The cover of this
magazine will be
similar to mine as I
want a band on the
front of mine, and the
kind of band they are is
the kind of band I want
on my magazine (pop-
punk).
As the ‘Alternative Press’
is quite a well known
magazine, it doesn’t
really matter that the
masthead is a little
covered up with the
pictures as the pictures
are more important than
the magazine name.
There is a list of other
artists that will be in
the magazine. This
shows people that
have not bought it
that if they want to
know what’s inside
that they will have to
buy the magazine. I
want to do this
because it looks good
and gives the reader a
‘sneak peak’ of what is
inside.
In the magazine there
will be one band or
artist that ‘stars’. This
is what the magazine
focuses on, most of
the content will be
about the main artist.
In this case it is All
Time Low, but in my
case it will be one I
have made up.

3. Existing Product
This magazine has a very
simple cover, and the
masthead is in a
different place to where
it would normally be,
instead of being at the
top, it goes down the
side. I want my magazine
to have the masthead in
a different place as well,
as it is eye-catching and
unique.
The picture that has been taken for the front cover of this magazine is very simple, and with a
plain background. I like this idea of simplicity, as it attracts people that may feel like there is
too much going on, on the front of other magazines. I will use this idea on my magazine as I
think that simple is sometimes best.
This magazine is very
mainstream, and
popular with most
people, I want to
make my magazine so
its alternative for
alternative music
because they don’t
really get as much as
a platform as ‘pop’
music.

4. Existing Product
On the cover of this
magazine, there is one main
picture in the background.
This will keep the reader
focused on the picture and
then the information about
the magazine. I will be doing
this in my magazine as I think
that having one picture in the
background of a celebrity
makes the magazine more
interesting and simplistic.
The masthead is in a place
where is isn't central, but it
is a very short name for a
magazine so this is why
they probably have it to
the side, I will have my
masthead in the place at
the top because my
magazine title is longer and
wouldn’t look right in any
other way.
The name of the celebrity
in the magazine is quite
large on the front of the
magazine, showing that he
is important and that he
will be the main focus of
the issue. I will have the
same idea because I need
people to know who Is
featuring on my magazine.
There is text all around
Harry’s face, and as much as I
understand giving a little bit
of information to make sure
the readers know what they
are reading, but I think it
makes the magazine look a
bit rubbish, as the main focus
should be him and the little
bit of information about him.
I will not be putting lots of
text around my main picture.

5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– They all have mastheads (as all magazines do) and a picture of a
celebrity on the front, to show what is going to be inside the
magazine. Also, there was a subtitle to show who the person
was on the front and a sneak peak of what they said, probably
to entice fans into buying copies.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your
on work?
– I will be using a simple picture as my background, and will be
going for a very simplistic theme on my magazine, because I
think less means more when it comes to magazines and I want
to potray my opinion and show my magazine the way I like it.

13-17 • Lyrics to songs sung by different bands featured in
this magazine may be offensive to certain aged
children. I think teenagers can listen to this music
and still be respectful and know not to say these
words in front of their parents ect.
Gender
mixed • Anyone can like the music that is in the magazine,
and the magazine give, any gender could take a
liking to it, therefore I didn’t really cater to any
gender, making sure it had things in for everyone.
Psychographic
balanced • This group is mostly made of the Socially
Conscious groups, therefore they will like this
magazine as it is giving a minority social group a
platform.
Social Status
Middle class and
working class
• People of high classes may find alternative music
disrespectful or judge people for listening to it,
and stereotype them. I think that people of
middle class have more of allocative music taste
and tend to be less judgemental.
