful and being perfect in many ways, because the reader might hold on the question "So what about happiness?", as it hasn't even
one time been mentioned in the essay. The wondering of this matter lies within the historical perspective, the different societies, generations and
traditions that haven't changed. Important is to remember that these conflicts and disagreements on how to raise children do not only revolve around
China, where some people in general might use methods which seems strange and unlikely. Same goes for USA, the many cultural perspectives and the
whole world.

This is my first assignment for Physiological Psychology. The first section of this paper critiques an article entitled "Infants of Depressed Mothers,

Parents use the high speech tone to catch the child's attention so they can increase their surrounding perception and important word associations.
Depressed mothers are less likely to engage with their children. Infants of depressed mothers are competent learners, but they fail to acquire
associations in response to stimulation provided by their mothers. Children of depressed mothers show more negatively affect and become behaviorally

When you read throughout the novel the role of motherhood is not perfectly described or shown in it. In a perfect world motherhood is seen not as a
last option but rather as a highly honored character. Contrary, in the novel Sula mothers are not a role model that their kids can look up to. Mothers
play an important part in child's life, influencing on how they view different understandings in the world and setting up values in their child. Every
individual's life is formed by personal relationships they have with others. Mother–child relationship is one of the relationships that greatly affect the

Thus, their purpose was to be unlike their moms. In this essay I will specify the roles and the discontinuity of the mothers and their children's
relationship as well as their love and intimate behaviors towards their children which most of the mothers in the novel lacked.
In order to illustrate my first point, in this novel we can face many bad moms who they did not care about their children and left them at the
moment when they most needed their mother. Also, when it comes to death, a mother is never able to kill her own child out of love no matter
what. Nonetheless, in this novel there is a time when killing becomes an option for a mother to release her child from pain. For example, Eva who
was the mother of Hannah left their three children after her husband had left them with no money. She supposed to stay with her kids, but she left
them for over a year saying that she was making money. It is not a relevant way to leave your kids to make money. After she came back she had lost

Saint Anne, The Mother Of Mary And The Mother Of Jesus

  • 1. Saint Anne, The Mother Of Mary And The Mother Of Jesus Saint Anne is easily identified as the Mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus. Saint Anne was Palestinian, but born in Bethlehem (Asselin; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). Sacred scripture does not "mention... Mary's parents", but "there is not a total lack of information about" them. Some sources believe that Saint Anne could not have children (Asselin; Holweck; "Saint Anne"; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica) . Because of this, she and her husband, Saint Joachim, made many sacrifices and prayed to God for the gift of a child ("Saint Anne"). "The Protoevangelium of James" states that "an angel appeared to..." them, saying that Saint Anne would "conceive and bear a child who would become famous throughout the world" regardless of her old age (Asselin; Holweck; "Saint Anne."; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). St. Joachim and St. Anne are Jesus's grandparents and belong, in a sense, to the "Holy Family" (Asselin). They are often referred to as a holy model by Christian couples (Asselin). "After Jesus and Mary, St. Anne is one of the subjects that appears most frequently in iconography" (Asselin). Saint Anne's feast day is celebrated on "July 26th" (Asselin; Holweck; "Saint Anne."; The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). While there are no eye–witness descriptions of Saint Anne's active engagement in her faith, her devotion to God is displayed through her actions and role as a mother. Saint Anne is the patron saint of many different aspects of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Mother and Parent Daniel Pelayo Professor Nathifa Tomb English 1B 6 March 2013 The Ideal Parent: Brightening a Childs Future Parenting is a big part of every ones lives; it makes up who you are as a person and in many cases projects who you will be in the future. Some adults have trouble manipulating their children and teaching them what is right from wrong, while others have a much easier time doing so. In my opinion there is no such thing as "the perfect parent", both the mother and the father have their flaws, but what matters is that the parent is always there for personal support. To me a good parent is someone who is always there to support there children in both good and bad terms, and a responsible adult that can supply for their kids necessities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The father is un–employed and the mother is making the same amount as her teenage daughter. This shows a lack of responsibility coming from both parents