Myth Essay
"How flip–flops got their flop." There once was a goddess with a mystical power that made
everyone happy; as long as she was happy they were happy. That goddess' name was Ella. Ella has a
twin brother named Evan. Evan has the power of mind–control. Ella lived high in the sky on clouds
amongst the other god. Ella and the other gods got along very well especially when she was in a
good mood. After living in the clouds for a very long time all the gods got tired of doing regular
deeds for themselves. They decided to do something big to create something. They all joined
together in a big circle around the largest cloud and spun around three–hundred–and–sixty–five
times. As they all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fresh was the god of fire. After hearing what the serpent had suggested just to be on the safe side
Ella, agreed with this collaboration. Ella really didn't want to have Fresh involved because bad
things tend to happen when he is around. When Ella first heard of the words come out of the
serpents mouth she threw the shoe. While in the air the shoe did a flip and it hit a tree made a big
WHACK, and had a very loud FLOP. Ella liked that sound, she wanted to hear it again so she threw
shoe again. Finally Fresh came, to tighten the knots with fire. He rubbed his thumb and middle
finger together and a spark of fire appeared. As soon as the spark appeared he put the fire on the
knots and then snapped to make the fire go away. As soon as Ella saw the finished product she was
amazed. She tried the shoe on it had a strap like a v shape. She remembered when she threw the
shoe how it flipped and then made a loud FLOP. She named these shoes

The Wonderful Discoverie Of Elizabeth Sawyer, A Witch,...
In this document commentary I will be analysing and commentating on an extract from Henry
Goodcole's pamphlet, The Wonderful Discoverie of Elizabeth Sawyer, a Witch, late of Edmonton.
Her Conviction and Condemation and Death. (London, 1621). I will be seeing how if the
contemporary public felt the same way and how this relates to the history of witchcraft.
Henry Goodcole was a 'prison visitor and author [and was] best known for a series of criminal
biographies, arising from his experiences as ordinary and recounting his attempts to extort
confessions from the condemned in the prison'. The most famous of his visits was to Elizabeth
Sawyer, who was suspected of being a witch. 'His pamphlet on the Sawyer case included the
confession he had elicited from the condemned witch while preparing her spiritually for execution'.
Before sixteenth century, the ability to read and write was low. But during the century there was
growth in education for the public and illiteracy was decreasing. 'It is estimated that in 1600 about
10 per cent of women in England were literate; by 1700 this had risen to perhaps 30 per cent'. In
1650 the male literacy rate 'rose to almost a half'. The biggest form of reading was through reading
print and 'it was this mode of literacy that provided the foundation for pamphlet culture'. Despite the
low literacy rates many peoples workplaces 'allowed them to hear texts they could not read instead'.
'Elizabeth Sawyer, was a poor woman of obscure origins

The Tale Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Once upon a time, a poor peasant lived with his seven quarreling sons in a cozy cottage amidst the
enveloping woods. All of the peasant's sons had an extremely cold heart and a selfish mind except
the youngest, Lumio. He was different. A charming boy he was; an outgoing personality he
possessed. And of course, his older brothers, especially Fuscus, grew more and more envious of him
until one day, they succumbed to the envy as they could take it no more. You see, all the brothers
loved an enchanting princess who ruled over their small plot of land. Day after day, and night after
night, they cared only about the princess and none other. They saw their youngest brother as a
vexing, immediate hindrance to their already slim chances of impressing the so–desired princess as
they feared that if the princess met Lumio, the couple would forever be knit, and so, the story
continues. Frustrated, the jealous brothers devised a wicked, desperate plot to rid themselves of their
annoying hindrance, their brother. Fuscus, the oldest brother, spoke. "Have you heard of the deep,
dank well beyond the wood? Legend has it that the well is cursed to be the lair of the Golden Devil.
What say?" And so, the next day, Lumio and his brothers walked to the well in silence. A repeated,
resonating caw from a raven made even Fuscus himself turn cold with fear as if it was a glaring
reminder of the terrible deed he would perform very soon. Closer and closer the well drew, each
step, a mile. Poor Lumio

Essay about "Pray the Devil Back to Hell"
"Pray the Devil Back to Hell."
Recently we watched "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" in English class. A few of the social issues
addressed were: poverty, peace and women's rights. The women were so fed up with how their
president has been treating everyone. He got young children to run around with guns and hurt
innocent people. Everyone was so below poverty that children were starving to death and there was
nothing the parents could do because they themselves were starving. The women wanted so badly to
have peace to stop the war, the fighting, and the poverty. The women just wanted a say in what was
happening around them, to get a chance to stop it all. Prior to watching this movie I didn't know
how badly the women and children had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me this movie really teaches you to stay strong, keep motivated and most importantly that
anyone can be successful. This movie taught me so much about prevalence and how the power of
good over comes evil. Those women prayed so much that they got so much accomplished and they
got so many things to change for the better. In my future I will use this movie as a motivation tool
and as a way to remind myself that even though times are hard they will get better you just have to
hold on. Also in the future I will use this movie to show that anything is possible if you have help
from those you love and believe in. Overall I thought this was a really good movie. I thought it
taught you a lot about diversity, women's rights, poverty and peace. The movie was a very touching
and inspiring movie; there is also a lot of emotion due to what they had to deal with on an everyday
basis. To me the movie and their stories really teach you that you should be aware of your
surroundings and to be helpful in your

Analysis Of The Book ' The Garden '
For those who haven 't learned the truth of what happened in the garden. It is a crucial teaching to
learn that makes the whole bible come more alive , among other teachings that aren 't taught in your
average church
Let 's go to Genesis and see what happened in the garden.
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And
he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
You now know who this "serpent" is who was more subtle, meaning cunningly wise, than any
"beast" of the field, which means any other living, created being, human or otherwise! So the
PICTURE you now need to place in your mind is one of a very smart, good looking, handsome
young man who is very, very charming and likeable and intelligent and well spoken. Got it?
That old serpent has perpetuated a lie, a tradition, about the "snake" and the "apple" long enough.
Do not let him have the victory any more! Again, it is his diabolical plan to deceive a Biblically
ignorant people, "because it ministers to the acceptance of his lie, the hiding of God 's truth, the
jeers of the infidel, the opposition of the critics, and the stumbling of the weak in faith."
(Companion Bible, appendix 19, last paragraph.)
By the way, the apostle Paul also refers to this "serpent" in the garden in 2 Cor. 11:3:
2 Cor. 11:3
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should
be corrupted

The Devils Organization: A Case Study
The Devils organization was established in 1976 first known as the Kansas City Scouts in Kansas
City. The Scouts then moved to Denver Colorado for two seasons becoming the Colorado Rockies.
In 1982, the Rockies moved to East Rutherford, New Jersey becoming the New Jersey Devils
(Devils NHL, 2015). The Devils were located at the Meadowlands Sport Complex for their first 25
years in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where they played their games at Brendan Byrne Arena. At
the begging of the 2007–2008 season, the Devils moved their home to Newark, where they currently
play at the Prudential Center. The New Jersey Devils are a part of the Metro Politian Division in the
NHL's Eastern Conference. The Devils have appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals five ... Show more

They signed a 20–year TV rights agreement with MSG in 2004 (Prnewswire, 2004). The agreement
will ensure that New Jersey Devils games will be seen on FSN New York through the 2023–2024
season.
In conclusion, the New Jersey Devils have been a strong and very successful sports franchise since
they made the move to New Jersey. Being the only pro sports franchise that recognizes themselves
as a New Jersey team they need to continue their growth. Last year the Devils operating expanse
was positive, they need to continue this in order to be successful financially. The Devils locking up
MSG until the 2023 season gives them long term security. Winning three Stanly Cup Finals and
many division titles over the years has made them the successful organization they are

Relationship Between Relationships And Relationships
People interact constantly so human relationships are everywhere in life and in literature.
Relationships are all around, even if it is not obvious. Relationships can range anywhere from
friends to marriages. There are many different types of relationships, (comma or semicolon?) none
of which are alike. Although, most people see relationships as good, some of them are bad and
unhealthy. They can sometimes cause major problems that affect the people involved and others too.
Relationships can also be between groups of people. Many stories have racism in them which is a
perfect example of bad relationships with groups of people. Almost all good stories have
relationships in them which shows that relationships are vital to American Literature. Having
relationships is common and natural. People interact daily so the formation of new relationships is
unavoidable(Welch). C. Welch created good questions concerning human nature and relationships
like, "Should we conform or be original?" "What is the best way to live together?" and "How do we
deal with death?" The questions about life can also be used in literature. There are many basic
questions that could be ask to find out the main theme, why it is the theme, and what other less
important themes are when dealing with relationships in stories(Welch). Relationships are important
enough that some stories are based almost solely on relationships. Problems with relationships
helped create the plot of the story in "The Crucible," by

