WordSift as a data-driven learning tool. Activity 9 is a vocabulary activity to identify possible descriptive terms or alternate words that may be used to improve your writing assignment using the tool Words Visualization. There are 10 activities in this series.

Purpose: to identify add variation to your own writing assignments
Outcomes: Writing activity to identify possible descriptive terms or alternate words that may be used
to improve your writing assignment
Try it
1. Locate a digital copy of your writing assignment
2. Copy the text (example: Essay- Save the Elephants)
3. Open Wordsift (https://wordsift.org)
4. Paste the copied text into the Text area of WordSift
5. Click on the SIFT button
6. A word cloud appears
7. Click on a word in this word cloud (example: species)

8. Scroll Down to the Word Visualization section
9. Use the connected words and the definition boxes (rollover the circles) to consider
using different words in your writing assignment
10. Use the connected words and the definition boxes to consider adding different ideas
or topics in your writing assignment
11. Scroll across to the Images for: section
12. Click on the Images button
13. Look for additional descriptive terms (adjectives, adverbs) to add into your writing
assignment
14. Repeat this for some of the other key words in the word cloud
15. Return to the word processor and make changes to your writing (optional)