because at this age the parents should be concerned about the daughter going to school and both parents should have a job accounted for. The irresponsibility's of the parents can affect a child from a young age, not only does it complicates the life of the kid, but the parents do a poor job of teaching a child the values of being responsible. One parent shows responsibilities for their kids while the other parent shows no remorse for her daughter. Finally, being a leader and a hard worker not only in your children's lives but also in society is what makes a huge difference between a great parent and a mediocre parent. Showing a child the values of leadership and hard work can make a kids future that much better. A parent that holds these two characteristics and is able to put them to use in society will not only be a great example for their kids, but a superb example of a great parent. In the poem "Those Winter Sundays", Hayden illustrates the hard work and leadership this father puts in for the family to have a nice comfortable living. "Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him." (1–5) This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Being A Mother : My Life Of My Mother My mother is the most diligent worker I know and I highly respect her for that. My mom, sister, and I moved across the globe to find better opportunities for jobs and Education. She worked two jobs as a single mother, and was still able to take care of and support my sister and me in anything we aspired to do. Being a mother itself is difficult enough because it is an everyday job with no brakes or vacation. She is the person who inspires me and the person who motivates me to do my best at everything I do. To her, my sister and I's happiness was worth more to her than her own and for that I truly believe she is the best person in the world. Even when things get hard for her, she does not take time out for herself. During the death of my grandfather, she had no time to grieve over him because she told us that she has work to keep my sister and I fed and happy. That was when I realized that if she is going through all the gruelling effort just to keep me and my sister happy, then my goal in life would just to give back to her by making her proud of me. With her as my motivation I joined things that would make her proud. Freshmen year, I auditioned for thehigh school traveling band, which was a truly challenging band to get into. I was one of only six freshmen to get in. Joining that band allowed me to experience my first time traveling with the school across the country to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York, one of the most prestigious halls to perform in the world. • 4. Pecola's Mother "fear of life" (100). Pauline has always despised her daughter, when she sees Pecola just after her birth, she remarks: "Head full of pretty hair but Lord she was ugly" (98). But she (Pauline) cares for the infant she takes care of then feels ashamed of her child and abuses her, like attacking her when she unintentionally spills a blueberry pie at the Fishers. Pauline fails utterly as a mother when she distrusts Pecola's account of the first time her father rapes her. Her disbelief prevents her from protecting her daughter, who will be sexually assaulted again. Similarly, Pecola's father, Cholly, who has endured devastating experiences in his life, is incapable of fatherly behavior. He is neglectful and abusive with his children. As an oppressed ... • 5. Eulogy For Mother When I was growing up, my mother babysat for money. My earliest memories have always been of the local kids who spent their afternoons at our home, my mother the ringmaster of our own little circus. As fun as that was for our family, it just wasn't enough to make ends meet. We needed better healthcare and a retirement for my mother, without her having to sacrifice her love of being with children. She started at my sisters elementary, slowly going from volunteer to Instructional Assistant as she fell in love with her job. The kids meant everything to her and finding a job that allowed her that was unparalleled in its importance to us. • 6. Mother In Sundiata The Significant Role of Mothers in the Development of their Children Over the years, the role of mother in the life of their children has been crucial and prominent. The child's first education starts at home with their mother. The mother teaches the child how to walk, how to talk, and how to become a strong man or woman in the society. Some mothers will even stop going to work in order to take care of their kids so that they can be a better person and a good citizen. Mothers also sacrifices their time, wants and desire to benefit their child, they serve as protection and stability for their children. Mothers build up the strength in their children to make them fulfill their goals, and to be a better citizen. In the story of "Sundiata", two mothers are said to play a significant role in the life of their children. The mothers are Sogolon (sundiata's mother), and Sassouma (Dankaran Touman's mother). The mothers in the story of "Sundiata" influence the life and development of their children by changing destiny, providing protection and building up their children's strength. ... But his mother, been a wicked and selfish mother changed her son's destiny by convincing the kingmaker that Sundiata will not be a good king, and the king maker made her son the king. After he had reign for