Dilemma at Devil's Den
CASE STUDY
ON
DILEMMAAT DEVIL'S DEN
INTRODUCTION
In the case study of the Dilemma at Devil's Den, we have a student snack bar Devil's Den, which
was managed by contract with an external company College Food Services (CFS) that had many
organizational challenges that needed to be immediately addressed. An employee Susan realized
these challenges. One of the main many problems was the theft that was going on for a long time.
The employees were allowing their friends to take free food, and they themselves were also taking
food in large quantities when leaving their shifts. The storage room could be easily accessible as it
was unlocked all the time. Employees took advantage of this situation to take free freebies from the
storage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ANALYSIS
The management system at CFS has, till now, been an unprofessional work environment with a
most casual and unconcerned stance towards its employees' immoral ways. The employees, mostly
fresher's, are devoid of any previous experience of a workplace, causing them to adopt their own set
of rules and regulations on being introduced into such a careless work scenario. Added to that is the
low paying job, subject to growth by a mere 15% after promotion, along with the pressures of long
working hours and overnight shifts is tempting them towards ulterior means. The unchecked ways
of these newbies has led to a lot of loss to the Devil's Den, both in financial terms as well as in terms
of its reputation before customers who too are taking advantage of the situation.
This informal attitude of employees has led to an unprecedented state of affairs wherein Susan needs
to step in and take a stance between her moral beliefs and gains of a more personal nature. She
needs to analyze the pros and cons of each dilemma that she faces. As the student management is
not willing to take action on this matter, Susan could, abiding by her values, approach the co–
workers and demand that this immoral activity be stopped. However, this may turn the group against
her and she may, eventually, be forced from her position.
Alternatively, Susan could wait till she is appointed as a manager in the

would let her and her brother have a nice family reunion. She dreamed about a new life free of Big
Tony and his demands. One that only included her and her brother. Now, things were spinning out of

hour later, Eva was flagging down a yellow Volkswagen beetle driven by a hyper looking black

The Devil Made Me Do It
The enemy, the devil, can't make you and I do anything. So, don't use that flimsy excuse that "The
devil made me do it." The devil didn't make you do anything. He can't force you and I to do
anything that is outside our will or the will of God. All he can do is tempt you. He doesn't have that
kind of authority over us, where he can make you do anything. The Bible says that we are drawn
away by our own lusts when we do something that is outside of God's Word and will for our lives.
You're drawn away because that's what you wanted to do, and then we try to find every excuse in
the book to justify doing it. I'm here to tell you that you'll never be able to qualify it. You will never
ever be able to satisfy yourself with the thought "I was justified in doing it" if you're going to be a
man of integrity. A man of integrity has nothing to hide, nothing to fear. You are always a stand–up
man, and you will always be an individual who others can depend and count on. But most of all, a
man of integrity is always true to his word. When you make promises, keep them. Don't be a liar. A
man of integrity is not a liar; he keeps his word. The Bible says in Psalm 15, "When you're living
with integrity, you'll tell the truth even when you're older. Even when you know it may very well
expose you, you still tell the truth instead of trying to find a way to get around it. Speak the truth in
love, that we may grow up in all things." Every time you lie, you compromise your integrity. Let's

The New York Islanders Board
Today, the New York Islanders board a flight for Dallas, a day earlier than they would have left
under normal circumstances, to continue their nine–game road trip. What's not normal about a
Tuesday in February? In case you have been living under a rock, tomorrow at 3pm ET is the NHL's
annual trade deadline. And with the Islanders engaged in a back–room brawl for the final Eastern
conference wild card spot, it's their last opportunity to search for help outside the organization, help
that could get them over the hump and into the playoffs, where every team, thanks to parity that now
rules the day, has a chance at the big prize. Third place in the Metropolitan division is a pipe dream

But, has it been with a little smoke and mirrors? Underlying numbers seem to say yes. Over their
last nine games, they are 5–4–0, and in the four losses, have allowed a staggering 20 goals while
showing up for, arguably, four out of 12 periods of play (two in Ottawa and two in New Jersey). In
four of their last six games, they have put less than 25 shots on goal. They are 26th in the NHL in
5v5 possession (47.4%) and have a PDO of 100.6, showing they are not garnering results due to
inflated shooting or save percentages. Brock Nelson has no goals in 10 games, collecting only 4
assists in that span. Ryan Strome has 3–2–5 in the same 10–game span, but two goals and three
points came in one game. In six of his past seven games, he is pointless. Anthony Beauvillier has
been a breath of fresh air, working as hard as any forward, but has six goals in 47 games and at 19–
years old, now enters unknown conditioning territory. The Islanders are 20th in the NHL in the
faceoff circle, at 48.7%, and have allowed some bad goals, even lost a couple of games, recently as
a result of not being able to win a big draw. The 'addition by getting healthy' thinking is simply not
good enough at this point, and may not be enough to get the Islanders over the hump and into the
2017 playoffs. Travis Hamonic was struggling mightily before, how about after 20+ games off?
Shane Prince is a nice depth player but nothing other teams are going to fear. Cal

Symbolism Of The Arnold Friend
There is a point in the adolescence of a child in which they encounter a fork, that can lead one of
two ways. The path they end up on is determined by their personal feelings toward the world, the
way they have been raised, and who they want to become in the future. In the short story titled,
"Where are you going where have you been" this point is explicitly expressed in the title alone. One
of the interpretations of this short story is that a man named Arnold Friend liberated a young
rebellious girl, Connie, from the torment of her youth. However, in reality the audience is eluded to
the symbolism that Connie is being pulled away from her "golden" innocence and into the arms of
Satan himself. Arnold Friend exhibits Satanic traits, and on this symbolic level, a young girl being
stripped from her childhood, and into an unforgiving world. The story reveals that Arnold Friend is
no boy or friend, he is referred to as a devil–like character. As the story progresses, signs are
observed that highlight the rebellious girl as she sneaks out, omits information from her parents and
is sucked into the "teenage" culture of the time. One Sunday Connie's family woke up and, "–none
of them bothered with church–" (Oates), Sunday, in religious settings is historically the Lords Day.
Oates isolates this sentence with dashes to set it apart from the rest of the story, foreshadowing the
future satanic references. These dashes are used to symbolize that this Sunday takes a strange turn,

The Importance Of Righteousness In The Book Of Job
Book of Job
Job was a righteous man who feared God and upheld divine standards. He abounded in gifts of
mercy and acts of godly devotion. Job routinely offered sacrifices to atone for his children's sins.
Hence, God was quite pleased to observe as His servant maintained integrity in his dealings
(Carney, 2014). The Almighty spoke about Job's godly devotion to Satan the Devil. It was then that
the latter questioned Job's motives. In fact, Satan claimed that Job was primarily concerned with
selfish interests. The Devil accused God of providing inordinate protection to his servant. In this
regard, the Almighty was presumed to have bribed Job. God saw it fit to allow Satan to bring trials
upon Job to test the patriarch's motives (Carney, 2014). In this essay, I will highlight the significance
of righteousness in the debates between Job and his friends.
Job's debate with his friends was precipitated by the former's determination to uphold righteous
standards. Notably, Job experienced tremendous tribulations due to Satan's efforts. His 10 children
died while his livestock was killed. Job's servants also died under mysterious circumstances.
Unfortunately, his wife deserted and mocked him for his faith in God. In fact, she taunted him to
curse God and die. Nevertheless, these events could not break Job's integrity. Satan was determined
to intensify his physical attacks on Job. The patriarch was struck with a debilitating illness that
subjected him to constant pain (Carney, 2014).

Dr Faustus as a Tragedy
Q.1. Discuss Dr Faustus as a tragedy.
Tragedy – Definition
Aristotle defines a tragedy as a 'representation of an action which is important, complete and limited
in length. It is enacted not recited and by arousing pity and fear, it gives an outlet to emotions of this
type.'
However, for the Elizabethans, more specifically for Marlowe and Shakespeare, tragedy is not a
restrictive view of human excellence or weakness as the Greeks are often inclined to present but an
affirmative view of human aspirations whose pursuit brings a glory to the definition of a man.
Struggle, conflict, suffering and failure may be the inescapable attendants but the human spirit is not
stifled in its pursuits by what attends to them. The ability to withstand ... Show more content on

Divinity adieu:
These metaphysics of magicians,
And necromantic books are heavenly:
The Strength of theTragedy
The play is a human tragedy for not only is Faustus tragically constituted in his boundless ambitions
but, at the same time, the play questions the effectiveness of the cultural aspirations that shape his
ambitions. Consequently, the play provides a complex interaction between the human dimensions of
the dramatic character and the ambiguities and ambivalences of the cultural situation the character is
placed in.
Yet while the play seems to offer a very basic Christian message–that one should avoid temptation
and sin, and repent if one cannot avoid temptation and sin–its conclusion can be interpreted as
straying from orthodox Christianity in order to conform to the structure of tragedy.
In a traditional tragic play, as pioneered by the Greeks and imitated by William Shakespeare, a hero
is brought low by an error or series of errors and realizes his or her mistake only when it is too late.
In Christianity, though, as long as a person is alive, there is always the possibility of repentance–so
if a tragic hero realizes his or her mistake, he or she may still be saved even at the last moment. But
though Faustus, in the final, wrenching scene, comes to his senses and begs for a chance to repent, it
is too

