Class: Grade 4 Date: March 19 – March 23, 2017 LB Page: 92, 96-101 AB Page: 76-81 Period: Duration: 40 mins/day Objectives: At the lessons students should be able to… *Invent a new type of sweet or chocolate. *Develop an awareness of different types of weather in different countries. *Listen to a radio report. *Describe endangered animals. *Talk about extreme weather. *Give reasons why animals become extinct. *Read an Australia fact file. *Construct sentences using vocabulary words. *Make comparison between countries *Participate as knowledgeable and reflective in recitation. Anticipated Problem: Unwanted misbehavior in the class Difficulty in understanding the text Difficulty in answering the activity Difficulty in writing Possible Solutions: Proper classroom management Explain and simplify it for better understanding Give more time to students Give struggling students one-on-one assistant during independent working time Aids/Materials Board, board markers, notebook, Language book, practice book, weekly plan with spelling words, computer and overhead projector, speaker, worksheets. New Vocabulary: rock formation – snowy – mountain range – thunder – coral reef – coast – tropical rainforest – endangered species – tasmanian devils – platypus – echidna Stage Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity Timings Checking Questions. Etc.

Day 1 Warm up Presentation Discussion Application/ Assessment Day 2 Warm up Presentation Review of the past lesson Show learners the different types of sweets and chocolates Discuss ideas for new kinds of sweets and chocolates Give class activity Unlock the difficulties. Discuss the meaning of each word and show pictures related to the vocabulary words and give example sentences. Present the pictures and meaning of each word. Reviewing the characteristics of Charlie Bucket and August Gloop. Sharing their ideas in the class. Listing the main ingredients of chocolates in their notebook and creating names for their invention. Writing: Invent a new type of sweet or chocolate (LB page 92, worksheet) Listening attentively in the discussion. Composing sentence/s using the vocabulary words. 5 mins 5 mins 10 mins 20 mins 10 mins 5 mins What happened to Charlie and Augustus in the chocolate factory? Which adjective is the opposite of greedy? Would you like to try them? Why? Why not?
  • 3. Discussion Application / Assessment Day 3 Warm up Presentation Discussion Application/ Assessment Tell learners to listen to track 36. Read and circle the phrases that describe the weather in their country. Give class activity Show pictures of Australian landmarks, scenery and wildlife. Tell learners to read a text to find out the answer to questions on activity 1. Ask questions regarding the text. Give class activity Listening: Weather report (LB page 96-97) Identifying the weather conditions and where they are happening. Answering AB page 76-77 Participating in the class discussion. Reading: Fact File Australia (LB page 99) Telling to the class the similarities or differences between Australia and their own country. Answering AB page 78-79 10 mins 15 mins 5 mins 10 mins What type of extreme weather is happening? In which country? Would you like to visit Australia? What do you know about Australia? Where might you find snow in Australia? What is Uluru? Which part of Australia can be seen from space?
  • 4. Day 4 Warm up Presentation Discussion Application / assessment Day 5 Warm up Have a competition to see which team can write the most animals in a minute. Give double points for Australian animals. Write words like kangaroos / koalas and Australia / America on the board. Learners listen to the report and find the missing words. Learners copy the table into their notebooks adding Bilby, Numbat and Tasmanian devil. Give class activity. Review the spelling and meaning of vocabulary words Writing on the board all the animals they know in a minute. Constructing sentences using the given words. Listening to track 47. (LB page 100) Listening: Track 38 (LB page 101) Listening to the audio for the information while completing the table. Answering AB page 80-81 Reviewing the previous vocabulary words and correct spelling 5 mins. 10 mins 10 mins 15 mins 5 mins. Which animals live in the wild in your country? Which animals are common? Which are rare? What is an endangered animals? Why is koala an endangered animal in some parts of Australia? What has happened to Tasmanian devils since 1990s?

Presentation Discussion Application/ Assessment Give class a vocabulary test Give class a spelling test Check the worksheet / copy notebook of the students Answering the worksheet: Vocabulary Test Writing the correct spelling of the words Patiently waiting for the results of their test 10 mins 15 mins 10 mins Homework: Unfinished activity and worksheet considered as their homework.