some years, he was defeated by Soumaoro, the sorcerer king. From this perspective, it is obvious that ruling people, and being a leader is not his way because ruling people, and being a leader is not his destiny, but his mother changed ... Mom, you are an amazing woman and I don't know how you manage to balance everything in life, but in my eyes, you balance everything so well. I felt like you deserved to hear this because I never knew how proud you were of me until I heard your co–workers tell me about how you talk their heads off about me. I'm glad that you are so proud of me because it means so much to me. I know I have made some mistakes in the past that disappointed you, but it so great to hear that you are actually proud of me. • 8. Eulogy For Mother April, 26 2012 my dad died. I believe it was the month of December when my mom sat me down and told me. I will forget this night, We got Popeye's for dinner and she usually didn't sit at the dinner table with me but this night she did. I remember her sitting directly across from me staring and smiling, I could tell something was up. Then she told me Papi has liver cancer, and the doctors say he has a few months left but we're not gonna go by what the doctors say we're going by what the good lord says! At this time I was 12 so it didn't really know how serious I should of been taking it. I remember I felt like crying but I didn't want my mom to know I was scared, so I tried to hold back my tears. The thing is when he was battling with this I never really thought about the fact that he would die, I just thought he would get better and everything would be fine.... So one night we were at the hospital very late and when I got home I went straight to sleep, and forgot all about my homework. The next day at school I went to math class and when it was time for her to check the homework I asked if I could talk to her in the hall. When we were in the hall I was crying so much, the hallways were flooding not literally. I explained to her my situation and she understood and asked me if I wanted to go to the guidance counselor's office but I declined. But after April 26 the guidance counselor's office was basically my 2nd home. Of course I remember April 26, I remember it just as if it was yesterday. • 9. Argumentative Essay On The Mother Of A Mother It takes more than one person to have a child. The mother does carry the baby through a long nine months, but she does need help sometimes. The father has his own special way to care for his newborn. When a baby comes into the world it needs a lot of care and attention. This is a lot of pressure on the mother all alone. This is why fathers need to get paternity leave along with his wife or mother of his child. There are biological, legal, and even moral reasons why a father should have time off to spend with his new baby. They say a woman becomes a mother when she finds out that she is expecting, and a man becomes a father the first time he holds his baby. After a month a baby is able to tell apart his or her mom and dad. For decades, psychologists and other researchers assumed that the mother–child bond was the most important bond in a child's life. Within the last several decades scientists are increasingly realizing just how much dads matter. Just like women, fathers' bodies respond to parenthood, and their parenting style affects their kids just as much, and sometimes more, than mom's. When one person is at home with a new baby and the other remains at work, they can start living in different worlds and have less to talk about. The stay–at–home mom wants to discuss the baby's milestones and the working dad, while interested, misses their dinner conversations about the workplace. If parents can afford to take maternity and paternity leave simultaneously, it can benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Eulogy Of A Mother Mother Dearest, You were alive for 19 years of my life, but I only had you for 16 to 17 years of my life. While you there psychically, you were not there mentally or emotionally. I spent my entire life being my own cheerleader. You couldn't provide me with the type of support I needed. You never could and in the end, you never did. I spent my entire childhood being a mini adult. I spent it being a parent to myself, my siblings and to you; my own mother. I gave up on making friends because I felt it was selfish of me to do so when I was needed so badly at home. The times I did get the courage enough to make friends I would go to their houses and I would boil with envy and jealousy. Their parents while very loose with their rules and many of my friends being very unruly children. None the less they were still parents. I often at times felt as though you were my peer and not my mother. I often at times felt betrayed by you because you were supposed to care for me and instead I spend my days caring for you and looking after you and your broken hearts that the many men of your past left in a shatter pile. ... These demons and monsters are merely human themselves, but they are so dark and twisted and hunger to hurt all things pure and innocent. Plucked from your womb with no knowledge of the dangers of this world, and thrown into the chaos of this world, I was the perfect prey. Small and on wobbly knees as a newborn foal I sought your arms. How am I going to raise FIVE children, all by myself? I am assuming those were questions my mom asked herself when I was born. I do not