The Jersey Devil
The Jersey Devil sipped his wine from a pint glass through a straw and turned his dull white eyes up
to mine. We have met together enough times now for me to tell when something is bothering him.
We were scheduled to talk about the killing his mother today but, it did not look like he had it in
him. "Are you ready to talk?" I asked him. He grunted in his obscene manner in response to the
question. Apparently, he was not in the mood for matricide today. "All she ever did was tend her
garden and talk about how in love with dad she had been. Ironically, her favorite line of sweet talk
from him was, 'I love you. Everyday, and twice on Sundays.' It was sickening." "Why sickening?" I
had to ask. He stared through my eyes and seemed to speak directly into my brain, 'Because of who
my father is.' Up until that point, I had figured that he was a mutant or even a curse of some sort.
Never did the thought cross my mind that he was the spawn of something truly evil. "God had sent
his son Jesus," he spat on the floor, "to Earth more than 2000 years ago. Almost 18 centuries later,
Satan became sick of hearing about the supposed savior of man. So, being spiteful and hating God
more than anything, he designed himself a brother. He called his brother Josiah because, he liked the
name." I said, "I never knew Satan had a brother and I certainly have never heard of Josiah." It

Pros And Cons Of Doctor Faustus
The idea of selling your soul to the devil for knowledge has been around for as long as Doctor
Faustus. Christopher Marlowe's play dealt with this controversial topic in 1590's. The story of
Doctor Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of years ago. This paper will be a study
of the pros and cons of the idea of selling your soul to the devil.
Doctor Faustus was a well–respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with traditional forms
of knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to learn magic so two of his friends
promised to teach him the secrets of black magic. The first thing he did was summon
Mephasthophilis, one of Lucifer's servants. Since Doctor Faustus had great ambitions he told
Mephasthophilis to go back to Lucifer so he could strike a deal with the devil to learn everything in
the world. For twenty–four years of service from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is evidence to support both. For example in the essay by Elizabeth Poole she discusses his
original goal that starts all this. His ambition to know and see things that no other human has seen
before is considered highly romantic. The way he handles himself after making the deal is the
tragedy. Sadly he is presented with several chances to repent but he refuses. Ms. Poole discusses his
denial of God and his wish for knowledge and control over nature. In Act 2 Scene 1, pg 16–19 he is
confronted by opposing angels–good and bad. Faustus says : "Contrition, Prayer, repentance "what
of these?" the good angel replies: "O, they are means to bring thee unto heaven." the bad angel says:
"Rather illusions, fruits of lunacy. That make them foolish that do use the most." Faustus chooses

University of Kazan and later joined an artillery regiment. He took part in the Crimean War in 1854
and when the war was over; he resigned from his commission and went abroad. There he hoped to

ignorance.
Tolstoy began writing books and stories in his early 20s. His important works are War and Peace,

Her motto and desires in life do not bring any new aspects to the orphan/regular girl archetype,
which is exactly why it is an irresponsible text.
Cinderella just wants to belong and fears being left out which continues to prolong the traditional
orphan archetype. Ever since Cinderella lost both her parents, she worries she is unwanted by all.
Her Stepmother and Stepsisters do not help put her mind at ease, as they threat her like she was

"God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all." –1 John 1:5
Change Your Mind, Transform Your Life
Winning the battle isn 't always easy, but renewing our minds is simple. I made a choice not to agree
with lies and eventually the temptation to believe in depression stopped. I had to fight, sometimes
VIOLENTLY, to remember who God is, that He is light, that He is good, that He encourages and
comforts and provides. And when I know who God is I can also identify His enemy, evil, and turn
away from it.
Paul our forefather exhorted us, "Don 't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God

Boxers' rebellion event in China in the 19th century.
It is narrated that the main character was born as the fourth child in a family. Four is a bad number

The catechism classes have convinced Four Girl to embrace Christianity. So she was then baptized

The Jersey Devil : The Tale Of The Devil
In 1735, there was a lady named Deborah Leeds who lived wither husband, Daniel, in the Pine
Barrens of New Jersey. Mrs. Leeds was the mother of twelve children. "Daniel was a good provider
for his family but was often absent and not very helpful when it came to the responsibilities of
taking care of the children" (McCloy, Miller). Mrs. Leeds was having her thirteenth child. Having
that many children to look after was, as I could only imagine, very difficult. While giving birth, in a
moment of weakness, Mrs. Leeds said, "I hope this one is not a child, I hope it is a devil" (McCloy,
Miller). When the child was born everything seemed to be fine. But then something went horribly
wrong. It is said that "the child, in moments, grew into a monster that was the size of two full men"
(McCloy, Miller). In one swoop of his arm he slit the throats of the mid wife and the other two
attendants, before disappearing through the chimney. The monster than retreated into the Pine
Barrens where it is said until this day he has continued to terrorize anyone foolish enough to cross
its path. This is the tale of the Jersey Devil. The tale of the Jersey Devil is one of the oldest tales in
folklore. It has survived through the ages. "People from New Jersey have spoken of it for more than
300 years now" (McCloy, Miller). Being born not too far away from New Jersey, this was a tale that
I heard often growing up. Like a lot of kids who just got their drivers licenses, I found myself

Doctor Faustus
Things aren't always as they appear to be. This is true in John Faustus's case in terms of his
relationship with Mephistopheles and in turn the devil himself. Poor Faustus believes it is he who
has called upon the demon Mephistopheles and it is his tongue that orders the servant of hell, yet he
could not be any more mistaken. In reality, Faustus is the one with strings attached to him and it is
Lucifer, Mephistopheles, and the Evil Angel playing the role of the puppeteer. Nevertheless, Faustus
remains a student to the ideology of Christianity throughout his adventures, even amongst the
bleakest of hours. God never leaves the side of John Faustus, as He relentlessly tries to bring
Faustus back onto the path of righteousness.

Faustus would have been better off knowing where he stood in relation to Gods plan and not trying
to outreach himself. Faustus agreed with the views and opinions of Christianity, and followed those
ideas most of his life, lust consumed him though and lead him to excess. Doctor Faustus should
have learned from his studies of theology of the dangers brought on by overstepping ones
boundaries in an attempt for an excess of earthly desires.
Evil is better in the moment, as goodness is better later on. This is the message given to us by
Christopher Marlowe in his play Doctor Faustus. Faustus let the Evil Trinity persuade him into
instant pleasures, such as money, women, humor, and knowledge in order to take away the
everlasting pleasure that God could provide through Heaven. The infernal powers were blinders to
him, limiting his view and perception of the bigger picture and what truly mattered. One should
never lose sight of the bigger picture, of their end goal, in all that they do, whether it be in school, or
in sports, or in life. Instant pleasures, as Doctor Faustus found out, often times lead toward empty

The Conception of Evil in Byron's Dramas: Manfred, Cain, Heaven and Earth, The Deformed
Transformed.
The depictions of and ideas about evil in Byron's dramas Cain, The Deformed Transformed, Heaven
and Earth and Manfred are fairly common between the four texts. On the basic level, evil is seen as
a force opposite to good, which all humans have the potential for. Only some humans express this
potential, and their downfall into evil is often brought about by temptation, usually from a divine
being. God punishes evil. This interpretation of evil is problematic, however. Because God
administers punishment, evil becomes anything that questions the omnipotence of God. The hint
that God himself may have an evil side is a truth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Byronic Hero as exemplified in these dramas by Cain, Arnold, Manfred and Japhet, questions
the truth of this assertion, and the questioning itself is a heresy, a sin.
On Cain's return from his experience with Lucifer, he describes to Adah the conclusions he has
come to about God and the nature of evil. Simply from these words, not from any sinful deed Cain
does, Adah is able to conclude that "Thy guide hath done thee evil" (Cain Act III). His "sin" here is
merely questioning why he should suffer for his parent's crimes. Japhet's only sin is to question why
the Sons of Cain cannot be saved, yet he is admonished by Noah for this sin – "with thy tongue/ Do
God no wrong!/ Live as he wills it – die, when he ordains" (Heaven and Earth Act I Scene III).
Noah sees God as so far above and controlling of humanity that for him to change his will "for a
mere mortal sorrow" would be "a sin".
Evil has also to do with over–ambition and pride. Cain is rebuked by Lucifer for wanting to know
too much – "Dust! Limit thy ambition!" Noah entreats Japhet not to question the Divine will.
Manfred's punishment continues because of his pride, as he refuses to accept the help of the Witch
of the Alps.
Despite this hubristic idea of evil as humans overreaching their natural boundaries, there is no

Essay on Motivations for Faustus's Rebellion
In the Faust legend, a man by the name of Faust or Faustus sells his soul to the devil for twenty–four
years of ultimate worldly power. Although the tale of this German scholar/ magician called Johann
Faust or Faustus has been re–told many times over, no version has become more prominent and
controversial in English literature and history than that of Christopher Marlowe's play first
published eleven years after his death in 1604. Marlowe's reworking is possibly the first
dramatization of the medieval myth of a man who sold his soul to the Devil, and who became

Marlowe used many conventions of the medieval morality play, a popular form which uses a variety
of allegory and narrates the gradual education of its hero into an understanding of the difference
between essentially right and wrong. He modified this traditional form for Doctor Faustus and fitted
it to the legend where conventionally the hero invariably comes to the conclusion of the play a wiser
and better man, but due to the satanic nature of Faustus's rebellion he inevitably falls to his doom
and is dragged screaming to Hell. But what were his motivations for such a seditious rebellion with
inevitably disastrous consequences? Was he just bored and wanted more of a challenge so cast aside
any previous knowledge of religious consequences when intellectual and supernatural supremacy is
used for bad and not for good? The Chorus provide us with a clear synopsis of a few but compact

