Data-Driven Learning Activity: Post-Writing activity
Purpose: to identify key terms or patterns in your own writing activity to improve writing skill
Outcomes: Writing activity to identify patterns and possible errors in a writing passage
Try it
1. Locate a digital copy of your writing assignment
2. Copy the text (example: Essay- Save the Elephants)
3. Open Wordsift (https://wordsift.org)
4. Paste the copied text into the Text area of WordSift
5. Click on the SIFT button
6. A word cloud appears
7. Click on a word in this word cloud (example: species)

8. Scroll Down to the in context section
9. Click on the expand / restore button
10. Read the sentences for comprehension and possible mistakes.
11. Read the sentences focusing on the highlighted key word to ensure it is used
properly. Think of possible alternate words to use in its place, especially if it is used
many times in your writing assignment.
12. Read the sentences for possible repetition of patterns. Starting many sentence with
the same few words or overuse of “specific” words.
13. Repeat this for some of the other key words in the word cloud
14. Return to the word processor and make changes to your writing (optional)
