Identity In The Outsiders
Despite today's societal beliefs of reaching maturity at the age of eighteen, coming–of–age generally
describes various religions that signifies an individual's transition from childhood to adulthood. S.E.
Hinton's young adult fiction, The Outsiders, describes the life of fourteen–year–old Ponyboy Curtis,
the main protagonist, in his internal struggle towards an identity other than one marked by his gang,
the greasers. He lives with Darrel "Darry", his oldest brother who holds all of the responsibility ever
since their parents died and Sodapop, his older, easygoing brother in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the midst
of a gang rivalry between the greasers, an East Side gang known to be poor trouble makers, and the
Socials "Socs", who are known to be the rich and commendable of the West–side of town, ... Show

After Johnny's death, Ponyboy finds a letter written by Johnny that reads, "When you're a kid
everything's new, dawn. It's just when you get used to everything that it's day. Like the way you dig
sunsets, Pony. That's gold. Keep it that way, it's a good way to be," (178). Johnny urges Ponyboy to
embrace his youth and innocence by not yielding to the greaser lifestyle. He insists on Ponyboy
seeking his full potential. Ponyboy acknowledges that there are different stories beyond one's
appearance like himself because although the society previously consider him a nuisance to the
community, they are proved wrong after he transforms into a hero after saving children from a
church fire, which contributes to his dynamic change. Even the close–minded public are subject to
their own change of mind. Johnny's letter also leaves a lifelong impact on Ponyboy's perspective on
the importance of family because the absence of family in Johnny's life makes Ponyboy treasure the
atypical family he has, whether it may the greasers as a whole. In all, a number of people influence
Pony to change his views on people and his

Essay about Perry Smith The Serene Man with the Explosive...
Perry Smith The Serene Man with the Explosive Temper Perry Smith is perhaps the nicest, most
gentle–hearted man I've ever met in my life. If he and I were to have met under different
circumstances, I would never have hazarded a guess that this kind man could be a cold–blooded
killer. He's such a gentle man that it startles me to think that a man such as he would ever so much
as touch a hair on a human head. However, it is the story of his past that lends credence to the fact
that he slaughtered four members of the Clutter family. Built up emotions of hatred and rejection
have been bottled up inside of him for so long, that he sometimes explodes with little cause.
Although he appears soft on the outside, it is the build up of emotion ... Show more content on

They enjoyed seeing their parents perform, but they were forced to live in a truck with little to eat as
they traveled the country hunting work on the rodeo circuit. During the Depression in the 1930s, the
family moved to Nevada in search of work. Tex John Smith, Perry's father, began moonshining for
money. It was around this time that Flo Buckskin, Perry's mother, began drinking. The marriage
ended in a huge fight "in which horsewhips and scalding water and kerosene lamps were used as
weapons." Flo ran away with the children. John later went to San Francisco to get his children back.
Perry was the only one that showed any love for his father. After the divorce, John was granted full
custody, but he took only Perry and put the other children in foster care because he could not care
for all of them. Perry got into trouble in school and was in a fight. His father summarily removed
him from the school, and they left town. Perry says that although he wanted to go to school, his
father wouldn't let him, "because he didn't want [him] to learn anything, only how to tote and carry
for him." Perry joined the Marines in the Second World War, and he went to Korea, where he
displayed signs of his sinister side by throwing a Korean man over a bridge for no reason. He
returned from the war and went to find his father in Alaska, where they

D Day And The African Campaign
D–Day and the African Campaign
On D–Day we lost many people,up to 10,000 people! We had many people that fought during D–
Day including the British,Canada,America, and Germany. As a result of the battle the Allies won and
the nazis lost. For the Allies it was a victory but for others it was a devastation. On the date of
September 1, 1939, it was the start of World War I when Germany invaded Poland. The fighting
spun out of control and continued for six years. The leader of the Axis powers was Hitler.
Germany,Japan, and Italy all fought together which was known as the Axis powers (Martin 4). There
were four countries that fought against Hitler, those countries are Britain,Canada, the U.S,and Russia.

The Allies also desperately desired a protected place to send in men and materials. France was the
perfect place. After that the Allies would swipe back Europe (Martin 7). The Allies thought of a
gutsy plan to creep into France. The plan was called Operation Overlord. For the beginning of the
attack the Allied powers thought to raid five beaches in France. In order for the plan to work the
Allies had to get the timing exactly right (Martin 9). Hitler accepted to invade Europe. Hitler
originally had the thought that France would penetrate the city of calais. Hitler sent countless
soldiers to Calis. The allied powers had to use undercover agents to provide Hitler with the incorrect
knowledge (Martin 10). The allies had even more gimmicks in England, the allies made it look like
there were tanks by putting up fake boats and balloons. They also equipped lights in a open field.
Pilots in Germany mistaken this for army camps (Martin 11). The day Eisenhower chose for the
invasion was June 5,1944. But, because of bad weather the invasion was delayed for about twenty
four hours. After twenty four hours Eisenhower said to proceed with the operation overload and
thats exactly what they did ("History"). The first part of the attack consisted of paratroopers.

Personal Narrative: A New Place In Detroit
I felt the bumping and heard the bus frame squeal quietly as we were on the journey to destination.
We were in Detroit, Michigan for a mission trip. It was a new place full of new things for me to
experience. And the most eye–opening experience for me was when we helped a neighborhood
clean out a disastrous and neglected alley. We pulled up to the destination and I heard the sound of
people's footsteps as we exited the bus and took a glance around, trying to absorb my surroundings.
This was our 3rd day in Detroit, and up until today, my sights have been of fancy hotels, huge
stadiums, crowded streets, and skyscrapers escalating high in the sky. This place looked a lot more
at home with the vibrant green grass in the yards, a family hanging ... Show more content on

