 [ Adjective means Add to]
 A Word used with a noun to discribe
Or point out , the person , animal, place or thing which
the noun names or to tell the number or quantity , is
called ADJECTIVE
So we may also define as An adjective as
a word used with a noun to add
something for its meaning.
Example:
 The boys are lazy.
 I ate some rice.
 He did not eat any rice.
Kinds of Adjective
1) Adjective of Quality ( Descriptive Adjective)
2) Adjective of Quantity
3) Adjective of number ( numeral Adjective)
4) Demonstrative Adjective
5) Interrogative Adjective
1) Adjective of Quality
 Show the kind or quality of person or thing
 It is also known as descriptive adjective.
Example ;
Kolkata is a large city.
He is the honest man

 He saw a white rabbit in jungle.
 New Delhi is a large city with many
historical monuments.
 Itfa is a beautiful girl.
 They live in a beautiful house.

2) Adjective of Quantity
 Show how much of a thing is meant
Example ;
He did not eat any rice.
He showed much patience .

3)Adjective of number
 Show how many persons or things are meant; or in what
order a persons or things stands
It is also known as numeral adjective
Example:
 The hand has five fingers.
 Few cat like cold water.
 Monday is the first day of the week.
Adjective of number has further three kinds
I. Definite numeral adjective
II. Indefinite numeral adjective
III. Destractive numeral adjective
I)Definite numeral adjective
 Which describe an exict number.
Examples:
There are seven room in the house.
He has two apples.
I ate one mango.
There are hundred students.
ii) Indefinite numeral adjective
Which do not denote an exact number
i.e:
 all, many, few, some etc
Examples :
I know little about music.
He has little knowledge.
iii)Destributive numeral
adjective:
Which refer to each one of a number
i.e:
Either, neither , every, other etc
For example:
Taxes have to be paid by every employed citizn.

4) Demonstractive Adjective:
• Point out person or thing is meant
Examples :
I hate such thing.
This boy is stronger than Ali.
These mangoes are sour.
She is a good girl.

5) Interogative Adjective:
 What , which and whose , when they are used with
nouns to ask questions , called “Interogative Adjective”.
Examples:
Whose book is this?
Which way shall we go?
What manner of man is he?

Degree of adjective
• There are three degrees of adjective
Positive degree
Comparative degree
Superlative degree
Positive degree:
 A noun , a person ,thing or place and one quality.
 Or
 It is used to describe the simple quality of an object.
 Example:
 He is wise boy.
 She is clever.
Comparative degree:
 It is used to compare the quality of two or more
nouns.
 Example:
 He is wiser than his brother.
 She is a cleverer than Najma.
Comparative degree:
Superlative Degree
 It is used to compare one object with all things of the
same class.
 Example:
 He is the wisest among all.
 She is the cleverest among her friend.
