3. My magazine is aimed at the
socio-economic group C.
Mainly because my target
audience group will be
teenagers/ young adults
interested in mainstream
music. This then gave me the
idea to use models and the
mise – en – scene selectively to
address and represent these
groups well. For example my
main feature is a young
teenaged girl who is
happy, excited and smiling. This
is usually the main theme for
Pop magazines as girls are
mainly the majority of the
target audience. In
addition, the smiling and
happiness adds to the idea of
Pop magazines being uplifting
and vibrant which represents
my particular social group in a
fun positive way.
In addition, another model who I was alternating
between main feature and contents feature was
used to represent the social group also.
She has the look of a stereo typical young girl who
would read Pop magazines for example – blonde
hair, cheerful & fashionable. However after
analysing my pictures, I found the original models
pictures were much stronger. So I then used the
other model for my contents.
Also, I was wanted to attract the opposite genre
too. Or at least use the opposite genre as a tool of
‘male gaze’. As I wanted my genre to be a more
sophisticated Pop genre slightly hybridised with hip
hop. I used a young black male, dressed in
stereotypically ‘hip ‘hop’ attire to model.
After analysing my images, I did think it worked
very well. That would have been one feature I
would have changed if I could.
4. However, the image of the model now has contrasted the 2 main ones before hand. Where they were
vibrant, happy uplifting ones – This image is more edgy and serious. Which is achieved by the dark colours
and angry facial expressions. However there is still a hint of the double page spread being ‘girly’ with the
pink background. The edgy look adds to the content information of her being independent and ‘going solo’.
This represents my particular social group in a challenging way. As girls are usually seen to be weaker then
men and more dependent within the media nowadays. However, she is given the image of being strong and
independent which has the connotations of masculinity. This represents my target audience social group as
powerful with the idea of empowering women to chase their dreams.