know how she accomplished it, but I know she raised five children, practically, on her own. And by doing so she inspired us all that we can defeat the obstacles life throws at us even if they seem impossible or difficult at the time. My mother eloped extremely young, which was not uncommon because she lived in Somalia. The happiness she eloped for was turned into deceit and heartache. My father, who is about five years older than my mom, cheated on her, twice. The first time she forgave him but, the second time well, that was the last straw. The second time, around the same time I was born, my mom was so furious that my father had to leave the house and he was not allowed to see me. After weeks of separation, they finally attained a divorce and after that I rarely saw my mom. Once my father was out of the picture, my mom had to be the man and woman of the house. When she was not in the house cleaning or cooking, she was out selling clothing and other merchandise. And when I say she was selling products, I do not mean she had a store. My mother would go out, carrying all her products on her back, and going door to door trying to make profit so she can provide for us. The only times my mother was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Oskar's Mother Oskar's mother remains unnamed throughout the story and is referred to as "Mom". Her husband, Thomas Schell Jr., recently passed away in the 9/11 terrorist attack. She hasn't dealt his death easily, nor has Oskar. Although Mom is attempting to help Oskar cope with his father's death, Oskar believes that "if she could have chosen, it would have been my [Oskar's] funeral we were driving to" (Foer 141). She only wants what is best for Oskar, however their already tense relationship became worse after her husband's death. For most of the story, Mom seems like a bad parent due to the fact that she never asks where Oskar is going when he leaves the apartment. However, at the end of the book we learn a lot about Mom that we never would have expected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She rarely cries in front of Oskar and attends a grief group without Oskar knowing. Oskar, however, thinks that because she isn't crying, she has already moved on and doesn't care about Dad as much as he does. In her grief group she made a friend named Ron. Oskar is very threatened by Ron and thinks that Mom is replacing his father. Mom believes that not crying in front of Oskar is what was best, but he doesn't understand the situation. They have a small argument discussing this issue. She tried to explain to Oskar what was happening when she said, "You think because I laugh every now and then I don't miss Dad? I cry a lot, too, you know." "I don't see you cry a lot." "Maybe that's because I don't want you to see me cry a lot." "Why not?" "Because it isn't fair to either of us" (Foer 1861). Mom hides her feelings from Oskar and seeks comfort with Ron because he went through something fairly similar. Mom also suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. We are able to see this when Oskar goes into her room and "touched her incredibly gently. She jumped up and said "What is it?" I said, "It's OK." She grabbed my shoulders and said, "What is it?" The way she was holding me hurt my shoulders, but I didn't show anything" (Foer 1153). Mom's religious character is revealed when she explains to Oskar that his father's casket is more than just an empty box because it has his spirit. Mom really did care about her husband and son. • 13. Single Mother "You can do anything you want to do as long as you set your mind to it and stick with it." I remember hearing those words from my mother ever since I was a little girl. Through the years I've grown up believing in them and using them as my inspiration. You see, there is no one I admire more than mymother. When I was four years old, my mother and father got divorced, although he didn't live with us since I was two. At the time, my brother was only eight. Being a single parent is a hard enough job in itself but my mother also worked full time. Now most people who hear about this situation automatically assume that at least one if not both children ended up getting into some kind of trouble whether with the law or something else, but in this case that never happened. My mother taught both of us about morals, goals and rules, along with many other things. Granted my brother and I got into fights with one another, but, hey, kids will be kids.... Introduction When a child is born into a family and one also have to look for the household expenses such as a mortgage, one needs to choose between either continuing working full time or staying at home. Statistics show that the number of working mothers is declining and trends are shifting to stay–at–home mothers. Employment figures for married mothers with children under the age of 6 have declined about 7% to 10% since the peak years of 1997 to 2000, depending on the income group. Overall, the work participation rate for all women dropped 1.5% from 2000 to 2004, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is significant because, for four decades, women 's labor participation rates consistently increased from 40.8% in 1970 to 57.5% in 2000. In a 2005 study, the U.S. Census Bureau reported around 5.6 million stay–at–home moms. This is a 22% rise from 1994. In the past, women were encouraged to work however now it is considered more of a status to sit