As we looked we realized that what we had witnessed before was only the beginning. There were
houses with broken windows, caved in roofs and plant life invading into the house space. These
houses were deteriorating in front of our eyes. Some houses had broke open doors with the
belongings inside thrown about like a tornado had gone through it. I gasped as my jaw dropped. I
couldn't believe what I was seeing. I knew people had worries about us going to Detroit, but the
place we were located was luxurious compared to what I was seeing now. One of my youth leaders
explained that this was one of the more troubled parts of Detroit, the reason we came here to help.
When things started going bad everyone up and left their homes in order to escape, with all these
homes be evacuated, criminals would break in to tear out the copper and steal other belongings.
Some of the deteriorating abandoned houses had papers on them that labeled a date that they would
get cleaned out and tear down, and all those dates had already been past while the houses stood
there still. Multiple signs showed that this neighborhood in Detroit is being neglected, and clearly
has been for a long

Analysis Of A Walk To Remember
"A Walk to Remember is a love story so sweet, sincere, and positive that it sneaks past the defenses
built up in this age of irony." A Walk to Remember is an epic love story directed by Adam
Shankman. This marvelous movie portrays a love story like no one has ever experienced before.
Compared to other typical "chick–flicks," A Walk to Remember connects the person watching the
movie to each character by showing him or her the ugly, non–proud aspects of each person. The
love story, itself, grabs the attention of a regular individual by personable characters, plot of the
movie, and romance between two main characters. Mandy Moore, starring as Jamie Sullivan in A

Landon's mother is very supportive of him, even when he is in trouble. One reason contributing to
Landon's troubled life would be his father, Dr. Carter. David Smith plays the insensitive part of Dr.
Carter, who left Landon and his mother to be with a younger woman. Although Dr. Carter tries to
rekindle the broken relationship with his son, Landon wants nothing to do with him. Being that
Landon and his father have walls put up between them, the emotions Landon feels towards Jamie
are obvious. Landon feels as if he is superior to Jamie. She lives a religious life, finding joy in doing
things for the good of other people. Jamie is not quite the same as other high school girls, and
Landon does not see the typical "teenage drama queen" in her. Landon's closest friends, Eric, Dean,
Belinda, and Tracie feel a similar way that he does towards Jamie. The five peers ridicule Jamie and
laugh at her for the person she is, and obviously, for the one green sweater she wears every day.
Each performer in the movie is connected to Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter in some sort of way,
aside from the cruel and harsh things that come along with each scene. Within the scenes of A Walk
to Remember, one can begin to see how these actors and actresses are portrayed and how they fit
into the film. In the beginning of A Walk to Remember, one hears daring music playing in Landon
Carter's red Camaro as he pulls up outside a factory. His

The Men Who Built America Essay
Much credit was given to six men, for creating the foundation of America. The first 4 were
Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan. Through shipping
and trains, oil and its development, steel and construction, and corporate finance, these men
constructed the foundation of our country. Through their careers, these men saw much change
during prosperous times that effected business then and ultimately in the long run. Cornelius
Vanderbilt was an American industrialist and philanthropist. His claim to fame and fortune was

Andrew Carnegie was an industrialist who led the expansion of the steel industry in America. He
made his fortune in the steel industry, controlling the most iron and steel operations ever owned by
any individual in America. In the 1880's, his steel company was the largest manufacturer in the
world of pig iron, steel rails, and coke. The company had the capacity to produce about 2,000 tons
of pig metal per day. In 1892, he launched the Carnegie Steel Company which was combined of
Homestead Steel Works and a line of lake steamships which he bought in 1888. In all, by 1889,
Carnegie's empire consisted of Edgar Thomson Steel Works, The Lucy Furnaces, Pittsburgh
Bessemer Steel Works, the Union Iron Mills, the Keystone Bridge Works, the Union Mill, Hartman
Steel Works, the Frick Coke company and the Scotia ore mines. In 1901, Carnegie was 91 and
considering retirement. He made all the necessary preparations to his end and made negotiations
with J.P. Morgan to sell his company. March 2, 1901, the United States Steel Corporation was
formed and was the first corporation in the world with a market capitalization over $1 billion
(History.com). While Andrew Carnegie was building his steel empire, he realized that in order to
exceed production, he would have to make some changes. In 1892, labor declared a

Symptoms of Anxiety Disorders and Methods of Treatment
Fear is an emotion that everyone experiences from time to time throughout his or her life. Fear is
part of a biological response to danger. This emotion was programmed into each human being eons
ago through evolution to alert us to the presence of danger by releasing adrenaline into our
bloodstream therefore causing heart palpitations, sweating, tremors, chest pain, and nausea or
abdominal distress among other symptoms induced by adrenaline. Our body's reaction to fear is
called the flight or fight response, which alerts us to the presence of danger and enhances our
chances of survival.

The criteria for this disorder include, but are not limited to a fear of social situations, avoidance of
such situations, and great apprehension or anxiety in anticipation of social or performance
situations. This fear significantly interferes with a person's relationships with other people, their
social activities, and functioning level at work or school. Social phobia can lead to avoidance
behavior. Meaning a person might avoid any social situation that makes them uncomfortable, and
eventually becomes a homebody. The presence of panic attacks and fear of having another panic
attack, called anticipatory anxiety characterize panic disorder. Symptoms of a panic attack are:
1. Heart palpitations
2. Sweating
3. Trembling
4. Smothering sensation
5. Stomache problems
6. Chills
7. Hot flashes
8. Feeling faint
9. Chest pain
10. Feelings of unreality
11. Fear of dying
12. Fear of losing control
13. Fear of going crazy
14. Tingling sensation Intense fear often accompanies at least four or more of the symptoms. These
symptoms come on abruptly or out of the blue and usually subside in ten minutes to two hours. One
out of seventy people suffer from this illness. The cause of panic disorder is unknown. People
experiencing a panic attack sometimes think they are having a heart attack, since the symptoms of a

smoking marijuana as taking a "puff" on a joint or "draggin'" is the smoking itself. Both Lipton and
Yarrow reject the interpretation. Number 3 Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkle

The, The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
I wholeheartedly embrace the sentiments of Socrates when Plato stated in the Apology, "The
unexamined life is not worth living." Upon reflection, and asking myself, what exactly does this
mean, I feel as if my life has evolved full circle. I finally understand the meaning and purpose of my
life – the myth I believe and know I should be living.
This course has put a lot of things into perspective for me by putting my thoughts, experiences, and
feelings into words and statements that prior to I could not fully explain. I have awareness – this
presence around me that has opened a door that has me thirsting for more knowledge. I have always
been on a quest from a little child to find my place in this world – curious and seeking answers.
What is the purpose and meaning of life? I remember asking my aunt several questions, wanting to
know the answers. I remember being three years old, living in New York City, begging her to bring
me to church every Sunday. We attended services at St. Patrick's Cathedral. I can remember feeling
so small in this very large place, as I observed what was happening around me. I remember having a
fascination with God and experiencing a closeness with him that I could not explain. There were
indelible impressions made attending these services that I was not aware of until later in life. The
mass we attended was often said in Latin. When I entered high school, subconsciously, my language
of choice was Latin. I studied Latin for four years as it came

Classification of Music
Classification of Music
People judge one another on a variety of aspects, whether it is the clothes they wear or the people
they socialize with. I believe that there are many different things that affect all these aspects, things
that create our individual personality. The most major influence on an individual's personality is the
music he or she listens to. Music affects the individual's behavior, actions, the way he or she thinks,
wears and even the way the individual will speak. These are the very things that we are judged upon
as humans. By the classification and break down of the music we listen too is how we can find
ourselves. For me, music is soothing, and not something to be butchered with loud yelling or talk of

Then there are those songs that really speak of non–sense, written and performed by drunken
buffoons like The Doors and David Bowie, all songs I find very amusing. The very music that I can
throw my head around to in random directions and still call it dancing. With this comes that relaxed
fun, and no care in the world. Songs that push away all fears, worries and stresses that may present
in life today. During the time of these artists, they had no worries; they were high half of their lives
but still just having a good time. That is the way I like to feel, and why I believe I was born to the
wrong generation. I try to bring the early classic rock era to me as much as possible; I find this
easiest through the music. I also listen to the classics, where I find reassurance. I have never been
disappointed from any of these artists: The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and The
Eagles–the famous ‘the' bands. Everyone has heard their songs and every one of those songs is
famous and widely known even with today's generation. Most of their songs have no hidden
meanings or metaphors, but I never can be let down by the songs of these bands. All of their songs
are consistent with each other and never change. There are a few artists of my generation that bring

I pulled back, my knees buckling at the emotional wound I felt. My brother ran towards us, leading
a trail of three Interceptors behind him. He caught his breath, long enough to spin around and attack
two at once. His arms repeatedly landed powerful blows into their stomachs, causing them to

The question was whether they questioned if I ever was. Vesper was by my side, clutching my arm

Like the United States' early effort with the Rivers and Harbor Act of 1899, Brazil's initial struggle
to control pollution started with the legislative enactment of the water Code of 1934. (Alter, 2012)
The Water Code of 1934 was designed to regulate usage, property rights over water, and setting
limitations over water use. Before this landmark legislation, the demands for water use was
overseen by the Ministry of Energy's National Department of Water and Energy. Due to the fact
water was a key resource in power generation and electricity via hydroelectricity, prior to the Water

During the early 1960's and late 1970's, the management of water and sanitation services underwent
several reorganizations to help gap the shortages in public health needs between the economically

were developed to bridge these gaps; In 1968 The Sanitary Financing System, was created and in
1971 National Water Supply and Sanitation Plan (PLANASA) was established. Under PLANASA,
investment in infrastructure increased significantly as water coverage doubled between 1970 to

the PLANASA and other peripherally related governmental organizations were investing over $11

quality and distribution systems. However, turbulent financial times troubled Brazil during the
1980's and led to a governmental reorganization which established the Sanitation Secretariat (SNS)

that the evil, tragic and negative things are taking over and overcoming the world and goodness.
Also because the violence and murder is taking it reminds us that we cannot overlook and forget
about these things that are happening.
He mentions the fight in the House of Representatives that broke out, in relation with the civil rights
bill. He also about the equality between black and white people in the 1960's. At this point this is

racism but the song is representing a sense of tranquillity as if everything is okay when it is not.
The newsreader talks about may famous and well known subjects that happened in the 1960's. One
of the most tragic and gruesome topics is about the murders of the 9 nurses; he reads "The notorious
Richard Speck was accused of murdering 9 student nurses, gruesomely stabbing and strangling them
one by one." The words from silent night are "Silent night, Holy night All is calm all is bright", this
is another contrast from the moods portrayed from the song and the news, and the newsreader is
talking about the murders and grief that occurred at this time. This shows the audience another

Analysis Of A Song Of Despair By Pablo Neruda
In the poem "A Song of Despair" Pablo Neruda chronicles the reminiscence of a love between two
characters, with the main speaker's perspective showing the changes between their relationship from
a once fruitful, to a now broken relationship. From this Neruda attempts to showcase the
significance of contrasting imagery to demonstrate the speaker's various emotions felt throughout
the experience. This contrasting imagery specifically develops the reader's understanding of
abandonment, sadness, change, and memory. The significant language features Neruda uses to
accomplish this include: similes, nautical imagery, floral imagery, and apostrophe. Firstly Neruda
uses contrasting imagery of difficulty to represent the speakers troubled relationship. This is
presented using diction in the quotation "How terrible and brief my desire of you! How difficult and
drunken, how tensed and avid." From the words "terrible" and "brief" the feeling of a short, abysmal
experience can be seen. This is paired with the verb "desire" which suggests a longing, or wanting
for something, subsequently referring to the sexual desire of the speaker's past relationship . As a
desire is typically wanted for, pairing it with a short, horrible experience shows the significance of
contrasting imagery used by Neruda to show the drastic change of emotions which is a consequence
of their troubled relationship. This is continued as Neruda describes the desire using alliteration in
the phrase "difficult and

I'm in love with that I love them and will always be there for them no matter how tough times get,
I'll be on there side " When you're down and out
When you're on the street. When evening falls so hard. I will comfort you. I'll take your part.
When darkness comes. And pain is all around. Like a bridge over troubled water. I will lay me

because I always knew they could and I'll still be by their side even as they go on to shine"Your time
has come to shine All your dreams are on their way. See how they shine. If you need a friend. I'm

