Attending Carnegie Mellon University has always been a dream of mine. Attending the school
would be a huge opportunity for me. Throughout my life, I have developed a love of business, from
my own small commerce ways to my parents' businesses. I enjoy working with others and setting

Application Of A Software Engineer
As technology advances and the demand for software grows, so does the employment of software
engineers. Employment for software engineers is expected to grow 17% from 2014–2024, faster
than average. I want to be a software engineer largely due to my passion for technology, especially
computers. I am curious of the variety of computer applications, what it takes for software engineers
to make them. It's definitely not easy, but it's definitely fun! Another reason as to why I chose
software engineering for my career is because software engineers can develop almost anything, from

General Artificial Intelligence ( Ai )
My research interests lie in the area of general Artificial Intelligence (AI). In my doctorate, I want to
focus on making AI robotic systems safe, interactive and trustable. This follows from my master's
thesis work on explainable AI. I believe that this unexplored field is an essential step needed to
integrating cutting–edge technology into our society, as this will increase its trustworthiness among
people. For example, an autonomous car coming late to pick us up should be able to say, "The fifth
avenue had bad traffic," for the human to rely on the technology. This transparency in robots is
necessary for people to be not only able, but also willing, to use such technology to its fullest
potential. Therefore, I believe this new field will be the main focus of the next decade. I developed
an interest in robotics from participating in many robotics competitions in my undergraduate at IIT
Madras, India. I further pursued this by taking up various extracurricular projects from robotics
clubs and individual professors. Altogether, these further spurred my interest in Machine Learning
and Robotics, so I decided to further refine my interest by pursuing a master's degree in robotics
here at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), as the robotics research here is unparalleled. At CMU, I

The article "How Stress Causes Disease" explains how I became ill recently (Carnegie Mellon
University, 2012). My boss called with a proposed job status change for me from full time to part
time which would mean a loss of benefits and 50% cut in pay. The thought of losing my job
devastated me not only because it pays my bills, but because I love what I do. Facing this situation
has made it difficult to concentrate and sleep. My appetite diminished and I had a hard time eating. I