at home with kids. (WebMD, [no date]) 2. Working mothers 2.1. Parenting style in countries such as China, Japan, and Korea have different views than Western's parenting style in the United States. In recent years, a term Tiger Mother has brought an idea that these mothers have a strict parenting philosophy that incorporates firm parental control and high standards for excellence (Chua, 2011). According to many women, being a mother is so demanding that a mother hardly finds time to visit friends or even family members. Daisy Mckinney is a thirty–one–year–old resident of Aurora in Arapahoe County, Colorado. I have known Daisy for about three years now since we both live in the same neighborhood, but we rarely meet. Even when loneliness creeps up her heart and make her feel sorry wishing that something different would happen to transform her current situation, Daisy always look forward for the time that her husband would rejoin them and live as a complete family. She longs for the time that she would be seeing her husband every day, in addition to visiting her siblings whenever she has time. Consequently, Daisy conceded that sometimes she envy single women because they are always free to do whatever pleases them. They can call anyone in case they feel lonely, can drop by McDonalds and buy supper rather than cook in the house. Single women, she claimed, can leave the house anytime for a night–out as long as it is safe. • 20. Mother 's Reservation Of A Mother I find disappointing though that Ramatoulaye does not seem to have the intuitiveness of a mother. Addressing her dead husband, she recalls her mother's reservation about him, "she often spoke of the wide gap between your two upper incisors: the sign of the primacy of sensuality in the individual" (14). Her mother is intuitive enough to know that in the long run, Modou is a bad choice for her just by looking at his denture. But after twenty years of mothering, Ramatoulaye cannot even tell that her daughter is pregnant. She therefore becomes the (m) other in her relationship with her children. As much as she tries to control everything in their lives – an indication of an internalized patriarchal norm – she is the other person in their lives instead of a mother. It takes persistent nag of Farmata, her griot neighbor to convince her that her daughter, Aissatou is pregnant. She makes the effort to find out about the pregnancy just because she is "worried about the relentless repetition" (81) of her neighbor. She however learns from her mistake of being negligent and ends up a true mother. She prepares her daughter for marriage and motherhood. She also teaches her other children how to live responsibly while allowing them to chart the course of their lives. Mothering is a lifetime commitment, from the cradle to the grave perhaps and not just caring for a child. This knowledge has helped them to make decisions that enable them to remain with their children or at least cut back on their hours away from their little ones. No amount of technology will improve on this biologically determined pattern that was set in place by a personal Creator, nor can anything that is artificially produced fully replace the spiritual significance and the emotional satisfaction that these experiences can produce in a woman's life." • 29. The Story Of My Mother And Mothers In My Life One of the hardest points in my life started in 2015. I had just turned fifteen years old and I felt like my world was crumbling because I had just found out that my parents were getting divorced. Now, at first, it did not really hit me because my parents, ever since i was a little girl, were always splitting up and then getting back together 3 months later, but it was different this time.(75) In order to understand the whole story, here is some background on my mom and dad's relationship. My dad, Oscar, was an alcoholic for as long as I could remember. He would always come home with two to three tall cans of beer and then he would drink some short cans right after and it never occurred to me that it was abnormal to drink so much because I was little and did not know any better. I did not know then, but now I know that my parents would constantly fight over my dad's drinking problem. He was always in denial thinking that he was okay ,but my mom would tell him different. This went on for years until my dad was caught in a hit–and–run. He was buzzed and did not see that the motorcyclist had stopped in front of him and he hit the man and took off. My dad was arrested and incarcerated for about 10 months. (161) Now my mom, Sonia, she is the strongest woman I know. She would work four–to–midnight shifts so she could take us to school in the mornings and pick us up after school. She was supporting 3 kids on her own and paying all of the bills. I never realized how hard that must have been until I thought about it years later. After the 10 months was over and my dad came home, he took AA classes and he stopped drinking for a whole year. After that year, on occasion he would drink maybe 1 or 2 short cans, but that was rarely. I was proud of my dad. He was changing for the better and I could tell that my mom and dad's relationship was getting better. So once my mom and dad got back on their feet again, they bought our first house. I have to say that I felt our family was inseparable. (156) My dad was always working so I barely got to see him during the day, I would see him for about 30 minutes