The Sydney Opera House
Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is a multi–venue performing arts centre located on Bennelong Point in
Sydney, New South Whales Australia. It is used for performances such as ballet, opera, musical
concerts and more. The Sydney Opera House is classified as a masterpiece of late modern
architecture and is proudly treasured by the people of Australia and admired internationally. The
building was constructed due to the demand for bigger theatrical space, and because of its
distinctive profile, the Sydney Opera House instantly became an icon of Australia. Construction
began in 1958 and was opened on October 20, 1973. Construction had been troubled, political
wrangling had lead to costly overruns and delayed completion by nine years. The building wouldn't
even stand up unless the designers hadn't overcome formidable engineering challenges.
Nevertheless, the Sydney Opera House is still a great architectural work of the 20th century that
brings together multiple strands of creativity and innovation in both architectural form and structural
design (Australia.gov.au.).
There are many theories about what inspired the shape of this building. Whatever may be seen in
these incredible forms, it is evident that the architect wanted to create a magical space and
understood the potential provided by the stunning setting of Sydney Harbour. Danish architect, Jorn

Portage Creek Disaster
After some 3 million gallons of toxic mine water spilled into this big, western river, the economic
costs are being tallied by farmers, fly fishing shops, and bankers. Politicians are pointing fingers at
each other. It is no accident that federal and Colorado officials have tried to put the best face on
disaster. The former actually triggered the incident and the latter have a tourist season to save. While
the Animas disaster avoided immediate and catastrophic results, the ultimate ecological price tag
will take longer to figure. The river moves so fast that it swept obvious toxins downstream quickly.
Yet the long–term toxicity reached hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of times over what is
considered safe for the life beneath the river's surface. That price will be silently calculated over
months and years–by the trout. Summer in the southern Rocky Mountains means many different

the RMS Titanic. One key theme associated with the film Titanic is that Love is everlasting. The
sinking of the Titanic was the dramatic story supporting the overall theme of the film. Titanic is a
love story that takes place on the famous ship the RMS Titanic. Young, Rose is making her way
back to America on the Titanic with her mother and fiance, where she meets Jack Dawson. During

established through acting, design, and cinematography.
In the movie, love and romance are used since the central plot is the love story between Jack and
Rose. Romantic films often explore the essential themes of love at first sight, forbidden love, and
even sacrificial love. All three elements that were practiced during the film. Rose was a troubled

was residing in a nightmare, a nightmare that she didn't want, and she was looking for a way out.

Consolidation Of Tri-Met
Consolidation of financially troubled companies began as early as 1891. Willamette Bridge Railway
and Transcontinental Railway (C&S) merged to create largest street railway company on West.
Together they owned more than 60 cars and 61 miles of track. For the first time ever it was possible
to cross from one side of the city to another. Others such as Metropolitan Street Railway, Portland
and Vancouver Railway merged to compete. There were many streetcar crises throughout Tri–Met
history. Some of those incidents were due to natural disaster such as flood, massive snow storm and
more. The worst streetcar incident happened on November 1, 1893. The 20 passengers that were in
that streetcar, majority survived while seven died. According to Thompson,

A Reflection On The Church Of Santa Rosa
I went to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Santa Rosa, California. The church is located in
the old movie theater in downtown Santa Rosa. I parked in a nearby parking garage, grateful for the
free parking on Sunday, and walked down the street toward the church. I knew that I had arrived at
the correct place because of the large granite sign with the name Unitarian Universalist
Congregation Santa Rosa. There were many people standing outside talking to one another. I was
immediately greeted by a church member who welcomed me and showed me to the main entrance.
As I walked through the door, I noticed a rainbow flag above the main entrance, and could not help
but begin thinking of the differences between this church and the one I was raised in. The first thing
I noticed as I entered the first room was the pictures on the walls. They were not of gods or deities,
but of ethnic minorities who had lived in the local community and had a positive impact.
Underneath each photo was a brief description of who the photo represented. I continued walking
down the main hall and it ended in a large semi–circular room with a kitchen nook in one corner.
They had many chairs available chairs and tables to sit and socialize. Another friendly church
member approached me, noticing a new face in the congregation, and asked if I was new. After I
briefly explained why I was there, he told me that he was one of the reverends and had just finished
conducting the nine o'clock service. He

The first three kami, Amenominakanusi (Lord of the Centre of Heaven), Takamimusubi (August

Bless Me Ultima Literary Analysis
Oscar Claros
Bless Me Ultima
AP Literature Pd. 3
Mrs. Amoroso
Experiencing death can sometimes be the best event someone can go through. Death is more than
just someone stopping from existing, it's a concept that can be perceived as a new beginning. Being
able to take the death of someone and turning their philosophy into consideration can be beautiful.

I Am Keith Anthony James
I am Keith Anthony James lll. A lover of Jesus Christ, a self–proclaimed activist, philosopher, poet,
disciple, and clergyman. Life is short, and the irreducible common denominator of all men is death.
At death's door stands Jesus. How I live my life now depends on how that conversation goes. I want
to hear, "Well done good and faithful servant! I will put you in charge of many things, come and
share your Master's happiness." (Matthew 25:23) Eternity is perennial... wouldn't you agree? Jesus

from hoods and suburbs. On one side air was toxic and stunned my growth, and the other side was

The Success Of The Great Recession
The Great Recession which lasted from 2008 to 2010 is often regarded as the greatest economic
crisis since the Great Depression which took place during the 1930s. The causes of both crises can
be said to be similar as both lie in the actions of the federal government. While the crash of the stock
market in 1929 is said to be one of the major causes and sometimes even the main cause of the
Great Depression, there are also other circumstances that led to this economic crisis. Bank failures
during the 1930s also added to decline in the economy. The failure of hundreds of banks caused
people to lose their savings and businesses to lose their operating capital. With the crash of the stock
market, there was also a reduction in purchasing in the economy (consumer demand). A reduction in
consumer demand led to a reduction in production and hence a reduction in the workforce. With a
reduction in production and the workforce, the unemployment rate rose drastically to around 25%.
Due to the number of businesses failing, President Hoover signed into law the Smooth–Hawley
tariff to help protect the failing businesses. However, this created unintended consequences as trade
was stifled between America and foreign countries, further adding to America's economic crisis.
There are many factors that led to the Great Recession in 2008. The major cause is said to be the
decline of the collapse of the housing market. It is even said that the Great Recession has origins
dating till back to the

