What is Method ??
 Methods tend to be primarily concerned with teacher and student
role and behaviours .
 It is generalized set of classroom specifications for accomplishing
linguistics objections.
 It is a tool to reach goal.
There are some methods like :-
 Grammar Translation Method.
 The Direct Method.
 The Audio Lingual Method.
 The Silent way.
 Suggestopedia.
 Total physical Response.
 Now, I will talk about TPR and Audio Lingual Method.
Audio – Lingual Method :-
 The Audio Lingual Method was
developed in the united states
during world war II.
 At that time there was a need for
people to learn foreign languages
rapidly for Military purpose.
 It is also called as ‘ Army Method
’.
Continue .....
 It is a method of foreign language.
 It emphasized the teaching of listening and speaking before reading
and writing.
 Teacher uses dialogues to make class active.
 sometimes teacher used mimicry and action ,picture or visualisation
of particular things.
 Grammatical structure taught by Inductively or a funny way.
 This is a teaching since learning activities and materials are carefully
controlled.
 Teacher focuses on pronunciation from the beginning.
 By listening to how it is supposed to sound ,students should
be able to mimic the model.
 Sometimes,if students don’t understand properly then teacher
repeats each line several time.
 When student make mistake,it should be immediately
corrected by the teacher.
 Many times ,positive reinforces helps the students to develop
correct habits ,the teacher says very good when the student
answer is correct.
Advantages:-
 All students active in the classroom
 With the repetation of dialogue or
speaking the speaking and listening
skills are better trained.
 Students like it and take interest in
this type of activities.
 Developing the separation of the
language skills.
 Atmosphere of class was more
interesting and lively.
Disadvantages :-
 There are some Disadvantages also of this method like ;
 Teachers are simply not explained I detail.
 Grammar Skill is untrained.
 Weak basis of it’s history.
 Learners having little control over their Learning.
Total Physical Response :-
 TPR developed by James Asher ,
a Proffesor of Psychology at San
Jose’s University.
 It was a physical movement or
process by learners.
 Based on the Contradiction of
language.
TPR........
 It was a great deal to listening and acting.
 Normally, the learners use to sit near teacher or in a circle.
 Learners have to listen and then performed.
 Through this ,student should be more active and give response
quickly.
 Sometimes teacher plays the role of parent.
 Teacher is speaking phrase and also demonstrating it ,then students
also speak it with action.
 Sometimes ,teacher ask the student to repeat the action,so that they
can know about Student’s memory power.
Advantages .......
 It is funny ,interesting and Memorable
Method.
 It creates positive thinking among
children.
 Here the actions help build
connections in the brain.
 It reduces learning stress.
 It can be used in large and small
classes.
Disadvantages:-
 It is only focus on listening comprehension and
speaking
 It is only focus on listening
 It is not creative. Students are not able to express their
own view or creative idea.
 It was limited,combined with other approaches,not
explained everything with this only method.
To wind up :-
 TPR and Audio Lingual Method both are very important
and interesting.
 Students can get it easily and learn fast.
 They remember with this both Methods.
 With thilese students can active or live during class.