before I went to bed every night and that was it. • 30. Mom And Babies Program : Mothers And Mothers MOM AND BABIES PROGRAM Mom and Babies Program Incarcerated Pregnant Women A growing number of pregnant incarcerated women and their soon to be born children now have an innovative option, often referred to as the Mom and Babies program, which puts precedence on the long term outcome of the pair. The positive result of this program over the last 5 years has encouraged several other departments to develop a similar one. The main purpose of the establishment of such a program is an attempt to strengthen family structure in hopes that this would be an effective way to reduce recidivism. Although quite new, the results have shown a promising future for the continuation of this program. Prison nurseries started in 1902, in New York, but the next nursery would not be built until much later, in 1994, in Nebraska. Since the 1990s the idea of prison nurseries has become more widely accepted and at least 7 new facilities have opened. Over the more recent years, programs have been formed to build a network of support for moms and babies. The push behind this, perhaps, had to do with the rise of the prison population of parents as stated by Herman (2001) "The number of children with incarcerated parents rose 60 percent in the 1990s and by 1999, affected one of every 50 children. The prison population grew at nearly that time pace 62 percent–during that period...Of the nation's 72 million minor children (up to age 17), an estimated 2 percent had incarcerated parents" (p.128). ... What I admire most about her is that when I was a baby she used to work everyday and I am surprised that she always had time for me and her work, I mean that working and taking care of a baby is very difficult. Everyday she gets up to work, to be sure that I have everything I need. She's a mother and wife focused on giving her family the best of her. If my family were in need, she would do whatever it takes to get what is needed. Another reason why my mother is very special is because she always makes space and takes time to go to my volleyball games. She sometimes has to drive three or four hours and stay in a hotel just to be present in my games. She gets really involved in the game, she cheers a lot, and she is my number one cheerleader. My mom sometimes takes goodies to treat my teammates. They all respect and love her because how she treats everyone on the team. She gets excited and has a lot of fun in my games. I'm thankful for what my mom has done for me. Everyday she's looking for different ways to improve my lifestyle. The sacrifices she has to make to help me move forward is something I will never be able to pay her back. There's nothing better than share with her my challenges and achievements. • 34. Home Mothers And Working Mothers Participants: The participants included two working mothers and two stay–at–home mothers within the ages of 20–35. All the participants I found were close friends or acquaintances but the hardest part was to find stay at home mothers. The method used for my research was interview questions. I asked five questions for each mother, two separate sets of questions for stay–at–home mothers and working mothers. The first participant was a thirty–two year old, full–time working mother who is also currently enrolled at Sacramento State has three children. The second participant was a twenty–two year old, who is a full–time mother working at a dental office in Stockton, CA. She is a long–time friend who has a three–year old boy. The third participant a twenty–six year old, is a stay–at–home mother with two boys, ages three and four. My last participant was my sister's best friend, a stay–at–home mother, but also a part–time student with two boys, a ten year old and a five year old. Three of the mothers that I interviewed were single with only one that has a husband. Findings: Some of the major findings about stay–at–home mothers were that there weren't very many to interview. The majority of the people that I socialize with are either part–time mothers or full–time working mothers. For my research I decided to choose two stay–at–home mothers that had no part–time job. I also found that stay–at–home mothers main motivation is their children, staying home with their children gave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Girl And Mother In My Mother By Jamaica Kincaid In the story "My Mother" Jamaica Kincaid shows the reader that the girl has an obsession with her mother. The mother has a power over the girl throughout the book. The girl looks back onto when she was younger and misses her relationship that she had with her mother. The author shows this through intensely lyrical images and showing the problematic intimacy between the girl and her mother. The mother of the girl in the book was only mentioned a few times up until the story called My Mother. The story My Mother focused on the relationship between the girl and mother. One of the main thing that is focused on is the girl's obsession with her mother. In the first sentence on of the story "My Mother" the girl says, "Immediately on wishing my mother dead and seeing the pain it caused her, I was sorry and cried so many tears that all earth around me was drenched," (Kincaid 53). This shows the reader that the girl doesn't want to cause her mother pain, and just wishing it upon her makes the girl very upset. The obsession between the