Essay on Eco-Poetics Reading in The Wate Land by T.S. Eliot
What is an eco–poetics reading of T. S. Eliot's, 'The Waste Land'?
In this discussion of Eliot's poem I will examine the content through the optic of eco–poetics. Eco–
poetics is a literary theory which favours the rhizomatic over the arborescent approach to critical
analysis. The characteristics of the rhizome will provide the overarching structure for this essay.
Firstly rhizomes can map in any direction from any starting point. This will guide the study of
significant motifs in 'The Waste Land.' Secondly they grow and spread, via experimentation within a
context. This will be reflected in the study of the voice and the language with which the poem
opens. Thirdly rhizomes grow and spread regardless of breakage. This will allow for an ... Show

A Room Surrounded By Philosophers From History
As I stand in a room surrounded by philosophers from history, I am in awe in the presence of the
greatest teachers ever known to mankind. I feel intimidated and unworthy to be interviewing men of
such legendary status. I suppose it was written all over my face and that is what captures the
attention of Socrates. He walks across the room and he asks " What is this troubled look upon your
face? It speaks to me from across the room?" " Oh, I'm o.k. Socrates, just feeling a little out of place
being around all these great minds with so much wisdom, I have so much to learn from all of you, I
just don't feel as though I have learned enough." " Good heavens Barbara, surely we are all just
men, pupils of the world, such as you are, who in fact could consider themselves advanced enough
to be a teacher as we are all just merely pupils in this life." " Thank you Socrates, you know, I
wanted to ask you something, we here in the modern day study your teachings and are amazed at
your insight, but do you, think of yourself as wise?" "Well, I must ask you this, what is wisdom? Is
wisdom the knowledge that one has gained from books or is wisdom the understanding that one will

sought to be obtained but yet unobtainable. True wisdom comes from within, the act of seeking

Analysis Of Amy Tan 's The Joy Luck Club
Relationships define a connection between two beings, whether it be through blood, friendship, or
romance. In most cases, the first group that people experience is with their families. The kinship
people are born into comes with ups and downs, which may cause a rift between both parties. Thus,
maintaining a seamless connection may become a struggle between two dissimilar individuals,
"Like many relationships, we have our struggles, our misunderstandings, and our
miscommunications. We are very different people, but also very similar at the same time" (Goreski).
Amy Tan, an author of numerous novels, understands the battle of relationships, especially between
culturally diverse mothers and daughters. In one of Tan's novels, The Joy Luck Club, she writes to
get the point across of how difficult it is for contrasting cultures to communicate with one another,
"...out of an intense concern with the individual artistic choices she was making at every level and at
every moment" (Evans 3). The passionate message Tan stresses in the novel demonstrate how
crucial communication is to her, specifically between a mother and daughter. In The Joy Luck Club,
four women from China move to San Francisco to escape from their pasts. Their American–born
daughters, however, seem to not comprehend why their mothers act and think the way they do. As
the story unravels, the daughters and mothers come to understand each other. Jing–mei, one of the
American–born daughters, is introduced with

Brazilian Cattle Feed Project Management
Brazilian Cattle Feed Project Management Case Study Introduction The inclusion of project teams
into a corporate framework and corresponding corporate culture is a problematic one. In the case of
the Brazilian cattle feed company, it is imperative to hold onto the innovative aspects of the R&D ad
hoc teams, yet there also must be accountability to cost, revenue and performance requirements as
well. The intent of this analysis is to evaluate the role of top management in this scenario, defining
how the project management structure can be augmented to ensure overall corporate objectives are
met. The implications of adding in the R&D ad hoc teams are also explored. Integration of R&D Ad
Hoc Teams Into the Corporation The most critical role any member of top management must fulfill
in the integration of previously ad hoc, highly innovative teams is that of change management
champion. Senior management in this situation must create a highly unique, differentiated and well
supported segment of the business structure that will enable the innovation happening in the ad hoc
team to continually flourish and improve (Bejestani, 2011). The role of the entire senior
management team is to create a culture that strives for accountability to the project management
level of the business while also creating a culture that allows for innovation to flourish (Killen,
Hunt, 2013). This is exceptionally difficult to do well and often the project management teams will

Similarities Between A Song Of Ice And Fire
A lot of the character development and events that take place in A Song of Ice and Fire happen
because of one large word we call "love", and whether that be in terms of a brother, child, or partner
it can make us do some pretty crazy things. A time in particular that represents this is when Bran is
climbing around Winterfell and he catches brother and sister Jaime and Cersei Lannister having
intercourse. Jaime proceeds to push Bran off of the window sill in an attempt to kill him, but instead
grants Bran immobilization and amnesia of the events that caused his fall. After Jaime shoves Bran
he recites a cliche line "The things I do for love." I think through this quote and the other events that
happen because of love in the story George R.R.