That shortly he was graced with doctor's name,

Jersey Devil Myths
Over the past 275 years, over 2,000 witnesses have reported seeing the Jersey Devil according to
Nat Geo Wild. The myth originates from the eighteenth century in a forest called the '' Pine Barrens''
which is located in New Jersey. The creature goes by many names such as "Hoodle–Doodle Bird",
"Wozzle Bug" and the "Leeds Devil". The myth says a mother who was a witch was having her
thirteenth child. Thirteen is usually known as a unlucky number , and a witch is someone with the
ability to wield magic powers that are used for evil. She cursed the child and cried out "oh, let this
one be a devil!". Many say this is what caused the child to become what it became. When it was
born it mutated into a what today is called the Jersey devil. It had a kangaroo like body, batlike
wings, and the head of a goat. It looked like something straight out of hell. Frightened residents
decided to have a local minister to exorcise the "Jersey Devil" in 1740. It sounds like a scene

Essay about Spiritual Warfare, Doctrines and...
Silencing the enemy is a very fitting title for this book. It is fitting because the author, Robert Gay,
explains how God suppresses the devices of the adversary through the praise and worship of His
people. Although the term "spiritual warfare" is not found in scripture, Paul expounds on the
concept throughout the New Testament. He encourages the saints to "Put on the whole armor of God
that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil". This scripture informs us that we are in a
battle, a battle that has been raging since the beginning of time. It is not a battle that one can see
with the naked eye. Nor is it a battle that is fought with natural weapons. It is a battle that is fought
in the spirit world. Our methods of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bible informs us that as they sung and praised God the Moabite armies became disoriented and
began to fight one another. Perhaps this is why we schedule the choirs and praise teams to minister
before the preached Word. Singing spiritual hymns to God will soften the hearts and prepare our
minds for what God has to say to us. Once our hearts are "plowed" or softened we can receive with
joy the assignments or correction God will give to us.
The author helps us to understand exactly who our enemy is and who our enemy is not. Our enemy
is not flesh and blood but, "principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places". People are often
used by demonic spirits to act in adverse ways. We must never target people as our foes. The enemy
would love to have us overlook him and turn on one another. Our brothers and sisters are not who
we should fight. It is the spirit behind them using them to distract us into doing something we will
later regret.
Our God is loving, kind and merciful, but there is another side to His personality, the side that
defends and fights for His people. Paul declares we must know the "goodness and severity of God."
To understand the full character of God we must read the entire Bible. God is a lover of His creation
and He is a warrior who fights for those whom He loves. The author makes an excellent point that
since we are made in His image we must take on every aspect of the character

Essay on Ghost Story of the New Jersey Devil
The New Jersey Devil
The Legend of the Jersey Devil is the most prominent legend that is told to citizens of New Jersey;
it is mainly told to elementary school aged children. There are a variety of settings that the story has;
however, the most common location that is used when retelling the tale is Leeds Point, NJ, which is
in the Pine Barrens region of the state. This tale of the Jersey Devil recounts the existence of a
supernatural creature that is said to have terrorized the New Jersey Pine Barrens and surrounding
areas for the last 260 years. The teller of this version of the legend is a Caucasian female who is
eighteen years of age and attends the University of Maryland. She comes from a middle class family

After a few months of being confined to the basement, the devil flapped its wings and flew out the
chimney, and the Shrouds family never saw it again. People's animals started to disappear, and they
blamed the devil for it. They said that it started to kill and eat the flocks. Some people even said that
the Jersey Devil would terrorize little children because it was jealous it could never be a normal
child. Ever since then, the devil has been spotted in different places in the New Jersey Pine Barrens,
making that same screaming noise.
There exist many different types of storylines about the New Jersey Devil. Despite these
discrepancies, most of the versions have the name "Leeds" involved. For example, in the version
that I collected, Mrs. Shrouds lived in Leeds Point; however, in other forms of this story, the
woman's name was Mrs. Leeds. Most tales of the New Jersey Devil involve this woman who had
one too many children and placed a cursed on her unborn child. This tale also ties into the study of
magic since the mother of the Jersey Devil cursed her unborn child, causing it to be born as the
deformed creature that it is known to be today. In some cases, as in the story described above,
numerological superstition plays a roll and the devil is the thirteenth child, while other versions
maintain that the child was actually the sixth or seventh to be born into the family. Another account

Post Puritan Examples Of Jeremiads
1. To understand post–Puritan examples of jeremiads, one must understand what a jeremiad is. A
jeremiad is writing that denounces society and articulates about its' downfall. Post–Puritan examples
of jeremiads can be found throughout history. For example, The General Court in Massachusetts
opened each year since 1634–1690 with an election sermon but, eventually the sermons turned into
jeremiads. Samuel Danforth gave a sermon called A Brief Recognition of New England's Errand
into the Wilderness, which is a famous sermon about how the "colony has deviated from its' original
purpose". This sermon set standards for many of the next jeremiads. A more recent example, is
David Howard–Pitney and his work that "Appeals for Justice in America". Pitney wrote the book
The African American Jeremiad, which is a filled with Pitney's examinations of African American
leaders. It is filled with the faith of "America's perfectibility" and "hope for social justice" and
shows that the "African American jeremiad is still vibrant". The jeremiad has remained a central
component of the rhetoric of American public life because there will always be corruption within
society and there will always be someone that will try to mend and shape civilization. From the
Puritan days, where people were fighting to purify the church, to today, where people are fighting
for sexual equality, there will always be uses of jeremiads. Many churches still think that society is
corrupt and express how gay people are

Essay on Symbollism in Goodman Brown
Symbollism in Goodman Brown The Symbolism in Nathan Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown"
begins before the story starts. The first sign of symbolism is in the title of the story. The word
"young" is used in saying that Mr. Brown is young in his marriage and in his maturity. The next
word "Goodman" was a term used in Hawthorne's day as a man under a gentleman. This fits Mr.
Brown because he is no one special, only to his friends and family.
Symbolism is strewn throughout the story in what seems like every word. In the beginning of the
story, the phrase "Faith, as the wife was so aptly named" shows that the word "Faith" is not only his
wife's name, rather it is also the "Faith" one must have to believe in religion. Mr. Brown's ... Show

When he meets the devil, He is told that he is late. As if they were supposed to meet. This could be
related to people having there certain time to meet "Death" as it were. Mr. Brown does not question
there meeting, rather he says that "Faith" held him back. Faith is used again as a symbol. The first
being that his wife Faith held him back. The other being that faith in God held him back from going
to the Devil.
As Mr. Brown goes deeper in the forest with the Devil, he notices his staff which resembles a
serpent. This is obviously a literary allegory to the story of Adam and Eve in the bible in which a
serpent, the most slyest and keen of all animals, convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge.
This seems like a symbol where later on in the story, When Mr. Brown is deeper in the forest, he
learns things about the people in the town that he never knew, nor did he want to know.
As Mr. Brown goes farther into the forest with the Devil, the Devil begins to use people that Mr.
Brown knows to break him. First by saying that he was with his father while burning witches in
earlier years, also by showing him Goody Close in the forest picking up the staff that the Devil
throws down at her feet without any argument. Seeing this breaks him but he still is strong. Finally

Edward Taylor And Anne Bradstreet
Throughout this class we have read different types of literature from many different authors. Some
of the material I truly enjoyed and some of it not so much. I really enjoyed the Native American
literature that we started out with in the beginning of the semester. I think the Native Americans are
beautiful people who appreciated the land more than most. The Native Americans were smart people
who used short stories such as The Chief's Daughters and Coyote and Bear to warn their readers of
dangers or teach them moral lessons. I also enjoyed authors such as Edward Taylor, Anne
Bradstreet, and Thomas Paine. I did not like reading William Byrd's material, chiefly because he
was rude and spoke nastily of the Native Americans. It personally offended me that he thought their
belief of afterlife to be "gross and sensual".
I have read material from many different authors and although I enjoyed most of them, I have to say
that my two favorites were Edward Taylor and Anne Bradstreet. Both of these authors are Puritans,
and it is easy to tell when reading their pieces. Puritans typically write in simple language, and
always refer to God. Edward Taylor created a powerful analogy in his piece, Upon a Spider
Catching a Fly. The analogy that he describes is an analogy between people and Satan. The spider
represents the devil, who is manipulative and wants to trap people in his web of sin. The wasp
represents someone who is strong in their faith and does not let themselves get trapped in

The Great Divorce And The Screwtape Letters
C.S. Lewis was born on November 29, 1898 in Belfast, Ireland. Lewis went to Oxford University
and focused on literature and classic philosophy. His most popular work is the children's series The
Chronicles of Narnia. This book series has been loved by many readers for decades and movies have
also been made. ("C.S. Lewis Biography.") One of the great things that Lewis was able to do with
his novels are that he could hide a deeper meaning in different characters and even make the entire
novel a lesson that teaches his readers something while they are reading. C.S. Lewis was very
involved about talking about religion and has a very good way of teaching about heaven, hell, sin,
and temptation in a way that is different from all other writers. In life people face struggles that can
cause them to have hatred or be depressed. C.S. Lewis talks a lot about temptation and not being
able to find God in one's life. In the novels The Great Divorce and The Screwtape Letters he takes
his readers on a ride of sadness, depression, and hatred.
In The Great Divorce, it is all about being lost and showing how hard it is to find the way to the
right path. C.S. Lewis puts a new spin on how someone will see hell, satan, and purgatory. There is
not much happiness in life when there is nothing but temptation and hatred in front of that person.