girl and her mother is very strong. The girl says "My mother and I now watched each other carefully, always making sure to shower the other with words and deeds of love and affection." (Kincaid 54). The love between the girl and the mother is very strong and that is all that the girl wants from her mother. The girl is more than obsessed with her mother she also relies on her mother. The girl says "My mother and I were standing on the seabed side by side, my arms laced loosely around her waist, my head resting securely on her shoulder, as if I needed the support." (Kincaid 55). This shows the reader that the girl wants to be really close to her mother and expects her mother to support her throughout her life. The girl isn't just obsessed with her mother she also doesn't want to grow up and leave her mother. The girl uses what seem life flashbacks to talk about how she became independent from her mother. The girl knows that her mother won't always be there to support her, but she doesn't want to accept that fact. The girl knew one day that she would have to grow up and become a woman, but she didn't expect it coming. The girl says "I lay on her bosom, breathless, for a time uncomfortable, ... • 36. My Mother And Mother My mother was my primary caregiver throughout all of my childhood. While my father was in the picture for a majority of my childhood, he was also a severe alcoholic which greatly impacted my upbringing. My rules, obligations, and expectations were not always set in stone and did often depend on the time, situation, and/or mood of my parents. I think it is normal for parents to differ slightly in their parenting styles occasionally. As a young kid I remember my sister and I being very aware that the mood my mother was in greatly contributed to the outcome of a question or event. I think most, if not all of us can relate to this. Overall however, I would say that my mother had an authoritative parenting style. My mother made is very clear that she was the parent and in charge, however she was welcoming and understanding enough that I felt comfortable coming to her with questions or problems. My mom was also very encouraging and supportive. She always pushed me to do my best but never made me feel bad if I did not reach my goals. I was lucky to have such a great relationship with my mom, not everyone does. As a young teenager I had many friends who would come to me with questions and concerns because they knew my mom was so open–minded and understanding. My mom was always my parent first and my friend second. I knew what was expected of me and I was disciplined for bad behavior, however I always knew I could go to her with anything I needed. • 37. My Mother: The Best Mother My mother has many wonderful traits, but there's a few that stand out. First of all, her wisdom is outstanding. She provides great advice no matter the situation. Also, I'd say she has a positive mentality. She always has this optimistic point of view for everything. Ultimately, the trait that stands out in her the most is compassion. It's incredible the way she shows compassion towards everyone. Her way of demonstrating compassion is very unique. She always puts herself in everyone else's shoes, without naming their flaws. He gave us the hospitals name and we instantly looked it up in the GPS and my mother drove us there. We quickly ran up to the floor where my brother was being treated. As soon as we saw my father sitting in the waiting room my mother ran up him to ask him what did the doctors say about my brother. He said that due to his grave condition he had to be placed in intensive care. That as soon as my brother's condition stabilized, we would be able to see him. My mother was trying to be strong, I could see it in her eyes and in the way she talked. Since time was passing by and we were already tired, my father took us to a hotel and left us there. He then went back to the hospital with my mother. Days went by and little improvement was shown, things were beginning to look good. Nurses informed us that we were able to see my brother. But only two people can be in the room at once. So both of my parents went in first. Then after a while, my brothers and I went in. He was in a bed asleep, he looked tired and exhausted. We decided to leave and let him rest. Finally, a doctor came out the door and through the hallway looking for my parents. My mother quickly stood up and asked him how was my brother doing. The doctor said that my brother had the flu and two other viruses that he had encountered most probably in the previous hospital. My mother's face was sadness in every sense ... • 38. Eulogy For Mother The first footsteps we've ever taken are the ones that have imprinted the inside of our mothers' stomachs. Mothers don't just give birth to us, they give us a life to live. Now, some might say mothers are supposed to give birth; it's a natural process that is their duty. It's physically straining to have a child, but it takes a true warrior to raise a child. It is often forgotten how much they continuously provide for us and how many sacrifices they make. My mother has been my inspiration, not because of her title as my mother but because she is the prime example of a what I call a hero. If someone asked me ten years ago why my mother was my hero, I wouldn't have been able to give them a proper response. As I grew older, and as my jolly world made of gum drops and sunshine were fading away, I realized how