This document defines and provides examples of different types of resources. It explains that a resource is anything that can satisfy a need, and defines resources as having utility, value, and being impacted by time and technology. Resources are categorized as abiotic or biotic, renewable or non-renewable, actual or potential, and ubiquitous or localized depending on their nature and availability. Different discoveries and technological advances have led to more resources over time.

2.  “ Anything that can be used to satisfy a need is a resource”

3.  Utility: Utility or usability is what makes
an object or substance a resource.
Examples:- Water, electricity, rickshaw,
vegetables, textbook.
 Value:- Value means worth. Some resources
have economic value, some do not.
Examples:- Metals may have an economic
value, a beautiful landscape may not.

4.  Time : Time indicates the different periods.
Discoveries in different time lead to the
creation of more resources. Example:
Discovery of fire led to the practice of
cooking.
 Technology: Technology refers the
techniques adopted by the humans. The
technology to create hydroelectricity has
turned energy in fast flowing water into an
important resource.

6.  Abiotic: Abiotic resources are non living.
 Biotic: Biotic resources are living.

7.  Renewable: Renewable resources are those which
get renewed or replenished quickly.
 Non- Renewable : Non- renewable resources are
those which have a limited stock.

8.  Actual Resource: Actual Resources are those resources whose
quantity is known.
 Potential Resource: Potential Resources are those whose entire
quantity may not be known and these are not being used at
present.

9.  Ubiquitous resources are found everywhere. Eg-
Air we breathe,Sunlight etc.
 localised resources are found only in ceretain
places. Eg-Gold ,Uranium etc