According to Merriam–Webster, trauma is defined as a serious injury or wound to living tissue
caused by an extrinsic agent; a very difficult or unpleasant experience that causes a person to have

trauma that can affect a child's development, specifically neural development. One pervasive form

The Role Of Consciousness In Toni Morrison's Beloved
Beloved, written by Toni Morrison, is a story of loss; from start to end, Sethe, her family, and other
characters cope with and tend to the emotional scars of slavery. One of these scars, Sethe's murder
of her youngest daughter, manifests into its own character, Beloved, and has a pivotal influence on
the work.. From scholarly journals to collegiate literature classes, there is debate on the state of her
being: is Beloved a ghostly succubus, leeching spirit from Sethe and her family as a symbol of the
permanence of the effects of slavery? Or is she a separate character entirely, implemented by
Morrison as another woman bedeviled by years of abuse at the hands of white oppressors. In her

along, and when it came time for Poe to get an education Allan offered no funds to help. Poe then
fell into a gambling addiction in order to try and cover his funds for school. The amount of debt he
gained was tremendous and from here he fell into an addiction with alcohol. Some say that this is
where Poe's descent into madness began. Years later, Poe watched his own wife, Virginia Poe, die of
the same disease that took his mother from him. These instances of death consuming the people that
he cared for took a toll on him mentally, and it showed in his writings. His writings surrounded
death and loss, "The Black Cat" is no exception. The narrator in this story is someone who is

Folie À Deux: Music Analysis
The era of Folie à Deux is a time Fall Out Boy fans will never forget. Filled with meaningful lyrics
written by bassist Pete Wentz and appearances by Paris Hilton, it is an age underappreciated by the
media, but an age appreciated by their audience before the two–year hiatus. Although the tracks
weren't hits in the Billboard Top 100 at the time, they are still relevant to the ones who were moved
by them, even if it isn't mainstream. "Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes" opens the album with the
lines "I'm coming apart from the seams/pitching myself for leads in other people's dreams." Already,
the band grabs the listener's attention with heartfelt, relatable lyrics. It starts off with the soft sounds
of a keyboard, then flows into a more elaborate

