1. This is the digipack of the
latest album, released in
November 2015 from the
British pop artist, Ellie
Goulding. This pack
contains the 22 track
deluxe album, along with 5
print images and is
available from universal in
two different formats; CD
(left) and Vinyl (below). As
you can see, the CD
package has all the images
in black and white where
as the vinyl pack in
predominantly in colour.
There is a very small number of props
used in the images of this digipack, such
as the crown and fur coat. The use of
wearing this fur coat would suggest
wealth, a trait often held by chart topping
musicians. It also reflects popular
fashion in autumn/winter 2015, the time
at which is album has been released.
While the use of an iconic looking crown
in one of the prints (4) creates a
representation female empowerment,
which has become a particularly strong
focus for many female musicians in
recent years, as well as reflecting the
success that Ellie has already achieved in the music industry.
There are various different representations of the singer evident through the multiple
images. However this heavily juxtaposes the provocative images also present. The
album’s front cover (1) shows Ellie wearing an open fur jacket, which clearly exposes the
centre of her torso and cleavage area. In image 3, Ellie gives a direct line of address
straight to the audience, with a smouldering look in her face, suggesting a subtle flirtatious
attitude and therefore…
Image 5 exposes the upper thigh of Ellie Goulding and this is therefore another flirtatious
image.
However image 2 is contrasting all of the other images as it emotes anger, represented by
the open jaw. This variety of emotions and representations creates is disjointed narrative
and it would suggest there is a variation in emotions within the tracks of this album.