not possible when doubt fills a person's

Analysis Of The Movie ' Miracle On Ice ' By Gavin O ' Conner
Every hockey player has heard the soundbite of Al Michaels shouting "Do you believe in Miracles?
Yes!" after the 1980 American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union.
During a time of uneasiness and frustration towards the current political climate, the young
American hockey team gave the public something to be proud about. A true "miracle on ice" gave
the country a strong presence within the hockey world. Going into the game against the Soviets in
the semifinals of the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches
known to date. This speech was portrayed word for word in the Disney film, Miracle, released in
2004 directed by Gavin O'Conner. Although Herb Brooks' rhetoric sounds as if he is referencing the
Cold War, that did not seem to be the case. Herb's rhetoric seemed to be solely hockey driven: his
significant playing and coaching career as well as his astonishing dedication to the game uncover
his motivation prior to the miracle game. Close analysis and research reveals Herb and his players
have rejected many attempts of being used as a political pawn after defeating Russia in the miracle
on ice. This victory indeed boosted the nation's spirits regarding the war, but the game had little to
no impact on the outcome between the two governments.
The scene starts with the young American squad sits quietly around the dressing room knowing they
are the underdog and may be playing the last game of their Olympic career.

Holy Sonnet 14 Analysis
Holy Sonnet 14 presents the struggle between following one's faith and the alluring baseness of the
human experience. This work fixates on the ties the speaker has to Satan, and the inability to break
those ties without God's intervention. A vein of nearly mad desperation courses through the poem
from submissive start to subjugated end, culminating in a pained, almost violent plea for God to
ravish him. One can see how the speaker's desolation builds; he longs for God to break him down
and repair him, raise him up and "make [him] new" in the first quatrain, but by the final couplet he
embraces imprisonment, razing and ravishing. He believes himself unworthy of deliverance in such
a far fallen state, requiring trial and punishment before he can again live in the lord's light. An initial
hopefulness tempers the anguish of the opening quatrain, and the speaker obviously feels as if God
can still mend his corrupted heart. His restoration to a more holy image requires submission to the
agony of liberation from sin. An erratic syntax – littered with trochees, spondees, and anapests –
indicates a mercurial, near frenzied quality to his plea. Donne does not employ a single straight
iambic line in the entire poem; "BAT–ter", a trochee, punctuates the opening line, blunt and rough.
This imperative mood of the first verb establishes the urgency of the first quatrain, and the subtle
continuance of imperative verbs displays the prevailing tone of pleading, anxious desire for
salvation.

Essay on Satan in John Milton's Paradise Lost
Who is Satan?
Satan's definitions include the advocate of God, a personification of evil, the fallen angel, a spirit
created by God, and also the accuser. People see Satan differently, some know of his existence,
others think of him as just a myth, and there are those that just ignore him. John Milton's Paradise
Lost tells of Satan's banishment from Heaven and his gain of earth. He and his brigade have plotted
war against God and are now doomed to billow in the fiery pits of hell. Satan is a complex character
with many different qualities. God is a character who we, as Christians, know about but do not

God throws Satan and his followers into hell for their defiance. Satan shows rebellion towards God,
this is the first rebellion there ever was. According to Webster's dictionary rebellion is organized
opposition to authority, a conflict in which one faction tries to take control from another. I think
rebellion also includes disobedience. John Carrey says that in the epic "Satan concedes his own
criminality, and his own responsibility for his fall. He facilitates between remorse and defiance. He
confesses that his rebellion was completely unjustifiable, that he had the same freewill and power to
stand as all God's creatures, and that he therefore has nothing to accuse but heavens free love dealt
equally to all"(134). Basically Satan did this to himself. We do not really understand why Satan
defied God and we probably would not understand.
Satan goes from the most beautiful to the ugliest because of his defiance. John Carrey speaks of
Milton's Satan saying "Satan as archangel, before his fall, is never shown by Milton, but this stage
of his existence is often alluded to, as is the fact that some of his archangelic power powers remain,
though we cannot be quite sure which. Hence Satan, as a fictional character, gains a hidden
dimension and a 'past'" (133). We know Satan has a past, it is just not presented by Milton. Satan

It was stated that the man he encountered had known Browns' elders as well. Goodman was led to a
large assembly and he found many townspeople that he knew gathered around an altar surrounded
by burning trees. He recognized many of these faces and it changed the image he had toward them.
From the audiences' perspective, we understand many of the stories "characters have the names of
Salem residents charged with witchcraft; and its major action takes place in the noisy pasture
historical documents of, the period designate as a witches ' gathering place" (Bunge 434). At the
time, Brown had seen many of the people that attended the assembly to be sin free. This is symbolic
because the assembly takes place in what the audience knows to be as a town that has had numerous
witch trials. This led him to realize that everyone has their flaws but he may not be able to accept
them. This explains a concept of the story involving the loss of innocence. When he discovers the
town in this meeting, his faith is being tested. He is not able to cope and has reason to believe that
he is now held to a higher standard than others because the ones he thought were saints are no

smell. There is an other type of hound that is similar to a hellhound, its called a Yeth Hound. A yeth
hound stands 5 feet tall at the shoulder and weighs about 400 pounds. It looks similar to a
hellhound, but looks more like a cat. In 2010 a group of young men in Jacksonville, Florida had an
encounter with what they think were Hellhounds. The guys were messing around at a local baseball
park at night. As they walked from one part of the park to another, they felt the temperature drop
suddenly and significantly. As they walked on, one of the guys saw a creature out of the corner of
his eye. It was a dog, its body was about seven feet long and its head looked like a hollowed–out

The Beautiful World In France
Organ music rose to offer accompaniment as Lawrence led the assembly into song and into
receiving their healing. They stood to their feet and raised their arms in the air as a sign of
acceptance while joining their voices to present a melody of hymns. By this time, British
government leaders watching did not know if he was a saint or devil and could not decide to kill
him or praise him. The healing service went on into the late hours, as did the singing and praising of
God. Outside the assembly, Big Ben continued to toll, becoming entrenched in fog, obscuring the
true shape of the city so that no one would suspect a fitting was being made for a nation's death
shroud.
Two days later, Lawrence and his staff members arrived in Paris, the ... Show more content on

In the distance, dark clouds of unknown origin were thickening as a black curse covered the
continent. As for the government, the preparation they made for the healing service was to remain
invisible fearing giving Emmanuel an excuse to encroach on them as done to Venezuela and
Ecuador. Canada came into the news when it was learned they delivered their flag to Utopia and
offered to concede their country in the hope the plagues of rats and the like would be removed. The
flag of Canada was accepted and placed in a pile with the flags of Colombia, Venezuela, and
Ecuador. Come the evening of the event, all France held attention to the soon–to–start miracle
service. Like the others, it too was to be televised live across the country. As the final moment
arrived, viewers were being treated to the nervous excitement being formed outside the assembly.
Sidewalks were swelling with the overflow from groups belonging to conventional Christian
churches who came to demonstrate as an act of defiance. Helmeted riot police stood at the ready,
shoulder to shoulder, with attack dogs and tear gas in open display as a sign of strength. The
chanting and jeers would start and stop at the direction of no one leader. Demonstrators were
confident God looked on them with favor as He does to anyone who upholds the truth. As far as the
crowd was concerned, they were pure of heart and planned to remain unspoiled by any deceiving
doctrine. Lawrence's

Dr. Faustus Essay
Pride, Insolence and the Fall of Doctor Faustus
As a highly revered individual – a doctor of theology who is also involved in liberal arts, medicine
and law – Doctor Faustus possesses limitless knowledge. Nonetheless, unfortunately the more
people know the more curious, thirsty and greedy for knowledge they become. Thus, wanting to
know more and therefore, gain supernatural power, Faustus creates his own fall through pride,
insolence and child–like behavior – the by–products of the dominating id that overpowers the
superego in this particular case.
The above excerpt was provided to make the student aware of the focus of the essay, the complete
paper begins below:
"...Man builds towels of the spirit from which he may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to A Handbook of Critical Approaches of Literature, the id represents the pleasure
principle of human psyche with instinctual gratification, heedless of consequence, as its one and
only concern. Accordingly, the superego and the ego compete with the overpowering id, which
results in Faustus' fall. On the other hand, the superego stands for the "inhibiting agent" or the
morality principle and the "representative of all moral restrictions and the advocate of the impulse
toward perfection" (130). Therefore, the ego remains the only factor of the psyche to create a
healthy social balance of the two extremes, which definition justifies the descriptions of "the reality
principle" or "the mediator". However, Faustus' id does not leave room for any counteraction from
the superego, or at least not enough, allowing his pride and insolence to completely take over his
personality.
The chorus informs the reader, and at the same time gives him/her a foresight of Faustus' flourishing
appearance on the beginning of the play:
Till swoll'n with cunning, of a self–conceit,
His waxen wings did mount above his reach
And melting, heavens conspired his overthrow! [I.i; 19–21]
With the same idea the chorus also conveys the tragic and parody–like end of Faustus' life:
Faustus is gone: regard his hellish fall,
Whose fiendful fortune may exhort the wise
Only to wonder at unlawful things,
Whose deepness