Identity In The Outsiders

  • 1. Identity In The Outsiders Despite today's societal beliefs of reaching maturity at the age of eighteen, coming–of–age generally describes various religions that signifies an individual's transition from childhood to adulthood. S.E. Hinton's young adult fiction, The Outsiders, describes the life of fourteen–year–old Ponyboy Curtis, the main protagonist, in his internal struggle towards an identity other than one marked by his gang, the greasers. He lives with Darrel "Darry", his oldest brother who holds all of the responsibility ever since their parents died and Sodapop, his older, easygoing brother in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the midst of a gang rivalry between the greasers, an East Side gang known to be poor trouble makers, and the Socials "Socs", who are known to be the rich and commendable of the West–side of town, ... It's just when you get used to everything that it's day. Like the way you dig sunsets, Pony. That's gold. Keep it that way, it's a good way to be," (178). Johnny urges Ponyboy to embrace his youth and innocence by not yielding to the greaser lifestyle. He insists on Ponyboy seeking his full potential. Ponyboy acknowledges that there are different stories beyond one's appearance like himself because although the society previously consider him a nuisance to the community, they are proved wrong after he transforms into a hero after saving children from a church fire, which contributes to his dynamic change. Even the close–minded public are subject to their own change of mind. Johnny's letter also leaves a lifelong impact on Ponyboy's perspective on the importance of family because the absence of family in Johnny's life makes Ponyboy treasure the atypical family he has, whether it may the greasers as a whole. In all, a number of people influence Pony to change his views on people and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Essay about Perry Smith The Serene Man with the Explosive... Perry Smith The Serene Man with the Explosive Temper Perry Smith is perhaps the nicest, most gentle–hearted man I've ever met in my life. If he and I were to have met under different circumstances, I would never have hazarded a guess that this kind man could be a cold–blooded killer. He's such a gentle man that it startles me to think that a man such as he would ever so much as touch a hair on a human head. However, it is the story of his past that lends credence to the fact that he slaughtered four members of the Clutter family. Built up emotions of hatred and rejection have been bottled up inside of him for so long, that he sometimes explodes with little cause. Although he appears soft on the outside, it is the build up of emotion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They enjoyed seeing their parents perform, but they were forced to live in a truck with little to eat as they traveled the country hunting work on the rodeo circuit. During the Depression in the 1930s, the family moved to Nevada in search of work. Tex John Smith, Perry's father, began moonshining for money. It was around this time that Flo Buckskin, Perry's mother, began drinking. The marriage ended in a huge fight "in which horsewhips and scalding water and kerosene lamps were used as weapons." Flo ran away with the children. John later went to San Francisco to get his children back. Perry was the only one that showed any love for his father. After the divorce, John was granted full custody, but he took only Perry and put the other children in foster care because he could not care for all of them. Perry got into trouble in school and was in a fight. His father summarily removed him from the school, and they left town. Perry says that although he wanted to go to school, his father wouldn't let him, "because he didn't want [him] to learn anything, only how to tote and carry for him." Perry joined the Marines in the Second World War, and he went to Korea, where he displayed signs of his sinister side by throwing a Korean man over a bridge for no reason. We had many people that fought during D– Day including the British,Canada,America, and Germany. As a result of the battle the Allies won and the nazis lost. For the Allies it was a victory but for others it was a devastation. On the date of September 1, 1939, it was the start of World War I when Germany invaded Poland. The fighting spun out of control and continued for six years. The leader of the Axis powers was Hitler. Germany,Japan, and Italy all fought together which was known as the Axis powers (Martin 4). The Allies also desperately desired a protected place to send in men and materials. France was the perfect place. After that the Allies would swipe back Europe (Martin 7). The Allies thought of a gutsy plan to creep into France. The plan was called Operation Overlord. For the beginning of the attack the Allied powers thought to raid five beaches in France. In order for the plan to work the Allies had to get the timing exactly right (Martin 9). Hitler accepted to invade Europe. Hitler originally had the thought that France would penetrate the city of calais. Hitler sent countless soldiers to Calis. The allied powers had to use undercover agents to provide Hitler with the incorrect knowledge (Martin 10). The allies had even more gimmicks in England, the allies made it look like there were tanks by putting up fake boats and balloons. They also equipped lights in a open field. Pilots in Germany mistaken this for army camps (Martin 11). The day Eisenhower chose for the invasion was June 5,1944. But, because of bad weather the invasion was delayed for about twenty four hours. After twenty four hours Eisenhower said to proceed with the operation overload and thats exactly what they did ("History"). The first part of the attack consisted of paratroopers. • 4. Personal Narrative: A New Place In Detroit I felt the bumping and heard the bus frame squeal quietly as we were on the journey to destination. We were in Detroit, Michigan for a mission trip. It was a new place full of new things for me to experience. And the most eye–opening experience for me was when we helped a neighborhood clean out a disastrous and neglected alley. We pulled up to the destination and I heard the sound of people's footsteps as we exited the bus and took a glance around, trying to absorb my surroundings. This was our 3rd day in Detroit, and up until today, my sights have been of fancy hotels, huge stadiums, crowded streets, and skyscrapers escalating high in the sky. This place looked a lot more at home with the vibrant green grass in the yards, a family hanging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we looked we realized that what we had witnessed before was only the beginning. There were houses with broken windows, caved in roofs and plant life invading into the house space. These houses were deteriorating in front of our eyes. Some houses had broke open doors with the belongings inside thrown about like a tornado had gone through it. I gasped as my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I knew people had worries about us going to Detroit, but the place we were located was luxurious compared to what I was seeing now. One of my youth leaders explained that this was one of the more troubled parts of Detroit, the reason we came here to help. When things started going bad everyone up and left their homes in order to escape, with all these homes be evacuated, criminals would break in to tear out the copper and steal other belongings. Some of the deteriorating abandoned houses had papers on them that labeled a date that they would get cleaned out and tear down, and all those dates had already been past while the houses stood there still. Multiple signs showed that this neighborhood in Detroit is being neglected, and clearly has been for a long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of A Walk To Remember "A Walk to Remember is a love story so sweet, sincere, and positive that it sneaks past the defenses built up in this age of irony." A Walk to Remember is an epic love story directed by Adam Shankman. This marvelous movie portrays a love story like no one has ever experienced before. Compared to other typical "chick–flicks," A Walk to Remember connects the person watching the movie to each character by showing him or her the ugly, non–proud aspects of each person. The love story, itself, grabs the attention of a regular individual by personable characters, plot of the movie, and romance between two main characters. Landon's mother is very supportive of him, even when he is in trouble. One reason contributing to Landon's troubled life would be his father, Dr. Carter. David Smith plays the insensitive part of Dr. Carter, who left Landon and his mother to be with a younger woman. Although Dr. Carter tries to rekindle the broken relationship with his son, Landon wants nothing to do with him. Being that Landon and his father have walls put up between them, the emotions Landon feels towards Jamie are obvious. Landon feels as if he is superior to Jamie. She lives a religious life, finding joy in doing things for the good of other people. Jamie is not quite the same as other high school girls, and Landon does not see the typical "teenage drama queen" in her. Landon's closest friends, Eric, Dean, Belinda, and Tracie feel a similar way that he does towards Jamie. The five peers ridicule Jamie and laugh at her for the person she is, and obviously, for the one green sweater she wears every day. Each performer in the movie is connected to Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter in some sort of way, aside from the cruel and harsh things that come along with each scene. Within the scenes of A Walk to Remember, one can begin to see how these actors and actresses are portrayed and how they fit into the film. In the beginning of A Walk to Remember, one hears daring music playing in Landon Carter's red Camaro as he pulls up outside a factory. His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Men Who Built America Essay Much credit was given to six men, for creating the foundation of America. The first 4 were Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan. Through shipping and trains, oil and its development, steel and construction, and corporate finance, these men constructed the foundation of our country. Through their careers, these men saw much change during prosperous times that effected business then and ultimately in the long run. He made his fortune in the steel industry, controlling the most iron and steel operations ever owned by any individual in America. In the 1880's, his steel company was the largest manufacturer in the world of pig iron, steel rails, and coke. The company had the capacity to produce about 2,000 tons of pig metal per day. In 1892, he launched the Carnegie Steel Company which was combined of Homestead Steel Works and a line of lake steamships which he bought in 