much my mother had put up with. Dealing with horrid family– crushing problems as a child was never easy for me and I can only imagine what it did to my mother. I watched my mother somehow withstand it every single moment. At the same time I would want her to see that hard work truly pays off. A miracle is just another word for the result of hard work. Some people are born with silver spoons in their mouth and I've seen how meaningless their lives turn out to be. My mother proved to me that your struggles make you stronger and define who you are. Struggling is almost impossible to avoid and rather than sulking about it, I'd rather use it to make me a stronger person, like my mom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Eulogy For Mother Getting ready for another picnic with my sister. Every Friday after school I pick her up in my old rusted out 68 mustang and we ride to our favorite spot, Louisville park right under the immense oak tree. Today was special, I wanted to give her the best picnic before she turned 13, being her older brother at age 18 it's hard. I don't really understand some things. She goes through guy trouble and things along those lines. I mean growing up was rough for the both of us, parents divorced right after she was born. So, I'm done packing for this very special trip and I'm so excited to see you. Pulling into the parking lots of your school and seeing the big smile on your face makes me go insanely happy. You climbed into the car all overjoyed then I told you we needed to make a quick pit stop at the grocery store. Shopping with you is difficult I got to be honest, all you want to do is buy everything. We go our separate ways and find the things we love. I turn around your gone nothing annoys me more when we must play Marco polo in the store to be able to find you, don't really feel like drawing attention to myself today. • 40. Chinese Mothers Why Chinese Mothers are superior Every parent wants to be proud of their children, to see them succeed in school, music, sports or whatever path they may choose. The professor and the author Amy Chua wrote the essay "Why Chinese mothers are superior", where she tries to compare western parents to Chinese mothers and their different methods of raising children. Plenty of the people reading this essay may get the wrong idea and misunderstand, when Amy Chua tries to present Western parents as bad parents who don't know how to raise successful children. This is not her intension with the essay. Amy Chua emphasizes in her article that Chinese parents are good and capable at raising stereotypically successful children. (p. 1 l. 11). The ... By appealing to logos, she 's trying to convince the reader, that she knows what she is talking about and have a great understanding about the topic. The concept Chinese mothers have become common property in the USA in very short time. It 's obviously because Amy Chua and her philosophy about parenting, hits a sore point in the Americans consciousness. Amy Chua 's essay isn 't a how–to–raise–a–successful–child guide, but it is an informing essay that mentions the nuanced examples between two cultures on how to raise successful children. You can discuss whether life is all about being successful and being perfect in many ways, because the reader might hold on the question "So what about happiness?", as it hasn't even one time been mentioned in the essay. The wondering of this matter lies within the historical perspective, the different societies, generations and traditions that haven't changed. Important is to remember that these conflicts and disagreements on how to raise children do not only revolve around China, where some people in general might use methods which seems strange and unlikely. Same goes for USA, the many cultural perspectives and the whole world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a perfect world motherhood is seen not as a last option but rather as a highly honored character. Contrary, in the novel Sula mothers are not a role model that their kids can look up to. Mothers play an important part in child's life, influencing on how they view different understandings in the world and setting up values in their child. Every individual's life is formed by personal relationships they have with others. Thus, their purpose was to be unlike their moms. In this essay I will specify the roles and the discontinuity of the mothers and their children's relationship as well as their love and intimate behaviors towards their children which most of the mothers in the novel lacked. In order to illustrate my first point, in this novel we can face many bad moms who they did not care about their children and left them at the moment when they most needed their mother. Also, when it comes to death, a mother is never able to kill her own child out of love no matter what. Nonetheless, in this novel there is a time when killing becomes an option for a mother to release her child from pain. For example, Eva who was the mother of Hannah left their three children after her husband had left them with no money. She supposed to stay with her kids, but she left them for over a year saying that she was making money. It is not a relevant way to leave your kids to make money. After she came back she had lost a leg. She lost interest in her kids and she did not have mercy or love for them anymore after her husband BoyBoy left because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