Myth Essay

  • 1. Myth Essay Kayla Manney 14 January 2013 English 3 Myth Essay "How flip–flops got their flop." There once was a goddess with a mystical power that made everyone happy; as long as she was happy they were happy. That goddess' name was Ella. Ella has a twin brother named Evan. Evan has the power of mind–control. Ella lived high in the sky on clouds amongst the other god. Ella and the other gods got along very well especially when she was in a good mood. After living in the clouds for a very long time all the gods got tired of doing regular deeds for themselves. They decided to do something big to create something. They all joined together in a big circle around the largest cloud and spun around three–hundred–and–sixty–five times. As they all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fresh was the god of fire. After hearing what the serpent had suggested just to be on the safe side Ella, agreed with this collaboration. Ella really didn't want to have Fresh involved because bad things tend to happen when he is around. When Ella first heard of the words come out of the serpents mouth she threw the shoe. While in the air the shoe did a flip and it hit a tree made a big WHACK, and had a very loud FLOP. Ella liked that sound, she wanted to hear it again so she threw shoe again. Finally Fresh came, to tighten the knots with fire. He rubbed his thumb and middle finger together and a spark of fire appeared. As soon as the spark appeared he put the fire on the knots and then snapped to make the fire go away. As soon as Ella saw the finished product she was amazed. She tried the shoe on it had a strap like a v shape. She remembered when she threw the shoe how it flipped and then made a loud FLOP. She named these shoes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Wonderful Discoverie Of Elizabeth Sawyer, A Witch,... In this document commentary I will be analysing and commentating on an extract from Henry Goodcole's pamphlet, The Wonderful Discoverie of Elizabeth Sawyer, a Witch, late of Edmonton. Her Conviction and Condemation and Death. (London, 1621). I will be seeing how if the contemporary public felt the same way and how this relates to the history of witchcraft. Henry Goodcole was a 'prison visitor and author [and was] best known for a series of criminal biographies, arising from his experiences as ordinary and recounting his attempts to extort confessions from the condemned in the prison'. The most famous of his visits was to Elizabeth Sawyer, who was suspected of being a witch. 'His pamphlet on the Sawyer case included the confession he had elicited from the condemned witch while preparing her spiritually for execution'. Before sixteenth century, the ability to read and write was low. But during the century there was growth in education for the public and illiteracy was decreasing. 'It is estimated that in 1600 about 10 per cent of women in England were literate; by 1700 this had risen to perhaps 30 per cent'. In 1650 the male literacy rate 'rose to almost a half'. The biggest form of reading was through reading print and 'it was this mode of literacy that provided the foundation for pamphlet culture'. Despite the low literacy rates many peoples workplaces 'allowed them to hear texts they could not read instead'. 'Elizabeth Sawyer, was a poor woman of obscure origins ... • 3. The Tale Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Once upon a time, a poor peasant lived with his seven quarreling sons in a cozy cottage amidst the enveloping woods. All of the peasant's sons had an extremely cold heart and a selfish mind except the youngest, Lumio. He was different. A charming boy he was; an outgoing personality he possessed. And of course, his older brothers, especially Fuscus, grew more and more envious of him until one day, they succumbed to the envy as they could take it no more. You see, all the brothers loved an enchanting princess who ruled over their small plot of land. Day after day, and night after night, they cared only about the princess and none other. They saw their youngest brother as a vexing, immediate hindrance to their already slim chances of impressing the so–desired princess as they feared that if the princess met Lumio, the couple would forever be knit, and so, the story continues. Frustrated, the jealous brothers devised a wicked, desperate plot to rid themselves of their annoying hindrance, their brother. Fuscus, the oldest brother, spoke. "Have you heard of the deep, dank well beyond the wood? Legend has it that the well is cursed to be the lair of the Golden Devil. What say?" And so, the next day, Lumio and his brothers walked to the well in silence. A repeated, resonating caw from a raven made even Fuscus himself turn cold with fear as if it was a glaring reminder of the terrible deed he would perform very soon. Closer and closer the well drew, each step, a mile. Poor Lumio ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" "Pray the Devil Back to Hell." Recently we watched "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" in English class. A few of the social issues addressed were: poverty, peace and women's rights. The women were so fed up with how their president has been treating everyone. He got young children to run around with guns and hurt innocent people. Everyone was so below poverty that children were starving to death and there was nothing the parents could do because they themselves were starving. The women wanted so badly to have peace to stop the war, the fighting, and the poverty. The women just wanted a say in what was happening around them, to get a chance to stop it all. To me this movie really teaches you to stay strong, keep motivated and most importantly that anyone can be successful. This movie taught me so much about prevalence and how the power of good over comes evil. Those women prayed so much that they got so much accomplished and they got so many things to change for the better. In my future I will use this movie as a motivation tool and as a way to remind myself that even though times are hard they will get better you just have to hold on. Also in the future I will use this movie to show that anything is possible if you have help from those you love and believe in. Overall I thought this was a really good movie. I thought it taught you a lot about diversity, women's rights, poverty and peace. • 5. Analysis Of The Book ' The Garden ' For those who haven 't learned the truth of what happened in the garden. It is a crucial teaching to learn that makes the whole bible come more alive , among other teachings that aren 't taught in your average church Let 's go to Genesis and see what happened in the garden. Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? You now know who this "serpent" is who was more subtle, meaning cunningly wise, than any "beast" of the field, which means any other living, created being, human or otherwise! So the PICTURE you now need to place in your mind is one of a very smart, good looking, handsome young man who is very, very charming and likeable and intelligent and well spoken. Got it? That old serpent has perpetuated a lie, a tradition, about the "snake" and the "apple" long enough. Do not let him have the victory any more! Again, it is his diabolical plan to deceive a Biblically ignorant people, "because it ministers to the acceptance of his lie, the hiding of God 's truth, the jeers of the infidel, the opposition of the critics, and the stumbling of the weak in faith." (Companion Bible, appendix 19, last paragraph.) By the way, the apostle Paul also refers to this "serpent" in the garden in 2 Cor. 11:3: 2 Cor. 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted ... Relationships are all around, even if it is not obvious. Relationships can range anywhere from friends to marriages. There are many different types of relationships, (comma or semicolon?) none of which are alike. Although, most people see relationships as good, some of them are bad and unhealthy. They can sometimes cause major problems that affect the people involved and others too. Relationships can also be between groups of people. Many stories have racism in them which is a perfect example of bad relationships with groups of people. Almost all good stories have relationships in them which shows that relationships are vital to American Literature. Having relationships is common and natural. People interact daily so the formation of new relationships is unavoidable(Welch). C. Welch created good questions concerning human nature and relationships like, "Should we conform or be original?" "What is the best way to live together?" and "How do we deal with death?" The questions about life can also be used in literature. There are many basic questions that could be ask to find out the main theme, why it is the theme, and what other less important themes are when dealing with relationships in stories(Welch). Relationships are important enough that some stories are based almost solely on relationships. Problems with relationships helped create the plot of the story in "The Crucible," by ... Dilemma at Devil's Den CASE STUDY ON DILEMMAAT DEVIL'S DEN INTRODUCTION In the case study of the Dilemma at Devil's Den, we have a student snack bar Devil's Den, which was managed by contract with an external company College Food Services (CFS) that had many organizational challenges that needed to be immediately addressed. An employee Susan realized these challenges. One of the main many problems was the theft that was going on for a long time. The employees were allowing their friends to take free food, and they themselves were also taking food in large quantities when leaving their shifts. The storage room could be easily accessible as it was unlocked all the time. Employees took advantage of this situation to take free freebies from the storage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ANALYSIS The management system at CFS has, till now, been an unprofessional work environment with a most casual and unconcerned stance towards its employees' immoral ways. The employees, mostly fresher's, are devoid of any previous experience of a workplace, causing them to adopt their own set of rules and regulations on being introduced into such a careless work scenario. Added to that is the low paying job, subject to growth by a mere 15% after promotion, along with the pressures of long working hours and overnight shifts is tempting them towards ulterior means. The unchecked ways of these newbies has led to a lot of loss to the Devil's Den, both in financial terms as well as in terms of its reputation before customers who too are taking advantage of the situation. This informal attitude of employees has led to an unprecedented state of affairs wherein Susan needs to step in and take a stance between her moral beliefs and gains of a more personal nature. She needs to analyze the pros and cons of each dilemma that she faces. As the student management is not willing to take action on this matter, Susan could, abiding by her values, approach the co– workers and demand that this immoral activity be stopped. However, this may turn the group against her and she may, eventually, be forced from her position. Alternatively, Susan could wait till she is appointed as a manager in the ... He can't force you and I to do anything that is outside our will or the will of God. All he can do is tempt you. He doesn't have that kind of authority over us, where he can make you do anything. The Bible says that we are drawn away by our own lusts when we do something that is outside of God's Word and will for our lives. You're drawn away because that's what you wanted to do, and then we try to find every excuse in the book to justify doing it. I'm here to tell you that you'll never be able to qualify it. You will never ever be able to satisfy yourself with the thought "I was justified in doing it" if you're going to be a man of integrity. A man of integrity has nothing to hide, nothing to fear. You are always a stand–up man, and you will always be an individual who others can