1888. In all, by 1889, Carnegie's empire consisted of Edgar Thomson Steel Works, The Lucy Furnaces, Pittsburgh Bessemer Steel Works, the Union Iron Mills, the Keystone Bridge Works, the Union Mill, Hartman Steel Works, the Frick Coke company and the Scotia ore mines. • 15. Analysis Of A Song Of Despair By Pablo Neruda In the poem "A Song of Despair" Pablo Neruda chronicles the reminiscence of a love between two characters, with the main speaker's perspective showing the changes between their relationship from a once fruitful, to a now broken relationship. From this Neruda attempts to showcase the significance of contrasting imagery to demonstrate the speaker's various emotions felt throughout the experience. This contrasting imagery specifically develops the reader's understanding of abandonment, sadness, change, and memory. The significant language features Neruda uses to accomplish this include: similes, nautical imagery, floral imagery, and apostrophe. Firstly Neruda uses contrasting imagery of difficulty to represent the speakers troubled relationship. This is presented using diction in the quotation "How terrible and brief my desire of you! How difficult and drunken, how tensed and avid." From the words "terrible" and "brief" the feeling of a short, abysmal experience can be seen. This is paired with the verb "desire" which suggests a longing, or wanting for something, subsequently referring to the sexual desire of the speaker's past relationship . As a desire is typically wanted for, pairing it with a short, horrible experience shows the significance of contrasting imagery used by Neruda to show the drastic change of emotions which is a consequence of their troubled relationship. This is continued as Neruda describes the desire using alliteration in the phrase "difficult and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Success Of The Great Recession The Great Recession which lasted from 2008 to 2010 is often regarded as the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression which took place during the 1930s. The causes of both crises can be said to be similar as both lie in the actions of the federal government. While the crash of the stock market in 1929 is said to be one of the major causes and sometimes even the main cause of the Great Depression, there are also other circumstances that led to this economic crisis. Bank failures during the 1930s also added to decline in the economy. The failure of hundreds of banks caused people to lose their savings and businesses to lose their operating capital. With the crash of the stock market, there was also a reduction in purchasing in the economy (consumer demand). A reduction in consumer demand led to a reduction in production and hence a reduction in the workforce. With a reduction in production and the workforce, the unemployment rate rose drastically to around 25%. Due to the number of businesses failing, President Hoover signed into law the Smooth–Hawley tariff to help protect the failing businesses. However, this created unintended consequences as trade was stifled between America and foreign countries, further adding to America's economic crisis. • 28. A Room Surrounded By Philosophers From History As I stand in a room surrounded by philosophers from history, I am in awe in the presence of the greatest teachers ever known to mankind. I feel intimidated and unworthy to be interviewing men of such legendary status. I suppose it was written all over my face and that is what captures the attention of Socrates. He walks across the room and he asks " What is this troubled look upon your face? It speaks to me from across the room?" " Oh, I'm o.k. Socrates, just feeling a little out of place being around all these great minds with so much wisdom, I have so much to learn from all of you, I just don't feel as though I have learned enough." " Good heavens Barbara, surely we are all just men, pupils of the world, such as you are, who in fact could consider themselves advanced enough to be a teacher as we are all just merely pupils in this life." " Thank you Socrates, you know, I wanted to ask you something, we here in the modern day study your teachings and are amazed at your insight, but do you, think of yourself as wise?" "Well, I must ask you this, what is wisdom? Is wisdom the knowledge that one has gained from books or is wisdom the understanding that one will never be wise? I seek knowledge and wisdom, but I am not wise. Wisdom is something that is sought to be obtained but yet unobtainable. True wisdom comes from within, the act of seeking knowledge will make one be considered wise, for in the act is the admission that you are in fact unwise. For if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of Amy Tan 's The Joy Luck Club Relationships define a connection between two beings, whether it be through blood, friendship, or romance. In most cases, the first group that people experience is with their families. The kinship people are born into comes with ups and downs, which may cause a rift between both parties. Thus, maintaining a seamless connection may become a struggle between two dissimilar individuals, "Like many relationships, we have our struggles, our misunderstandings, and our miscommunications. We are very different people, but also very similar at the same time" (Goreski). Amy Tan, an author of numerous novels, understands the battle of relationships, especially between culturally diverse mothers and daughters. In one of Tan's novels, The Joy Luck Club, she writes to get the point across of how difficult it is for contrasting cultures to communicate with one another, "...out of an intense concern with the individual artistic choices she was making at every level and at every moment" (Evans 3). The passionate message Tan stresses in the novel demonstrate how crucial communication is to her, specifically between a mother and daughter. In The Joy Luck Club, four women from China move to San Francisco to escape from their pasts. Their American–born daughters, however, seem to not comprehend why their mothers act and think the way they do. As the story unravels, the daughters and mothers come to understand each other. • 31. The Sydney Opera House Sydney Opera House The Sydney Opera House is a multi–venue performing arts centre located on Bennelong Point in Sydney, New South Whales Australia. It is used for performances such as ballet, opera, musical concerts and more. The Sydney Opera House is classified as a masterpiece of late modern architecture and is proudly treasured by the people of Australia and admired internationally. The building was constructed due to the demand for bigger theatrical space, and because of its distinctive profile, the Sydney Opera House instantly became an icon of Australia. Construction began in 1958 and was opened on October 20, 1973. Construction had been troubled, political wrangling had lead to costly overruns and delayed completion by nine years. The building wouldn't even stand up unless the designers hadn't overcome formidable engineering challenges. Nevertheless, the Sydney Opera House is still a great architectural work of the 20th century that brings together multiple strands of creativity and innovation in both architectural form and structural design (Australia.gov.au.). There are many theories about what inspired the shape of this building. Whatever may be seen in these incredible forms, it is evident that the architect wanted to create a magical space and understood the potential provided by the stunning setting of Sydney Harbour. Danish architect, Jorn Utzon, aimed to make the most of its position. Utzon created a rough sketch for a competition of a new opera house, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Brazilian Cattle Feed Project Management Brazilian Cattle Feed Project Management Case Study Introduction The inclusion of project teams into a corporate framework and corresponding corporate culture is a problematic one. In the case of the Brazilian cattle feed company, it is imperative to hold onto the innovative aspects of the R&D ad hoc teams, yet there also must be accountability to cost, revenue and performance requirements as well. The intent of this analysis is to evaluate the role of top management in this scenario, defining how the project management structure can be augmented to ensure overall corporate objectives are met. The implications of adding in the R&D ad hoc teams are also explored. Integration of R&D Ad Hoc Teams Into the Corporation The most critical role any member of top management must fulfill in the integration of previously ad hoc, highly innovative teams is that of change management champion. Senior management in this situation must create a highly unique, differentiated and well supported segment of the business structure that will enable the innovation happening in the ad hoc team to continually flourish and improve (Bejestani, 2011). The role of the entire senior management team is to create a culture that strives for accountability to the project management level of the business while also creating a culture that allows for innovation to flourish (Killen, Hunt, 2013). This is exceptionally difficult to do well and often the project management teams will be placed under a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between A Song Of Ice And Fire A lot of the character development and events that take place in A Song of Ice and Fire happen because of one large word we call "love", and whether that be in terms of a brother, child, or partner it can make us do some pretty crazy things. A time in particular that represents this is when Bran is climbing around Winterfell and he catches brother and sister Jaime and Cersei Lannister having intercourse. Jaime proceeds to push Bran off of the window sill in an attempt to kill him, but instead grants Bran immobilization and amnesia of the events that caused his fall. After Jaime shoves Bran he recites a cliche line "The things I do for love." I think through this quote and the other events that happen because of love in the story George R.R. ... • 35. The Role Of Consciousness In Toni Morrison's Beloved Beloved, written by Toni Morrison, is a story of loss; from start to end, Sethe, her family, and other characters cope with and tend to the emotional scars of slavery. One of these scars, Sethe's murder of her youngest daughter, manifests into its own character, Beloved, and has a pivotal influence on the work.. From scholarly journals to collegiate literature classes, there is debate on the state of her being: is Beloved a ghostly succubus, leeching spirit from Sethe and her family as a symbol of the permanence of the effects of slavery? Or is she a separate character entirely, implemented by Morrison as another woman bedeviled by years of abuse at the hands of white oppressors. Sethe longs for her dead daughter and is rather easily convinced that Beloved is the child she has lost" (7).
