8. TWO KINDS OF DIABETES
1.Type 1 – gestational and pre-diabetes (impaired glucose
tolerance)
2. Type 2 – caused by modifiable behavioral risk factors such as:
- Unhealthy diets
- Physical inactivity
- Heavy alcohol use
9. CANCER
- Characterized by rapid creation of abnormal
cells which invades other parts of the body as
well.
10. KINDS OF CANCER
1. Cervical Cancer – virus infection
2. Lung cancer – second hand smoker, living in polluted place
3. Breast cancer – physical activities
4. Prostate cancer – bad eating habits
5. Colorectal cancer – unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity
11. CORONARY HEART DISEASE
- Characterized by a reduction or blockage in the flow
of oxygen-rich blood to the heart which leads to:
a. Angina – chest pain caused by lack of flow of blood
to the heart
b. Heart attacks – caused when the blood flow to the
heart is suddenly but completely blocked
c. Heart Failure – the failure of the heart to pump
blood properly to the rest of the body
18. Assignment: Meal Plan with Calorie Content
Mechanics:
1. In a short bond paper, recommend a one-day healthy meal for a
grade 10 student.
2.After making the meal plan, research for the calorie content of the
food listed in your meal plan.
3.Calculate the total calorie content of each meal and the total
calorie intake of the day.
4.Research the ideal calorie of a normal, moderately active teenager
and indicate whether the total calorie of the meal plan is
appropriate.