depend and count on. But most of all, a man of integrity is always true to his word. When you make promises, keep them. Don't be a liar. A man of integrity is not a liar; he keeps his word. The Bible says in Psalm 15, "When you're living with integrity, you'll tell the truth even when you're older. • 12. Symbolism Of The Arnold Friend There is a point in the adolescence of a child in which they encounter a fork, that can lead one of two ways. The path they end up on is determined by their personal feelings toward the world, the way they have been raised, and who they want to become in the future. In the short story titled, "Where are you going where have you been" this point is explicitly expressed in the title alone. One of the interpretations of this short story is that a man named Arnold Friend liberated a young rebellious girl, Connie, from the torment of her youth. However, in reality the audience is eluded to the symbolism that Connie is being pulled away from her "golden" innocence and into the arms of Satan himself. Arnold Friend exhibits Satanic traits, and on this symbolic level, a young girl being stripped from her childhood, and into an unforgiving world. The story reveals that Arnold Friend is no boy or friend, he is referred to as a devil–like character. As the story progresses, signs are observed that highlight the rebellious girl as she sneaks out, omits information from her parents and is sucked into the "teenage" culture of the time. One Sunday Connie's family woke up and, "–none of them bothered with church–" (Oates), Sunday, in religious settings is historically the Lords Day. Oates isolates this sentence with dashes to set it apart from the rest of the story, foreshadowing the future satanic references. • 13. The Importance Of Righteousness In The Book Of Job Book of Job Job was a righteous man who feared God and upheld divine standards. He abounded in gifts of mercy and acts of godly devotion. Job routinely offered sacrifices to atone for his children's sins. Hence, God was quite pleased to observe as His servant maintained integrity in his dealings (Carney, 2014). The Almighty spoke about Job's godly devotion to Satan the Devil. It was then that the latter questioned Job's motives. In fact, Satan claimed that Job was primarily concerned with selfish interests. The Devil accused God of providing inordinate protection to his servant. In this regard, the Almighty was presumed to have bribed Job. God saw it fit to allow Satan to bring trials upon Job to test the patriarch's motives (Carney, 2014). In this essay, I will highlight the significance of righteousness in the debates between Job and his friends. Job's debate with his friends was precipitated by the former's determination to uphold righteous standards. Notably, Job experienced tremendous tribulations due to Satan's efforts. His 10 children died while his livestock was killed. Job's servants also died under mysterious circumstances. Unfortunately, his wife deserted and mocked him for his faith in God. In fact, she taunted him to curse God and die. Nevertheless, these events could not break Job's integrity. Satan was determined to intensify his physical attacks on Job. The patriarch was struck with a debilitating illness that subjected him to constant pain (Carney, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Dr Faustus as a Tragedy Q.1. Discuss Dr Faustus as a tragedy. Tragedy – Definition Aristotle defines a tragedy as a 'representation of an action which is important, complete and limited in length. It is enacted not recited and by arousing pity and fear, it gives an outlet to emotions of this type.' However, for the Elizabethans, more specifically for Marlowe and Shakespeare, tragedy is not a restrictive view of human excellence or weakness as the Greeks are often inclined to present but an affirmative view of human aspirations whose pursuit brings a glory to the definition of a man. Struggle, conflict, suffering and failure may be the inescapable attendants but the human spirit is not stifled in its pursuits by what attends to them. The ability to withstand ... Divinity adieu: These metaphysics of magicians, And necromantic books are heavenly: The Strength of theTragedy The play is a human tragedy for not only is Faustus tragically constituted in his boundless ambitions but, at the same time, the play questions the effectiveness of the cultural aspirations that shape his ambitions. Consequently, the play provides a complex interaction between the human dimensions of the dramatic character and the ambiguities and ambivalences of the cultural situation the character is placed in. Yet while the play seems to offer a very basic Christian message–that one should avoid temptation and sin, and repent if one cannot avoid temptation and sin–its conclusion can be interpreted as straying from orthodox Christianity in order to conform to the structure of tragedy. In a traditional tragic play, as pioneered by the Greeks and imitated by William Shakespeare, a hero is brought low by an error or series of errors and realizes his or her mistake only when it is too late. In Christianity, though, as long as a person is alive, there is always the possibility of repentance–so if a tragic hero realizes his or her mistake, he or she may still be saved even at the last moment. But though Faustus, in the final, wrenching scene, comes to his senses and begs for a chance to repent, it is too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"Are you ready to talk?" I asked him. He grunted in his obscene manner in response to the question. Apparently, he was not in the mood for matricide today. The depictions of and ideas about evil in Byron's dramas Cain, The Deformed Transformed, Heaven and Earth and Manfred are fairly common between the four texts. On the basic level, evil is seen as a force opposite to good, which all humans have the potential for. Only some humans express this potential, and their downfall into evil is often brought about by temptation, usually from a divine being. God punishes evil. The Byronic Hero as exemplified in these dramas by Cain, Arnold, Manfred and Japhet, questions the truth of this assertion, and the questioning itself is a heresy, a sin. On Cain's return from his experience with Lucifer, he describes to Adah the conclusions he has come to about God and the nature of evil. Simply from these words, not from any sinful deed Cain does, Adah is able to conclude that "Thy guide hath done thee evil" (Cain Act III). His "sin" here is merely questioning why he should suffer for his parent's crimes. Japhet's only sin is to question why the Sons of Cain cannot be saved, yet he is admonished by Noah for this sin – "with thy tongue/ Do God no wrong!/ Live as he wills it – die, when he ordains" (Heaven and Earth Act I Scene III). • 26. Jersey Devil Myths Over the past 275 years, over 2,000 witnesses have reported seeing the Jersey Devil according to Nat Geo Wild. The myth originates from the eighteenth century in a forest called the '' Pine Barrens'' which is located in New Jersey. The creature goes by many names such as "Hoodle–Doodle Bird", "Wozzle Bug" and the "Leeds Devil". The myth says a mother who was a witch was having her thirteenth child. Thirteen is usually known as a unlucky number , and a witch is someone with the ability to wield magic powers that are used for evil. She cursed the child and cried out "oh, let this one be a devil!". Many say this is what caused the child to become what it became. When it was born it mutated into a what today is called the Jersey devil. It had a kangaroo like body, batlike wings, and the head of a goat. It looked like something straight out of hell. Frightened residents decided to have a local minister to exorcise the "Jersey Devil" in 1740. It sounds like a scene straight out of a horror film. • 27. Essay about Spiritual Warfare, Doctrines and... Silencing the enemy is a very fitting title for this book. It is fitting because the author, Robert Gay, explains how God suppresses the devices of the adversary through the praise and worship of His people. Although the term "spiritual warfare" is not found in scripture, Paul expounds on the concept throughout the New Testament. He encourages the saints to "Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil". This scripture informs us that we are in a battle, a battle that has been raging since the beginning of time. It is not a battle that one can see with the naked eye. Nor is it a battle that is fought with natural weapons. It is a battle that is fought in the spirit world. Our methods of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bible informs us that as they sung and praised God the Moabite armies became disoriented and began to fight one another. Perhaps this is why we schedule the choirs and praise teams to minister before the preached Word. Singing spiritual hymns to God will soften the hearts and prepare our minds for what God has to say to us. Once our hearts are "plowed" or softened we can receive with joy the assignments or correction God will give to us. The author helps us to understand exactly who our enemy is and who our enemy is not. Our enemy is not flesh and blood but, "principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places". People are often used by demonic spirits to act in adverse ways. We must never target people as our foes. The enemy would love to have us overlook him and turn on one another. Our brothers and sisters are not who we should fight. It is the spirit behind them using them to distract us into doing something we will later regret. Our God is loving, kind and merciful, but there is another side to His personality, the side that defends and fights for His people. Paul declares we must know the "goodness and severity of God." To understand the full character of God we must read the entire Bible. God is a lover of His creation and He is a warrior who fights for those whom He loves. The author makes an excellent point that since we are made in His image we must take on every aspect of the character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Essay on Ghost Story of the New Jersey Devil The New Jersey Devil The Legend of the Jersey Devil is the most prominent legend that is told to citizens of New Jersey; it is mainly told to elementary school aged children. There are a variety of settings that the story has; however, the most common location that is used when retelling the tale is Leeds Point, NJ, which is in the Pine Barrens region of the state. This tale of the Jersey Devil recounts the existence of a supernatural creature that is said to have terrorized the New Jersey Pine Barrens and surrounding areas for the last 260 years. The teller of this version of the legend is a Caucasian female who is eighteen years of age and attends the University of Maryland. She comes from a middle class family and believes in the ... People's animals started to disappear, and they blamed the devil for it. They said that it started to kill and eat the flocks. Some people even said that the Jersey Devil would terrorize little children because it was jealous it could never be a normal child. Ever since then, the devil has been spotted in different places in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, making that same screaming noise. There exist many different types of storylines about the New Jersey Devil. Despite these discrepancies, most of the versions have the name "Leeds" involved. For example, in the version that I collected, Mrs. Shrouds lived in Leeds Point; however, in other forms of this story, the woman's name was Mrs. Leeds. Most tales of the New Jersey Devil involve this woman who had one too many children and placed a cursed on her unborn child. This tale also ties into the study of magic since the mother of the Jersey Devil cursed her unborn child, causing it to be born as the deformed creature that it is known to be today. In some cases, as in the story described above, numerological superstition plays a roll and the devil is the thirteenth child, while other versions