According to a newsletter sent out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the purpose of the Hubble Space Telescope was,
and is, to gather light from cosmic objects so scientists can better understand the universe around us. Up until the deployment of the Hubble Space
Telescope, all telescopes were Earth based and had the disadvantage of having to peer at the stars through the Earth's atmosphere. The Earth's
atmosphere provides a large amount of distortion when viewing very far objects, like space, through a telescope. Placing a telescope in space

The fourth important instrument is the Near Infrared Camera and Multi–Object Spectrometer, which is basically Hubble's heat reader. It is very
sensitive to infrared light which makes it useful for observing objects tainted by gases and dust. It is also used to peer into the deepest parts of space.
The fifth important instrument is the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph, which is a utility instrument that separates the light from the cosmos into
its component colors. It is also used to study black holes, the composition of galaxies, and the atmosphere of planets around all stars. The sixth and final
important instrument is called the Fine Guidance Sensors, which target devices that lock on to "guide stars" and measure their positions in relation to
the objects being viewed. The sensors also perform celestial measurements.
The Hubble Space Telescopeis powered by solar cells which are solid–state electrical devices that convert the energy of light directly into electricity
by an effect called the Photovoltaic effect. When many solar cells are put together they are called solar modules which can also capture energy from

As Hubble age, he was unable to use the telescope any more. He didn't have the strength or energy to stay in the cage for long periods of time. So, he
sent Sandage to carry out tasks for him. Everyday Sandage would be given coordinates or jobs by Hubble. When Sandage was done recording he data
of his work, he would go back to Hubble and give him the results (Overbye 22). This shows how devoted he was to his research, even if he was unable

Based on observations of galaxies, galaxy clusters and cosmic microwave background, scientists determined that most of the universe's mass is
composed of dark matter. Dark matter does not emit light but can be detected by the way its gravity distorts the images of the background galaxies.

Telescope was named after Edwin Hubble. The original launch date for the Hubble Space Telescope for October of 1968. But on January 28, 1986,
the shuttle Challenger exploded a minute after launch. This caused the team to continue to work on the Hubble, tweaking the solar batteries and

The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope that was launched into space in 1990, April 24th. Its primary function was to take pictures of stars,
planets, moons, galaxies, etc. This type of telescope is different from a telescope such as the Hooker Telescope as it is in space, rather than on
Earth, and was used for different things. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it has helped scientists with
many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies
that we did not know of previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists to calculating a more
accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same
average brightness. Although, their brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its position
in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years
away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists
can use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is from the Earth. Using this information and
the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75
billion years old. Without this sort of technology, we wouldn't know as much about the universe as we do now and we may not have been able to

through the method of gravitational microlensing.
Microlensing is the transitory alignment of a foreground star with a background star, which in turn intensifies the light from the background star. This
can also occur if planets of the foreground star align with the background star, but this occurrence lasts for a shorter amount of time. This takes
advantage of the seemingly random motion of stars, as the small movements cause the gravity of the fore star to act as a lens magnifying the light of
the star behind it. Analysts observe the time of the alignment, alongside changes in the amount of light magnification to find and conclude important

The Earth's atmosphere provides a large amount of distortion when viewing very far objects, like space, through a telescope.
