2. Types of Horror
• Body Horror- The graphic destruction or degeneration of the body to create monsters or unnatural
creatures.
• Comedy Horror- Combines horror and comedy genre together as seen in films such as Shaun of the dead.
• Gothic Horror- Combines gothic and horror together and usually contains a mysterious/unnatural romance
between to characters as seen in twilight.
• Natural Horror- This is normally harmless animals or humans being turned into cold blooded killers by
medical experiments as seen in Jaws and Deep Blue Sea.
• Psychological horror-Relies on character's fears, guilt, beliefs, eerie sound effects, relevant music,
emotional instability and at times, the supernatural and ghosts, to build tension and further the plot.
• Science fiction Horror- There is usually a scientific/medical experiment goes wrong and jeopardises
characters lives as seen in Apollo 13.
• Slasher Horror-A type of horror film typically involving a psychopathic killer stalking and killing a sequence
of victims in a graphically violent manner, often with a cutting tool such as a knife or axe. Slasher films may
at times overlap with the crime, mystery and thriller genre.
• Splatter Horror-Often called torture porn, they deliberately focus on graphic portrayals of gore and graphic
violence. These films, through the use of special effects and excessive blood and guts, tend to display an
over interest in the vulnerability of the human body and the theatricality of its mutilation.
• Zombie Horror-Zombies films have creatures who are usually portrayed as either reanimated corpses or
mindless human beings

4. Low budget and High Budget horrors
Low budget films usually consist of unknown actors and hand held filming in order to create a state of realism for
the audience . Mainstream actors are not used in horrors as it may be a struggle for the audience to apprehend
these mainstream actors in a unrealistic event or surreal atmosphere. In high budget films such as 28 weeks later
will use well known actors and special effects and CGI are used to realism and have a believable storyline of a
virus outbreak .