maintain that the child was actually the sixth or seventh to be born into the family. • 29. Post Puritan Examples Of Jeremiads 1. To understand post–Puritan examples of jeremiads, one must understand what a jeremiad is. A jeremiad is writing that denounces society and articulates about its' downfall. Post–Puritan examples of jeremiads can be found throughout history. For example, The General Court in Massachusetts opened each year since 1634–1690 with an election sermon but, eventually the sermons turned into jeremiads. Samuel Danforth gave a sermon called A Brief Recognition of New England's Errand into the Wilderness, which is a famous sermon about how the "colony has deviated from its' original purpose". This sermon set standards for many of the next jeremiads. A more recent example, is David Howard–Pitney and his work that "Appeals for Justice in America". Pitney wrote the book The African American Jeremiad, which is a filled with Pitney's examinations of African American leaders. It is filled with the faith of "America's perfectibility" and "hope for social justice" and shows that the "African American jeremiad is still vibrant". The jeremiad has remained a central component of the rhetoric of American public life because there will always be corruption within society and there will always be someone that will try to mend and shape civilization. From the Puritan days, where people were fighting to purify the church, to today, where people are fighting for sexual equality, there will always be uses of jeremiads. Many churches still think that society is corrupt and express how gay people are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Essay on Symbollism in Goodman Brown Symbollism in Goodman Brown The Symbolism in Nathan Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown" begins before the story starts. The first sign of symbolism is in the title of the story. The word "young" is used in saying that Mr. Brown is young in his marriage and in his maturity. The next word "Goodman" was a term used in Hawthorne's day as a man under a gentleman. This fits Mr. Brown because he is no one special, only to his friends and family. Symbolism is strewn throughout the story in what seems like every word. In the beginning of the story, the phrase "Faith, as the wife was so aptly named" shows that the word "Faith" is not only his wife's name, rather it is also the "Faith" one must have to believe in religion. This could be related to people having there certain time to meet "Death" as it were. Mr. Brown does not question there meeting, rather he says that "Faith" held him back. Faith is used again as a symbol. The first being that his wife Faith held him back. The other being that faith in God held him back from going to the Devil. As Mr. Brown goes deeper in the forest with the Devil, he notices his staff which resembles a serpent. This is obviously a literary allegory to the story of Adam and Eve in the bible in which a serpent, the most slyest and keen of all animals, convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. This seems like a symbol where later on in the story, When Mr. Brown is deeper in the forest, he learns things about the people in the town that he never knew, nor did he want to know. As Mr. Brown goes farther into the forest with the Devil, the Devil begins to use people that Mr. Brown knows to break him. First by saying that he was with his father while burning witches in earlier years, also by showing him Goody Close in the forest picking up the staff that the Devil throws down at her feet without any argument. • 31. Edward Taylor And Anne Bradstreet Throughout this class we have read different types of literature from many different authors. Some of the material I truly enjoyed and some of it not so much. I really enjoyed the Native American literature that we started out with in the beginning of the semester. I think the Native Americans are beautiful people who appreciated the land more than most. The Native Americans were smart people who used short stories such as The Chief's Daughters and Coyote and Bear to warn their readers of dangers or teach them moral lessons. I also enjoyed authors such as Edward Taylor, Anne Bradstreet, and Thomas Paine. I did not like reading William Byrd's material, chiefly because he was rude and spoke nastily of the Native Americans. It personally offended me that he thought their belief of afterlife to be "gross and sensual". I have read material from many different authors and although I enjoyed most of them, I have to say that my two favorites were Edward Taylor and Anne Bradstreet. Both of these authors are Puritans, and it is easy to tell when reading their pieces. Puritans typically write in simple language, and always refer to God. Edward Taylor created a powerful analogy in his piece, Upon a Spider Catching a Fly. The analogy that he describes is an analogy between people and Satan. The spider represents the devil, who is manipulative and wants to trap people in his web of sin. The wasp represents someone who is strong in their faith and does not let themselves get trapped in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His most popular work is the children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. This book series has been loved by many readers for decades and movies have also been made. ("C.S. Lewis Biography.") One of the great things that Lewis was able to do with his novels are that he could hide a deeper meaning in different characters and even make the entire novel a lesson that teaches his readers something while they are reading. C.S. Lewis was very involved about talking about religion and has a very good way of teaching about heaven, hell, sin, and temptation in a way that is different from all other writers. In life people face struggles that can cause them to have hatred or be depressed. C.S. Lewis talks a lot about temptation and not being able to find God in one's life. In the novels The Great Divorce and The Screwtape Letters he takes his readers on a ride of sadness, depression, and hatred. In The Great Divorce, it is all about being lost and showing how hard it is to find the way to the right path. C.S. Lewis puts a new spin on how someone will see hell, satan, and purgatory. • 33. Analysis Of The Movie ' Miracle On Ice ' By Gavin O ' Conner Every hockey player has heard the soundbite of Al Michaels shouting "Do you believe in Miracles? Yes!" after the 1980 American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union. During a time of uneasiness and frustration towards the current political climate, the young American hockey team gave the public something to be proud about. A true "miracle on ice" gave the country a strong presence within the hockey world. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date. This speech was portrayed word for word in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by Gavin O'Conner. Although Herb Brooks' rhetoric sounds as if he is referencing the Cold War, that did not seem to be the case. Herb's rhetoric seemed to be solely hockey driven: his significant playing and coaching career as well as his astonishing dedication to the game uncover his motivation prior to the miracle game. Close analysis and research reveals Herb and his players have rejected many attempts of being used as a political pawn after defeating Russia in the miracle on ice. This victory indeed boosted the nation's spirits regarding the war, but the game had little to no impact on the outcome between the two governments. The scene starts with the young American squad sits quietly around the dressing room knowing they are the underdog and may be playing the last game of their Olympic career. ... • 34. Holy Sonnet 14 Analysis Holy Sonnet 14 presents the struggle between following one's faith and the alluring baseness of the human experience. This work fixates on the ties the speaker has to Satan, and the inability to break those ties without God's intervention. A vein of nearly mad desperation courses through the poem from submissive start to subjugated end, culminating in a pained, almost violent plea for God to ravish him. One can see how the speaker's desolation builds; he longs for God to break him down and repair him, raise him up and "make [him] new" in the first quatrain, but by the final couplet he embraces imprisonment, razing and ravishing. He believes himself unworthy of deliverance in such a far fallen state, requiring trial and punishment before he can again live in the lord's light. An initial hopefulness tempers the anguish of the opening quatrain, and the speaker obviously feels as if God can still mend his corrupted heart. His restoration to a more holy image requires submission to the agony of liberation from sin. An erratic syntax – littered with trochees, spondees, and anapests – indicates a mercurial, near frenzied quality to his plea. Donne does not employ a single straight iambic line in the entire poem; "BAT–ter", a trochee, punctuates the opening line, blunt and rough. This imperative mood of the first verb establishes the urgency of the first quatrain, and the subtle continuance of imperative verbs displays the prevailing tone of pleading, anxious desire for salvation. ... Satan shows rebellion towards God, this is the first rebellion there ever was. According to Webster's dictionary rebellion is organized opposition to authority, a conflict in which one faction tries to take control from another. I think rebellion also includes disobedience. John Carrey says that in the epic "Satan concedes his own criminality, and his own responsibility for his fall. He facilitates between remorse and defiance. He confesses that his rebellion was completely unjustifiable, that he had the same freewill and power to stand as all God's creatures, and that he therefore has nothing to accuse but heavens free love dealt equally to all"(134). Basically Satan did this to himself. We do not really understand why Satan defied God and we probably would not understand. Satan goes from the most beautiful to the ugliest because of his defiance. John Carrey speaks of Milton's Satan saying "Satan as archangel, before his fall, is never shown by Milton, but this stage of his existence is often alluded to, as is the fact that some of his archangelic power powers remain, though we cannot be quite sure which. Hence Satan, as a fictional character, gains a hidden dimension and a 'past'" (133). We know Satan has a past, it is just not presented by Milton. From the audiences' perspective, we understand many of the stories "characters have the names of Salem residents charged with witchcraft; and its major action takes place in the noisy pasture historical documents of, the period designate as a witches ' gathering place" (Bunge 434). At the time, Brown had seen many of the people that attended the assembly to be sin free. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to A Handbook of Critical Approaches of Literature, the id represents the pleasure principle of human psyche with instinctual gratification, heedless of consequence, as its one and only concern. Accordingly, the superego and the ego compete with the overpowering id, which results in Faustus' fall. On the other hand, the superego stands for the "inhibiting agent" or the morality principle and the "representative of all moral restrictions and the advocate of the impulse toward perfection" (130). Therefore, the ego remains the only factor of the psyche to create a healthy social balance of the two extremes, which definition justifies the descriptions of "the reality principle" or "the mediator". However, Faustus' id does not leave room for any counteraction from the superego, or at least not enough, allowing his pride and insolence to completely take over his personality. The chorus informs the reader, and at the same time gives him/her a foresight of Faustus' flourishing appearance on the beginning of the play: Till swoll'n with cunning, of a self–conceit, His waxen wings did mount above his reach And melting, heavens conspired his overthrow!
